We decided to go hiking, but by the time we arrived it was too late and there was no parking, so we ended up driving up Hwy 2 instead. I'd heard this place had outdoor seating with a view, so we figured it would be a good spot to stop with our dog. Parking can definitely be a challenge, but we eventually found a spot and walked up. My husband took our dog to the pet area, which has a nice walkable path and plenty of trees to sniff. Dog approved. There was a decent line, but honestly there were plenty of things to look at while waiting. Two people ahead of me even bought souvenir sweatshirts and T‑shirts. The service was incredibly friendly--the barista taking orders was patient and kind. I ordered my husband a latte with a chocolate chip cookie and got myself a coconut latte. I was a little apprehensive because coconut in a latte can easily turn into a sugary mess, but I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor was nicely balanced: good espresso with just a hint of coconut. We enjoyed our drinks at a picnic table in the dog area. Super relaxing. There is also a gazebo for people to enjoy drinks (non dog area). I drove 2+ hours round-trip to ensure that this coffee shop was included in my Seattle adventures and it was worth every minute. I've seen tons of videos of this coffee shop and it looked beautiful, but that unfortunately doesn't always guarantee it will come with delicious coffee. I was so happy that in this case it did! Awesome menu, 13 different kind of milks plus variety of syrups, energy drinks, teas, snacks, souvenirs, you name it. Pull up and park, walk up to the counter and order something and then stroll out to the back and enjoy that epic view. My recommendation is not to miss the blueberry scone. Standing there, enjoying my coffee and that delicious scone while watching the waterfall come off the mountain was absolutely magical. Espresso Chalet is a Bigfoot themed roadside coffee stand that is more than meets the eye. This coffee shop features a tall wooden carving of Bigfoot, which is hard to miss even when driving by at high speed. This shop offers stunning views of Mt. Index and is surrounded by lush evergreen forests from their seating areas. This has been on my local bucket list of stops and I'm glad I finally made the trek. Aside from coffee, they also offers a variety of pastries and snacks. They have a decent amount of Bigfoot themed souvenirs. Definitely kitschy and I had a lot of fun perusing through their displays. The main attraction is the view from their gazebo. It was calming to listen to the raindrops, sip my 20oz. Americano, and enjoy a view of the mountains and forests. There are various seating areas throughout the grounds and some are uncovered. This shop also has a coffee drive thru for anyone is in a hurry. Service was friendly and prompt. I came here before heading into my hike with a friend to get a sweet little treat. We got two matcha lattes as shown in the photo after waiting about 30 minutes and frankly it was sadly disappointing. The matcha tasted so watered down and just not pleasant at all. That said, the prices were very, very cheap. I'm happy I didn't have to pay that much for such a distasteful drink but at the same time, if you're going to have a drink featured on the menu then at least make it right? Service is kind of slow, you order your drink, and then they make it, and then you pay for it. The only upside of this place is the cute merchandise and the amazing scenery. I just got a 16 oz honey latte, the flavor was perfect and not too sweet. The service was very friendly, there were two girls working who both were asking about our trip and what we had been up to. The views from the coffee shop are what this location is known for and they are incredible. You can see Mt. Index from the back porch with Bridal Veil falls cascading down the rock faces. If you're on Instagram, there is a good chance you've seen an influencer or two post about Espresso Chalet. I've passed it for YEARS on the way up to Leavenworth and didn't realize what a hidden gem it was! It's very themed to the nines, centered around Sasquatch and the old movie Harry and The Hendersons (a good watch!) Overall very PNW. The coffee is also solid. I've had it a couple times in the past and this past weekend my bridesmaids stopped here to get me a coffee and it was delicious! The showstopper here is the view. It doesn't look like it from the street, but they have a ton of seating in the back with views of Mt Index. It is the perfect place to stop on your drive to get some fresh air and stretch your legs outside of the car. TLDR; don't miss out on stopping at Espresso Chalet. Lived in this area my entire life and this coffee shop has always been a lovely stop and attraction. Unfortunately, the last few several times I've been here in probably 3-4 months the workers have been extremely rude- eye rolling, catty attitude. With that, the coffee also isn't great :( consistently tastes watered down and flavorless. it is very cheap which matches its value. Today I asked the barista to remake my drink because it tasted watered down and I wasn't happy with it. She insisted that she made it correctly and that I ordered my drink wrong and because she didn't understand my complaint I would have to pay for a new one. I decided to leave and was pretty disappointed. I make this order often at surrounding areas and never have a problem with it. At that point I should have probably known to leave. If you are looking for a nice tourist spot to roam around and feel the Washington esque you might want to come here for the novelty at least once. Tourist-y Bigfoot kitsch and gifts which are cute but the staff are always rude and the options for a hot breakfast sandwich is a refrigerated bagel that, "I guess you can heat up in the microwave" - I don't know - it just seems short sited considering how cold and dark it is out here more often than not. This place is so cute and I love the theme! The view is immaculate, came here on a foggy day but could still see some of the mountains! The baristas were very kind and we got our drinks pretty quick. I got a 12oz pumpkin spice latte ($3.50) and my bf got a 16oz hot chocolate ($3.25). Both drinks were delicious and kept us warm on a rainy day. They also have a gift shop, pastries and other snacks. What a fun stop on the way to Leavenworth! My friend and I needed to clear our heads, so we made the journey east. This is probably the only espresso options for 10 miles or so. Ambiance- so many tourists there getting their caffeine cravings and opportunity to stretch. There's a pretty nice view of the waterfall and there's cute seating. Some people brought their dogs because it's almost like they have a backyard with a good amount of grass for the pups to run. The cafe itself is adorable, though some space heaters in winter would go a long way towards enjoying your coffee with an incredible winter mountain view. The mediocre: the coffee itself aint gonna win any awards. It tastes generic, just above gas station quality. It'll warm you up on a cold drive though, and still worth stopping for the views and just because of how cute the cafe is overall. The awful: the chocolate bonbons they sell. Skip those. Found this place via a video on Instagram and had to add it to my bucket list, and as luck would have it we were going to pass by on our way to Leavenworth. So, the stars aligned and we stopped - so glad we did! Some things are worth the hype. The coffee itself is standard, but they have lots of flavor/combos to make it something special, and the staff is so friendly. This is probably my worst carbon footprint to drive from Shoreline to Index via Highways 522 and 2 just for a mocha, lol (9/21/23). Actually this had been bookmarked for awhile for this first visit to Espresso Chalet and see the alpine view. After the congestion from Monroe to Sultan, it becomes a more pleasant drive heading east towards this distinct detour. Bearable traffic and road construction slowdowns, no inclement weather, and no wildfire closures. This is not your average coffee stand. It is definitely kitschy, notable from the film "Harry and the Hendersons", and has a vast selection of merch. Capitalism and tourist magnet at its best. There are various seating available on the adjacent grounds behind the coffee stand to take in the amazing view. This would be personally a three star spot, but the extra star is for the welcoming young woman/barista who made a spot on 16 oz mocha, with tax/tip $5. Espresso Chalet uses Longbottom coffee beans from Hillsboro, OR, established in 1981. Espresso Chalet is a coffee shop that you can find off of Route 2, and you can't miss it with the huge Big Foot statue that's located out on the front. I think that's how they lure in individuals! The menu is a bit confusing, so it's best to just tell the owner/barista what exactly you're in the mood for, and he'll let you know if he can make it for you or not. There aren't any 'specials' of the day, so you'd have to ask for that, too. I ended up getting a white chocolate raspberry latte, which was slightly grainy, but I liked that it was piping hot; the white chocolate and the raspberry syrups that were used actually tasted good and didn't taste artificial; the latte was slightly creamy, too. There are also some packaged snacks, nuts, and some pastries, but the pastries didn't seem fresh and looked like it has been in the case for a while. Or, the case may need a good wipedown - either way, these were avoided. The owner/barista is a little rude, so some may be put off by his personality and unnecessary sarcasm. After seeing so many great videos about this place online and living down the road, I had just wanted 1 good experience. I came here for the 1st time last year and was given a very watered down Italian soda made by a very impatient and sarcastic older woman. Came here again for the 2nd time today and an old man with grey hair and glasses was working the drive thru side and had the worst attitude. He was very impatient and absolutely ruined my last experience of coming here. My bf and I pulled up and I had seen they had shakes on their menu and started to order. He then tells me they haven't made shakes there in years and I was confused as it was clearly on their menu in bold. He rudely tells me that it says "NA" right next to it and already started closing the window and I say "Ok sorry just another second please". (If it's been years of not serving a type of drink I recommend simply taking it off the menu entirely..) So I turn to ask my bf what flavor Italian soda he'd like and the old man rudely interrupts us and quickly says "So are we done here??!" With such a rude attitude, I was taken aback. They maybe had a line of 3 people on the other side but had multiple people working inside the booth. He seemed to be overwhelmed and having a terrible day. Since the windows were almost closed on me anyways I told him I don't need anything anymore and he slammed them shut and walked away further inside. I just give up with this place. They also have a lot of cool shirts and sweatshirts relating to big foot and Harry and the Hendersons. I bought a book that was written by a local author and I started to read it and it even talks about the Chalet having the best coffee ever in the book. Highly recommend buying this book and reading it! It's called The Deep Panic by Lisa Stowe. The atmosphere and the small town feel makes me want to go out and look for the elusive Bigfoot!
