As a huge fan of retro video games, I've been building a semi-impressive collection of NES games for my office. eBay is an obvious choice for acquiring this stuff, but sometimes it's nice to just walk around a physical location. I had been to eStarland's Annandale location, which could be better described as a hovel (although a well stocked hovel). They are now located in an indiscriminate business park in Chantilly which pretty much increased their square footage tenfold. The new space is airy and well lit, and features a pretty great arcade in the back. On my last two trips to DC, I've made the effort to get out to Chantilly to cruise these aisles, bringing home Ducktales, Blaster Master, and a host of other NES hits. In some ways, I'd say eStarland is my Graceland (along with Ground Kontrol in Portland). Prices are going to be a little higher than what you may find on eBay, but it's just way easier to get what you want from here. The selection of systems is impressive, particularly some of the more little known ones. Need 32X or 3DO games? This is the place. You can also order their stuff off their website, but again, there's is something to walking into this temple of retro gaming and getting lost in the stacks of cartridges. read more

Great selection, horrible customer service. I just purchased a PS2 console 3 days ago. When i brought it home and hooked it up i noticed that the controller wasn't working. I then inspected it and noticed that one of the 9 pins on the controller was missing. No big deal it happens. So i went back to the store the next day and showed them the problem. They said no problem and they will look at it. 20 mins later they tell me they have given me a new controller....cool. Till i got home and plugged it in and still not working. I looked at the controller again and guess what they just gave me back the same remote. I called them about it and told them how upset i was about this due to the fact it was almost 3 hours round trip to get to them. There response was go throw it away and buy a new one. Really?!! I bought a console and remote and you wont even give me what i paid for. Like i said the selection is great buy the employees are rude, lazy and have zero desire to fix there own problems. read more

Great service, replaced broken screen in our Huawei P30 on time and for a decent price.

***UPDATED REVIEW AS OF 7-14-2017*** I'm really glad they addressed all my issues. Have not had any problems with the store and shopping is an easy experience as it should be. Seems like the staff increased too. Job well done management! ***Old review below*** 5/5 for Selection of Games and Other cool nerd merchandise 1/5 for the worst Customer Service (On Par with Wal-Mart) Great selection of games (old to current generation) and accessories (Anime, figurines, etc.) for all nerds alike, but do NOT expect good customer service. This has to be one of the worst places I've seen in terms of customer service. 1. Most, if not all, the employees will not approach you unless you get there attention. I am not over exaggerating either. For example, there's a few customers waiting to check out. Meanwhile, you'll have a group of employees either chatting on the side not knowing what's going on or re-stocking because "it's their job". It doesn't help the customers at all to just ignore. I'm not sure if the compensation they are receiving reflects their mood, but seems like they don't want to even be there which makes it even more awkward for the customer. 2. Need more employees in the front end. I've seen this place grow in popularity and they need to be aware that people will get pissed waiting in line for about half an hour just to purchase one thing. Overall, come to this place expecting some of the worst customer service, but I guess the items make up for it? I don't know. read more

I love this place I really do, but the last three times I've ordered online I've done priority shipping and I haven't gotten my packages in the time it told me that it would come. The first package I ordered I payed for 2-3 day shipping and it came in 8 days which is regular shipping. The second package I did the same and it took a week and a half to get here and now I am waiting on a package and this is the third day on a 2-3 day shipping and it still isn't here and actually they sent the tracking number and so I figured "oh okay tracking number means it's being shipped" and it still hasn't even left the store. I am very upset because I love this place and they have disappointed me many many times now. I'm at the point where I don't even want to shop here anymore or recommend this place to a friend. read more

It's the only older-gaming store nearby, and they have a good selection, really know what they're doing. HOWEVER; their barcode and pricing system? It sucks. Prices on individual items don't exist here. (Meaning: You have no idea how much everything costs until you get the receipt. The check out process takes forever as the cashiers have to search each item. Improvement please? read more

Bought multiple games from them over the years and never had a single issue. Now, I go to try and trade in a game they sold me, with writing on the disc, in the exact same condition they sold it to me as, which violates current company policy. CS manage refused to even discuss the issue, twice, and refused to let me talk to someone higher up. Poor service and will never deal with them again. read more

Abysmal. Seriously. Sure, they've got some pretty awesome (and in some cases rare) finds. Sure, they've got pretty good trade values. Sure, you could get lucky and walk out with no issues whatsoever. The reason I'm giving one star though is for the times that you DON'T make it out unscathed. I'll start with the general organization. Everything is everywhere. Even the employees can't find what they're looking for a good portion of the time. You could spend 30+ minutes waiting for them to just find what they said they have, just to be told "Oh well, you can wait for another one to come in." Not to mention the checkout process takes a lifetime. God forbid anyone try to checkout on a weekend. And all bets are off if they can't locate something immediately. No thought has been put into the efficiency of the process and no care has been given to making sure that customers have the most concise experience possible. Next, let's touch on the staff. Now for the most part, everyone there is pretty friendly and accommodating, save for one girl. I think the times I've been in there I've heard people call her Rebecca, so I'm going to assume that's her name. I honestly for the life of me can't understand why this girl works in retail. She doesn't care one iota about the customers, only that she is heard and that she is right. She's rude, abrasive, and downright nasty. I've seen her scream (literally scream) across the store because someone was leaning over a counter to see a game better. I've seen her try to correct other employees in front of everyone, and then have someone above her tell her she's misinformed. I've seen her tell customers outright that they're wrong when they just ask a simple question. If this girl is the face of the store, then that speaks volumes about what goes on behind the scenes. From what I can tell she's the most lost of anyone there, but acts like she's the boss. All in all, this place is not worth the pain. It's not worth the "savings" or the extra few dollars of trade. You will pay dearly with your time and your sanity. The fact that employees like this are allowed to continue working in customer facing roles and that a customer's time has no value to the management speaks volumes about the priorities of the company, and I can no longer support it. I recommend whoever reads this thinks twice about giving their business to eStarland. read more

Pro: 1) Great place to trade in and/or sell old console & games 2) Great place to buy old console games for good prices 3) Staff are very nice and helpful 4) Can bargain :P Con: 1) location is hidden 2) when you enter the location, you doubt if your in the right place Overall: If you can find them once...it's a nice location to be able to sell/trade/buy new&old games for all consoles! It's a cool place! :D read more

Great service! The screen was fixed within an hour and they notified me promptly. Highly recommend this place.

Slower than the DMV! I went there today to sell some old stuff. The entire transaction took more than 90 minutes from beginning to end. While I was waiting, the typical sale took about 20 minutes. In some cases people were purchasing one item. I regret going to this store. read more

This is not my first visit but I made a purchase this time. The store is a bit dark inside. It is packed with games. They also have the Mario game that it brings me back to my childhood. I bought a couple of games for my PS4. The quality of the games is good and the price is cheaper than other places I check online. The controllers and accessories are not cheap though, as I could find brand new ones at a lower price. I will come back here to get more games. read more

Found everything that I needed for my Super Nintendo and the guy working gladly tested it to see if it still works. He was really nice! Also they have so many cool vintage things and tons of cool figures! Definitely a cool place to check out:) read more

I remember this place when they had a store in Annandale. Now they have expanded it to an office park in Chantilly inside of a warehouse. It is a little difficult to find and you are a little hesitant to go in thinking it is a private office, but once you are inside you will see whats it is all about. Shelves upon shelves of old video games. NES, SNES, Sega. You name the console, they have games (and maybe the console itself) for sale. They also have used and new games for the more modern system. Last time I was in there I spent probably an hour going through the games, rehashing my childhood. I find the prices reasonable considering you are dealing with some games that are 30 years old. I got a couple N64 and game cube games for about $15 each. The games for the newer consoles seem to be on par with Gamestop. The only complaint I have is the customer service. Let's just say they don't go out of their way to make sure you are finding what you need. I understand it is a big store with a lot of inventory, but just asking if we are finding everything would be great. I have no problem looking up my game and finding to see if it is stock, but not having prices on things is a little annoying. One thing I do like is if they don't have a game, you can sign up for an email alert that will tell you when the game is in stock. Great if you are trying to find one that is out of the ordinary. Overall, I think this store is fantastic and their selection and the feeling of nostalgia I get every time I walk in makes up for the service. read more

Excited to see their brand continue to grow! My biggest two gripes with the store are pricing and customer service. You're one of a kind in the area and in my opinion you should act that way! Be the best in class when it comes to service and more folks will come in. Coming from a Customer Service background I totally get the awkward people trying to swindle you or the completely clueless parents. Make an effort for all folks and it will pay dividends. All of that aside, fantastic store and great website, wish shopping in the store was a bit more streamlined, some games (Wii and 3DS) can be hard to see against the back rack. A must visit for anyone in the area. read more

In-Store: The employees seem apathetic to the needs and wants of the customers. Online: I've had orders on multiple occasions canceled because the website claimed something was in-stock and in actuality it wasn't (or it was listed as the incorrect item). Products: Good variety of new and old school gaming... if you can stomach the atrocious customer service. Note: Beware the rigid return policy! read more

All things vintage video games. Their trade in and reservation system is easy and convenient. You

I cannot overstate how impressed I am with the service of this place. I am a clumsy person and have had my phone screen crack a bunch of times and fixed by a lot of places, and I have never found anywhere that fixes phones at rates as great as here. When the LCD of my screen broke and the wiring started acting funky my heart dropped because I know that electronic wiring issues are typically more expensive than superficial glass repairs, but this place includes the cost of LCD repair in glass repair, and it only cost $55 to fix my iPhone 8! That is almost unheard of! The repair was quick and they threw on a usually $40 screen protector for only $7. The manager of this store is a great, understanding guy and very responsive to messages on Yelp. Even if I move out of the area I would literally travel to come fix my screen here and I'm telling everyone I know to come to eStarLand! read more

A great shop. Great prices, the best selection, and friendly service. I used to go in once a week or so after work when I lived in VA, now I still order online. Older/used products are always in great clean condition and eStarland has the best prices and availability. If you get a chance to visit the "showroom" in person, I highly recommend it. You will have a huge smile on your face as soon as you walk in. read more

best buy back values on used games anywhere, especially gamestop. They carry so much great collectors items pertaining to anything japanese pop culture related. A great place just to walk around. Only downside is that it is located in an industry park so not much else to do there. If only more people appreciated the novelty that is estarland and moved closer to busier areas. I can understand their location on the otherhand, being that they have a great online store that's very competitive with amazon. They even allow same day pick up at their location for in stock items. read more

Great place for vintage and new games. No other store compares. They give you the best value for trades as well. The library of games and systems they have is simply astonishing. Best game store in Northern VA. read more

Do not trust their "repair" services. If i could give them 0 stars, I would. I sent my Sega CD in for repair and, according to them, it was damaged in transit and not repairable. They sent it back to me and, upon inspection, the motherboard had been swapped out for one that had been recapped and had damaged circuit traces. The BIOS chip had also been tampered with. The motherboard in my unit was not faulty to begin with and I did not authorize any work to be performed on it. When I contacted them to resolve the situation, they ignored me. Do not trust your precious retro hardware to them. They are unethical and dishonest. read more

This shop has everything teenage me would have love (Who am I kidding, I still love it all). Random anime figures, a bunch of toys, classic video games to try, and every game system imaginable. Went on a Saturday afternoon to picked up a few games for the SNES and the Game Gear. Came home with a few SNES games, Game Gear games, a Sega Genesis, a few games for that, and some other random components for systems we already owned. I could easily spend way too much here. If you are interested in Game Gear games, you need to get on one of their computers and look at the listings and ask a staff member, since they are stored off the floor. Also, two things to note. First, it is easy to miss this place as it is on the back side of one of the buildings in a pretty deserted office park (on weekends), if you are following google map directions. Second, they made me register in their computer system on their website before I could make a purchase. Register in advance of going and save yourself some time in line. Oh and they have regularly scheduled swap meet type things. Sounds pretty awesome. read more

They killed it! Extremely fair price and a very good repair, and their shop is a retro gaming and otaku heaven! I had to wait a good 15mins to talk to an employee on pick up and drop off, but that's just because they were busy both times I came. Highly recommend. read more

Nerd heaven! Huge inventory of vintage video games & consoles. Very friendly staff, I'll totally go back.

I just got a screen replaced on my son's iphone and it was done perfectly and within an hour. Extremely satisfied with the service that I received and the quality of the screen. Their price for this service was the lowest in the area. I will be doing more business with eStarland, I highly recommend. read more

Best shop I've ever been too. They have a sliding scale on game prices (supply and demand) so they can have great deals at any time. Look forward to going back! read more

What a cool place! When I first walked in and started looking around the 10 year old in me went bonkers!!! So many retro games, systems, it was overload in the best way possible. Just about any game I could think of they had, which is unbelievable to me. You just have to take a stroll through yourself and check it out! read more

The physical store is amazing with just about any game for any system available, to include imports from Japan. The prices are reasonable and the selection is bigger than I've ever seen in a retro game store before. There are some games on the shelf that are obstructed by a counter making it too hard to see the games and when I finally got the attention of an employee he just told me to use the computer and find the game on their website. It kind of defeated the purpose of browsing around and looking at everything. The estarland website is not very good. It is easy enough to find what you're looking for, but the website is rarely updated. The "daily steals" section has been the same for roughly 10 days and the "Price drops in last 7 days" section looks the same every time I check it for the past couple of weeks. read more

They have just about anything you could imagine as far as gaming. Import, domestic, gaming guides, arcade machines, toys...Everything. And it's big! They even have computers where you can look up items. What I don't like are the high prices on popular games. I understand, but frankly you can go on eBay and get the same day for at least $5 cheaper. Even with shipping. read more

For someone like me who loves to collect old classics this place is an absolute nightmare to buy from. I'm writing this in hopes others see this and take these things into account. I've been going to this store for years and I'm just finally fed up. First off the way games are displayed for higher valued games are awful. They put them in a glass case right next to the checkout registers. So unless you want to be on top of people trying to buy something and leave you have to constantly wait to see the games that might be of higher value which some of the best games are. Then once this hurdle is passed the games are displayed in a way that make it extremely hard to see some being even completely covered at times which makes no sense. The next hurdle is figuring out the pricing which you have to go to a computer and search for it. Which brings me to the next hurdle. For someone like me i prefer my old games CIB (complete in box) and in decent condition. But the website has no way to verify this and pricing is wrong on their website at times. And if you find a game through the website actually finding it is near impossible you'd think it would be easy since they want you to buy games. The website will usually just says they have 3 copies and maybe one is CIB but then it doesn't even say what condition it's in other than a generic "good" which I can tell you from experience is not always true. And finally after all this the lines take forever because people are constantly trying to make returns because.... You guessed it... that the games were not in good condition and most of their employees have to grab a manager for returns. I literally witnessed an interaction between two employees one asking if they knew how to do returns and he said no. Like how is that even possible.... If you're going here for basic stuff or memorabilia it's serviceable but for actually buying quality retro games is unbearable. read more

Been an in-store and online customer for about 4 years now and have to agree with all of the recent negative comments regarding service. I went in after lunch on a Weds to do a pre-processed trade in, and buy a few things while I waited. I was visiting in-person after moving away a year ago. The customer service has reached an all time LOW. I was the ONLY customer in there, and when I asked the one sales staff member on the floor if he was busy so he could ring me up (familiar friendlier manager was busy on the phone) he responded "kinda yea.." I was buying a gameboy and a few games they had listed all as in-stock and waited an hour and a half for them to unsuccessfully do their job. The unhelpful staff member was crazy rude and curt to me, acted as if my purchase was the inconvenience of a lifetime, "because things are impossible to find." After waiting for the first hour with no response, I told the friendlier manager to tell his staff member to just give up since I had been waiting so long with no update and having been treated poorly to begin with. That's when I found the gameboy I had requested in the case right between where the manager and I were speaking. The other staff member finally emerged after the manager called back to him to inform him, and he simply replied "son of a bitch" at his frustration. He finally brought me 3 of the 4 games that were listed as in stock. I would have happily searched for the games myself but they keep ALL GameBoy/color games hidden back in inventory. I only saw a few spare GBA in-packaged games on the floor. Only reason this is not 1 star is that they to continue to have a pretty wide selection, and I have been a customer for so long :( I realize I am identifying myself to the friendly manager I like, but this issue has been percolating for too long. TL;DR Came in at 3pm and left at 5pm for a gameboy and 3/4 listed in-stock games. Unable to beat 2 hour rush hour drive back to DC totaling 5 hours altogether. 2pm-7pm = a bad deal considering time and gas. read more

The store was clean and organized and had tons of games new to used from atari to switch. I also like that they had a website I could check like sure they have the games I need in stock. The staff was also well informed on the games and helped me find games I wanted. My one nitpick is that you need to see the prices on your phone even in store. They do provide free wifi and a qr code to scan, but it would be nice to just pick something up and see the price, but I do understand this probably makes it easier to change prices if need. read more
