The tattoo artists at this shop are outstanding as artists and professionals. They are good; their work is hight quality; and they are busy. You're probably not going to get a walk in tattoo done here, but walk in to talk to or consult with an artist ahead of time to be sure. The shop itself is in a good location with a decent amount of parking, and inside it is inspiring. There are lots of plants and beautiful art. It is body-positive and woman-positive with more than one woman tattoo artist in residence. The tattoo work areas are separated with short walls and actual doors so privacy is controlled. It also allows each artist to have her own space full of the energy she wants. This part of the shop's design really adds to the experience of being worked on there. It allows the creative energy to bubble around without feeling intrusive or exposed while being worked on. It can also shift during a session - door open or closed. I have two fairly large, artist-original pieces done by Autum McCallister (Lethal Lady). Her work is magical! You can find it on Instagram or Facebook, or stop in to see her. She also does commission pieces (your design). Autum's eye for color, shape, and layout makes for truly gorgeous body art. When I have requested (small) changes to a design, she is thoughtful and takes her time to work through what will work well with the piece and fits with what I like. She'll also make some changes as she works and sees the piece come to life on your body. To top it off, she has a great sense of humor, and we have fun conversations with a lot of laughter. Though I haven't worked with any other artists at this shop, I have listened to them work and seen some of it. I will never go anywhere else to get work done again. I made an appointment with Caryl Cunningham in September and she was booked through December. I did a lot of research on artists in the area and I was totally impressed by her work, the fact that she's a woman in a predominantly male profession, and that she seemed really kind and down to earth which, from what I've found, is rare in the tattoo world. I just got the tattoo almost two weeks ago now and I couldn't be happier with it. Caryl was very professional, her shop is extremely clean and I felt really comfortable there. She was really fun to chat with during my 5.5 hour sitting and she did impeccable work. She took the two crappy pictures that I printed off the internet and incorporated them together into a gorgeous piece of art. Two different people recommended me to Susannah Griggs for a floral piece I wanted to have done. It took me two years to get on her calendar and six months before my booked sessions started, but let me tell you- SHE IS WORTH IT. She listened to my vision, gave me great feedback about where to put things and what colors to use. Watching the tattoo come alive over the last six months has been amazing. The fine detail work and overall beauty of it are more than I ever imagined. She is professional and easy to work with- aware of times when the pain was a bit much (those damn lilacs). Showing up to see her has been the highlight of my months because she knows her stuff. Not just how to tattoo, but placement based on your body shape the size of the flowers and all of the pieces that come together for a larger floral piece. My entire experience with Susannah was phenomenal. She is booked for 6+ months out for a reason- she's an amazing artist. We corresponded through email (I live 5 hours from Detroit) and she didn't send any sketches because she was going to tattoo directly from the picture I sent. I had to put down a deposit to hold my spot which I think is completely fair. The week of my tattoo, I got a reminder email which I always appreciate. The shop was easy to find, with ample parking. Another artist told me where Susannah's booth was. She was promptly on time. We laid out the tattoo and worked out placement. Then we got to tattooin'. Susannah took eye breaks every once in awhile (5mns) which I didn't mind at all. Our conversation was lovely and I appreciated her checking in to see how I was doing with the process. Four hours later, I had the most incredible piece of art on my arm! I was thrilled with the entire process and would drive 5 hours in a heartbeat for another tattoo from her. I absolutely cannot recommend her enough. I was impressed with the shop! The machines are so incredibly QUIET! They have their own line of ink, are impeccably clean and have the latest technology. The artists here book their own schedules- there isn't a receptionist or office manager. Keep that in mind! When you email/call/come in, the artist themselves fulfill that role. This place is really nice. It's a newer location and each room is kept pretty clean. I've gotten two tattoos and one piercing here over the course of three years. The artists are typical like any shop... walk in and they ignore you and judge you. But after they get over themselves, they do pretty good work. I recommend them. If you use a credit card here, they charge you $5, which is pretty crappy in my opinion. But you have to take your bads with your goods, you know? read more

This is my favorite tattoo shop of all the places I've been. It's clean, the artists have good reputations and great portolios to back them up. There are two things I think people scoping Yelp should find on Yelp regarding tattoo shops. Cleanliness and reputation. The rest of the research you have to do on your own. Go to the shop and ask to see portfolios or see if you can peek in on somebody else getting tattooed. Look with your special eyes and see if you like what you're seeing. Gloves, ointment, ink cups, proper plastic shields on all bottles and ridged items, clean environment, solid work being done. You can't necessarily find that on Yelp. Ask the artist why they use the soap or ointment they use. Ask what their aftercare instructions are. Talk out a price you're both comfortable with. There's my advice. read more

I went to see Susannah based on a recommendation from another artist. Initially when going to speak with her I was shocked to find that she was booked until March 2019! However, it must have been my lucky day because she had a cancelation and was able to get me in a week later. She did a FANTASTIC job! This was my first tattoo so I was extremely nervous. Suzannah was very patient, understanding, and let me take breaks whenever I needed. She even sought out some candy and a protein shake for me to help me regulate my system. Susannah is an absolute master magician with a tattoo gun. I have been an ongoing client of hers for almost 3 years and I honestly can't imagine getting tattooed by anyone else. First: She is an amazing conversationalist. She makes you feel so relaxed and at home which is important for someone like me who does not have a high pain tolerance. Second: She is incredibly affordable for the work she puts out. Like insanely so. She creates masterpieces and honestly she could ask so much more for her work. Third: She is a responsible artist. Meaning she won't do the work just for the money. She will only do projects she is confident she will be the best at and will ensure the client will get the best piece.
