Stopped by to grab some breakfast during our last day in Lisbon. The atmosphere was really cozy and chill. Chai - tasted like milk. Had no chai flavor at all. Dirty chai - tasted like milk with a splash of coffee. Also had no chai flavor at all. Maybe they don't know how to make chai because no one really orders it? Paris - using sourdough for French Toast was interesting. It definitely made it less sweet. It also comes with a side of fruit. We stopped by here after Alfama for a latte and washroom break before heading off to Baixa. The interior of the cafe is a large open space with couches, high tables, and tables for you to choose - perfect for lounging/brunch crowds. There are books that lined the sides of the cafe. The latte is quite a large size (16oz) for EUR2.70. A little high on the cost but it is creamy, foamy and quite nice. We noticed fellow patron's meals are large in portions. Service is decent. The staff were attentive and made sure we were helped. Overall, not a bad place to be if you want a drink, chill, or have brunch. read more

I found this cafe in Alfama while looking for a place to plant it, get a cuppa, and wait for a friend. On all three counts, it was a great find. The inside has a very authentic feel. I say that because I've seen other cafes in the world that have a similar look, but it's obviously curated. This one does not have that commercialized hipster feel--all authentic. Love that part. The coffee I had was very tasty. I also had a yogurt with honey on it. Equally delicious. Everything was surprisingly cheap, in my opinion. For a tea, a coffee, and yogurt, I think I paid 5EUR. Score. The service was a bit spotty. One of the guys seemed to have considered himself rather charming and funny, but in reality, he was rather annoying. Really cool ambiance here... food was very crisp and fresh and the staff was pleasant! I had a mochachino & pastry that was delightful. My wife enjoyed her salad and sandwich with soup. Located in the Alfama area of Lisbon, Pois Cafe was a great oasis tucked along the side street. It's a very cozy and hipster feel which is lovely! You can sit anywhere you like amongst the various shared tables and couches. Food has decent portions and comes with a nice side salad. My sister and I stopped by for fresh fruit juice and a cheese plate. The fruit juice (yellow watermelon & pineapple) was delicious! The cheese plate was different than expected, more of a bread and dip, but still good! I think it was a chive,dill and red pepper mix of cheese dip. We stumbled upon this cafe by chance after rejecting the river front tourist dining due to their high prices. Pois cafe is charming and cozy with delicious food options consisting primarily of sandwiches and salads. They have some communal seating plus cozy couches and individual tables and you order directly from a waiter. The art on their walls is pretty awesome and the concept is slightly unique for Lisbon. We loved relaxing here for a little bit and they have free wifi! read more

Great spot to take a break when you've been walking up and down the hills of Lisbon for quite a bit. This café is not far from the cathedral so I imagine they get quite a bit of tourist traffic. Had some coffee and cakes. The cake was delicious! Loved the chill vibe as well. read more

Spent my day adventuring through the Alfama district of Lisbon (which is the best part of the city in my opinion) & found this beauty of a cafe! The vibe is so relaxed. I've just sat & dwelled, reading and writing. And also slightly hoping somebody will sit down and play cards or chess with me! They have community tables and board games so it's super easy and fun to meat others! They have books everywhere. The food is fresh! One of the only places I have found hummus in Lisbon! This a wonderful cafe to take a break while exploring Alfama. They have stellar service and the sitting area is absolutely beautiful. There's a lot of space to lounge around/read a book/talk. And their interior is a cohesive assortment of eclectic pieces! Foodwise, they have a great selection of cakes and sandwiches. I would say their coffee quality is on par with most cafes in Lisbon. Our waiter brought the wrong order to our table for one member of our party and then did not return with the proper dish for 30 minutes, and even then only after we were compelled to verbally confront him about his level of incompetence. Our salads were mediocre with the promised arugula missing and replaced by some soggy greens. In summary the service stinks and the food isn't much better. You could do better by simply opening your restaurant search app, closing your eyes and randomly picking any other place in this beautiful city. If you want a break from the tapas, or just want a break in general with an eclectic but homey atmosphere, this is where you want to go. Not only do they have books to peruse through here, but you can have your cake and eat it too! No but really, their cakes are delicious. Depending on time of day and availability, it's hard to go wrong with any of them. I tried their chocolate cake and their chestnut cake, both flavorful and rich. Wanting something savory? I dig their soup - lentil was all they had left but it was one of the best I've had. Grab yourself a cup o' joe as well, or a panini that's filled with fresh ingredients. Overall, great place to lounge, chat, read, or eat. Or all of them at the same time. My last time there was more than 2 years ago (I turned into an expat meanwhile) and I was amazed by this place. Back then, it was a new style in Lisbon: cozy, trendy, hipster even, where ppl would share a big table with unknown customers and have brunches. - Apparently, nothing has changed! Thanks god this trend grew in Portugal but this place is still really nice. -The location is tricky but for sure you'll feel like a local! -Staff was foreign back then and nice -Prices were ok for the "new thing" -Food was good, with good and sweet cakes, small menus of brunch and main dishes -Great for kids, specially on a sunday morning My favorite thing, besides being a different place, was the location: you can run away from the crowds and enjoy the typical streets and hills of Lisbon. read more

Wonderful space and atmosphere can be found here. The soup I tried (can't quite remember what flavour it was), was under seasoned, but I suppose better that you can add your own seasoning. Really good relaxed cafe in the warren of streets that make up the Alfama district. A completely informal vibe makes this a cafe to spend time in and enjoy the good food. The decor is modern and includes sofas, easy chairs, stools and big tables to share. Music was good as well nothing cheesy here! I can't really comment on the menu apart from the smoked salmon sandwich with salad that I had but the salad was dressed well, really crunchy and tasty as well as a sandwich which had good flavour and a generous amount of cream cheese with it. I would recommend this cafe as a step away from the tourist cafes and more in tune with the more genuine Lisbon. read more

The food was decent but I was most impressed by the atmosphere (laid back, lots of space for relaxing or working, and even board games to play) and their elderflower lemonade! Pois is located in a beautiful part of town, near the Cathedral Se, and I visited this spot for my lemonade fix every day during my visit (I had rented an apartment across the street). Pois café is an adorably quirky spot in an adorably quirky neighborhood in Alfama, and provides a nice respite from the hearty and heavy Portuguese meals that we were eating during our trip. In addition to tourists from around the world, the café seemed to provide a nice gathering spot for young, hip locals in the area as well. This was the first meal I had upon arrival to Portugal so needless to say, I was famished from the long flight, but I still stand by the freshness, taste & quality of food I got at Pois Cafe! I ordered a pear salad with nuts and two generous slices of baguette with melted cheese came with it and I also ordered chive scrambled eggs and a coffee. It is so fresh and good in a really cozy atmosphere - a true neighborhood restaurant! And our server was very friendly and was able to adapt as we only speak English. Yes, a cool place to stop by and grab something to drink or eat. We went there for a small lunch and the food was great: fresh soup and a light tasty lambs burger with veggies, finishing with a nice pica. The atmosphere of this place is enjoyable and relaxed. It feels like a place to de-stress :-) There is no outside sitting facility, but when the huge entrance doors are open, you will have an outside experience fmor te inside. Since it is more or less along the route of tram 28, I guess there will be tourist clients as well. read more
