Enter Lafayette Dental Excellence. Dr. Leo, Jane, Mary, and Barb are everything I'd hoped to find, but never thought I would. Dr. Leo excels in the traits I value most in a dentist: patience, attention to detail, and outstanding knowledge of the most up-to-date advances in dentistry - in addition to foundational knowledge from experience, of course. Oh and, of equal import, compassion for my terror of anything remotely related to dental issues. Dr. Leo's assistant, Jane, could not be more kind and efficient. Mary, the office manager, is incredibly knowledgeable as well, so kind (must be a prerequisite for the office), and just fun to talk to - even in the midst of a painful dental emergency. Finally, Barb, my very first introduction to the office when I called, is warm and engaging. She sold me on giving the office a try, and I am so glad I did. Highly recommend this team.

I explained that I wanted to have a healthy mouth with a great smile. I have been to several dentist over my life time but never one as caring as Dr keene. In the past I was not given much of a chance to be apart of my dental health so it was hard to get behind a treatment plan when it wasn't one that I was involved in. I was told what was needed by the Doctor and never asked what I wanted to achieve with my dental health. I have never been so excited to get behind my treatment. I started my treatment plan that day. Dr Keene and his assistant were very caring about how I was doing with every step of the treatment . Dr Keene wanted me to have a great experience so he asked me if I wanted to do more work before he started with the next steps of MY treatment plan. Sage did, but she kept giving me numbing shots then checking if the proper area was numbed, it took several shots and meantime it seemed she was injecting in the improper place because my throat was becoming numb while it took three placement tries before my lip where she was tapping was. So while the filling was happening I was choking because I could not swallow right. Then, the replacement filling was weirdly rough on the side of my tooth, other dentists remarked on the weirdness of it later, and part of it fell off after a couple years.

The receptionist was efficient but could have been a bit more outgoing and welcoming. My cleaning was great and they found a tooth needing a crown. After a couple fillings over nearly thirty years, this tooth needed a protective cap installed. Over a couple visit last, they worked on my mouth and gave me a great fitting cover. We flew him home the next day, and the doctor met us at her office after hours on a weekend to assess him and help manage his pain. The result was nothing short of magical. Dr. Schafer is a true artist, and her kind, confident demeaner made a traumatic experience less terrifying. True to her word, my son's beautiful smile was (temporarily) restored within the hour. I have always known she is an amazing dentist, but this experience really showed her artistry, professionalism, and genuine kindness. I wouldn't go to any other dentist, and neither would my son!
