Located in the heart of downtown Ferndale at 9/Woodward, it wasn't difficult to find the place, even though it's on the 3rd floor of an office building. When you walk in, the atmosphere is soothing and smells amazing. And Monique is warm and welcoming - it was my first time meeting her, yet she felt like an old friend. Her work is beautiful, unbelievably affordable, and is probably the nicest henna I've ever had done. She only uses all natural ingredients as well. After attending her natural skin care virtual class, I knew I wanted to visit the physical studio for henna once it reopened to the public. From booking my session online and all of the follow-up information, communication was plentiful and helpful. The actual session was above and beyond my expectations. The studio is charming and was the perfect escape from a typical day in my quarantined, furloughed, pandemic life. Monique spent a few minutes discussing what kind of design I wanted, and did an incredible job with my henna on both hands. The conversation was comfortable and comforting, as I have been very isolated for the last several months. The human contact, even with masks (which I appreciate as a precaution), felt so good. Instructions for after care are clearly detailed on the website, but she was happy to walk me through the process as well. I will definitely be returning for future sessions. I was a little apprehensive when I entered the Ferndale Center Building, but after I got my bearings, got myself to the third floor, and got myself through Monique's door, I had an amazing experience. I was there for a facial. Alchemy's "office" is more like a cute, comfortable apartment or small boutique; the main room has a table where you sit and chat at the beginning and end of your session, and is lined by the hand-mixed products Monique creates and sells. To the side is the private treatment room, where you are able to remove clothing and relax on a massage table for thorough relaxation. The facial includes several gentle cleansing, exfoliating, and masque procedures (no steaming/extractions) of the face and decollete, as well as a foot, hand, and shoulder massage. Everything Monique uses is her own recipe, mixed up straight out of the impressive cabinet of ingredients right in the treatment room. During the treatment, she locks the office door to ensure privacy. My skin feels amazing today, and is noticeably brighter. I have had facials done by Monique several times. She is a wizard with scents and making you feel spoiled. Also, I used to have this little wrinkle between my eyebrows but she massages it out.
