Reasonable prices for food and wine. Vegan and non vegan friendly. Delicious meals. A little off the beaten path, just below the church.

Great pizza, pasta, and wine. Best food we've had in three days we've been here. Rodrigo was very nice and can speak good English.

“Try the Esteva Douro (excellent red wine, a bottle will only set you back 11 €,) the truffle and mushroom pizza (with vegan cheese,) and the spaghetti with garlic and sundried tomatoes.”

We explored this old neighbourhood after visiting the castle and built up quite the appetite. Luckily, a local friend recommended we stop in at Santo Antonio. It was early so the place didn't have a line up, but it can apparently get quite busy. The restaurant itself is beautiful in an old nostalgic kind of way. Like every Portuguese restaurant, they started by bringing us bread and a few snacks before we could even order (note: these are not free despite the fact that you have not ordered them). But we were hungry and he snacks were good, so no complaints. We ordered a few local specialties, including a salad, fish and garbanzo beans, fried eggplant and potatoes. All were very simple, fresh and nice. We also tried green wine for the first time here, which was a success. Overall, the food was good and authentic and the setting was very nice. Plus as an added bonus, there's an older woman who lives next door who apparently makes an appearance on most nights, as she screams at her senile dog to get in the house - for a little touch of local colour and entertainment!

Even at lunch, the space was packed with diners, so take this as your sign to reserve ahead and arrive early! It's an intimate, cozy spot where you'll sit close to neighboring tables, which only adds to the vibrant energy. This easily locked itself in as one of the best dining experiences of our trip. From our seats, we could watch the kitchen team carefully craft every single dish. The standout was the octopus with potatoes infused with a brilliant garlic flavor and topped with perfectly crisp sliced garlic. The chicken thighs were incredibly tender, falling off the bone and smothered in a rich, robust black pepper sauce. For the perfect opener, do not skip the aubergine, it's wonderfully light and a great way to prime your palate. A mandatory stop for anyone visiting Lisbon!

This location is right by train station so make sure you get that right. We tried all the starters, all the desserts, and 4 mains (Pork Belly, Pork Cheek, Beef cheek, and Bacalhau a bras). The winners are: 1) The olives 2) Pork Belly with orange Salad 3) Beef Cheek 4) Chocolate Mousee The Bacalhou a bras tasted like tuna helper, it was a miss for us, and we love seafood, we were just 4 straight days of it so we looked at other things here. If you get the bread starter, get the cheese starter also to put on the bread. Otherwise skip both. People rave about the Pork Cheek, but we all thought it was mid. Beef cheek with the sweet potato mash was far superior. Pork Belly with Orange salad was best main hands down. would have like to try a couple other things, but this was more food than we needed for 4 people. The food comes out as its ready. And each main is sharable, which I would recommend, or you'll just be sitting waiting and letting food get cold. The portugese pudding has pig fat in it, so it has a bit of a baconish taste, its slight, but its enough its a bit weird for me. The creme brulee was okay, but the mousee was the best for sure. Te aproveche!
