I've shopped here twice. The selection was nice. The first time I went a female staff member was friendly and helpful. The second time a male employee was indifferent and slow. The SNES games I purchased had an annoying warranty sticker over the case screws like I'm not going to check for authenticity and corrosion. The sticker was a pain to get off without damaging the cart. Inside, the games were fine. They had original batteries which was a little disappointing. A quick isopropyl alcohol cleaning of the pins produced a dirty q-tip which was also disappointing. I'm on the fence about shopping here again and it is a shame because I'd rather support a local store. read more

Okay.. this place is nostalgia for anyone born in the 80s. Unlike GameStop, this place has a lot of old school systems and games, along with lots of cool toys and trinkets. Really cool place for nerdy people who love video games. Also the prices in general seem to be better than GameStop. What my favorite part about this place is that you can order things online and then pick up your order in store. So you can see their inventory of used games and then buy it and pick it up in store. Minus a star just because their system is sometimes a bit confusing to use. Especially the in store system. They have a few computer stations sitting around that you can use as a catalog, but then it says to select what you want to buy and check out using the computer. The girl that helped me told me to just tell her directly what I wanted instead of using the computers. I still don't understand why the computers are there. Maybe just for the catalog part to look up the inventory of various games? read more

One of the best Retro video games stores on the east coast. This store has been around since I was a kid in the 90s.

This shop and brand deserves a 5 plus rating. I had some issues with my ps4 pro and wanted someone have a look at it. These folks checked it without any fee and told me that there is nothing wrong with my ps4 pro. I was surprised as given the opportunity to someone else they might have charged me something. So I bought a game as a compliment to them. Loved the service and the shop. Will be a regular there from now onwards. read more

This is a very unprofessional business. I purchased a Sega CD model 2 console and a Sega Genesis model 2 console from them. Along with an RF NES modulator for my TurboGrafx 16. I connected the two units together and the Sega Genesis powered on but not the Sega CD. I tried to connect it several times with no luck. The units were still wrapped separately? I cleaned the connector piece to the Sega Genesis that fits into the Sega CD with q-tips and 90% isopropyl alcohol and it was FILTHY! Really a Grade A refurbished unit, guys??? So, they didn't even bother to test them as a singular unit. They send me an antenna connector for the Genesis? They couldn't put in an AV compatible cable for $5 for such a large purchase?!! The controller's letters were almost all wiped away and the A button was loose. The adapters were third party and weighed lighter than a feather. Not even sure if they would be powerful enough to turn on the system. I contacted them and a bot answered me explaining 'these things happen' and the refund process? Excuse me? No I have made many purchases through out the years and it doesn't just happen. Maybe the fact that they put paper on the bottom of the box and no peanuts or cushion may have made it 'happen'. They were never like this. I purchased from them seven years ago for the same system and it brought me many years of joy and pleasure. No idea who is in charge now but I do not trust them. And on top of that, the RF NES modulator wire is heavily damaged. It works worse than the one I own now! They should address the customer and not copy and paste email responses in emails to there cliente, this wasn't a controller I was buying for $15, it was a complete Sega CD system. If your doing that much volume and not enough staff to support it, you really need to rethink your business practices. I CAME to you solely for your great and trusted business practices. I am not sure what happened to you. If I knew this I would have bought from Lukiegames. Stay away from this business, there are MANY other options out there who are willing to speak with you and not ignore you like you are a number. Shame shame shame eStarland deserves no Stars. read more

From step 1 to step 15, e Starland's staff kept the process simple, professional, safe during a pandemic, and so cheap, I wonder how they turn a profit. I called them up, they advised me how to set up an account so I could come in and drop off my PS4. They cordially explained the two possible fixes and why they tended to happen, when I asked; explained how long it should take and gave me an approximated quote. Less than 24 hours later, I got an email explaining their diagnosis, they gave me an exact quote, and asked my permission to do the fix. Maybe 24 hours after it was ready for pickup and works perfectly. I have to add -- everyone wore their masks correctly, was super friendly, and made the process of taking my PS4 in for a fix so painless. read more

Worst and slowest customer experience of my life. The young woman behind one of the registers just sat there looking at me in the long line without saying a word. The man at the other register was taking 10+ minutes to check out the customer before me. There were tons of employees just standing around watching while talking or listening to music yet none of them said or did anything. This isn't even the first time I have had this issue there. Previously a different group of employees gave me a similarly grueling 15+ minute wait experience. Never used to have this problem years ago. they need new management read more

It won't let me edit my previous review. After I posted about being told they didn't repair laptops the owner contacted me through Yelp and explained it was a new service and apparently not all employees had been informed. The quality of their used games, accessories, and systems is the highest I've ever purchased. They resurface CD games and thoroughly clean cartridges and controllers. The majority of the staff that I've dealt with have been super helpful at tracking down items in their warehouse. I will miss this place when I eventually leave the area. TLDR: This place is better than what Funcoland used to be, and what GameStop wishes it could be. read more

This place is amazing. My other half and I have been all over looking for particular systems or games (mckay's in manassas, bits and pixels in Carytown by Richmond recently) and this by far takes the cakes. He found this place and checked it out before taking me. He came home that night with a sega game gear that worked amazing and the jungle book game. I was so stoked to play since he's more the retro gamer (he's got in the past two weeks like 8 snes and genesis games from here!) When I finally walked in a week later I felt like I died and went to heaven. The staff is so awesome, and uber helpful too. They have every console you could image somewhere in this store I believe as well, I just know what I saw on the walls lining them at the top and was insanely impressed. They have some games set up to play throughout the showroom and some older video arcade style 25 cent games too in the back. I will say watching YouTube channels like Jon Tron, the Angry Video Game Nerd, the Completionist, and Cygnus Destroyer/The LJN Defender I have become increasingly more interested in the retro games. I did get super excited to pick up a copy of The Lion King for the genesis. Next is the Contra 3 they have for snes. The prices of you live local are the best and competitive in the vicinity of their demographics. If buying online I am not sure of shipping costs but think a lot of the aesthetics is seeing it for yourself. As mentioned they do have awesome merchandise I definitely picked up a awesome Triforce clutch from A company I could only find for 30 + shopping online there for 14.95 + tax. This place is like heaven and I recommend you must experience it at least once in your life. read more

I traded in some games with them via mail. They paid less than half what they quoted for the games and some of them they didn't pay for at all. When I said 'no deal' and asked for them back, they told me they had been destroyed. Some of these were collector's editions with metal cases etc. I'm so mad about this. Don't give them ANYTHING for trade. You're better off giving your stuff away to someone that will appreciate it, or selling items on eBay. If you Google them you'll see a bunch of similar complaints on the Better Business Bureau website. read more

Always fun to visit and was for the longest time the only spot for me to get video games and related items. The pandemic however has caused stock to go down and prices to go up so finding the game you are looking for could be a bit more challenging. But overall, definitely worth a visit. Staff are friendly and helpful as well. read more

Any company or business can have their share of complaints or bad reviews. That including Estarland themselves but I am writing this because staff doesn't care enough to handle massive issues or even simple customer service troubles, even to point of wanting to talk with upper management but being denied..let's begin with some common pros and cons before moving onto the complaint shall we? Pros: -Decent stock and inventory -Decent trade values Cons: -Horrible customer service -Not guaranteed game if still going through processment for longer than 10-15+ days especially if they make a huge mistake and sell off. -Will nickel and dime faults at times with trade ins even if they are fully working and as most said,it is true they will either keep or discard your stuff in trash if do not mention to them specifically that want stuff back and cover for shipping unless use trade credit to do such. -Will accuse of trying to resell when are not and never respond back to accusations Onto the complaint: vvvvv Complaint: Had used trade credit as have done through many times to purchase a $400 game which was still being processed and was told it would need at least "$20" more until they could ship. 10-15 days later with nothing moving, contacted and was told they would ship within 24-48 hrs until they when received email saying they sold out and apologized for any inconvenience despite order saying processed and email stating they were sending. Curious to see what was going on,talked with one of the employees who stated "Oh no" and apologized as an employee "Sold off" game but as another. Did not offer much help other than there was nothing they could do except "$5",a "refund" & dibs whenever it would come back in trade to buy but I would have to pay for it. Fustrated and disappointed, had asked to speak with upper management only to be denied even talking. Let me ask you, does any legit business deny you the chance to talk with upper for simply wanting a better resolution? No and that's a poor excuse which leads me to believe they did not like the pricing and took it off despite giving the "Employee did not realize it was this edition" based excuse when covers are different ontop of cart itself. Since this is the only way to really outreach since emails get ignored ontop of feedback I hope many see this company cannot keep or hold their guarantee as are likely told by their owner and founder to do so in situations which is very disappointing. Highly suggest if are looking for better deals or even simple trade ins to use gamestop or even ebay but with purchases to think twice because you may end up in a similar situation like myself who never thought a company or business such as EStarland would stoop that low read more

What a great little store! You can visit here and shop for new and used games, without the hassle of climbing over tons of sticky-fingered little kids who were dropped off by their parents. Things to know: - All of their used games are either shrinkwrapped or bagged. - They sell consoles, clone machines (independently made consoles that play NES/SNES/Genesis/etc.), games, accessories, and more. - Most games have no prices, and you need to take it up to the counter (or name the game) to get the price. - Getting into the store can be a bit confusing. Just park in front of the building/house, and walk to the right side of the building, where it says customer drop-off. Open the door, and go up the stairs. - They also sell a good bit of anime and toys. - Have I mentioned there are no kids? This is far and away the best part of the store. It's off the main highway(s), so you'd only really know about the store if you've heard about it or seen it online. - They also take credit card, and as best I can tell, there's no minimum amount for purchase. read more

My Tradein order was received May 14th. I received my tradein credit 5/31. I placed an order using the trade-in credit 6/3. It was for a few amiibos and the rest of the balance as PSN cards. After a week I did not receive it or see it ship. I reached out they said they were waiting on the PSN cards to ship it. They could not give me an ETA. On 6/16 they shipped the package and I only received 2 of the 6 PSN cards they owed me. After repeated emails since then I have gotten no response. I got a backorder notification 7/13 that was automated and said the cards were backordered. I have requested 3x since 6/16 that they just purchase a digital code to send me my balance. Tomorrow it will be over 1 month without a human response and they still owe me over $200 in merchandise. read more

I bought games from them for awhile everything is a great until you try to return a game that doesn't work when it arrived. I've been contacting them through Facebook through bbb which by the way there's a lot of buyers with the same problem and email which I can't do anymore because they blocked me. On top of that before they blocked my email they sent several emails that were disrespectful calling me names. So as it stands right now they have $15 of Mine and I have an expensive coaster. A lot of times places will have bad reviews undeservedly I can attest they are not above taking your money for bad product then antagonizing you along he way. read more

Excellent service, although did not know changing phone battery would take this long. But i would recommend this vendor for sure.

My son is obsessed with retro consoles. It's great for me because I get to play all the games I played when I was his age. He found a Sega Genesis last week, and so we ventured out to eStarland to see what we could find. The place is magical. They had a huge selection of games from a lot of different consoles. NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, etc. Some of the games were in the boxes with the manual, some were just the cartridge. All of them were hitting me with hardcore nostalgia. For having so much stuff, it was arranged in a way that made it easy to search through everything. The only negative was the checkout. Several reviewers have commented on the glacial pace of the checkout process, and they're not wrong. None of the items had prices, so we had to check that at the register. It took some time to get someone to notice me and then a little more time to actually check out (slow computer). But I figured I've been waiting since 1994 to play some of these games, what's a few minutes longer? FYI: I'm still good at NBA Jam. read more

All staff wore masks and enforced the mask policy (didn't let a family in without their masks on). I can't speak for their repair services, but the shop was very limited and underwhelming. Half of the items were not labeled with a price & you can apparently scan a barcode to get the price, but it didn't work for me. Seems a little lazy to mark half the stuff they have. read more

Awesome place. A hidden gem. They repaired my PS2 at a super reasonable price. Also fixed a display issue with a Samsung tablet without charge due to a loose cable issue. I even offered to pay for opening it up and performing a diagnostic but they said don't worry about it. Quick turn around and very friendly service. Best to browse and order the game selection on-line and then go pick it up or pay a small shipping cost. It'll save you a bunch of time as they have a massive collection in the warehouse. (This review is solely for their trade-in process.) eStarland definitely has some of the best trade-in values I've seen, especially if you've been diligent about keeping the original accessories and packaging for your retro games. However, their trade-in & cash out process is (as of this review) ridiculously slow. You'll get your money eventually, but you'll need to stay on top of the entire process to do so. Since I'm local to the area, I created a fairly large trade-in order online (including two consoles) and dropped it off in person; the representative behind the register let me know that the console verification process (to make sure it works) would take about 30-45 minutes (per console). Since I had already filled everything out online and taken the time to package up my games, consoles, and accessories carefully, I figured this would be a fairly painless transaction. I had some time to kill, so I walked around the store to peruse their fairly large collection of games, accessories, and figurines. After about an hour and a half without any updates, I needed to leave and let one of the reps know - he handed me a drop-off form (asking for my contact info) that I was apparently supposed to receive and fill out when I first arrived. Whoops. On my way out, I checked the status of my order online and it looked like some of the items in my trade-in order had already been processed. This gave me the impression that the rest of my trade-in would be finished within the next 24-48 hours -- how wrong I was. Three weeks and many more phone calls later (each call ending with a promise that it'd be done "in a few days"), I finally received an email that my trade-in was finished. I immediately put in a request via their website to cash out via PayPal, which was listed with an average processing time of 2-7 business days. Another 16 days passed before I finally received my payment. Moral of the story? If you can wait 5+ weeks for eStarland to process and credit you for an internet-invoiced, in-person trade-in, go for it. read more

If one thing about estarland is consistent it's their service. I waited literally 2 hours for some reason. They already went through my trade at hour one the place went from medium to low amount of customers. I even started all this crap online. This is a review for their retail location , not their online store. I really want to like this place, I mean they have everything you want. What more could a retro gamer ask for? However I have been to the store at least 20+ times and have never been greeted or asked if I need help finding something. When checking out I usually have to wait 5 minutes or so because they're always busy filling an order on their computer exc. If you ask for any help, the employees always act like they're way too busy to help you. I really do understand that they're mostly an online retailer and they have a lot of business to attend to over the computer , but it's just bad business not to help people in the store. At least day hi to customers when they come in and walk by you. But things go more downhill for me. In the past year or so, I have preordered 3 items months in advance, all which have been cancelled and refunded days after their supposed release date. One particular item I preordered and went into the store on release day to pick it up, and I was then told that they arnt going to get the shipment for the item at all. I asked why and was told they put items on their site they think they will get shipments for but they don't always get them. Then why put them on your site? This doesn't make sense to me, especially if you're an online retailer and people are waiting for the items to be shipped to them. I think their item selection is really nice in this store especially since there is not a lot of other stores in northern virginia like this place. However, the horrible customer service here and preorder issues far outweigh how cool this store may be. read more

I am so sad to have to write a 1-star review for a place I want to like so much. I understand that they are mainly an online business and perhaps that is much better. My review is for their actual store out in Chantily. I show up to the store and look around a bit before heading up to the register. I tell the clerk that I would like to get a used Sega Genesis. He says okay and that it will be just a couple of minutes for them to clean it. This seemed odd to me as they had several of them just sitting in the displays ready to go. I am also put off that they have to "clean" it. He could've said getting it ready, but this already put a bad taste in my mouth. So I decide to wait. About 40 minutes go by (I am not even exaggerating this time). He comes back out after a long time disappearing into the back. I ask him politely if he knows how much longer it is going to be. He tries his best to ignore me, but mumbles that he will check in a few minutes. He was incredibly rude about it and disappeared off to somewhere else. I just left at that point. Hardly any other customers were getting helped either. The selection is great but the staff is just incredibly not helpful and rude. It is a shame too, because I really wanted to love a store like this. :( read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could, eStarland products are Awful. I have to drive far to get there from home. I bought the Skyrim game there and it didn't even work! I also bought a PS3 there in the past and after 3 months the thing stopped working, so I drove the long distance to get there and I asked if they could fix it, and they were gunna charge me!!! I said can I exchange it for a working system, they said NO, I said can you at least give me some credit towards a future purchase, they Said NO, so I said fine, last time I buy a System from you all. Anyways I figured the PS3 Games would work, and they proved me wrong. So Shoppers Be Aware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Game Stop is so worth Shopping there instead. eStarLand will take advantage of your time/money/ and what ever else. A geeky gamer's paradise! I first heard about eStarland through a coworker who mentioned they had a ridiculous Nintendo/ NES selection of games. The same coworker just sold me a refurbished NES so figured I'd stock up on games at this place. I was warned to go in with a list of games I wanted since it could get overwhelming (naturally, I wrote down all the games I had as a kid). When I got there (it is hidden amongst office buildings with a very small sign- if you feel like you're in the wrong place, trust you're not!), I wasn't prepared for how many games they have. For the NES games in particular, it's basically one whole row, which isn't much in comparison to the walls and walls of Xbox and Wii games. At any rate, I found a few things: California Games (bought solely for the nostalgia of it- the game kinda sucks), Yoshi's Cookie, Super Mario Bros 3 and DUCKTALES! I was shocked they had Ducktales so took a stab and asked if they had Darkwing Duck- they didn't unfortunately but their stock changes often so the clerk mentioned I should just check back. As someone else mentioned, there aren't prices on each game but if you want to know how much something is, just ask. If you don't want to make the trek out there for fear they won't have your favorite game, check their online stock-- for games specifically, it's broken up into console to make things easier. If it's been listed on their site, it's ready for sale (but might not necessarily be on the sales floor). read more

I was excited when I walked in to this store because there was a wide variety of games and many I rarely see in the average retro store. I have visited eStarland several times looking for Super Nintendo and PlayStation RPG games. I can usually find about 1/3 of the games I am looking for each time I visit them. Prices are a little high, especially for the older/harder to find RPG games. Employees are friendly enough and helpful most of the time. On several occasions it took a very, very long time to checkout. Checkout is the worst part about this place. It seems like employees have to manually search for each game in their system and then click/check a million boxes before they can ring it up and move on to the next game. I give them 4 stars because I love video games and they have many games. This is the only used video game store in NoVA (that I am aware of) with a large selection of SNES and PS1 games. I would downgrade them to 3 stars if there was another used video game store of this size in the area. read more
