I began to furnish my home with Ethan Allen furniture back in 2000. I had one designer who wasn't the warmest person but did exactly what I wanted. I worked in high bath and kitchen products for years and along with my mother designers it was on par. Segway ten years and I go back find the most amazing designer, manager in Ann arbor, Renee. I've done every room in my home with her assistance and it's lovely. I must say the people who are complaining about stains, not EAs problem! I have pets and children, grandchildren. It happens. Find a great cleaning specialist like Chet's cleaning in Maddison hgts and perhaps youll have a better outcome. Complaining about a carpet stain is like spilling a glass of wine on a suit or dress and expecting Saks or neimans to be responsible. read more

Steer clear of the Ethan Allen Nacella braided wool basket weave rug if you're about to spend 2K on it and expect this rug, which the company describes as a "treasured heirloom", to look great for longer than a year and a half. A large (expensive) version of the Nacella rug comes with dozens of spots where ends of braids are joined in order to continue with the weave (not very attractive but acceptable). After some time, though, just over a year, the adhesive used to hold these braid ends together turns dark brown, almost black and looks, in dozens of places, like dirt literally. I bought rug insurance from EA that sadly doesn't cover a manufacturer defect that came to light after the manufacturer's 1 year warranty expired. (It covers only accidents.) I'm very disappointed that Ethan Allen didn't even try to stand by its product, and that my 'heirloom' rug is so flawed. read more

I WAS a good customer to Ethan Allen and recently furnished my home with around 50K in furniture. I had many issues with their leather sofa's. The first one ordered was a recliner ( Conner) . Pricey and very bad manufacturing. After 8 months of multiple calls I finally had it exchanged. The replacement one I chose a non recliner style, after a 12 week lead time a grey standard (Bennet) leather. Within first year the leather started peeling on one arm. After multiple calls for 7 months they finally replaced one arm with new leather. When it came back it seemed like a child did the upholstery work, you could feel nail strip in the arm. Store Manager Tracey P. Would take 3-4 weeks for each return phone calls to handle situation. She was very rude and disrespectful for a good customer. I would stay away from dealing with Ethan Allen due to bad quality and especially this Novi location for bad customer service and adminstration. read more

Worst experience I have ever had I spent over $60,000 on my Purchase and bought all the warranty's. My rug got a stain on it and no one could get it out! They sent there specialists to try and he was unable and rude when he came in my home . They then decided to say they would not honor my claim. Keep in mind I have never made a claim. Do yourself a favor when spending this kind of money go to Restoration hardware They treat their people much better. Ordered two custom fabric chairs and pillows. Chairs came and were wrong. Order took 3 months and hopefully will be delivered soon. Pillows still a no show. When I called recently, the pillows weren't even started. Never again! read more

Beware of Ethan Allen. My wife and I used Ethan Allen to furnish a good portion of our home about a year ago. The resulting saga with their 'design studio staff' (sales people) and customer service organization have led me to write my first-ever yelp review. I certainly made a number of mistakes in my purchase, and want to prevent others from doing the same. I was under the impression that Ethan Allen put out high quality furniture and service given their showroom looks- I was wrong. 1. The sales process- Ethan Allen sets up their sales process to keep customers away from the furniture they are looking at for most of the sales experience. They often seek an out of the way table, and adorn it with fabric samples, layouts, inspiration pieces. In retrospect, this seems in part to keep the customer distracted from observing product quality. Be wary of sitting down to talk before you have a keen idea of what you are looking for. Do not let their sales team help you design a space before you look at all pieces alone. They will work to rush you through the showroom and not let you browse/investigate on your own. (my mistake should not be yours!) 2. The store layout- The sales people do not like customers wandering around alone (like most furniture stores. They use a combination of their sales staff and tightly organized furniture to distract from relatively poor product construction. Product quality- Most wood pieces are MDF with veneers/ stained epoxy finishes, even a $650+ copper-top side table has a particle board substrate , where the manufacturing screws can become dislodged (as happened to us- they allowed for a return on this one). The wood veneer surfaces are highly susceptible to scratches and delamination. We purchased a small chest of drawers, and out a child's rubber ball on the surface, which somehow converted the stain/veneer to a soft, sticky goo, and exposing the light wood underneath. Ethan Allen does have very skilled techs to repair furniture, but you may well need to pay for it (even under warranty). See below for custom service. 2. custom pieces- any piece of furniture that you put a cloth or leather on is custom. This includes basic sofas and leather chairs. Under no circumstances will Ethan Allen allow you to return a custom piece. This means that if it enters your house, and you sign anything the driver shows you- you will not be able to return the product, regardless of whether it is the same as you had been led to believe. I purchased a fabric sofa with clean lines, straight arms, and a boxy look. Thebsofa that arrived was overstuffed, with pursed wrinkles near the piping on the pillows, and arm piping that was not sewn to line up with the sofa arms. Despite numerous complaints to ethan Allen, at least three tech visits (including ripping apart then sofa in our home to attempt a repair), would they ever allow a return. We attempted to dispute through the credit card company, and due to the very fine print on Ethan Allen 's forms, were refused. Knowing we had to keep the sofa, we elected to not have any further tech repairs, in fear of an even worse outcome than we started. 3. Customer service/warranty- these are all routed to regional service centers, not your local showroom. After the point of sale, you will not see your showroom team again. Ethan Allen claims a 5-year warranty on their work. For the delaminated wood we experienced (as noted above), we were told this was due to "user error," and not product defect. There is not wording/caution on the products or literature about how items may impact the surface (a rubber ball in this instance). Once Ethan Allen has made a decision, you will find any changes extremely difficult. I have been quite disappointed by the overall experience with the company. Their sales tactics Can be manipulative, their product quality is lower than initially visible (and lower than expected/ the price point suggests), and they are inflexible with repairs and returns. Your money is better spent elsewhere. read more

I've always been a fan of Ethan Allen furniture. We have quite a bit of it, and their service is always nice. Not sure what the other reviewers are referring to, but all the furniture we have is quite old, so maybe their build quality has decreased. I will note that many of the décor accessories are ridiculously overpriced...a nice fake flower in a glass vase with fake water in it runs about $200...ridiculous. However, I'm highly dissatisfied with this location. It's set up nicely and the designers are very kind, but the receptionist is terrible. There is one woman (white, brownish hair, maybe 40 years of age) who has the WORST attitude of any high end store I've been. She acts as if you don't belong no matter who you are, is very condescending and difficult, and is highly unprofessional. I was looking for a coffee table one day, opened up a drawer nearby, she comes around and asks, "What do you think you're doing?" as if I was her grandchild who just touched her Swarovski collection. I was so miffed I just left. However, I returned another day to find a MUCH nicer receptionist. The manager needs to deal with her properly. read more

Just got off the phone for the 10th time with a variety of Ethan Allan personnel as I'm have a conflict with their Business practice of sell furniture that smells like the a toxic dump. Each person explained that the smell is just their stand quality and I should get over it as they do not have quality product the doesn't smell awful. Ethan Allen has lost all reference to customer service and are desperately trying to sell piece you might as well get from a garage sale. read more

The old bait and switch routine at Novi. We purchased new artwork but when we came home, it was obvious they gave us floor samples. The pictures had damaged bottom corners, they were covered in fingerprints and the hanging wire had a definite kink in it where it was hung on their wall. read more

Renee is wonderful, such a wonderful listener, she is one of the designers. I just wondered in and was assigned to her. My house is a dream come true, she worked with me on my floor plans, I just asked for a whole house plan knowing that I may or may not be able to afford it all at once, she completely understood this. My house is wonderful because of her, no heavy sales pressure, and she worked with the items I have and fit them into the design. Hopefully she will stay with Ethan Allen, I will continue to stop in for ideas and a potential buy! read more

if your looking for a quality product, do not purchase from ethan allen. we recently moved into a new house and wanted to furnish it with high quality furniture, we thought ethan allen offered this--we were very wrong. the wood materials are a little better than particle board and the couch is said to have "comfort wrinkles"--which is basically poor craftsmanship. Their customer service, or lack there of is a joke. save your money and go to ikea! read more
