Ate at Estihana. Ordered miso soup, beef wok and my wife ordered vegetable lomein. The food tasted good but the overall experience was not. The vegatable lomain had very few vegetable - a few peas and not much more. I had to ask for crispy noodles when my soup came. And the main course Beef Wok comes in a portable wok that's meant to be kept warm by a tealight bit it there was no tealight. At $33.5 for this dish, the size was pretty small. Came in at noon today for a meeting. Although they open at noon, the 1st smell that hits you is cleaning fluid. Not sure if that's a good thing or just not. Cool electronic iPad menu. So the cleaning smell faded fast. Just went for the Udon Noodle Soup, which is pretty big. My associate went for a main and a soup as well. The place was empty and nearly an hour and a half later, still empty. I'd go back but later in the day anyway, or for dinner when I hear it is busy. read more

Estihana is kosher Asian fusion/sushi bar in a fine dining atmosphere. Think smaller-scale PF Chang's, with Israeli music playing overhead as you dine. Crispy beef and crispy chicken are their most popular dishes. The food is delicious, although what I had was very sweet. Almost too sweet for me. Price-wise, Estihana is expensive, especially if you compare it to regular Chinese takeout. However, Kosher dining is expensive in general. If you keep kosher and are looking for a restaurant for a date, a nice night out with the family, or to celebrate a special occasion, Estihana is the place for you. read more

What a horrible experience! The restaurant was so packed, I think it must have been a fire hazard. You could not walk to a table without interrupting fellow diners and having them get up so that you could walk past. It was so noisy, we could not even have a conversation. The worst part was the service. After we were seated, we waited over 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Then we waited for over 40 minutes for an appetizer of dumplings to come out. The tables on both sides of us, each which arrived after us, were served their meals before us. We had to flag down the waiters and were ready to leave when our dumplings showed up. Our entrees were served haphazardly. One came out and then the other showed up almost 10 minutes later. While the food tasted ok, $80 was just a ridiculous amount of money to pay for this restaurant. Took my wife and family for a birthday party. "crab" cakes were great! Spring rolls and crispy beef was good. Steaks were bad. Ribs were horrible, burnt, no flavor. I called at 729 to make a reservation for 8:15 reservations for 4, and traveling from Brooklyn to have dinner with old friends, we were surprised when we arrived on time, to be told 'sorry whoever you spoke to didnt put your reservations into the system'. We then, after waiting around half flour thinking what to do By 9pm, starving and not knowing where to go, we call Estihana and asked why after they were the one that made the mistake, wouldnt rectify it and seat us, finally after speak to 3 different people, they told us to please come back and they will seat us right away. Finally seated, not being waited on, one of us got the menus on our own. Finally by 9:30, our waitres showed up, and without any apology, took our order. She told us being they were so backed up, we couldnt alter our order at all. Fine. We waited to be seated too long Waited to be attended to way too long Then we waited for our food forever!!! After waiting and it alreay being 10:30, one of us had to leave... and no food on table, she left. Finally the food comes, and they want to charge us for the meal she never got to eat. We ate there 2 nights in a row and on the 3D night we raced there from the movie to get there by 10 pm as this site states & we got there at 9:50 pm and were told the kitchen closed at 9:40 pm. We were so excited about ordering 3 huge steaks but were turned away by a man with earlocks. There were quite a few diners inside & we were very disappointed. The owner should change the website from 10 p to 9:30 p if the staff want to get out early rather than serve new customers Or the owner can just change the manager as his discretion did not favor the customer BTW. Had a graduation party there and it was amazing!! They took care of all the details including decorating. We had waiters passing out amazing hors d'oeuvres before the main course. Good food and, I guess, a nice place to dine in. We had a horrible experience ordering takeout. Someone went to pick it up when it was supposed to be ready and it wasn't. They said they didn't know when it would be ready. Almost 2 hours later, we took our money back and left. No dinner at the dinner party. Night ruined. Visited this place twice... disappointing experience both times. The first time my wife and I went with a kosher friend of ours. The sushi did not smell fresh, we were ignored continuously, and we got the distinct feeling we were not welcome there. Draw your own conclusions. The second time I went again with my kosher friend since he doesn't have many options and I'm happy to accommodate. Again, the sushi did not seem fresh, the soup was bland, and the service was poor. When the bill came, I wondered how two 13 dollar lunch specials turned into a $42 bill. After analyzing the receipt I figured out why: We both got lunch specials with soda AND soup. We WERE aware that the lunch specials came with soda OR soup and that you'd have to pay extra for the other. What we didn't catch was the technicality that says the sushi special ONLY comes with soda, (no soup!) EVEN though the sushi lunch special is listed on the iPad page for lunch specials which says at the top "Each lunch special comes with soup or soda..." SO, what we ended up with is my friend's lunch special with a $3 up-charge for a can of ginger-ale (ridiculous price for a can of soda), and my sushi lunch special with an $8.50 up-charge for a miso soup. How anyone in their right mind can charge 8.50 for a cup of bad miso soup is beyond me... The manager insisted on his technicality and the waitress flat out lied and said she had informed us about the up-charge. When I told him it was either the soup or her tip, he reluctantly removed the soup from our bill. Would never patronize this place again and feel bad for my kosher friend who was embarrassed by their business practices. read more

I've been here a few times now and they always seem to be seriously understaffed. That may be annoying for the customers, but it seems like it's much worse on the staff. If you manage to order food, it comes out pretty quickly though. The ambiance is nice, if noisy. We waited maybe 20 minutes for someone to bring us the check, and after 20 more minutes of waiting for someone to have the time to pick it up, we just put cash in the check and left. The experience of leaving $90 in cash for two chinese entrees and two small sides (one of which was 4 dumplings) because nobody had time to take my money isn't one I'm going to forget anytime soon. read more

Sadly my experience this time was awful. We came in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday. No one was there. The food was eh, not hot and they served the appetizers and one of the entrees at the same time. The food should have been piping hot, not lukewarm. When asked why the entree was being served when we just got the appetizers - the response was you asked for it rare. So then fire it up later. This past shabbat, Estihana catered our son's bar mitzvah luncheon. The luncheon was a huge success! The food was plentiful and delicious, the set up was absolutely beautiful and the staff were attentive and professional. They really took care of everything and made sure the event ran as smoothly as possible, and ultimately there were no glitches! Yamin, the manager was very forthcoming and accommodated all our requests. Everything was perfect and many of our guests complimented us on the outstanding luncheon. I would highly recommend Estihana and I thank Yamin and his staff for an amazing event! read more

My party of 4 entered the establishment around 4:30 pm Christmas Day. There was one large party already there. We looked at the menu on iPads, which really is a great way to see the dishes and decide on what to order. We ordered our food before 4:45 pm. More and more parties arrived and were seated. Some even began to receive their food. Finally at 5:30 we asked what was going on and when would we be served. We were told that we would be the next table served. No food for us but food was brought to other tables. We asked again and again as to the status of our order. We were assured that our food was going to come out right away. Finally around 6:00 pm our food was served. The food was cold. We sent the Pad Tai back to be warmed up. The food tasted very good, as usual, which is why we went to this restaurant. Food was okay, but terrible service. The restaurant botched my order, only realizing once the meals were brought out. He then told me my meal would be free due to the delay, but we waited over 45 minutes(!) for my meal to arrive. General lack of professionalism of the staff was apparent throughout the evening (poor communication, forgotten cutlery, misheard orders). We pushed them to give a discount and eventually free dessert because of this, and they agreed, but it's still totally unacceptable. Another group apparently was having similar problems. Weird experience... and not in a good way. A few weeks ago, on a Sunday night, my wife & I came to Estihana for a belated Mother's Day dinner. We both got a strange vibe from the first moment--and nothing that came after was any better. As we approached the front door, a young man--possibly the manager, owner, guy who works the register, maitre' d, whatever--was sitting on the bench outside the restaurant. He got up and, after my wife held the door open for some diners leaving the place, he walked in behind her, stepping right in front of me. This would be fairly rude for anyone--but coming from someone who works in the restaurant you're about to patronize, it's kind of far-out. We stepped in, and were immediately greeted by... no one. Not one of the staff who were nearby acknowledged us in any way. So we turned to our new friend from outside, who'd gone behind the desk up front. And waited. No smile, no "Hi! Table for two?" After an awkward couple of moments, he muttered something, looking frankly bothered to have to deal with yet more customers.... and then had someone take us to a table. A waitress came by just after we got our menus, so I said, very nicely, "We'll need a couple of minutes." That's pretty standard--people normally like to look at the menu, right? And every other time I've ever said that, the waiter smiles and says, "Of course. Let me know when you're ready. Can I get you anything to drink in the meantime?" Not this lady. She actually made an annoyed face, just for a second --what you'd call "a look"--I would've thought I imagined it, but my wife & I both glanced at each other, almost laughing, because the whole thing felt so bizarre. The whole meal was like this--terse, silent service, and the distinct feeling that we were almost unwelcome. (And it's not as if we came just before closing time; nor were we the last to leave). At no point was anyone we dealt with in the least bit friendly or even just courteous--we were lucky just to get our food. (f lucky is the word: it was almost all dry & overcooked). We still tipped properly. We're very far from being picky, complaining customers, the kind who critique every little thing (like so many of the kvetchers on review sites, for whom every little imperfection is grounds for griping)----but this was probably the most mediocre eating-out experience we've ever had. When we left, both of us were about to reflexively say "Thanks. Good night!" as we always do. But actually, it's the restaurant owner or workers who're supposed to say to the customers, "Thank you, have a good night!" And since the guy couldn't be bothered to look up from his phone, or iPad or whatever as we walked right by him, we just left. I actually first sent this 'review' directly to the management of Estihana, from their website--figuring it's only fair to give them a chance to respond--maybe there were actually some extenuating cirucmstances that day (tho it's hard to justify simple rudeness), or maybe they'd just apologize.... Went for a late dinner. It was loud because of a large private party on the other side of the dividers, but we still had a nice time and delicious food with good (though not perfect service) in a nice ambiance. Too many menu options that I wanted to try, so I'll have to visit again. Because of the large party taking much of the time and attention fo the staff and kitchen, my party had plenty of time to relax and talk over the course of our meal, without feeling rushed. Staff was helpful and friendly, if slightly slow moving. Unlike some other patrons whom I overheard, I just spoke to the staff politely and with respect, and they took good care of us. It also took a little longer than I would have liked to get our check at the end of the night, but not a major problem.
