Planning a wedding is no small feat. My now husband and I were referred to Ethnic Essence and Smita in 2019 when we set off to plan our dream wedding in Palm Springs. We reached out to her about our decor desires for our big day and she worked with us to stay within our budget and still make all of our events look magical. Fast forward to March 2020, two months before our big day - we had to cancel our wedding due to COVID. After months of uncertainty and two attempts to reschedule, we finally settled on moving forward with a small, intimate wedding. Cutdown from 200 to 50 people, venue change to something more local in Malibu (we're from LA) and cutting down from 4 events to 1 - Smita worked with us to adjust all the little details so we could still celebrate our big day and that too safely! The ceremony space it was so ethereal and magical - everything turned out even better than I dreamed of in my head! Smita is a true visionary and brought everything I asked for to life! Everything came together so beautifully - from the palki sahib, to the entry archway, to my GORGEOUS bouquet (which I'm having preserved so I have a memory of it forever), to our amazing B&G table at the lunch -- I still can't stop thinking about it. We even had our planner back out of working with us less than two months before our wedding and we reached out to Smita to do month of coordination for us and she more than happily agreed. Her and her team (Alisha and Radhika), were so wonderful the day of and we were so gracious and thankful that we had them running point on our big day. We had delays and small hiccups, but they handled everything with calmness and care and made us feel so at ease. Their hard work, dedication, professionalism and most importantly attention to detail throughout this whole process blew us away. So many of my friends and family commented how impressed they were by them. We truly had a wonderful and memorable day celebrating and could not have done that without Smita, Alisha & Radhika's help. We're so appreciative of the part they played in making our wedding special. Highly recommend, look no further for your decor and planning needs! Especially for those looking to plan and execute small, intimate COVID safe weddings.

We cannot recommend Smita enough. She has a great eye for design and helped us create something that was truly our own. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the entire Ethnic Essence team (Smita, Jennifer, Shilpa & Neha) for everything they did to make our reception so special. From the moment we met, you made us feel like we were in good hands. You listened to our ideas and Jennifer was extremely organized, making sure all details were captured throughout the planning process. Smita & Jennifer were always available to answer our questions and offer their expert advice. On the day itself, you took care of everything and more! From your calm presence, anticipating what we would need throughout the event, and handling all logistics with our vendors. You made sure that everything went off without a hitch. We are so grateful for everything you did to make our day so memorable. We couldn't have done it without you & we're looking forward to working together again in the future!

Such an amazing experience with Smita Auntie and her team at Ethnic Essence. From our first conversation on the phone I knew that they understood my vision for our wedding and reception in Santa Barbara. Smita Auntie was honest and realistic with how we could stretch our moderate budget- and the results were exactly what we hoped for- natural, floral, and light! Their team is very professional, receptive to communication and feedback. The mood-board was very helpful in understanding that our visions were met. Also I was very impressed to see her at the venue before the wedding helping put together the mandap decor! My parents were initially nervous in that she was one of the few vendors they had not met with prior to the wedding- but they cannot stop talking about how impressed they were with the magical mandap. The moment we decided our wedding date, I knew that there were some vendors I absolutely HAD to have. Ethnic Essence was one of them and I booked them the day after our date was decided. My family and I had worked with Smita Aunty before for my sister's kathak performance so we were familiar with her style and expertise. Our initial consultation turned into a 2 hour conversation where we went back and forth on ideas and brainstormed different aspects of the wedding and pre-wedding decor! She understood that I had a specific feeling I wanted to portray with the decor and came up with so many ideas to bring it to life. Her background in design enables her to *very* quickly and accurately draw out and color what you come up with. I was actually really content with the drawing but smita aunty BLEW ME AWAY on the wedding day when I saw everything in person. I knew that I had a specific theme and vibe I wanted for each of my events and I am so grateful to the entire team: Smita Aunty, Iris, Darsha and the rest, for making everything we wanted and then some to happen during the wedding week. I found out weeks after the wedding, but Smita Aunty graciously added some more decor on the garba day to complete the rajasthan vibe due to some last week changes we had to make. Iris and the other decor assistants were SO excited to decorate sangeet night and it's these little things that really sets them apart from the crowd and turns a client-vendor relationship into something more. I read some of the previous reviews and to anyone who is hesitating to hire due to lack of communication in logistics, I truly believe Smita Aunty has taken care of that issue. I did not have any problems in that department. She and the team honestly went above and beyond in everything we needed to make our day perfect for us. Darsha was with me the moment I started getting ready during the wedding day and I was able to meet with her logistics coordinator a few weeks before the wedding at our venue. All of the vendors and were on the same page at all times. The excel spreadsheet is daunting at first but a lifesaver. The team helped us fill it out and her logistics coordinator looks over it for any missing pieces (and we had missed lots of important little details that she had caught) I don't think this review even does justice to all of the little things that Smita Aunty did to make our wedding perfect for us, but I'll end by saying thank you and we can't wait to work with you in the future!

05.19.2018 - APayalOfSuds wedding: Working with Smita and her entire team at Ethnic Essence was the best decision akhil and I made from the very beginning of planning our wedding. A year out from our wedding day, Smita took an entire day of her time on her day off (literally, she spent over 5 hours with us at our initial meeting) sketching out and getting a feel for the type of wedding we wanted - from decor, coordination, budget, color scheme, vendor recommendations (she's got a lot of connections, so it was nice knowing you'd get the best deal if she connected you), etc. In terms of decor, Smita's vision is what really reeled us in. You could tell she goes the extra mile to make sure the vision she has is 1) authentic to the bride and groom; and 2) unique and different as she thinks outside the box of what anyone has done before. She was able to bring our ideas of a succulent and rustic- themed dream wedding come to life. She also designed THE MOST incredible succulent bouquet that I always dreamed of having. It was truly a *succulent girl's* dream bouquet! Smita spent the time sketching all the details from the altar, centerpieces, backdrops, linens, layout, etc. for each of our 4 events, and put together an extremely helpful "creative board" for each event as inspiration for us until we were completely happy and satisfied. She also took the time and energy designing our wedding around our budget, which was really important to us. We had a beautiful Punjabi/Gujarati wedding which was a blend both traditional rituals and cultures. It was nice knowing that Ethnic Essence has done so many of these types of weddings that required the blending two different cultures, and they were able to mix both cultures as one flawlessly. You could really feel the love and happiness throughout the entire weekend, and we really owe that to Smita because of her understanding of both cultures, each of our families needs, and most importantly, making sure Akhil and I were happy. With regards to organization and execution, Smita and her entire team blew me away. They had shared google spreadsheets months prior leading up to the wedding from checklists, timelines, seating charts, responsibilities, etc which was so helpful and important for execution during our wedding weekend. We got so many compliments on how organized, beautiful, and ON TIME each event was, which is rare in Indian culture (well, since generally everything usually runs late). The team at Ethnic Essence was on top of their game throughout the entire weekend to make sure everything was on time. Even during wardrobe malfunctions, horse malfunctions (during the baraat), Smita and her team were right there to diffuse any situation such that nobody ever knew that anything happened to begin with! Planning a wedding is super stressful. Everyone's emotions are amplified x 100, so having a wedding planner and coordinator to alleviate alot of that stress is extremely important. We were so happy to have Ethnic Essence alleviate a lot of the nitty gritty details and coordination we didn't have to worry about on our wedding weekend because we knew they were trained to execute our vision in a way we would not be able to on our own! We can't thank Smita, Vanessa, Mary, and EVERYONE at Ethnic Essence for doing a phenomenal job working our wedding and making it the most memorable weekend of our lives.

My husband and I had a Persian/Indian fusion wedding at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott this past July and Smita and the wonderful team at Ethnic Essence did such an amazing job!!!! This team is so fantastic and they truly were with us from the beginning to end! From the day we began planning, they were curious and inquisitive, asking us great questions, I mean things that we never had even thought about! They captured our vision and adapted to our changes so easily, and patiently. They were delicate in balancing two cultures and figuring out how to make things work for us. Most importantly, they politely kept us on schedule for planning and the day of the events. We had a marathon of a day and it was so important to keep the wedding on track and the team kept it right on time! As a bride, I honestly had no stress in terms of planning and they didn't let me worry about a single thing. We had a few hiccups here and there as with any event, but the team came up with quick solutions and fixed things like it was nothing. They were kind with our guests and worked so well together! Our decor was what we imagined and more! I was in tears when I saw the finished product and our guests gushed about the flower arrangements for weeks! I honestly can't recommend them enough! They are professionals but they are also so personable! I am so grateful for all they did for us and can't thank them enough!

We had a good time working with Ethnic Essence, the team was wonderful in creating a wedding for me that I had only dreamt of. The entire team is delightful to work with. They provided decor, lightening and floral arrangements that were wonderful. They also had different types of center pieces and entrance pieces that were created just for my wedding. Smita and her team was quick to follow up on emails and phone calls. My only concerns were coordination. I felt there was lack of it during the day of the wedding. It was hard for me to get in touch with anyone from the team during the morning of my wedding. Also some details that were discussed before hand were not handled during the actual day. It was not anything that hindered the moment, but enough to remember that they were not done. Ethnic essence has a list of vendors they recommend which made it easy for us to choose from as far as DJ and photograph videographer and caterers. However, I feel there was lack of coordination among the photographers/ videographer and ethnic essence team. Ethnic essence provided a google doc where you can write things for the wedding and they share it with the vendors. But it's hard to write everything on this doc. There are moments that needed to be captured but I couldn't specifically write on the doc when they would happen. So I tried to arrange a sit down meeting with ethnic essence and the photographer a few times so they could know all the exact moments to take pics that were important to me. But the ethnic essence team assured me such a meeting was not necessary and everything will work out, as they know to be around me and my hubby to take pics or get them taken. I trusted them with the decision as they have been doing this a long time. However the day of the wedding and reception, those pics were not taken. And many times I tired to find someone from the team to help me get the photographers during the reception but no one was around to see if I or my hubby needed anything. I have now received the pics from the wedding and reception and I don't see many family member pics that were important to me. So there is a definite lack of coordination. However, ethnic essence does a wonderful job in creating a wedding of your dreams. They fulfill desires as have a elegance and grandeur. And will listen to what you want and all the decor. But they just need a bit more coordination between vendors. As wedding planners it is their area of expertise to make sure all the vendors are on the same page. This is the area I felt they lacked. And perhaps arrange meetings between the bridal or groom party and important vendors and them, so all the details are on the table and nothing is missed. With all this being said, I did have an awesome time and the best wedding I could ask for. It's are wedding that even guests will remember for years to come! Yes, I have missing pictures, which does make me upset. But the wonderful memories will last forever. And the awesome things you get to hear from family and friends make it even more special. Would recommend!

I was looking for a place to hold a show, when a friend had told me about the colony house. I had…read morelooked at the overheads on Google maps, and was blown away by the size. Apparently, it used to be a club, but has now changed into a very high-end and cool venue for weddings or whatever type of event you want to have. One of the first thing you notice when you turn in is the amount of ample parking. There are two secured Gates that open up to a huge parking lot, definitely not cramped for sure. And it has plenty of handicap spaces which is very nice. Walking into the open air pavilion, is a real treat. What a great space! This would be a great place for outside dining, or having a band play out there and dancing, if you didn't want to be cooped up inside. Definitely tons of possibilities at this venue! Inside, there is a bar on one end and a stage on the other with a huge open area. This would be perfect for a wedding or something that's held inside, if you did not want to brave the elements outside. Company on site, and can pretty much do anything you need. And that's not all, there is an upstairs area that is perfect for an overflow room, or a VIP lounge, or just a place for say a wedding party to take a break, or anything you really want to do with it. It even has a nice little outside courtyard that you can sit and get some fresh air. I could almost write a book about how awesome this place is but suffice to say if you live in Orange county and are looking for a premier venue to have your event at, I don't think you could do any better than the colony House. Give them a call today and see what's up!

Although…read moreHeather communicated very well, there were a couple of incidents that I found slightly unprofessional: 1. I signed a contract with one of her staff as my wedding planner. Unfortunately, from my understanding, there were unexpected changes in the company, so Heather had to take over. However, Heather responded that she would make an exception for me and not charge me an additional $1000 for this change. With all due respect, I should not be financially penalized for changes that an owner experiences; especially since I already signed the contract that I financially agreed to. 2. I encountered a lot of life changes that disrupted my ability to move forward with a wedding that my brothers were supposed to be in. For instance, I had a depressed, suicidal brother, I had another brother leave for Japan for the Marines, and I had an uncle pass away. All vendors except for Heather were so kind to fully refund my deposits due to the situation. Unfortunately, Heather responded that she was still a businesswoman and was financially hurting, so she was in no place to offer a full refund. I basically paid Heather almost $500 to establish a simple contract. I already had all the vendors in place and organized, so this deposit was for nothing. Heather should not be held responsible for unexpected circumstances, but this wedding meant a lot to me. As a business owner, you should be able to compromise with your clients based on their situation. I could have easily used that deposit to help my family for the funeral. I find this situation absurd because I never wanted a wedding planner to begin with. Our wedding list was only 32 guests, but my fiancé insisted that we hire a planner because he did not want me to stress out. I admire him for caring, but this wedding was going to be a private and intimate event with very little management. I blame myself for hiring a wedding planner when I did not need one. It is unfortunate that Heather was thinking like a businesswoman and not a human being with empathy. Nonetheless, please make sure to ask about the refund policy for emergencies such as death, health, etc. Two stars are for her communication, but I can only evaluate Heather based on my experience with her before the wedding date. Therefore, I am unable to provide feedback for her day service since my wedding never happened. Has it ever occurred to you, Heather, that you had not heard from me in a year because I was busy dealing with other important things like planning a funeral? My wedding was the last thing on my mind. Also, I was not complaining about the charge that never happened, I am complaining about your response to your changes. There was no need to comment on that you are more expensive and won't be charging me. We could have proceeded forward with whatever it was we were doing. You contacted ONE venue and that is because they had YOU sign a contract with them. FYI, my pre-engagement photos were scheduled with the photographer I hired for my wedding and I was still refunded the full amount. This vendor did not work for free either and still managed to prioritize customer service over money. You are a business owner and have the liberty to do as you please, but you must have needed the money more than I did, so I hope my contributions helped your business. Nonetheless, well done on your communication. If you have a family member with a life-threatening illness or you have a medical condition that may require potential hospitalization, please do not hire Heather as your wedding planner as she will not refund you the deposit because not make exceptions for your situation simply because she does not "work for free." Thank you.

I found Heather through Yelp and let me say: she really understood my vision and kept it real with me on what i could and couldn't afford lol. Not to mention, I literally and honestly don't know how I could have enjoyed my wedding without Heather. Her and her assistant, Courtney, handled E V E R Y T H I N G on the day of our wedding at the Estate on Second and then some. If there was any sort of problem, she had the solution. If we needed a drink, she was there with mine and my husband's signature cocktails. If I was losing track of time, she made sure to gently push me along. She truly handled everything so that me and my husband could just have FUN and for that I am truly grateful.

She brought this warm energy and excitement to wedding planning that drew us to her. I was planning a western church wedding that still preserved elements of traditional Vietnamese culture so I really wanted a wedding planner who could anticipate those needs and felt that Jenny was our perfect fit! Our venue already provided catering and bar services so we elected to do the day-of-wedding planning package. We were planning from NorCal which made it challenging in many ways. Jen had several check in's with us over the months and was extremely responsive via e-mail when we requested assistance, such as needed recommendations for late night snacks. She knew all the best vendors in the area so we felt reassured with our vendor line up with her green light. We were also grateful that she was flexible with our tight schedules when we drove down to SoCal. I was a cricut bride and I had A LOT of DIY decor and activity ideas. Jenny was always encouraging yet realistic. She knew or would figure out how to best execute my vision and always had a back up plan which made me feel so secure about trusting her with creating our vision for our big day. For example, I really wanted to create a warm, rustic look over the dance floor with a ceiling of rattan pendant lights with greenery, which the venue had never done before. She really delivered on working with our venue and thinking thoroughly of all the details for execution! It turned out SO AMAZING, just perfect. We received SO many compliments on the decor from our guests! We couldn't be more grateful to Jenny and her team for carefully making every detail look perfect. Jenny was very thoughtful about details of the wedding that we would have never personally considered and asked clarifying questions to intently understand what we wanted. So happy we booked Heather for WTW's month-of package. We were actually looking for a day-of…read morecoordinator but after speaking with Heather, we realized that month-of would be more beneficial especially with vendor logistic/timing (plus WTW prices were reasonable). Heather saw us 2x before the big day: final venue walk through and our rehearsal day. She was super organized during those 2 days and helped guide us with our venue and corral our entire wedding party during the rehearsal. Heather also provided us with a day-of timeline, even for the hours she was not physically at the venue. On the wedding day, she arrived with Annaleise (team member) around 3pm and immediately got to work with the decor set up before our 6pm ceremony. All we had to do was hand over our room key and off they went! To be honest, we were so busy that day that if we didn't have Heather helping us out, I'm not sure how we could've accomplished what we needed to do. No amount of uncles and aunties could've done what WTW did in the same amount of time hah. Plus we had a cocktail hour "flip" during our ceremony, so having WTW help us during that time was crucial. At the end of the night, all our items were returned to vendors or packed away in the boxes we brought them in and stored in our room. During the month of, WTW used Google's suite to keep everything organized and documented, which I found very helpful since its a program that I am familiar with (vs learning a new program). And Heather also provides some rentals if you want to add more to your decor, which was also VERY helpful when we needed more candles and stands. Heather is professional, calm, and assertive. She knows what needs to be done to help make your day run smoothly and is a team player with the vendors and venue. For reference, our wedding was in Riverside, a church ceremony, 8 people in the wedding party, 120 guests, ~10 vendors, plated meals, and a hotel venue reception. We had a couple funky additions in the night which made the reception feel nontraditional, but Heather handled them like it was normal. We haven't received official pictures yet, but when we do, I hope to update this review so any new potential clients can see her magic. Thanks again!!

Shraddha and Karan are the sweetest wife & husband team that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with. I booked Sprig and Ivy early into my wedding planning, and even though it was a long time away from our initial contact to the wedding day, Shraddha was so nice and sweet in checking up every so often to make sure I was doing ok. When it came down to the wire, WOW- They exceeded everything that you can ask for in having wedding coordinators for your wedding. They were on top of everything and anything! There were so many moments where I needed a breather, so they "snuck" me out to check out everything and get some air (because everyone was pulling me in different directions!). At one point, I really wanted to see my dessert bar, but couldn't get to it, so Karan took me through a "detour" for me to check it out on the other side before all the chaos ensued. They made sure everything was perfect from beginning to end, and I am SO happy for their amazing work ethics, wonderful personalities, and overall, just great people to have and surround yourself with. Thank you for everything!

Looking back at our wedding, we can't believe she voluntarily takes on this kind of pressure. My husband and I utilized Katie for her day of coordination and she and her team executed every detail that we wanted flawlessly. There were also other aspects of our wedding that we didn't have any opinions on and really trusted Katie's watchful eye to make it perfect for us. She delivered and more (e.g. we had a floating floral piece for our ceremony and we asked her to repurpose it for something for our reception--she set it up behind our sweetheart table and it was beautiful). As far as hiccups on the day of, there were far and few between. The major hiccup happened about 5 minutes before the ceremony when a urinal exploded on me- but hey, Katie had a cleaning kit to make sure I didn't smell for the rest of our big day and her team helped me keep my cool. Overall, we were expecting a little bit more drama but everything went by so smooth. Katie stepped in to make sure we ate our food despite being moved left and right and she kept us on schedule which to everyone's amazement, we were right on the dot with it. To summarize, what Katie did best was eliminate any worries we would have the day of so we could simply soak in all of the greatness of that day. Katie was super helpful being the first line of contact between us and the vendors. We didn't have to scramble at the last minute to confirm arrival times, to collect paperwork, etc. She continued to reassure us toward the final days of the wedding to sit back and relax. She was available throughout the process and kept us on track to meet certain milestones (e.g. finalizing guest count, confirming timeline, ensuring all inventory was ready to go, etc.). We cannot imagine having our wedding turn out the way it did without Katie. We highly recommend that you trust her to carry out your big day.

She created my whole time line, and made sure everything ran smoothly. I showed her my vision i was going for, and she ended up decorating every table for me and it was perfect. Katie and her whole team were a dream to work for. I would suggest using her for your wedding!
