They got it functioning within a few minutes. Here's the crazy part...it stopped again the next day. So another call, another visit. They gave us gave us the real news. Quick repair or full replacement. Since it was not our building, we elected to service the current system. I will definitely keep them on speed dial for the winter months!

Let's face it, spending that $ for the stuff you cannot see is never fun but Rob gave a good fair price. His techs - Mark and Robert -were here all day and did not stop until job was done, checking to make sure it was working properly and explaining the system to us so it can function for years to come. They were cordial in working in masks in this trying time (and with us wearing them in our home as well to protect them). Removing the old furnace was a task in itself as it easily weighed OVER 500 lbs and had to be broken up in two pieces to get out of our basement! I had used DB prior to for our annual AC checks, but this is the first big time job and couldn't be happier. Great service all the way around.

Tech comes, hangs out a while, says I need a new flue sensor AND a barnd new external condensate pump (with tubing) Repairs 1600 dollars. After I picked my jaw up from the floor, I asked the owner if my estimate could delineate parts vs labor. He then proceeds to double talk me about "there is alot more involved than parts and labor" umm wat? He continues on that he has to buy gas, pay for insurance, 401k, workmans comp, a warehouse. Basically giving me the "no man in the house hustle". I call a competitor, independent diagnosis of flue sensor, gets part (that was like 100 bucks) and I have hot water again. Concerned about the condensate pump Smith said I needed, I asked the honest repair man and he laughed because IT WASN'T EVEN A PART OF MY SYSTEM anymore and had been bypassed. So instead of 1600 dollars, I paid 500 dollars. I know that at the end of the day Smith would have restored my hot water, but he was absolutely taking advantage of me. As a single parent, every dollar counts and 1100 dollars is a big deal for us. He was absolutely ready to take food off my table. So in closing, the five star rating is probably because most people dont know their ass from their elbow and blindly trust that a company isnt out to soak you. This is your fair warning. If you do call them, save yourself money and get a second opinion like I did.

As a real estate agent, I work with contractors all the time and recommend them to my buyers and sellers. I've never had one complaint in I'd say, close to 20 years. Last week was yet another example. A homeowner called me up for help. Her mom passed away and she was clearing out the house to get it ready for the market. It was a hot day and the central air suddenly quit. She's not local and didn't know who else to call because other contractors she'd been told to call were either unresponsive or seemed to be not all that forthright. The company who had been servicing the house forever seemed to be the worst - took a quick look and told her the entire unit needed to be replaced with a staggering bid amount. Of all the contractors who came, Brian was the only one who told her that she did not have to replace the entire unit. All she needed was 1 part. The cost difference on this? Tremendous. Please note that when she called Brian, she'd told him that an estimate for replacement was needed. While my client was surprised, I wasn't. I've heard stories like this about O'Neill Contractors before. My experience with them is that they do excellent work and are highly ethical. It's no wonder they've been in business for a long time.

Buyer Beware: Outrageous Pricing for Basic Repairs I am…read moreincredibly disappointed with Clarkstown Heating & Air Conditioning. My AC capacitor went out on a hot Friday, and I contacted them looking for a prompt repair. While the technician who arrived was professional, the billing was completely predatory. They charged me $685 plus tax to replace a single dual capacitor. This is a basic 30-minute job, and the high-end universal part they used costs under $100 retail. The standard market rate for this repair in Rockland County tops out around $350 to $450. Charging nearly $700 for a simple part swap is an extreme, unconscionable markup. There are plenty of honest, local HVAC professionals in our area who charge fair market rates. I will never use this company again, and I strongly advise other Rockland County homeowners to look elsewhere unless you want to be severely overcharged.

This is an unfortunate update following my 5-star review a few years back. I tried to really like…read moreParamus Plumbing and root for them, but after the latest incident, I really have to speak up because what I'm about to describe has happened repeatedly before. I was trying to get a service call out on the AC they installed in 2016, and 5 days later and 3 leaving messages later, they have not had a technician contact me. What is the point of being in a Service industry if your first line of service - communication - is so atrocious? I remember when Brett told me that it's hard to get back to customers in time because he had no receptionist back then and I had given you every benefit of the doubt. Now with an 800 number, multiple technicians, and a receptionist(s), what is the excuse now? And what is the point of receptionist if all they do is to tell me that "they left a message with the technicians, there's nothing more they can do"? I called last Saturday and spoke to a young lady who told me (when I asked her to look up my information) that she "has no access to any information (due to working from a different location a la COVID-19) and that all she can do is to leave a message with one of the technicians" Okay, understandable as long as someone calls back, I thought. Then on Monday an older lady did call back saying they got someone nearby and are trying to work something out so I happily told her to have the guy call me first so I can arrange with the tenant. No calls. I called again on Tuesday and Briana picked up (I think the same lady from Saturday) and I told her my frustration. She just said she can leave a message with them again. There was no apology, no 'Oh I see you called last week, we'll make sure to get back to you this time', no follow up, nothing. And of course, I didn't hear a squeak back from them. So now it's Thursday and I feel foolish for having tried to give Paramus Plumbing a chance to repair their own job. I understand it's AC season and everyone might be busy running around. But what is the point of voicemails and receptionists if you simply cannot be reached or even bother calling back if you're too busy? If they're busy with "big commercial jobs" like Brett told me about back then, then perhaps switch strategy and exit the residential business altogether. If they're still in it, they need to do better and call customers back whether they can or can't do the job. It's basic decency they can afford their customers. They do a good job though not without errors, but be prepared for atrocious communication if you choose Paramus plumbing & mechanical. I went with someone else who was so much more responsive and guess I'll see how good Brett's work was.
