    Paella - delicious

I'm generous considering the various places we've tried so far... Everything we ordered had lots of flavor and was pretty fresh.

Estado Puro was one of our favorite restaurants in Spain and easily our favorite in Madrid . . . we came here for 2 of our 3 dinners in Madrid. It's Paco Roncero's (La Terraza) modern take on tapas with a cool interior with a big retro picture on the back wall (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kAR8B2v28OZLIv6AwfdWig?select=ik9dfhb7KeR_8PNtHzxeng) and a funky ceiling covered with these gold comb things (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kAR8B2v28OZLIv6AwfdWig?select=QYOArAiy3FKpV5lEu26DSw). Prices for most items are 2-10 Euros with the Iberico ham at 21 Euros. Eating outside on the terrace adds a 10-15% premium over eating inside. We found everything to be delicious. Some of our favorites: - Fried Egg with Baby Squid (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kAR8B2v28OZLIv6AwfdWig?select=GSt8mc-or4gIf53FXan4Mg). There's a sunny-side up egg in there that you break up and mix around. See my other pics for more details. - Tempura asparagus with romescu sauce (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kAR8B2v28OZLIv6AwfdWig?select=dckF-R5shQq0Z35_rx5qaQ) - Iberian Pork Steak "Presa Iberica" with chimichurri (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kAR8B2v28OZLIv6AwfdWig?select=IE-K7GuWVOW32Nd-iefqHQ) See my pics for other items we enjoyed.

You can sit outdoors or indoors. Sitting outdoors costs a bit more, but when it's a nice day, who wouldn't want to enjoy dining outdoors. The menu that we had:: Ham croquettes-relish and warm Mussel croquettes-spicy, but still delicious Patatas bravas-potatoes with some spicy sauce Pear and mushroom salad-had some soy sauce and bean sprouts! Asian influence?! Roasted tomato with tuna belly-yum! Bottle of Spanish white wine-Chardonnay. Tastes like an American Sauvignon blanc. Eihter way, we enjoyed it!

Its very lounge-y lookin in here. Orange lights and a very long bar stand out....as well as the 3 euro red wines and 1.20 euro mahou cerve(th)as. I'm more into old school Spanish interiors...New York City has lots of these spots already.

Strange location seemingly serving tourists but then the food selection is diverse and actually quite creative too. I'm confident there is less mainstream options but if seeking English speaking service, an English menu and an amazing view from the outside patio of Neptune with his sea horses then this is the place - the view at night of the fountain is mind blowing! Aside from the rose ice cream with wine infused fruits I found most food to be average actually. Maybe a few other things are equally as creative and worthy like the mini burgers or Caesar salad but at the higher than normal price point I hoped for more culinary details.

i stayed in the nearby westin palace and discovered estado puro when looking for dinner. the menu is quite large with many types of tapas, croquettes, fish, fried bites, rices, and full dishes. at first i was overwhelmed on how to choose, so the waiter had some great advice and was helpful for me to pick my items. i started with a salmorejo creamy soup that had a tomato base with crunchy ham that added a nice texture. my favorite dish was the pig's trotters over toast with cod noodles on toasts. the trotter's were so tender and a little bit fatty with excellent savory flavor, very well balanced with the cold noodles. i also enjoyed the callos a madrenos which is a stew with tripe and sausage, very interesting flavor and i ended up eating the whole thing. i was curious about the parmesan ice cream but decided against this to finish.

Madrid, Spain is packed with great food. "Paella" is a popular and traditional dish in Spain, one can find it anywhere, you won't have a problem finding the delicacy. But how can you tell which is best? (I thought the same) Luckily, there was a "Estado Puro" next to our wonderful hotel (The Westin Palace). The atmosphere seemed nice so hey, that was enough to convince us to step inside, and we were glad we did. I had to try Paella (logically) and all I can say is that I was quickly transported to taste heaven. Our waiter did warn of us of a 20 minute wait, which only indicated my dish would be fresh, I was right. Served on a hot cast iron skillet, the dish smelled delish and was adorned with 3 delicious mussels that disappeared soon after the plate landed in front of me. The dish reminded me of "jambalaya" but with a Spanish twist. The deliciousness was soon gone. See the before pic attached on this post for the visual interpretation. Although the portion was just right, somehow I left enough space for dessert, my all time favorite TIRAMISU, which blew me away. Sorry no pic of it, it was gone before I could snap a pic of it, but attached you'll see the empty cup :) Overall I loved this place, and the prices were decent, I paid 20€ for the meal which included a nice glass of Chardonnay that paired nicely with the seafood. Next time you're in Madrid give this place a try, you won't regret it.

Everything was fantastic, but the Sangria was spectacular, (probably one of the best sangrias I've ever had). At the end of our meal, Pepe brought us two liquor de Limon shots, which made our whole night!! Definitely recommend this place in the La Latina neighborhood. You won't regret it!

When we visited, it was packed to the point where you were shoulder to shoulder with other guests and close enough to easily hear the party next to you. It adds to the charm if you enjoy that classic crowded European dining atmosphere, but it is something to keep in mind if you prefer more space.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Madrid on a very cute street, and it is easy to find and walk there if you stay in the city center. The place is not very big - both times I went there for lunch, there were no tables available, so I had to sit at the bar; once I even had to wait about 7 minutes until one bar spot became free. The restaurant's design is simple, but pretty and lovely. Overall, the restaurant is in very good condition and was perfectly clean both times I visited. The only small downside is that the place is quite noisy, but it did not bother me. One of the best things about this place is the people who work there - both a guy and a lady at the bar were extremely nice and friendly to me; plus, both spoke very good English. They gave me recommendations on what to try, and I followed their advice. The restaurant's menu is not big, but it has all the most popular traditional Spanish dishes. Both times I ordered Rabo de Toro (a traditional Spanish stew), Fardos (squid rolls with bacon and squid ink mousse); and once I also tried croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes). The croquettes were tasty - I loved their flavor and soft texture. One portion includes 6 pieces, and they are quite big and filling. It was my first time trying Fardos (I ordered a 1/3 portion), and it was a great experience - the dish turned very delicious after the bartender mixed it for me. The squid was cooked very nicely, and combined with the fresh bacon and ink mousse, it tasted fantastic. Rabo de Toro (I ordered a 1/2 portion) was also my first time trying this dish, and I loved it - the stew was perfectly cooked, very soft and moist, with rich flavors, and it melted in my mouth. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of drinks, especially wines. I do not drink alcohol, so I was recommended to try grape juice - Mosto, which was extremely flavorful and tasted like fresh pressed grape juice, even though it came from a glass bottle. I loved that drink! Price-wise, all items on the menu seemed reasonable. I paid €8 for 6 ham croquettes, €12 for a half portion of Rabo de Toro, €8 for a 1/3 portion of Fardos, and €3 for one glass of grape juice. It is possible to have a nice full lunch here for around €22, which is reasonable for a restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The place accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay, which is a big plus. If you visit this restaurant, I strongly recommend trying 1/3 or 2/3 portion of Fardos, a half portion of Rabo de Toro, and their grape juice Mosto - it's enough food to feel full and experience traditional Spanish flavors.

I ordered the Oxtail (Rabo de Toro) and wooooow... easily one of the most tender and delicate pieces of meat I've EVER had. They serve it boneless, but I'm pretty sure if they would have provided a bone, it would've fallen right off. The whole place gives cozy tavern vibes with a rustic interior that feels perfectly Madrid. NOTE: the portions are a bit heavier than most spots. I hate to waste food, especially when it's as immaculate as the Oxtail, but if you're a party of one, you got to do what you go to do.

The quality of the food has remained consistent for the 10 years I've been visiting! Tucked away just off Sol, Malaespina is the epitome of a classic Madrid taverna. The inviting, unpretentious atmosphere, the cozy charm, the prices, the energy -- it's hard to capture it all in words. There's a certain magic at Malaespina.
