My 89 year old father needed a new recliner and we went to Ethan Allen in Arlington. He sat in a number of recliners and choose a leather chair. He was delighted. Unfortunately, that is where the delight ended. They where timely with delivery, however, they damage the chair. The service center was going to "glue" a $3000 leg back together. We said no "please repair it!" @ months later, they came out to repair the chair. What we didn't know was that they would need to rip out the chair bottom and replace the leg and then sew it up. We let them. We were not pleased. on the final inspection, we noticed the leg wasn't the same shape, the curvature was different and they didn't bring all of the finishing parts. The service Technician was very nice, but now we had a damaged chair. Again, I spoke to the service center and they agreed to replace it, again. This took 2 more months. We they came to replace it, the color did not match. I sent the technician away. Ethan Allen sells nice furniture, whoever, the support was absolutely sub-par. I have asked for some recompense because we have a broke chair. We paid a significant amount for a new, pristine new chair for my father, Because it has been 5 months since the chair was purchased, we are done. Every interaction needed a call to them, they did not call or keep the customer informed. Ethan Allen charges a lot of money and did not a provide quality product. Randomly, I woke up one day and decided to transform my bedroom from a Boho chic boudoir with vibrant urban art and an eclectic vibe (think textiles, metal, wood) to a classic restful retreat. This transformation started with a new bed. I did my online research, phoned some friends for ideas, and then consulted with an Ethan Allen designer to help with my vision. My design consultant Ran was great! She sent me several style options that were made with various fabrics and textures. Before I committed, I visited the design center to ensure the color and feel were exactly what I wanted. Trying to distinguish between the "Hailey Oatmeal" which is like a linen to the softer "Palm Pearl" was almost impossible online. This service is free. Luckily, my custom bed had a quick ship option so instead of waiting 6-8 weeks, I only had to wait 2. The experienced Ethan Allen delivery specialists arrived on time and provided white-glove service. This is not a curbside operation. They were really neat and in and out in less than 20 minutes. My new headboard and rails are a lovely, 5-star hotel-worthy velvety vision. Aside from elegant details like diamond tufting, the quality and craftsmanship are exceptional. I was looking for some new pieces for an downsized apartment move, and Sidney was great about suggesting items that might work. She sketched out the floor plan and asked great questions. While I ended up going more toward Room + Board with their modern contemporary look, I would be thrilled to work with Sidney again. As for the store itself, it is laid out in semi-thematic rooms, and it's not huge, so it's easy to look around. I prefer locations that are distinctly set up for different rooms so it's easy to navigate, but in any case, that's just how Ethan Allen is laid out and it is not a deal killer. read more

After spending hundreds of dollars on advice from a highly-recommended interior designer, we still just weren't comfortable with the recommendations. So we went to Ethan Allen in Clarendon. Their designer Susan Dorsey was excellent. She spent time with us, visited our home, and gave us great advice without any pressure. We felt very comfortable working with her, and bought a number of excellent Ethan Allen pieces to complete our home. We love them all. In some cases where Ethan Allen's catalog didn't have the right item to fill a need, she was the first to admit it. I highly recommend giving Ethan Allen a chance before spinning your wheels with an independent by-the-hour designer. read more

This review is more about the customer service from this location than the furniture itself. I recently ordered $18,000 worth of furniture from the store. The first sofa and chair arrived and they are gorgeous! However, numerous hiccups, factory defects, and delays have made my overall experience really frustrating. I do love the quality of the furniture but at this point I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. The curtains I ordered are 6 inches too short. They were re-ordered weeks ago and I was charged the difference for the mis-measurement. The wallpaper I ordered was mismatched... None of the rolls matched the other and it all had to be torn down and sent back, but I had to pay the wallpaper installer anyway. Still waiting on the reorder. A second sofa was supposed to be delivered last week; it arrived broken and they didn't even bring it in the house. No one has called to acknowledge the issue and replace the order. So, six months later I am still waiting on curtains, wallpaper, and the rest of my order. Summary... Their furniture is gorgeous but the service just doesn't match the price. read more

I highly recommend designer Julie Sink both for her excellent design eye, warm hospitality, and dedicated customer service. She helped me pick out a beautiful custom leather headboard and made the shopping design experience fun and not overwhelming. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain my delivery was nearly 8 weeks delayed which I was not thrilled with, but Julie constantly was checking the order and keeping me in the loop. We ordered a bed from Ethan Allen. This company might make good products, but they cannot deliver it. So the quality is wasted. The first delivery attempt -- there were stains on the fabric bed frame. Spent a week trying to get in touch with someone to help resolve the issue. Finally got them to clean the bed and attempt deliver again. This time, parts of the delivery were missing. It will probably take a long time to find someone to help resolve the issue. This review pertains to their customer service only - the quality of pieces I purchased is fantastic and look beautiful. The customer service at this Ethan Allen location leaves much to be desired. I received the wrong size bed (after waiting 8+ weeks). The designer acknowledged she mistakenly ordered the wrong size and tried to charge me the difference between the two sizes. She finally agreed to price match for what I was initially quoted. I asked if the new bed could be expedited and was told "no" and it would be another 8 weeks. My issue with Ethan Allen is the lack of PROACTIVE communication from my designer and Ethan Allen management regarding my purchase. After eight weeks, I had to reach out to the designer for updates. I was given multiple dates of when my bed would be delivered to their warehouse and never received a follow-up explaining why things were delayed. I called the store and asked to speak with a manager but was referred back to my designer. It wasn't until I reached out to Ethan Allen corporate that things started moving. I understand that mistakes happen, and it was an honest mistake that my designer initially ordered the wrong size bed. I take issue with the fact that no one in a management position reached out to me to apologize for the error, or offer any explanation for the countless delays in delivering the correct piece. In total, it took 6 months to receive the correct bed. If I ever purchase from Ethan Allen again, it for sure will not be from this location. read more

Those people who are giving Ethan Allen low ratings, obviously, aren't working with Tatiana in Rockville. She came out to my house, twice, in the middle of COVID and re-did my entire sun room. She interviewed me and figured out my taste. I telework from this room - and, it's attached to my kitchen. It's where guests hang out. I could not be happier with it. She made it so homey and relaxing. The furniture is a tad on the conservative side but it's beautiful and goes well with the rest of the decor. read more

I ordered a dresser in early September for my daughter. This company has always had a good reputation. The only reason I ordered the item was because I was specifically told the item was in stock and available for prompt delivery. Three monthes later, multiple phone calls , many excuses and probably a dozen lies there has still not been a delivery. If a company cannot deliver , then they should not over promise. For what you pay at this place, you expect accomodating customer service. I purchased a pull out loveseat from this location less than three years ago and recently inquired about a slipcover. After waiting on hold for quite some time and being shifted from one person to another, I was rushed off the phone and told that the loveseat model is no longer being produced so I was not able to get a slipcover. A custom furniture place? Really? How could a slipcover not be made? After spending nearly $3,000 on this thing I would expect much more. I will never shop Ethan Allen again. read more

I had a great in-store experience with the sales person. She was helpful, knowledgable and friendly. They did not have the item I wanted on the floor (I found it on the web and went to the store hoping to see it), so when it finally arrives, I really hope I'm not disappointed. Ethan Allen as with most furniture stores does not carry inventory here but in a warehouse in PA. They deliver to your area only every couple of weeks, which as you might imagine, adds a couple of weeks to your order. That is frustrating. read more

I could not be happier with my recent experiences, both the customer services and the pieces I purchased. The design services really make it all worth while. Annie in particular was AMAZING! I was in the middle of a living room and dining room remodel and had already purchased several pieces. I made it clear that I wouldn't be getting everything from Ethan Allen. Not to worry her designs and advice were spot on. She got my "vision" almost immediately and took feedback and turned it into refined designs. She gave advice on Ethan Allen pieces and those I purchased elsewhere and she was really honest when for one problem spot, they had nothing was going to work with my vision. I bought my living room furniture and dining chairs at Ethan Allen during the past year. The furniture is beautiful and awesome quality. I expect to last, and be beautiful, my whole lifetime. The experience is great too. A designer (Antoinette) came out to my house twice and spent over an hour each time. I have zero artistic design ability, but she designed a gorgeous living room that nailed my taste -- furniture, fabrics, curtains, and bookcases. She even told me how to accessorize the room using inexpensive sources. I haven't worked with the other designers there, but I highly recommend Antoinette. Customer service is also great. One of my chairs was missing one screw out of four that held the seat cushion on. I asked them to mail me the screw, planning to screw it on myself. But they sent a tech to my house, free, and he installed the screw and also checked and tightened the other five chairs. Wow! I live in an old modest townhouse on Columbia Pike, not a brand-new penthouse in Clarendon, and I gave them a pretty small budget to work with. But I was treated as just a valuable customer as any other. And, to clinch the deal, Ethan Allen's prices are no higher than Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn, and I don't think the latter two will come to your house and create a design for you for free. So definitely check them out. read more

It's also refreshing how they have their store set up like an interior design studio, with an area to peruse fabric and wood samples. This particular showroom is just beautiful. STRENGTHS: We LOVE the chairs we ordered and can't wait for them to be delivered. Very sleek, modern look. Great fabric options and colors to fit your style. CHALLENGES: On our first visit, we were ignored by two design consultants who tended to help customers who were a bit older than we. (We're in our 30s.) We waited patiently until everyone had been served (we were there on a Sunday when the store opened) and finally received assistance from the manager. We had already decided on our purchase and just needed to select fabric. The associate was very busy so we scheduled an appointment to come back the following week - March 26, 2011. When we arrived at the time she suggested, she was with another couple and told us she would be right with us. As you can imagine, we mostly worked with a lovely assistant because Susan was definitely busy with a more expensive order. She was very nice when she was helping us, but we were disappointed with the lack of service - especially since we had scheduled per her calendar. We were told we would have a fabric swatch the following week, and after three calls to the store, it just arrived yesterday - June 9, 2011! The chairs that were to arrive the second week of May are still not here today. OVERALL: My family has had wonderful experiences with other Ethan Allen locations, so we were overall disappointed that we, too, couldn't speak highly of the customer service. The two stars are for the product. The other 3 stars would have been earned if our design consultant gave us the time she provided to other clients, and if we didn't have to call the store on a weekly basis to check-up on our order. read more

We ordered a retreat sofa, leather chair and two down pillows a little over two years ago. The leather chair came with a spot on it, we had waited so long we didn't send it back, it isn't a huge spot, but definitely visible. At first we really liked our sofa, it is comfortable and was a good size; however, the fabric frayed very quickly, event hough we were told it was very durable fabric, the cushions have collapsed. I had to recover the down pillows as they were not covered with down ticking to keep the down feathers from poking through the pillow. I contacted national customer service, was routed to the local store where the manager was dismissive and unhelpful, except for agreeing we do need new inserts. We have tried calling the customer service person, they finally contacted us back, they are willing to give us new back inserts that is it. I am extremely disappointed in the quality and customer service of Ethan Allen, it's nothing like the company I grew up with. I've been a customer of Ethan Allen for over 20 years. Nearly my entire home is furnished with EA. In the past, I have always relied on the company's exceptional customer service and quality. I had custom drapes installed this week, and the workmanship and execution are a complete disaster and disappointment. The response from the store has been equally disappointing. I had three window treatments made for the living room, dining room, and foyer. All three were trimmed in tassels. The living room treatment was worked out with the help of EA's designer and the drapery workroom. EA's designer did a mock up and then we talked it out. I expressly said I wanted very full drapes and not small panels or swags over the top. I described the look I wanted as a "ballroom gown skirt." The mock up is not to scale and looked full as compared to the size of the window in the sketch. After the meeting, the draper indicated that he understood what I wanted. He made his own sketch as well. What I got was a large swag over two small side panels. The window is 9 feet tall--the drapes are not in proportion to the window. As for the tassel trim on all of the drapes, it has been frayed and crunched. The tassels look like a cat chewed on them. I've complained to the store, and the designer came out today. She likes the living room drape and thinks it looks like her drawing--notwithstanding that I hate it, her picture is not to scale, and the drapes are in my house--not hers, and they are not what we discussed. She has spoken to her manager and VP. The blanket response is that the drapes look like the picture, so they won't refund my money. Not--let's see what we can do to make them better--not let's see where things went wrong in the process--nothing. Just--we are done. As for the tassels, they are going to leave it to the workroom to figure out how to fix the tassels. They can't be fixed. The entire banding would need to be removed and replaced. This process would damage the fabric, particularly on the dining room drape which is silk. I am flummoxed by the lack of care and response. The drapes alone were $11,000. This doesn't include the furniture I also purchased. I would simply not recommend this store or their custom drapery services. They do not stand behind their work. read more

Ethan Allen is so inconsistent. Design staff members have completely different approaches to working with folks they meet in their store (as mentioned in another review) and knowledge of their items and shipping process. I've been to the Clarendon store many times. It is very well designed store. Their stuff is overpriced for the quality; they are somewhere between Crate and Baker. And they are not flexible in fixing items that are broken on delivery. I purchased a $500 lamp. It arrived, well packaged. But when I took it out, the lamp harp was warped -- clearly a manufacturing problem from the very mold it came from in china. Why was this shipped if there was a strong quality control process in place? This is a $2 part. And when I notify the Ethan Allen rep, the response is to pack it up and for me to return it to the local center by car. So 2 hours of my time, plus gas, plus waiting for the broken piece to be received/reviewed, then waiting for new item reshipped is worth $2 to them? No flexibility. No respect for the customer. At a superficial level, the customer service person was nice and apologetic with the typical manipulative speak of "we can do that for you" kind of response, as if this is a favor for me! My last complaint is that it took me 30 minutes to order a different lamp in the store (felt like staff members are learning as they are doing--5 rounds of questions and explanations and retyping adn reprinting), this compared to 2 minutes to order on line, with a fast turnaround. Sad. Big message, if you really want an Ethan Allen item, just know what you are getting into. It's a crap shoot. read more
