It was a bit chilly so we sat inside even though the outside patio was heated. It was a good choice because it was a little breezy. We shared the okra as an appetizer, it was as good as I remembered! They had a special which we both decided was good, surf & turf with NY strip and lobster tail. I also brought a bottle of Freixnet Cordon Negra which was so good! We were a bit disappointed that the steak we ordered as medium rare, came out rare on both our entrees. Overall it was a memorable evening and just what I had hoped for a special occasion!

Waitress just didn't follow up. My water sat unrefilled for a long time. Fried okra didn't taste like okra - but that suited a few of the party. But a few of us expected okra flavor only to be disappointed. Temp on the fried green tomatoes should have been warmer but overall it was very tasty. Our appetizer empty plates sat for a while - we even stacked them so it was clear they should be cleared. Ordered the salmon, which was good, but so did my mom. We ordered different temps and they couldn't tell which was which. Wife ordered a salad and for the price, there was barely anything there. Mac and cheese is still the star. Oysters were decent - I expected larger. The half chicken was a generous portion - nice crispy outside but a bit dry inside. I wouldn't order it (I almost did, but my one of our party did). One of our party ordered a stuffed leeks and it was so salty it was inedible. They did fix it and admitted it should have never left the kitchen. By the time the replacement came out it was after 6:05 (and they had to leave at 6:15). So they didn't get to eat their celebratory meal with the rest of us. Not the memory you want for a meal. Desserts were good. Tort was dense - honestly not sure if that's normal. Crème brûlée was very good. For a $400+ experience and our history with Pump House, I expected more.

The prices are on the high end, but this is a hotel with high end standards. Walking in the late afternoon/early evening, I was promptly greeted by a lovely young lady with strawberry blond hair. I wish I could remember her name. Anyway, she got me a room at the lowest price. I was on the side facing I-77, but I could hear NO highway noise at all. One Queen bed, flat screen TV mounted on the wall. A refrigerator and microwave hidden away in a cabinet. I had a bad headache settling in behind my eyes from spending all day in the sun. I went back to the front desk as I noticed they had sundry items for sale. The strawberry blond haired lady was with her niece, but stopped everything to give me some of her own ibuprofen so I would not have to purchase it, and I got some Gatorade. That was SO nice of her, she did not have to do that at all. There was a small café area in the lobby, but I did not get anything from there. I am so grateful for this lovely hotel. I will be back again if I am in the area again. It is very close to the highway and easy to get in and out. There is an Outback Steakhouse within walking distance as well. Several gas stations are close by to get gas and go.

Yet, I was placed in a room right beside the image below, where transient workers came and went all day. There are no security checks, anyone can enter the hotel and take the elevator to any floor, and no one answers the front desk phone. After endless ringing, I went downstairs at 11pm to find a sign stating "We are temporarily away from the front desk and will return shortly." It's 12:03am and no one has returned. I suppose Marriott's definition of "shortly" is relative.

I had celebrated there the year before and had such a wonderful experience, so I was really looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, this visit fell very short of our previous experience. The atmosphere upstairs on such a beautiful evening was lovely, and I appreciated being seated there. However, the service throughout the night was extremely disappointing. There appeared to be only two bartenders also handling serving duties, and from the moment we arrived, we felt poorly greeted. Our waitress never introduced herself, offered drink recommendations, or created much of a welcoming experience at all. It took at least 10 minutes just to receive water for the table, and much longer for cocktails. Service felt very disorganized throughout the evening. When food arrived, dishes were essentially auctioned off at the table as though no one knew who had ordered what. One guest in our party didn't even receive her appetizer until after her entrée had already arrived. What made the experience more disappointing was how different it felt from our visit the previous year. At that time, our server was energetic, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely engaging. He asked what we were celebrating and even brought out a complimentary dessert for the table to share, which made the night feel special and memorable. I understand restaurants can have off nights, especially with large parties, but this experience lacked the level of hospitality and organization we had previously enjoyed and expected.

He expects excellence at the gym and out of the gym - for example, one child had a bad behavior report from school and he was given a writing assignment by Coach Jones to hand in during next class (300 lines! A great learning lesson). He provides these kids life skills on how to be a responsible adult in life. For example, the boys had homework to go home and learn to tie a necktie. Another time, they had to all write a paragraph about why they love their parents and had to read it in front of the class because Coach Jones said public speaking is a very important skill for a leader. I love his style and commitment to building strong and capable adults. Highly recommend!
