This electric vehicle charging station is located in a paid parking lot near the UNC Charlotte Center City campus. They are Nissan-branded chargers but apparently have the customary J-1772 plugs and are not networked.
The parking lot https://www.yelp.com/biz/preferred-parking-lot-charlotte-2?hrid=FldEo1vaR_yYs-tx1Zo0Pw is not free and there is no indicator that these dedicated parking spots are excepted from that requirement. The sign does say that there is a four hour limit.
Depending on the angle of the Sun, you might well be in the shade. There is plenty nearby to do while you wait for the electrons, including First Ward Park https://www.yelp.com/biz/first-ward-park-charlotte?hrid=_MEa9d3U2vjB-cEK9AevRw and the amazing 7th Street Public Market https://www.yelp.com/biz/7th-street-public-market-charlotte?hrid=OT-RCZDHhlW6L5hpQdWP3w.
