The ambiance is warm and cozy, with low lighting and velvet chairs with low tables flanking the bar. It feels high end. I was very interested in the cocktail menu but ended up getting hot tea, which was loose leaf and came with its own pot and Bonnie Maman honey. It was the perfect way to end a long day. The bar area is pretty bustling, even on weeknights. The hotel attracts a lot of business travelers, and the bar seems to be a favorite for informal meetings. The food at Estuary was definitely a high class experience. The food is fresh and nicely displayed, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is classy and luxurious. For dinner we tried the Virginia T-bone for two with au jus, golden potatoes, and grilled asparagus, which was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rate, the potatoes were crispy and lightly seasoned, along with the asparagus. We even tried two different desserts to complete our meal. We had the apricot cake, which was an experience of tart and sweet. Then we tried the black sesame creme brûlée with strawberries which were a nice addition to finish our meals. This restaurant has a great view of City Center and is very vibrant and luxurious. There is a full bar and is located on the 3rd floor of the Conrad Hotel. There are some restaurants that seem nice but more expensive than what they're worth so you wait for an opportunity where work will pay for it. Well, I was in town and armed with my per diem, so I decided to drop by for a simple caesar salad (to go). The salad itself already seemed a little pricey but I convinced myself it would be a large, dinner portion. I also added a protein (salmon) because, after all, work was paying and those b*tch*s owe me massively. Tell me why the whole thing came out to $60 (which included a 20% service fee for... taking my order?). This was, in fact, $10 above my daily limit for dinner. I visited for a private brunch for a special occasion and the experience was great from start to finish. The private room had its own bar tender and access to the beautiful balcony. The mimosas and bubbles were flowing! The first course of the meal was a yogurt parfait with vanilla Greek yogurt, berries and granola. So yummy and super sweet. In a hotel of this caliber, I expected to get country club like experience, it wasn't. They weren't willing to make any changes to dish to accommodate dietary preference - for example as a vegetarian I asked if they would be willing to accommodate. The waiter said, what is on the paper menu is what they will offer. I asked him, if could check with chef if they have beyond burger, he simply refused to even go and ask. That was quite rude. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich ($24). If you want to add avocado to the sandwich, is costs $7 extra! That seemed outrageous to me, and I did not order the avocado for that reason. The crispy breakfast potatoes were awesome. I think the food is good but not worth the high ticket prices. I would value the breakfast sandwich and potatoes at $16-18 max vs $24, but I think you are mainly paying for the high class dining experience. Once it was time to eat, we were seated at a traditional table, which was fine with me, because the cool looking dining options also comes with doing a lot of bending down.. I'm good on that..LOL! Without knowing, Estuary was participating in Restaurant Week, which hasn't been my thing for a few years now. Normally, they just don't offer what I want. Surprisingly enough, they had pretty decent options but the catch is, if one person ordered from the restaurant week menu, you both have to order from it. I went with the NY Strip and she picked the Rockfish. Both were very very good. For appetizers, we both got the crab cake, which were delicious! Our individual sized desserts were also good. Service was great and if the regular menu had a few more options, I would put Estuary in my regular dining rotation, so may I suggest adding lamb chops and charbroiled oysters.. hey, just a suggestion..LOL Valet is extremely reasonable $14, which CANNOT be beat, especially at a DC 5 Star Hotel. I had a great meal at Estuary. I was staying in the Conrad and decided to try their restaurant. Given that the Conrad is a 5 star hotel, Estuary was full of beautiful art and high quality decor. My review of food and drink is as follows: -Conrad Martini (4.5/5; im not the biggest Martini person but this was quite nice - very good. A nice twist on a martini. I really enjoyed the dried raspberry along the glass and little bits of olive oil on top -rappahannock oyster trio (4/5) - a nice taste of various oyster preparations. Honestly, the typical, simple oyster was my favorite. Very fresh. The charbroiled oysters were tasty but had a bit too much buffalo sauce for my taste. The breadcrumbs were delicious though! -mid Atlantic tile fish (4.5/5)- really delicious. The grits were well cooked and seasoned and the peas were a nice touch of freshness and texture. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Nice and moist and flaky and I loved the tomato medley (though I wish there was more in the dish) and the spring radish/other herb was pretty bitter so I wish there was a bit less of it or it was more finely cut. A little bit of pickled veggie could have been a nice tough. It was a really great dish overall though and I would highly recommend. The restaurant is located on the third floor of the hotel and is very big and spacious. There is a outside dining area open in late spring, summer and fall and offers great views of the city. A generic nice hotel restaurant. My wife and I went here for a weeknight dinner during restaurant week. We got three courses for $65 plus tax and tip, very affordable for a nice DC restaurant. We were seated immediately at our reservation time and received good service other than an initial snafu when inquiring whether a dish was vegetarian. The restaurant ambiance was sterile-although everything looked nice, it did not have any feeling or personality. Estuary felt like it could have been anywhere. My wife and I shared the salads and two of the mains. Estuary presented all of the dishes extremely well; a couple of the dishes looked borderline Michelin-star caliber. The dishes were hit and miss. The tomatoes on the farm heirloom salad were at seasonal height deliciousness and the whipped goat cheese puree added delicious creaminess and complemented the tomatoes perfectly. However, Estuary put a ton of salt on the tomatoes, none of which was necessary. The Eastern Shore Beet and Citrus salad was fine, with good crunch from the peanuts and sweetness from the beets. I was curious about the choice to serve a beet salad in August given so many other vegetables and fruits in-season and that beet salads with citrus are usually winter salads. The Mid-Atlantic Tile Fish has perfectly crispy skin and was juicy; however, the grits and vegetables needed more flavor. The Ovoka Farms Wagyu Osso Bucco was extremely disappointing. The smoked cheddar grit balls were outstanding; rich and creamy, they were some of the best grits I've ever had and a great play on polenta. However, the beef was stringy, tough, and under-seasoned, with almost no marrow. Either the beef was not wagyu, or it was the most poorly cooked wagyu I have tasted. The dessert was a peaches and cream tart and it was overly sweet. Despite the natural sweetness of the peaches, Estuary added a sweet cream, some colored sugary chunks, and white chocolate. The white chocolate was the only good part about the dish and complemented the peaches nicely-otherwise this was a big disappointment. I would recommend other restaurants in downtown DC if you are looking for a nice evening out. read more

The Mid Atlantic Tile Fish is strangely not labeled as silver (Blueline Tilefish), would've been even better to get golden and a larger piece. The fish skin was overly salted but otherwise balanced dish. Skip the softshell crab, quite a letdown. Not crispy enough and just a single crab. The grilled green onions were also burned. The pepper sauce should be indicated as spicy and was much like Tabasco sauce. The service was polite but needed more staff. Came here out of convenience during my stay at the Conrad, but it turns out it's delicious! I had three breakfasts and one dinner here and all the food was excellent. Favorites for breakfast were the market fruit plate (pink pineapple and fresh figs!) and crab cake bennie. The crab on the bennie was such a standout, so much crab, not much cake at all. I was able to put aside my west coast preference for Dungeness and thoroughly enjoy it. I had dinner at the bar, a fried extravaganza of softshell crab and fries. So perfectly made, flavorful sauces, not as greasy as I expected based on the items I got., and lovely drinks. The service at the bar was amazing! Love the bartenders here and would probably choose to sit at the bar even if I came with someone else next time. The atrium outside Estuary is quite stunning - a beautiful, large open space with a pretty incredible ceiling. Even if you don't eat at the restaurant, it's worth checking out the atrium. Since we showed up last minute (around 8:30pm) without a reservation, we were seated at the bar in the lounge, which was quite posh and swanky. This might be one of the nicest lounges we've ever been to. The service was absolutely incredible. Usually, one of the downsides of sitting at the bar is that the bartenders are constantly busy making drinks and filling drink orders, but not here - the service was exceptional: attentive, helpful, and beyond friendly. We had a couple of starters. The bluefin tuna was fresh, perfectly seasoned, with the right accompaniments to really enhance its flavor. This was beautifully executed, though a bit expensive at $27 for 4 slices about the size you'd get on a piece of nigiri. The endive and radicchio salad was probably one of the best salads I've ever had. Crunchy, fresh, and slightly cool endive and radicchio leaves, perfectly dressed with an umami-rich anchovy dressing. The croutons were lightly crunchy and so buttery and rich. For the mains, we had the rockfish and the scallops. The rockfish was wonderfully seared with a nice crisp bottom. It was served atop some baby corn, snap peas, and roasted tomatoes, with a corn broth poured table side. It was delicious and fresh. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a beautiful brown crust and still medium rare, but warm on the inside. They were sweet and succulent - absolutely delicious! Overall, the food was really great. It's a bit on the pricey side, though I suppose it has become more expensive to eat out in general. This is a fun place to enjoy a bit and people watch, though just be aware that it's quite posh - everyone was in a suit, though I'm sure that's not mandated by dress code. read more

My experience here is shaped by the fact that I'm a hotel guest. If you're not a guest, I can't speak to your experience. The first night, I didn't have a full meal. I showed up with my laptop and asked if there was a place I could work and have some cocktails. I was assigned a huge, beautiful marble (ish) table with couches and chairs around it. The hostess told me that this whole space was MINE. If anyone tried to sit with me, let them know, and they would be ejected quickly (no one tried, by the way). My server, Lauren, was cool, collected, attentive, but not clingy. She made sure I had whatever I needed. At first, it was all drinks . . . this spot has multiple types of cocktails . . . Spring Your Way (mezcal, aperol, passionfruit, agave, lime, tajin), lady bird park (tequila, lime, pink grapefruit, salt), Caribbean breeze (Bacardi cuatro, amaro Montenegro, pineapple, orange bitters) . . . you get the idea . . . they have a decent cocktail list, a good wine list. They were all very good . . . nothing I wouldn't turn away on a second try. I had a couple of snacks too . . . the pork belly is delectable and savory. The Bay Fries are salty, seasoned, hot, crispy, and delightful. The second night I came back for just a drink to take back to my room. Cory, a bartender, served me that time. Again, cool, calm, collected, though maybe a little more personable than my server before. If I hadn't been in a hurry, I would have probably sat at his bar all night. Felt very at home with him. Estuary has a brekkie menu, brunch, and all day/late night menu, and a dinner menu. In addition to what I mentioned, dinner also includes salads, scallops, tuna, a NY strip, risotto, and more (including multiple sides). Being in DC, I would have never picked the hotel restaurant if it wasn't free, but I would have absolutely paid for this. Everything was standard, but elevated in some manner. For example, the pancakes had a mascarpone whipped cream, the fruit bowl had pink pineapple (I was shocked when I thought it was grapefruit), the chicken sausage was maple. I love a hotel restaurant and found this restaurant to be beautiful--although quite difficult to find within the Conrad Hotel. Service was very prompt and attentive, and the views are great. Sadly, I was very disappointed by the food. For $55 plus tax and tip, the meal was not nearly worth the price. The tuna appetizer was bland, and the thick-cut tuna did not seem to be high quality. The risotto portion was tiny, and the zucchini blossoms were quite limp. The cake had a nice bite but lacked richness and flavor. The rockfish was poorly cooked as well. For the amount of money we spent, we left hungry. I did like the pig ear appetizer! However, the bowl was very oily and reduced the crunch of the pig ears. The crispy pig ears in some kind of mint tamarind marinade with lettuce, onion, lime, and more mint to make a sort of lettuce wrap?? This would be a last meal for me. The scallops were then a solid choice. Maybe a little under seasoned but great sear. The coconut curry that it came with was interesting but not my favorite. Finally the smash burger is a misnomer. This is just a solidly juicy burger, great pickled, and great cheese. The fries were also excellent for hotel fries but I could do without the old bay seasoning. Overall, I'll be back. It's Been a while and it's time for me to update my review. For someone who has lived in DC for decades, I've venture out to many brunch spots in DC, but always have venture back to estuary. Nothing compares! If you go on a Sunday ask for Mark, as your server you will not regret it. Sadly, he only does brunch on this day. I've been asking for Mark to add Saturday to the list because his service is top notch. Provides exceptional attention to detail. You will feel like a star. Everything on the breakfast and brunch menu is great. My go to is the main breakfast with crispy potatoes, scramble eggs, bacon with a croissant. The crossitants are freshly made and crispy. It's the closest, you will get to an authentic one similar to Paris. I travel to Europe 3x's a year, so I feel like an expert when it comes to croissants and bread (lol). You can't go wrong!
