We enjoyed the experience at Etude and their delicious wines! We sat out on the beautiful lawn and enjoyed tasting through the menu... we especially loved that they had a variety of wine...Carnaros sparkling and Pinot Noir as well as Cabernet from the Coombsville District. Our server brought some nice cheeses to try with the wines. I loved that they allowed us to have as much time as we wanted to enjoy, and we never felt rushed. It was a nice laid back vibe. I also LOVED that they sell a brandy... something most Napa and Carnaros wineries don't do. BTW The brandy was not part of the tasting. If you're coming to Etude, they specialize in Pinot Noir and Cabernet primarily. You will not see a Merlot or Sauvignon Blanc on the list. We had the $60 wine tasting, which does not come with a charcuterie board. They do have some charcuterie items on their menu which you can purchase separately. $60 gets you a private table on the lawn or under an outside pergola. Walk-ins can head to the bar inside. In the heat of the summer, it's a little uncomfortable in their outside seating area and there's very little seating inside (7 spots only). We opted for inside. Sean was our wine guide, he was highly informative and entertaining concerning the wines he poured for us. Inside the gift shop there's not much in the way of merchandise, but you can buy some older vintages of wine and they do have a 50% off section. We visited Etude as a walk-on on a weekday morning because we had time to squander before our first reservation of the day. We were welcomed warmly in the courtyard area and then walked in to the tasting room, where we were helped right away. We ordered one tasting to share but there was confusion so we ended up with two, which isn't the end of the world. Overall, these were some of the best wines of our stay in Napa. We enjoyed the Terroir tasting, which included pours of their single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Sauvignons. It also came with some insightful knowledge from our host of the region, soil composition, and weather patterns that influence the wine making process. It was a lovely experience, though my one criticism would be that our host was a little too persistent in her presence. We would have been more likely to make a purchase if we'd been left alone for even a few minutes to consider the menu of options. And while she was very friendly, knowledgeable, and well-intentioned, giving guests some space to enjoy their experience privately between pours can go a long way. We would definitely revisit this one (and have already recommended it to friends who are planning visits). read more

The Service We came here with a large group of 17 people. They were at first hesitant to take a group larger than 12 but once they accepted our reservation everything was very smooth and accommodating. As a large group from far away we arrived in batches - those that arrived early were welcomed inside with water and got to hang out to wait for the rest of the group. They were also kind about waiting for a car that was late for our group and we started 10 minutes late for them. The Location We were setup outside on the beautiful groups at tables of 4 all clustered together with large white square umbrellas. It was gorgeous with the ivy climbing up their lovely production building and the main winery building off to the side. The wines and tasting The staff were wonderful, pouring and explaining each wine, the region, and explaining general wine information to our group that had novice and seasoned wine tasters. The wines were lovely - the rose refreshing, the first pinot noir a bit acidic and strong, the second pinot noir very very tasty (we got 2 bottles), and the final cab sauv was a great round out to the tasting. Overall great winery, very beautiful, friendly knowledgeable staff, and tasty wines. Cant get much better for group. read more

I'd recommend this for its beautiful property but not for the service. We had just come from Bouchaine down the road and had had the most amazing experience with the service and that was at the lowest tier. The wine was good and while our pourer was nice, she did not create an experience for us, which we look for when we go out to Napa. Otherwise, we could've gotten a nice property and good wine here in the Santa Cruz mountains/Los Gatos/Saratoga area near where we're from. read more

Etude was such a lovely spot for a wine tasting! It's a smaller vineyard, but I actually think I prefer that, as it was a more personal touch from the people we interacted with to the story of all the different wines we tried. We sat outside, and the view of the vineyards made it feel so peaceful and relaxing. The staff was friendly and helpful, making sure we had a great experience without being over the top. We had never been to Etude wines before but we left impressed and a little tipsy. When I saw an event listing for their Blanc de Noir release party on Wine Country This Week ( a great one stop source for wine country events), I knew this was a party I didn't want to miss! We arrived right around 2 and were greeted by the friendly staff and given a glass of their newly released sparkler and it was spectacular. Dry and bright with lemon mousse and very light toast. They had put out a spread of charcuterie but first stop was the Oyster bar. They were shucking medium Vancouver Miyagis and wow, just wow. They were creamy, sweet and lightly briny, perfect for the sparkling wine. We found a table and friendly servers came by with more treats including cucumber sandwiches (English high tea style, crust less with cream cheese, mushroom empanadas, veg cups with green goddess dressing and super tasty shrimp ceviche on tortillas. We ate, drank and were merry. We even got to try their Rose', 2 Pinots (Heritage was my fave) and their kicking Cab. We thought we were done but then the desserts came out, blackberry mini cheesecakes and two flavors of macaroons. Every single member of the staff was friendly, fun and helpful. This is definitely going to be an annual event for us. See you there next year. read more

We got a tasting reservation for 3:45 pm, which I soon realized was a little odd since they close at 4pm. So when we arrived the place was empty. Their grounds are quite nice with a few vines and a nice courtyard for outdoor tastings. It was a little chilly so we opted to have our tasting indoors. The lady who served us (can't remember her name) was VERY knowledgeable about wines, regions, growing, soils, etc. She really gave us quite the education. Maybe a little too much information because at some point we just wanted to enjoy the wine and chat among ourselves. Their wines are mostly pinots and they are very good. They have snacks that you can purchase separately with your tasting. We had some black truffle potato chips and OMG they are addicting. I bought 2 more bags to bring home. OMG!!!! In a Napa world of Cabernets, you have this Diamond specializing in Pinots!!! Where do I start? So, the service is AMAZING! James helped us this time; I truly wish I could take him home and make him my BFF. He had an unparalleled knowledge of the Napa growing region and a knack for explaining the nuances of the wines. The wine selection: what can I say? Superlatives are inadequate when describing the Etude wine selections. What made me fall in love with the Pinots is the versatility. A Pinot can be paired with a red meat & fish with equal enjoyment. Etude Pintos take excellence to a whole different level. They exemplify what Pinots are supposed to be. The winery has a new outdoor area but the cheap fake grass really detracts from the setting and gets pretty hot. Tim was our guide for the afternoon and while friendly and polite it was clear he was stressed, unhappy, and rigid. Almost like he was annoyed we were there. The wines were OK but expensive for what they are. I dont think there's any food worth pairing if youre a serious vinophile and the whole ambiance is just sort of Napa snob.​ There are so many great wineries in Napa, this experience wasn't one of them. read more

(9/18/22 Visit) We had a lovely wine tasting experience at Etude. I had not heard of them before so was excited for the visit. Our hostess was wonderful, I wish I remembered her name. She was so friendly, gave us the background on the wines and answered our questions. The pace of the tasting was well planned. I usually drink Pinot Noir and they had 3 on the Collectors Tasting Menu. They asked if we wanted them to pour the Pinot Noir wines individually to taste one by one, or all 3 at once to compare. We went with all 3 at once and they marked the glasses for reference. I really enjoyed them all. I don't really drink white wine but I loved their 2020 Pinot Gris. Etudes was our last tasting of the day. The sun was setting, it was nice and warm out. Beautiful scenery around the winery, great for photo opportunities. It was Valentine's weekend so getting reservations was relieving. This winery is dog friendly, so for all you dog lovers, this is a great place to brings your dogs. Nice little area for them to relax and run as well. We were seated in the courtyard, with an umbrella to block the setting sun. It was nice. We had a very nice lady assist us with our wine tasting, Miyuki. She was so sweet and passionate about the wine. She explaining everything thoroughly. We were excited to check out Etude due to enjoying other Pinot Noirs from the Carneros region. We made reservations ahead of time and were seated immediately upon checking in. Our host was nice and provided a lot of education but also stayed and talked A LOT. Usually I appreciate when they tell you about the wine and let you then sample on your own- we were given our first sample but then our hostess stayed a good 5-10 minutes listening to education (which was interesting but would have appreciated breaking up some of that stuff), she also started repeating stuff and then our wine was warmer when we wanted to try it. There were maybe 4 tables outside with guests and at least 10 tables inside that were empty. The group next to us were given multiple extra tastings. We didn't love any of our Pinot Noirs and wanted to try a different region since we like to leave with at least one bottle from each winery. Our server said they were "too busy" (not sure how especially with all the empty tables and time she spent with us, we were also under our 60 minute "time limit" that they set) and could not offer us any more. However, if we wanted to join the wine club then we could get an extra pour. So...do you or do you not have time / open wine? Also, we explained that we do not live in a state where their wine club ships so we couldn't even join. She said instead we could leave with 3 bottles at 10% off- I don't often buy expensive wine without even sampling it. The wine we tried was fine but nothing that stood out. This was by far our most awkward experience and definitely stands out from the trip but not in a positive way- this would be the only winery from our trip that I would not revisit. I know the tastings include a set amount but I have never been to a winery that doesn't even offer an additional pour. read more

Etude truly epitomizes the beauty of tasting in Napa's Carneros Valley. Not only will you be swept away by the breathtaking views of their grand estate, but you'll also fall in love with their incredible wines and the story of how they came to be. We came to Etude for a delightful tasting and also embarked on a tour of their beautiful estate. We began our wine tasting journey with splashes of Etude's refreshing Rosé of Pinot Noir. I'm typically not a fan a Rosé, but I have to admit that this Rosé was light and enjoyable. The perfect start to a wonderful afternoon! Our very intriguing tour of the estate was led by the ever so passionate sommelier, Robert. We started near the vineyards where we learned that many of the surrounding vines were actually grown to produce Brandy and Brandy Pinot Noir. Remy Martin once owned this vineyard, which was another fun fact that I didn't know. We made our way into their first barrel room where we were poured splashes of their Heirloom and Ellenbach Pinot Noir. The name "Ellenbach" stemmed from Remy Martin's long and tedious excursion up to the top of a hill where he produced this Pinot Noir. It was said that when he made the journey up this hill, he felt like he had been to "Hell and back" hence "Ellenbach". Pretty funny! Finally, we were taken to their second barrel room where their delicious Cabernet Sauvignon is produced! We enjoyed splashes of their Napa Valley and Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon alongside a very tasty cheese and cracker board. My favorite wine was their Coombsville Cabernet! It was well balanced for a Cab, but still had that nice bold finish. However, all of the wines that we tried left a wonderful lasting impression on us. Each wine had a very distinctive taste and each one was incredibly tasty. We continued the party by meandering throughout their grounds. With views of their vineyards and all of Carneros, you'll be hesitant to even want to leave this place. They've got several covered picnic tables on their outdoor patio and comfy couches to lounge on inside of the tasting room. Their staff is full of incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable sommeliers. Never once did a question go unanswered and never once did I feel uncomfortable while I was there. In fact, their tasting room was so lively and upbeat that you'd think that you were attending a friend's party! I love the fact that they also sell and produce Brandy here as well. I'm not the biggest fan of dark liquor, but it was fun to sample a few. Just like wine, you never know what you like until you try it. This was without a doubt one of my most enjoyable Napa Valley wine tasting experiences yet. I cannot wait to return and I would recommend Etude to anyone who is looking to experience what the Carneros Valley truly has to offer. read more

I always loved visiting the Carneros region of Napa. Not many make a pitstop here, they like the tourist traps of St. Helena, Yountville, and Calistoga. I say "wine not" visit this hidden gem with best of both worlds (Sonoma & Napa counties). It's more chill and intimate, less chaotic without the big tour buses. They make a refreshing pinot noir rosé, a glass a day keeps the doctor away. We learned that Remy Martin produced brandy here as a joint venture with Schramsberg Vineyards. Ask for a tasting j/k, they don't offer brandy tastings; however, you can purchase a bottle for $150 ~ "wine not". I tasted the Ellenbach, and it really stole my heart, as if I was sipping through the lusciousness of Sonoma Coast. The distinctive notes of fruit and rich tannins stood out for me. I knew I had to purchase a bottle for home to open up in 2020, or just overnight LOL. The Etude team is knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. Come and relax here, sip on some tasty vino, and enjoy the scenery. You'll ask yourself why it took so long to find a gem like this...you're welcome. My big surprise from my first visit to Etude was how much I loved their Cabernet. Very smooth, particularly the Coombsville. For me, those were the standouts - now I just need to save up to buy a bottle. Instead, I left with a nice dry Rose, made with Pinot Noir grapes. All of their Pinots have an acidity that's balanced by a nice fruitiness. You can do a tasting focused specifically on Pinots or Cabernets, which is a nice touch. Not the best tasting I've ever had. Our hostess was very warm and welcoming. The tasting room isn't huge, and features vast ceilings with modern minimalistic features​. In an unlikely move, I stopped in without a reservation for a regular walk-in tasting. I'm usually not a fan of tasting wine like that, and this one further solidified​ that opinion. Although it wasn't too crowded (just a couple of weeks after the fires), it seemed extremely commercialized​ and easily forgettable​. The tasting, as expected, featured fast pours all using the same glass and concluded​ with the push to join the wine club. Perhaps the way to go is to reserve one of the mor​e in-depth and specialized tastings where you taste and compare various vintages at a slower pace. Out of all the pours, I enjoyed the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon the most (the others were (2015 Chardonnay, 2016 Pinot Noir Rosé, 2015 Carneros Pinot Noir, 2014 Yamhill​ Vista Pinot Noir), but by then I was done and ready to move on. read more

We stopped at this gorgeous property prior to our engagement at the French laundry in '13. Before my experiences at etude I was not a big white wine consumer, let alone of chardonnay. - then, voila! The gentlemen whom tended our side of the bar insisted that I try the chardonnay kept and matured in stainless steel (you heard right) barrels to showcase the grape minus the influence of oak: it was bright, beautifully balanced glass of white. Came here with my bf last week and had a nice time. Was greeted by Cathi and as she was about to go to break she passed us off to Miyumi (I think that was her name). She was sooooo sweet and gave a very educational experience. She showed us the different types of soils from different vineyards and explained the terroir for each wine we had. She was very kind and took her time explaining everything. The wines were very good, among my favorites were the Coombsville cab and the heirloom Pinot noir. The interior is nice and intimate with a really nice bar. Along with the wines, they also have some brandy for purchase as they are not allowed to serve due to regulations. The brandy of Pinot Noir smelled particularly delightful and I may come back to purchase that. Overall, relaxed and enjoyable experience. Will come back. read more

I had no idea what to expect when I drove into the parking lot of Etude wines. Frankly, I had never heard of them....not one word about their wines. But apparently someone in my crew (The famous Napa Crew) knew something and so there I found myself at this establishment. Set in bucolic, off the beaten path locale, Etude has inviting grounds and modern decor inside. Usually, I find the wine sells itself, however, this time it was an active, lively dialogue with their new sales rep, John, who did a very good job not only making us welcome, but answering our questions with precision, accuracy, and a little bon vivant. Indeed, it was his familiarity with the wine that stuck a sale with me...and if I'm being really fair, it was a combination of his own appreciation and the wine itself that sold me. While what I drank could easily be a "Tuesday night wine," the price point is well beyond what one would pay for a causal weekday adult beverage. But it was worth it...there are some outstanding wines here, much to my surprise. I suspect I will be back though I must admit another wine club in my collection would be over the top. Still Etude will continue press grapes with our without my full patronage. And that is a very good thing, indeed! read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. Save your hard-earned money and go elsewhere. The pours are tiny and very stingy. Our server, Tim, took a long time between pours even though we were the only table there. When we arrived, the man at the front asked Tim if he had "time'" to take care of us. I felt like saying, "Tim has nothing but time because there is no one else here," so I'm not sure what that was about. What I really disliked was being served every pour in the same glass. What the heck was that? Service was so bad that I decided not to leave the huge tip they recommend on their receipt. The server went over to the cash register to look over the man's shoulder to see what tip he would get and, when he saw that I did not leave one, he made an audible moan. Save your precious time and money in Napa and go elsewhere. The wines they serve are not even from their vineyards; two of them are from Santa Barbara. read more

I never knew this winery was over here hidden from view on the right just off 121 and just a little farther in there Etude sits, beautiful grounds with outdoor seating and with nice big umbrellas for tastings plus a very large tasting room which was very modern has clean lines and a massive bar. I'd be lying if I say this winery is off the beaten path, because it's not, Etude is only 10 mins away from downtown Napa. Once you get here, you'll feel so far removed from modern society with its gorgeous surroundings:note the open wetlands, wandering animals (ducks!) and Masonry type building. To the side of this is a manicured lawn complete with plenty of seating on their patio. Inside is where it's really impressive. A new tasting room with high ceilings, well-chosen art, leather seating and sculptural lighting. Their wines for sale line the walls for easy perusing. At this point, you're wondering, can the wines hold up to the ambiance? You'd love their Pinot Noir which they specialize in. These small production wines have that Bordeux characteristic but the bright California attitude is there. We reserved the 1pm food and wine tasting, priced at $35 each. Our guy, Keenan was very laid back and cracked a few jokes with us while never losing track of wine notes and things to look out for while tasting our pairings. We had a great time! Etude also sells Alambic brandy (one from Pinot grapes and a XO) from the original pot stills and they are now two decades old! I'm not a brandy type person, but I'd imagine this would be a valuable addition to any "alcohol connoisseur's" collection. Were wine the barometer of culture, I'd surely be a philistine. On this happy note, with delusions of eloquence, here is my regurgitation of events as recorded by my pea-sized neanderthal gray matter, a troglodytic review from the wild side ... K and I drove up that sunny Sunday afternoon for the wine tasting with food-pairing. Upon arrival, we were offered a glass of Pinot Grigio as we waited out the few minutes before the tasting started. Our guide/sommelier ("Kanyan"?), a New York transplant, was both entertaining and very informative. On the cards were six wines with three two-bites hors deouvre to accompany them. The Pinot paired with the eggplant and goat cheese truly rocked. Just as we were told, the pinot tasted much sharper after having a bite of the goat cheese and eggplant hors doeuvre; I didn't really bother noting the names but this would be my second favourite pairing. I didn't care much for the next which were a couple of ports paired with a puff pastry entombed around seasoned minced rabbit. But, the best was saved for the last; the last Cabernet paired with the chocolate truffle was so good, it was more than enough to convince the skeptical me that this indeed was a bona fide dessert item! Now I am definitely going to include wine with truffle as a dessert item to placate my palate. read more

I knew there was a reason I like Etude!! OR's very own Tony Soter started Etude in 1980!!!! I first ever even heard of Etude wines during a lunch at Greystone, whereby I had ordered a flight to try alongside my meal. The first of the 3 was actually an Etude Pinot Gris. Introduction completed! Located in the heart of Carneros' wine designation of Napa is a very unassuming monastic-looking, sprawled out winery called Etude....just turn off the road that links Napa to Sonoma and head south for about 3 minutes... you will spot it. A fun reserved appointment for a food and wine pairing at Etude, known ostensibly for their pinot noirs and other reds. A sweeping view glanced from their patio, small freckles of ponds dotting their serene countryside, and a welcome into a glorious tasting area and bar. I just think it's so classy. The furniture is understated, and the walls are so very pretty! Once our group of six all convened, into a separate room we went, and were educated on the various food pairings with the wine (small 1-2 bite tapas)-- Tried was an eggplant wrapped in puff pastry, with Chenel's chevre and cured lemons with Spanish marconas (paired with whites) a Sonoma rabbit with allspice and a blood orange anise curd (paired with their famed Pinot) and lastly, a short rib terrine with black currants..(paired with GBR: a merlot and malbec hybrid) Sweet topper: delicate and small ras el-hanout truffles. (paired with Cab) Turns out their very Tony Soter (yes, of Soter in Willamette) went to France and studied the Pinot grape, learning its terroir, etc. What resulted is a very beautiful Pinot that falls onto the tongue and buds with grace, lingering and providing a very satisfying experience. Their 2 types of Pinots: Temblor and Deer Camp, the latter of which is created from three different plants. These wines keep best at 55F. What an enlightening time; good company around the table as well. PS I spotted a few cases of Etude's 2008 Pinots at my Costco for $30. Beats the $60 they were asking for there, yeah?! We were able to make a reservation the day before, but unfortunately, we couldn't bring our own food. When we arrived, they were cleaning all of the tables & practicing the requirements for the pandemic. There was hand sanitizer and we were given a clean pen. The staff wears masks & we did, too, when we walked around the winery & during our order. The staff was very friendly and treated our 21 year old twins with respect. This was their first winery and first time being carded. The experience was pleasant and only one other couple was present, but left minutes after we arrived. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. We never went inside. There are many places to sit in the shade and the weather was nice! Etude is known for their Pinot Noir's. I loved their pure Chardonnay and Rose' the most. My son liked the Heirloom Pinot. We would cone again!!! read more

Deanna is absolutely amazing! We had wonderful service and she knows her wines and can give great recommendations! I ended up loving their deer camp wine based on her recommendation. The service here is very friendly. If you reserve the tasting on tock please be aware that the gratuity/service charge is not auto included, something I embarrassingly didn't realize until too late since all other Tock reservations included it. I added a tip to my bottle purchase but didn't realize this about the tasting .Please keep this in mind and enjoy the wine! read more
