Despite working with other trainers, her behavior only got worse- she ended up biting a dog walker we had hired and would behave so wildly/aggressively in public that we got to the point of saving her walks until night-time when no other people or dogs were around. It was embarrassing and we had no idea what to do. We found Lena online and immediately after talking to her on the phone, I knew she was the real deal. After ONE session with Lena, Roxie no longer pulled on the leash (she had always been very bad at pulling) and we already saw an improvement in her social behavior. We had a total of 5 sessions with Lena, the last one being in March of this year before moving to Florida. With each session, Roxie made huge improvements and we were also taught how to effectively reinforce her training between sessions and communicate with her. Roxie is like a brand new dog now. We moved to downtown Miami, so there are people/dogs everywhere, as well as busses, cars, etc and she shows no anxiety or aggression at all. We also adopted another dog in June and he and Roxie are the best of friends. Before, Roxie could not be around other dogs at all. And now, she has a brother who she totally loves! One of those dogs, Indy, turned out to be dog aggressive, and at one point I was very close to returning her because I simply didn't know how to manage her behavior. Jason completely changed that for us. He helped me understand Indy's behavior, recognize her limitations, and, most importantly, learn how to put her in situations where she could be successful. He was also realistic with me. Indy was never going to be a dog-park dog, and he didn't promise that she would be. Instead, he helped us work toward a much more meaningful goal: allowing her to comfortably and safely be around the dogs belonging to our family and close friends. We always joked that Indy believed in quality over quantity when it came to her friendships. Because of what Jason and Canine Scholars taught us, Indy was able to live a long, happy, and low-stress life with our family. I will always be grateful for that. Fast forward 13 years, and we adopted a new puppy, Donut. It had been so long since we had a puppy that we had completely forgotten how much work they can be! Add in the fact that Donut is a Great Pyrenees, and all of those independent, stubborn Great Pyrenees traits came shining through. I reached back out to Jason, and one of the first things that impressed me was that after 13 years, he still remembered Indy. Donut went through training with Canine Scholars, and the difference has been incredible. Jason worked with her on everyday manners and commands like recall and "place." Before training, getting Donut to come inside when called was nearly impossible. We would literally end up chasing a giant puppy around the yard trying to get her inside. Now, her recall is fantastic. She also walks beautifully on a leash, to the point that even my young daughters are able to walk her comfortably. For such a large dog, that gives us so much confidence and makes everyday life with her much easier. What I appreciate most about Jason is that his training isn't about trying to turn every dog into the same type of dog. He understands their personalities, breeds, strengths, and limitations and teaches owners how to set their dogs up for success. Thirteen years and two very different dogs later, we are still incredibly happy with Canine Scholars. Jason had a huge impact on the life we were able to give Indy, and now he has helped us build the same kind of strong foundation with Donut. We continue to recommend Canine Scholars to our friends and family without hesitation. We rescued our dog, Romeo. He was almost a year old and was described as "a little shy at first"…read moreand "working on leash training but doing well." Turns out he was scared of everything. He had never been exposed to people or traffic or noise. And when he walked on a leash, I had to carry him back. I called a few dog trainers. One told me he couldn't help my dog. Period. Another told me that she'd have to take my dog away for a month (even though we'd just adopted him) and shock him. When I asked them both if they would be willing to meet him first they said no. One finally acquiesced and said if you want me to come to your house and pay me $200 to tell you what I just told you, I will. I was feeling pretty hopeless to say the least. And then my friend saw the AFDT business card. I called the number and Cailyn immediately made me feel better! She said of course we can help your dog and would be willing to meet him. Things changed during the first session. Romeo not only walked on a leash, he walked back! And our trainer taught us about our dog. She said he was the "back of the pack" and needed us to lead. And then in our next sessions, she showed us how! By the end of his training, he not only had the confidence to meet other people and dogs...he did it at a crowded brewery! Two of them! Last year they sold the business to the current owner who has run things down hill. She is a curt and abrasive communicator. It is clear she feels she has plenty of clients and doesn't need you or your pet. The final straw for us was her cancelling a reservation for Memorial Day one week out, a reservation made almost 2 months in advance, leaving us to scramble to find new care. Not reliable and not professional so I highly recommend that you spend your money elsewhere for better care. Honestly I really am very sad to see what has happened to the good name the original owners created and even more disappointed to have to write this review but do feel that others need to know. Updating because the response is sadly a blatant lie as the last text message string received from the owner said "If something comes up we will have to go ahead with visits without meeting the pups," so there was no warning that rescheduling a visit days in advance is a "cancellation" nor a phone call or text message before sending a very confusing system generated cancellation of our visits one week out from the busy holiday weekend. Yet another reason to stay away. If you can't be honest or even pick up the phone to tell a client you are canceling on them and why, your service is severely lacking.

I was lucky enough to find Charlotte Pups because my neighbor uses them. We recently adopted our dog and have a great schedule worked out, but my fiance had to travel out of town for a week and he is usually the lunch walker. I called Stephanie at Charlotte pups and IMMEDIATELY knew that this was the right team to have on my dogs side. She refers to your animal as a baby and when I called she apologized for being flustered but when she was walking a client's dog she noticed that the dog had bloody diarrhea. She immediately called the owner and when the owner was not able to leave work immediately they volunteered to take the dog to the vet. Both Stephanie and Leah were there just to make sure the little pup was alright. Talk about service, my gosh. An added bonus is that their website is super easy to use and schedule on. You can pick how long you want them to visit for, if you want them to walk/feed/play, what hours to visit, etc. They also do overnight stays and offer to water plants, raise blinds, turn on alarms, rotate the lights, etc. But the best part is they check in with you after every visit. You get a little text letting you know how it went, if your animal used the bathroom, and sometimes even a picture! I wish my fiance provided that quality of service, haha! Overall I am so glad to have found the Charlotte Pups team. They are a true pleasure to work with and love animals - what more could you ask for?

My foster pit was with them about 12 years ago, and even then I saw the depth of their commitment, compassion, and integrity. Years later, nothing has changed except that the need has grown and they continue to show up anyway. They do far more than just place animals. They advocate, problem-solve, network, fundraise, transport, foster, and emotionally carry cases that most people would walk away from. They step in when animals are overlooked, misunderstood, or discarded, and they do it with care, patience, and respect for both the animals and the humans involved. Rescue work is exhausting, thankless, and often met with criticism rather than support. Catering to Cats and Dogs continues to do it because they genuinely care, even when it is hard, even when it hurts, and even when the outcomes are uncertain. They are exactly the kind of rescue this world needs more of. I will always be grateful for the role they played in my foster's life, and I deeply respect the volunteers who continue to give so much of themselves to help animals who have already been failed by humans.
