I wrote a 5 star review earlier. I still have a great opinion about the level of care for my mother-in-law who is in memory care. When first interviewing the place, we were told there is a doctor who comes every Monday. When we met the doctor, he was clear to us that he is a nurse who has a doctorate in nursing. He was honest. The Quarry continues to refer to him as a doctor and even a primary care doctor. A federal court case out of California clearly ruled that this is illegal because it is misleading. The Quarry should stop referring to this wonderful nurse as a "Doctor". read more

My husband & I have been living in the Assisted Living part of The Quarry in Vancouver for a number of months. Like anywhere there is good & not so good. We pay a premium amount for food on a scale of 1-10 that we would rank a 4. Portions are child-like and any salad horrible when it comes to freshness or quality of what's in it. Caregivers think nothing of shouting in the halls in the middle of the night as though they think everyone is awake at 2:30 a.m. Why do the schedulers insist once you grow comfortable with a particular caregiver they must move them somewhere else? You are forced to start all over with routines that before were comfortable. There is an uncurrent of dissatisfaction & discontent because when a problem is mentioned nothing changes. Many good staff members have left for other employment because of the lack of fixing what has to exist in any living community. They sacrifice quality because to fix the situation would cost money & that's a prominent no-no. There are numerous walls that need paint or repair but it takes weeks to get it looked at much less fixed. Community living sometimes is messy but too often the mess or unrepaired appliances or gym machines linger for weeks or months. Bringing the situation to the attention of managers who should get the work done immediately often makes little difference. Unless you complain repeatedly nothing gets fixed quickly at all. Frustration is the least of the results. There are many staff who are warm, conscientious and treat their residents like family but these folks are few. For the exorbitant price we pay I seriously question long we can endure. read more

The care that residents receive is poorly executed from a loved ones experience. The staff, management and reception there let everything fall through the cracks. I've been waiting on paperwork from there for over a week now and have yet to receive an answer after multiple attempts to get a hold of someone, it's always "they'll call you back" or "I'll see what I can do" and come back with the same answer of nothing after being placed on hold for 5-10 minutes. My husband and I have been touring several communities in both the Portland and Vancouver area for his mom. After touring several different locations and being either ignored or stalked - I want to THANK The Quarry Senior Living staff for going above and beyond throughout this hard process. From the moment we first called the community, to our very pleasant visit, they have been professional, tactful and caring. We stayed for lunch. Not only was to food great, we meet other residents and staff members. Everyone was smiling and seemed happy. Once we convince our loved one to move - she will be moving to The Quarry. read more

The lack of communication and partnership with family caregivers is beyond frustrating. No responses to billing questions, they raise the care level and want you to sign an increase to the monthly rate and again no response when I have questions and want to discuss. They don't have time to return calls or messages and if you work full time then it is next to impossible to coordinate care plans with this organization. It has really gone down hill since new ownership took over. My aunt doesn't feel welcome there and I am moving her to a new assisted living location. I thought their memory care transition would be more helpful and more a discussion and partnership with me (that is what they sold me on but didn't deliver), it is not. I do not recommend this facility for the high costs they charge and inability to assist with more than mobility issues of residents. read more

My Mom moved to the Quarry in mid-December after being in the hospital and no longer able to live independently. She had Parkinson's so was in the 'ridge' at The Quarry, a higher level care section. They tout a specialty for Parkinson's, but I didn't see anything other than a general exercise class and a support group supporting it. They didn't seem knowledgeable about Parkinson's and I often felt like when they provided updates to me, they were punishing or belittling her when she had odd behaviors related to advanced Parkinson's, it made me sad. The good: she loved the actual caregivers, Austin in the gym, and thought the food was pretty good, provided you were able to go to the dining room. Food delivered to your room was always cold. She also loved swimming, during the brief time she was able to go to the pool. The bad: it took over a week before we saw a care plan and a month before it was being followed as written. We had difficult communication with our care coordinator, though eventually it got a bit better. We experienced laundry being mixed with other resident laundry, I found her bed remade without any sheets on it, we provided good towels but they only used their Quarry issued towels. Also, keep in mind that housekeeping is once a week, which for some is fine, but should be more frequent in a high care area, obviously, those residents can't do things themselves. I went every other day to visit and there was only about a month where things went smoothly. After the first month, things got better, then when her health/Parkinson's got worse, so did the care. When she needed help with showering, toileting, transport, they said her care needs were too much, and they didn't have available rooms in the enhanced care unit. I went to other facilities to look for a place to move her to. They mentioned charging her for a 30 day notice if she moved, really? They couldn't meet her needs and were requiring a private caregiver in her room, that is about $700 per day! All of a sudden, they had a room come available the first of April, unfortunately, she died a few days later. The Quarry loves their independent living residents, but those that require more care, not so much. Look at the Facebook posts, activities are focused on independent living and employees, not the residents with higher level of needs. I was paying for her care,not parties! 3 caregivers for 29 residents was not adequate. Call buttons often weren't answered for 30 minutes, but they'll tell you their average is 5 minutes. If your loved one requires a high level of care, this is NOT the place, look at a smaller place, the bells and whistles mean nothing if there isn't good care when our loved ones need it most. Also, if you have a family member there, make sure someone is available to check on them regularly - I can't imagine how it would have looked if I wasn't a frequent visitor. I had to do laundry, wash dishes, clean the toilet, brush Mom's hair, cut her nails, and make sure she was decently dressed EVERY time I visited, none of these are things they worry about. Mom died on April 7th. I am very happy to be done with The Quarry. read more

My mother has lived in the Quarry for three years now with great care and activities. Staff and medical support teams are stellar! Friendly, alert and quick to call for advice or back up if needed. Doctor hours on site as well as nurse, medication, PT, social contact, restaurant and transport to events and shopping. Wide range of care levels from completely independent to memory care. Residents can usually move to more care as needed without loss of friends. Excellent place! read more

The staff and nurses and caregivers at the Quarry are absolutely wonderful. They're caring and attentive to my mother and keep her engaged with daily activities and fitness exercises. Especially now, with COVID19, they're devoting tremendous efforts to keep the residents and themselves safe and healthy, mentally as well as physically. Mom has gained much needed weight and the food is very good. The chefs don't rely on desserts to put weight on the residents; they cook genuinely healthy and good food that tastes good so people naturally eat. Mom was living in a different assisted living facility previously and they were poorly equipped to help seniors with dementia. They tended to isolate mom and didn't reliably involve her in daily activities. People with dementia need socializing and activities - a regular routine - and most places can't give that. Try to not be fooled - not every facility can really care for someone with memory problems. The Quarry has two units devoted to residents with higher needs and the staff in both are excellent. It is tempting to believe that facilities that don't use the point system are genuinely more caring and less money-oriented, but I'm seeing for myself this isn't true. Mom's last facility didn't use points and the staff was overworked, underpaid, and ultimately failed to give Mom the care she needed. Mom was in and out of the emergency room and we finally had to pay for private care in order to ensure her safety and well-being. At The Quarry, we pay for Mom to receive extra care and she actually receives that care. This more closely reflects the time and resources devoted to her. I feel good knowing that the staff and caregivers are being compensated for the time and energy they give to the residents in their care. You get what you pay for and The Quarry is worth every penny. read more

I would not place a loved one in this facility. They do not care for the residents as they should. They do not place care on the list of priorities. Residents roaming the halls confused and lost with no one helping. When help is needed the employees are so over worked they don't have what they need to care for anyone or enough time or patience to do so. Management is a nightmare. There is a reason they have the amount of CMS complaints they do. Residents are forgotten about and staff are overwhelmed. read more

nope nope nope.....on the surface of it they appear great, caring, modern, but after the veneer wears off watch out. The lower level staff are genuinely kind, but the nurse supervisors and higher are a nightmare. They don't return calls or emails (after handing you their business cards) and have an aggressive attitude toward family members. I think it must be a difficult and stressful environment to work in, but for the money families are paying, you have the right to expect respectful treatment for both you and your family members. My family had a view of the Quarry that others rarely see, and I really hope people read this review. My uncle has Parkinson's and needed to be placed in assisted living. We were concerned because he has about the cognitive level of a 10 year old and is aware of what is going around him, but also needs a high level of supervision and care. He didn't want to be in a place that felt like a nursing home. My family toured several facilities. When we toured The Quarry, the staff member giving is the tour had a great answer for every question we asked. We were assured that caregivers would be in to check on him every 2 to 3 hours, and that they would provide for his every need, including feeding his kitten and changing the litter box, med management, etc. IF YOU ARE A FAMILY MEMBER LOOKING FOR A PLACE, OR A FAMILY MEMBER WHO VISITS OCCASIONALLY, THEY WILL LOOK WONDERFUL. THEY ARE GREAT AT MARKETING THEMSELVES TO THOSE WHO ARE MAKING THE DECISIONS. So my uncle moved in. My aunt (his sister) had been his primary caregiver for the past several months, and to ease the transition, she stayed in the room with my uncle for the entire first week. Someone from my family was with him there 24/7 the first week. The second week, we were there several times throughout each day. Some of the things we experienced: - My uncle going for up to 6 hours without anyone coming to check on him, especially at night. - We were told to just have him push the button when he wanted something. Due to Parkinson's, my uncle often either didn't remember about the button, or tried to push other unrelated buttons such as the TV remote. This was why we needed someone to definitely be checking on him regularly. -When my aunt pushed the button for him, nobody came. She had to go out looking for someone. There were only 2 caregivers for the entire floor so it was hard to find someone. - We were given a phone number to call during the night, that would supposedly forward us to either the head nurse's or care coordinator's cell phone (never found out for sure whose phone it would go to). When my aunt called it because she couldn't find anyone to help my uncle to the bathroom at night, it went to the front desk. The person who answered it said that they couldn't help and that they didn't know how to forward the call to anyone. -Nobody came to take him to meals or activities. Again, he was not always able to independently push the button. - They messed up his medication by giving him the wrong dosage and by administering some old medication that he was no longer supposed to be having. My aunt ended up having to administer his meds to him 3 times per day because she didn't trust them. -The nurse, for some reason, ordered a refill of one of his medications from a pharmacy that we have never used before. She then claimed that the pharmacy sent it to her by accident... which is absurd, because there was no way that this pharmacy, which was not one we had ever used, could have even gotten one of my uncles prescriptions unless SOMEONE called it in. When my aunt said she needed the medication because she was now unable to refill it at our usual pharmacy (since it had been refilled by this other pharmacy) the nurse claimed she had sent it back and would be able to get it again the next morning. Strangely, an hour later, a staff member showed up with the missing medication. - Nobody ever fed the cat or checked the litter box. - My uncle, one morning, fell while getting out of bed (the bed they had provided for him had wheels, so it rolled out from under him as he was trying to get out) and sat there for at least 3 hours before my other uncle happened to come to give him his morning medicine and found him chilling on the floor. When my uncle went and asked one of the caregivers if she had checked on him that night, the caregiver said she hadn't and didn't know if the one other caregiver on duty had. -One evening as I was leaving for the day, I had called the caregivers to help my uncle to the bathroom and to bed. As I was leaving I heard the two of them saying to each other, "Have you ever done this before?" "No." "Me neither." Hmmmmm... -The caregivers did seem to be doing their best but didn't seem to have the information they needed. There was supposed to be a care plan in place for my uncle, but none of the caregivers appeared to have seen it. -When my aunt had a meeting with the care coordinator, and later the director, they said there was not much they could do and that no other place would provide any better care. If your family member is independent and can advocate for him/herself, this place might be fine... but if they need more care, avoid this place. They will claim they can handle the person's needs, but then they will neglect them when you are not around to watch! We later spoke to people who have worked there in the past, and they confirmed that the quality of care is mediocre at best. AVOID IT! read more

Today I asked my in-laws what they do and do not like about "The Q". They said, The staff and neighbors are friendly. Patrick Magee in the restaurant is like family. The pool and common area are always clean and overall they feel cared for and safe. The beer at happy hour could be colder and the washing machines are lame. Went to The Quarry last night for a concert with my mom. She had received something in the mail and didn't want to go alone, she'd never been there before. The concert was at 6:30 but we arrived a little bit early and found the dining staff grilling salmon and steak on the patio! It was a delicious buffet. The music was great too, a local country band. People were dancing and the courtyard was crowded. It ended up being a great time and I could totally see my mother here! read more

This is an awful place. We helped my Mom move here in 2017. She lived in the Independent Apartments and did okay. They did lose her on one of their trips but otherwise the only issue was a large rent increase about 6 months after she moved in. Then in March of this year she started having heart problems and went into the Hospital. The Dr said she would need a higher level of care when she was discharged. I started calling and emailing the staff at The Quarry Assisted Living but they would not reply. When my Mom left the Hospital she was placed in Respite Care for 3 weeks. That meant she had to pay for the apartment she was not using and Respite Care in the Assisted Living Section. For 3 weeks we tried to get an answer as to how much a new Assisted Living Apartment would cost her. They just refused to meet with us. Two days before the end of the month they brought my Mom her Service Plan ( which we had no input in helping to write as required by State Assisted Living Statutes) and told her to sign a new Contract right then. Luckily, my Mom refused. The plan was for $1500 more per month or about 5000 per month to live in a 1 bedroom in their Assisted Living. We immediately notified them we were moving because my Mom could not pay the new rent and they refused to let her go back to her Independent Apartment with outside help. They insisted that we pay the next month's rent as a 30 day notice. This meant that for the month of April my Mom paid them almost $10,000 for her Independent Apartment, her Respite Care and her May payment on the Apartment they refused to allow her to return to. They bullied my Mom and tried to force her to sign the new Contract, they never met with us and they provided very poor care in their Assisted Living. All they care about is money. read more

I have held numerous events at The Quarry. The staff there are amazing. The residents frequently come by to chat and always seem very happy. The facility is well managed, clean, and beautiful. In fact, the first time I visited, I called my husband and told him we were moving there, now, lol. I highly recommend placing any of your relatives, or yourself, at this establishment if you are looking to live in luxury with a supportive and knowledgeable staff to tend to your needs. read more

Let me start off by disclosing that I am not much of an online "review writer". I tend to be the type of person that when I have good things to say, I will take the time to give verbal or hand written words of thanks. When I have not so good things to say, I try to merely speak to the individual who can make the situation "right". I came to the realization this morning that I believe more often negative reviews are posted on the internet, than the positives reviews that COULD be posted. With that being said, I was surfing the internet today and needed to retrieve the telephone number to The Quarry Senior Living. I'm planning on surprising my grandparents with flowers and have them delivered to the front desk. I was appalled to read a seething review from what appears to be from a family member regarding the community's food service. My loved ones have lived at The Quarry for nearly 2 years. During this time myself, my husband and our two kids have dined in the Silver Falls Restaurant at an average of every other week. We very much enjoy the food (and their kid-friendly options) and the company. Not just our grandparents company, but the family atmosphere the other Residents and Quarry Staff provides. The highlights of The Quarry include: dining, family friendly events and the day to day smiles from everyone there when we visit. The Quarry has created a home my grandparents can be proud of and live happily with very few worries. I am very upset that this review has painted such a terrible picture, of what I KNOW to be a wonderful community. The Quarry staff has grown to become an extended family to my grandparents, therefore, an extended family to me. I think the very outspoken review I just read is not informative at all. I generally respect most opinions and perceptions - even if they are very different from my own, however, I believe the depths in which the previous Reviewer decided to communicate their opinion was unnecessary. I was not impressed by the asterisks to hide poor language and the extreme sarcasm. I'm afraid this review could be very hurtful to the many people who work and choose live at The Quarry. I gave 4 stars because I am very impressed with The Quarry's food and OVERALL service. I deducted 1 star because no one is perfect. read more

The Team at the Quarry works hard to provide a fabulous living experience for their Seniors! They have amazing exercise programs... bit shout out to Austin, Laurie and Justice! , group activities and my personal favorite happy hour (Laura you rock!)! The nursing staff (Brenda, Dee, Darci, Cortney, Leslie) are top notch and work together to provide great care! The caregivers and med aids (too many to name), and care coordinators (Ginger!!!, Heather and Healther) there are way too many to name are always gracious and thoughtful in their care! I've lived at the Quarry for about 5 months now and love it. The staff is wonderful, the food is delicious, and the activities are varied and plentiful. When I decided to move to Vancouver I started scouting out the many senior living facilities in the area and made a spread sheet to keep track of all of it. The Quarry is the only one that ticked off all the boxes, and here I am. Happily, I haven't been disappointed. If problems arise they are quickly handled. Management is accessible and truly listens to concerns and suggestions. read more

My grandmother has been thriving here for the past year and a half since she decided that couldn't live by herself anymore. She loves it here. Staff is friendly and eager, the amenities give her quality of life, and the accessible community allows her to have strong relationships with others when we (her family) aren't available to see her. I was eating dinner with her two nights ago and had twelve different residents say hello to us and ask her how she was doing. She has more friends here than she did back home. YES, this place is incredibly expensive. We're a direct and open minded family and we admittedly worry that she could one day outlive her savings. Yet, she's had a stronger quality of life than I remember her having in possibly 10 years. She exercises, she goes to restaurants with friends (on a shuttle bus with scheduled destinations), and she sleeps comfortably each night knowing that the people outside her door are there to help her. I sleep well believing this too. If your family can afford to sign your loved one's here, do it. I would be fortunate to live here. I'm proud that she does. read more

We've lived at The Quarry 1 1/2 years and have all good things to say about it. The food is wonderful but if you don't care for the specials of the day there is a large menu of other items you can choose from. And the soups are superb. If you are bored you can only blame yourself as activities abound from happy hour on Thursdays which includes entertainment as well as free drinks and treats, to various exercise classes, brain training (which is lots of fun), joke nights, special topic gatherings, outside entertainment and off campus outings. The staff are wonderful and eager to please. We would recommend The Quarry to all our retired friends - and have. read more
