This place has been on my to do list. Ever since I heard about Evelia's food cart, I've been meaning to make the trip out to Queens to eat her tamales. So so proud and happy that she was able to open her own shop. The shop itself was cute. Love the atmosphere and the staff members were all very lovely. You can't beat those prices and I tried a variety of tamales. They were all delicious.

Tamales unveiled. Smella so good.

I've been wanting to try Evelia's Tamales for a while, but never really got a chance to as I'm never in the area. But I got enough motivation to drive out to Corona from Long Island on a weekend morning recently, so I took the dive. I got there a little before 9am and found a spot to park on Roosevelt Ave about 2 blocks away. It was paid parking, but it wasn't too bad (I think the rate was 25 cents per 15 minutes). I had ordered online so I was able to go up to them and ask for my order without waiting on line. It turns out they didn't have my order ready but it didn't take too long for them to pack it up for me. The young lady I spoke with was ultra friendly and nice, so that was very much appreciated. So I got home and unpacked my meal. I got five tamales: 2 rojo, 1 verde, 1 mole, and 1 rajas pollo. As per my receipt, they were $1.50 each, and there was $0.22 of processing fees and $0.67 of sales tax. So the grand total was $8.38. I'm actually not sure if the tamales are cheaper at the cart, so if someone could verify w/ me, that'd be appreciated. I guess the prices for these tamales have risen; I would've loved it if they were only $1 each like they were a few years ago but still, street food doesn't get much cheaper than this in 2022. Overall the tamales were excellent. I probably liked the red ones the best. The corn flavor on them is nice and the meat adds a welcome heartiness. The chicken one with jalepeno was also a highlight as well. I ended up sharing two of them with friends, so I might've missed the mole one. They are a little small so I'd say 3-5 of them should be satisfactory for one person depending on their appetite. So I'd definitely give this 5 stars based on my experience. A huge thing was how nice the young lady I spoke with was, because you don't expect good customer service at all from a NYC street food vendor. So I'd recommend this place for sure.

I didn't know that this place existed near my Jackson Heights, Queens nabe. Went there last week and ordered Chilaquiles and Beef al pastor tacos. Last time I had chilaquiles was in Cancún. I fell in-love with this breakfast dish while on vacation in Cancún. Evelia's serves it with avocado slices + rice. The beef al pastor was yummy. I do want to check the sausage tacos next time. I will come back.

Amazing tamales! We got one with the green chile and chicken, one with the red chili and pork, and the jalapeno cheese. They were all incredible with so much flavors. I love the broth that was used to season the corn- it added so much depth of flavor. The corn was also soft and oh so tender. There was a good balance of filling to corn. My favorite was surprisingly the chili and pork. The pork belly was fatty and flavorful, and the chili balanced it well. It wasn't too spicy either. The green chili and chicken was a lighter option but still worth a try! I ate 2 to be full but pushed myself to eat 3 Come support this business!

The official first review of 2023 and rightfully so it should be for one of my favorite cuisines, Mexican. Tamales is normally a staple for breakfast as sometimes tacos are. But they are great at anytime as long as you reheat them properly. They are best when eaten straight away and piping hot. These tamales however had to make a bit of travel so they got cold. So sadly I had to heat them up a bit. I'm glad I did because the tamale Oaxaqueno and the Rojo Puerco ones definitely looked a bit under cooked. The thickness of the pork and or in the case of the Oaxaqueno one was wrapped in heavy banana leaf and lots of tamales. So perhaps it was harder to cook thoroughly. I would highly recommend double checking before taking big bites. The pollo versions were strips of meat so those were fully cooked as is. I would say the Mole Pollo and the Raisin ones were my favorite in taste. Mole if you know or don't know is a traditional chocolate based sauce from Oaxaca. It reminded me of my previous trip to that city. On my trip to Oaxaca, I didn't quite enjoy the champurrado atole there. But maybe I didn't grabbed them from the right vendor. THIS champurrado atole from Evelia's I did enjoy. It had the perfect consistency between the masa and chocolate. Delicious! Only thing to make my atole better? If I had spiked it with some rum or tequila and make it a Mexican hot chocolate. Service was quick and cordial as I did come within 30 minutes of them opening. They also have a storefront version of Evelia's Tamales which I'll try next time. Quality wise it was consistent compared to the tamales that I ate in Mexico. FAN!

Great authentic mexican spot. The staff was helpful with the questions that we had and the food was delicious. I felt like I was in Mexico while eating there. This place can get busy so make sure to get there at a good time. They also had a very clean bathroom.

Anyone who knows Roosevelt Ave, knows there is an abundance of tamale vendors from Woodside to Flushing. Whether they operate from a truck or a shopping cart, there is plenty of quality options to consider. Easily one of the best is Evelia's, who is situated right next to the Junction Blvd stop in the heart of Corona. Her excellent variety of tamales have made her a mainstay in the community for the last few years. Her food cart often had a crowd gathering around it, all taking in the delightful smells of her tamales steaming away in their bins / pots. They were the perfect breakfast when people were commuting and am ideal snack on the go. By mid afternoon she was normally sold out, so the early morning was usually the best time to be there. At about $1-1.25 each, her tamales are incredibly affordable. There are other carts that offer lower prices, but they can't hold a candle to Evelia's quality. Many of these tamales are nice and plump, creamy to the bite and a savory finish. I am partial to both the verdes and rojos with some of their signature hot sauce. Rajas con queso comes in at a close second but really all of them are tasty. I am thrilled she's finally getting a bit recognition from localvores, social media enthusiasts, and people who don't live in Corona. Given our recent situations, her business is as vital as ever. We can all do better, one delicious tamale at a time.

Nice, plenty of room.

Yes, my first trip to New York, and I had seen a post on instagram. So I had to make a pit stop . Luckily I stayed near by to try early breakfast to get warm. Yes , the chumpurrado was so good . I had the cookie atole de galleta was so warm and not too sweet. Rate 4.5 on the tamale de Birria 4.0 . The chile con queso tamale 4.5 the pineapple tamale was amazing. overall a nice place to come visit again. Do highly recommend this place. Honest women working to provide great service

Are you absolutely kidding me? These $1 tamales are incredible! Savory and sweet options available, all ready to go move quickly. The Red Sauce and pork with tender fatty morsels of meat was my favorite but quick frankly all the varieties I sampled were all equally tasty. The Jalepeno with Chicken is great for those looking for heat, while those looking for a hint of sweetness, the Mole Chicken. The best part of both varieties is that the shredded chicken is most definitely not dry. I asked for mine on their own but it looks like most ask for theirs stuffed in a hoagie roll. A couple of friendly ladies run this cart with some really odd hours of operation. Make sure you check before you head out or call ahead to place an order. On a recent Sunday afternoon there was a line of 8 deep at 10:30am.

I think this is the mole.
M C.

Tamales heaven! Great price, great taste, very filling. My favorite is the oaxaqueno tamales--both the pork and chicken. It's a square type, meatier and lighter, more delicate masa covering. Next would be the spicy varieties. Not fond of the sweet one but that's a personal preference.

The menu is entirely in Spanish but the waiters can help if needed. We ordered the Gobernador taco, a half dozen shrimp, the regular guacamole and the aguachiles verdes. The Gobernador was a large size - really more like a mini quesadilla than a taco in my mind. It was flavorful and filled with seafood. The half dozen shrimp were cooked well, but a little hard and messy to peel. The guac was good, a little oily but tasty. The aguachiles were really good but borderline too spicy for me. The spice continued to build as I ate them and it did feel less enjoyable but it was good to start. My main grievance with this restaurant was how loud it was. I was yelling and struggling to hear what my friend or the waiter said, but the food was delicious. Maybe if it were less crowded it would be ok, but definitely not a great atmosphere for having a conversation.

Personally, I found the adobo tamale to be slightly better in terms of flavor but both were equally well made with its rich, flavorful seasoning. My sister, who has tried tamales before, mentioned that these were even better than the ones she got from the random tamale table (near Woodside), thanks to the diverse flavor options available and how fresh they came out. The customer service here was exceptional. A friendly lady approached us, handed us menus, and took our order with a warm smile. Even though tipping isn't required, their service went above and beyond, making us feel genuinely welcome. We also couldn't resist trying the birria taco ($4), which arrived piping HOT. It was generously stuffed with birria, making it a hearty and satisfying choice. While it was a tad salty for my taste, my sisters thoroughly enjoyed it and had no complaints. Our total order came out to a little less than $10 for three people, which was perfect for a light snack before heading home for our protein dinner (get that protein intake in! EEEEEEEEEE)

I had read about Oaxacan tlayudas, large crisp tortillas coated with a layer of mashed black beans and sprinkled with savory toppings, while trip planning, and I was intrigued. I noticed the Sr. San Pablo cart advertising tlayudas when I was at Corona Plaza a few weeks ago, and prioritized a return visit. Since then, I've tried a steak taco and the combination meats tlayuda, and both were delicious. The steak taco had juicy and well-seasoned meat, a flavorful tortilla, and amazing spicy sauce. The tlayuda was large enough for 2-3 people to share. In addition to the large base tortilla and bean spread, the combination variety had chorizo, steak, and seasoned pork (the best) for the meats, stringy Oaxacan cheese, tomato, and avocado. There were red and green salsas and escabeche pickles available for garnishes. I would have liked a little lime to add some sparkle to all of the savory flavors. There are 4 small stools and a covered table next to the cart to sit and eat, but I can't imagine it'd be a fun experience in bad weather. Definitely check this place out.
