We just had lunch at Estrella's today ... probably for the "DOZENTH" time! We ALWAYS order the "carnitas plate". There are so many Mexican Restaurants in Fallbrook from which to choose ... but we feel this is THE VERY BEST of them ALL! On a 1-10 in food, service & cleanliness ... this place rates a 15! I frequent this restaurant probably once a week. I usually dine in, but after a long day at work I call in a to go order as I am driving home. The to go service is always flawless. I did have this one girl tell me that they charge for salsa to go, but I think she was just new and confused as I have never had to pay for salsa before or since that incident. As many of the other reviewers stated, the establishment is small - so don't expect to get seated quickly on a Friday or Saturday night. When they open their second place on the south side of mission, they will have tons more room to accommodate the large following that they have. Now onto the food!! The food is amazing. Easily the best Mexican place in Fallbrook. I have had just about everything on the menu and love it all. The salsa is on point! If you like spicy - ask for their hotter sauce. It's good too. The chips are great as well. They have a nice selection of beers on tap for it being a Mexican joint. They have recently put up a beer board so you can check out their selections on there. I've never had a bad margarita from here. In fact, one of the brothers even made a special one on my request to "surprise me" and we named it the "Sunset Maragarita" (both strawberry and mango layered in the glass with that tangy red sauce and tajin on the rim). The service may be average because they have to turn tables to quickly, which I understand and have never had a problem with. Each interaction is always friendly. I love this place and recommend it. Stop by for lunch or dinner. But try a week day as they do get swamped on the weekends. read more

If you're in the mood for some real authentic Mexican food!! This is it! Alot of places consider themselves "authentic" but fail miserably. Right of the bat with the chips and salsa you can tell the Estrella family doesn't mess around when it comes to cooking! I've never been disappointed with anything I've ever ordered here. One of my favorite plates that I highly recommend is the camarones costa azul. (Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon!!) try it out. In the mood for drinks? My favorite restaurant for mexican food in Fallbrook. The chips & salsa are good, drinks are generous and it's not overpriced. I always get a grilled chicken burrito wet with chipotle... So yummy! The albondigas is very, very good! A little crowded and noisy but the food makes up for it. read more

Always OUTSTANDING! Our only complaint is the seating and parking, why did they lease such a small space...there are lots of other vacant Fallbrook stores, the one next to the Hallmark/Blockbuster would've been so much better for them...oh well, maybe they are working on it, as its a shame, they will never grow being in this small spot. read more

Very small and very crowded. SO noisy. Two TV's going at the bar with volume turned all the way up. Had to yell to talk over the noise. Food quality was poor. Hard shell tacos were bad. Could barely bite through the shell. Refried beans tasted burnt. Restaurant not clean. Food on floor. Restrooms dirty and located only inches from the tables. Been here several times and the newer larger one ( off of Mission and the 76-a little before you get into town ) owned by the same people with the same name. Wish the chips were always fresh and warm( every now and then they are cold and greasy ). Not into the Flour ones. Usually pretty good overall (could use better quality control) with pleasant servers . Service is mostly prompt-even when busy ( which seems to be most of the time). I know authentic Mex, this is slightly Americanized, but in Fallbrook-the closest you'll get. Never tried the burger/ figure if I want one, then I'm in the wrong place....never tried the chamoy marg ,but plan on it! The best Food I've gotten there was the carnitas plate- loads of chunks of tender rather fat/free pork and not much of the dark meat either The chicken enchiladas with green sauce is another good bet . Beans are good ( hard to wreck those), but the rice is pretty gringo Style and not much flavor. Could use onion, garlic, cumin and cilantro. Big portions, reasonable prices. This place is awesome. I like that they have corn and flour tortilla chips and their salsa is delish! The staff is very friendly. I like sitting at the bar. The bartenders are so nice and always chat with you. They have a full bar and do not skimp on the tequila in their margaritas. I have eaten here a ton of times and have eaten at least 10 different items on the menu. My favorites are the Shrimp Cancun and the Camerones al Mojo de Ajo. The only thing that I would not recommend is the hard shelled tacos. It looks and tastes like they buy pre-baked shells. Other than that I cannot say anything bad about this place. read more

Oily chips, watery salsa, bland rice, refried beans were still whole and tasted funny, and the mole sauce was bad. I tried Estrella's because everyone on FoF talks it up but either they are being nice and supporting local restaurants or they have never had authentic Mexican food. According to their website they open at 10 am on Friday. So at 10 am i call to place a take out order. The guy who answers the phone says oh its 10 and the girl isn't here yet can you call back in 5 minutes. I say ok. I decided just to drive over since i had to take my 30 minute lunch break from work. When i get there the girl is talking to her friend in the parking lot. By the time i get out of the car she is inside. I walk to open the door and it's locked even though they are open. I knock on the door and see the girl at the computer right there. She finally cracks open the door and asks if she can help me. I say yes I would like to place an order and she says no i need 10 minutes. I tell here it's 10 aren't they supposed to be open? She tells me yes but she just got there. Well how can you be open but not let me place my order? It's not my fault you just got there. She was very rude and i will not be returning back what so ever. The drinks are great. Go for happy hour. The food is nothing special and very limited in selection. I had the El Jefe carnitas burrieto. Huge burrito with shredded pork. The pork was extremely dry and unseasoned. Nothing but dry pork wrapped in a tortilla.. The service we received was poor. After the second time asking for a glass to drink my beer from, I had to get up and walk to the bar to get one myself. The appetizer came with the dinner. A good example of how poor the food is representative of Mexican food is the Mexican fried ice cream. Picture a fried flour tortilla shaped like a bread pan with three scoops of vanilla ice cream and canned whipped cream on the top. That is what you will get. That isn't even close to Mexican fried ice cream. Fallbrook has excellent Mexican food so head into town for some well seasoned and a true selection of Mexican food. read more

The best thing to eat here is the carne asada burrito. It is huge and full of meat and quacamole and other delicious things. The salsa is pretty good. They make fried flour tortilla chips which are awesome. Price is not cheap but not too bad. We are frequent customers at Estrella's. Typically, the food is delicious and 5 star quality. Yesterday, I ordered a Tostada Bowl with grilled chicken...to go. Upon bringing the food home, I realized my tostada had a beautiful layer of fresh grilled chicken placed atop the gradeau of beans and salad. Then I realized something was missing. Well, a lot was missing. I had purchased $10 worth of lettuce mixed with re-fried beans in a tostada shell. My dish was missing cheese, sour cream, guacamole, onion, cilantro, and tomato, or pico de gallo. When I reached out to the manager today, I was told that no one could assist me and that the manager would return my call shortly. I am still waiting. My hope is that we can resolve this and return to frequent patronage! read more
