We did the Mob Boss room, and it did NOT disappoint. It was just the two of us because the rooms are private, and I actually loved that. We were able to work together, figure out our individual strengths, and tackle the clues as a team. And guess what? WE ESCAPED! We had a few clues along the way, but we ended up solving the room with just under TWO MINUTES left on the clock! Talk about cutting it close! We were so proud of ourselves when we got out. Molly was the staff member who helped us get checked in, sign the waivers, and get everything set up. She was friendly and helpful and made the whole process easy. And they don't just send you on your way after you escape. They have props available for pictures, and Molly took some photos of us afterward. It was such a cute way to remember the experience. My sister had so much fun that she immediately wanted to do ANOTHER escape room. Unfortunately, they didn't have another opening that day, but they did give us information about rebooking and a discount for coming back. I also really appreciated that they offer discounts for first responders. My sister is an officer, so that's an especially nice perk. There are several escape-room options in the Frederick area, but I'm really glad this is the one we chose. It was fun, challenging without being frustrating, and a great experience for both a first-timer and someone who's done escape rooms before. First National Escape was more than an escape room, it was an escape experience. It starts as soon…read moreas you walk into the building, with the game taking place in an actual bank and vault with over 100 years of history. The structure itself is the biggest character in the game, but one that you must not overlook. Then you are warmly greeted by Steve and Anna, the owners and restorers of the building and creators of the game. They take you into the board room for your overview, instructions and intro video. When that is finished, you are led into the area of the bank that has the game. The game itself is rather simple, but how you do it is fun. Your goal is to break into the vault, steal the contents, then get to the teller line to make a deposit. You need to interact with the staff during the game, and the staff plays each part in character. That was really cool and very fun. We had our kids play along and they did a great job. When the game is over, Steve gives you a tour of the building and points out some of the historic items that they found. The history of the bank goes back to the 1800s and it is just so amazing to see these elements preserved. Steve and Anna clearly are very much "invested" in the game and your entire experience. This type of dedication not only to the escape game industry but to history itself is a huge part of why this game was a very unique experience for this enthusiast. We had a lot of fun and were glad that we had the opportunity to play First National Escape.

Our puzzle master, Jamie, did a great job of explaining the process before we got started, and I do appreciate that the door is unlocked so you can come and go as needed (didn't have to, but I remember when that wasn't the case!). We did the Witch's Cauldron, which was a really fun room to work with. Of course without giving anything away, everything was pretty clear in terms of what was next, and clues came way in handy when we asked for them, which was easily done by just saying so while looking at a camera. I think this was their newest room, but the first one I'd been to. I thought it was really well done, and everyone was engaged throughout. I especially prefer the rooms where there's a lot that needs to be done, so people can split up doing stuff rather than everyone crowding around one puzzle. I'd love to try another room there sometime!

The rooms are $32 per person (no discounts for children or weekday pricing), and with tax the total price for the three of us was $102.36. David was our game master and did a great job of explaining everything to us before we started and quickly feeding us clues during the game when we asked. We did the Egyptian Tomb: Imhotep's Curse because it felt the most like we were in Indiana Jones. I wish we had known there were actually two rooms, so that I might have budgeted my time better and asked for clues a little sooner. Alas, we did not escape the room(s), but it was still a great experience and it was all very well designed. I think we are all itching to come back for redemption, so we'll definitely return and give one of the other rooms a shot.

However, we found off street parking right in front of the store which was not a big deal. Our booking time was Sunday at 5pm so the traffic was light. Upon arrival we were greeted by our game master Jessie who explained the house rules of the escape room we selected. We chose "The Precinct" and it was challenging, but we were able to escape. It took us about 60-70 Minutes to escape for a family of four. Without giving too much away there lots of clues that involved math so you have to make sure your math is on point. You have unlimited hints and I think we used about 5 or 6 of them. They will give you a 10 minute warning so use your time wisely. Overall, the room is challenging I think I group of 6 people is the right balance to solved the room given the 1 hour time frame. If you are in area and have time to an hour to spare give them a try. Online booking is the best way to go.

On a Friday afternoon, I booked their largest zipline experience with seven ziplines and three skybridges. Two guides- Kelly and Kayla- went along with me. Both were very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Since it was just the three of us and I'm an experience zipliner, the entire course was an hour. Each zipline was fun, scenic, and allowed us to do tricks like going upside down. If it's your first time, this spot is great! The guides are very patient with all and make ziplining fun!
