There were five of us and we did two rooms and the first room (Sorcerer) we kept getting told everything was "finicky" to the point that the game master had to actually progress the puzzle because it wasn't working for us. The other "finicky" part of the room we had to be told exactly which way certain things had to line up to make the game move forward. The second room (Murder Mystery) we did, although better, had to have a game master come in partway through because something was activated that shouldn't have been that we were told "distracted" us from the gameplay we should have been doing. I expressed my frustration to our game master after the first room and the only response was, "I'm sorry that was your experience but we hope you had a little bit of fun anyway." Five people, two rooms, $320 absolutely wasted.

In fact we will probably come back here to do another room and we wouldn't bother if it had not been for how friendly the staff is, especially (but not exclusively) someone named Jack. Seriously, whomever owns/runs this place, take note: you need to give this man a raise, because without him and the other people working there, we would never come back. We did the horror/spooky themed room "The Estate" which is fairly high tech in many ways. Lots of really cool digital effects, in theory a very well designed room. Unfortunately our *very first* two puzzles did not function properly. One of the very first doors that is meant to spring open didn't do so; it popped open a crack but we couldn't pull it open easily and given the rules to never force things open, we didn't want to pull it HARD, which it turns out we should have. Also, after solving the very first puzzle, a door that was supposed to spring open did not do so. They have a rule that you cannot ask for a hint for the first ten minutes, so for ten minutes we milled around feeling stupid until we finally asked for a clue that literally spelled out how to solve the next major puzzle - and when we did, a door opened with a prop hidden inside that had *the way to solve the puzzle we just solved* written inside of it. So that was pretty damned frustrating. Certain other things were a bit off here and there, but the deisgn and concept were very immersive so ultimately we let it go and as a duo of only two we managed to finish with ten minutes left (but it would have been more if we hadn't wasted the first ten.) If this place could get it's sh*t together to not have broken puzzles/doors/portions, they'd probably avoid these negative reviews. My advice: come here, give it a try, but say to your gamemaster before you start "I have read some recent reviews saying that some puzzles and traps are having problems. Can you please be very attentive during our experience and make sure nothing goes wrong, and if it does, help to correct it quickly?"

The staff sends you reminders once you book, the closer you get to your reservation window. COVID-19 precautions are practiced here. All of the equipment is sterilized, after use. So its clean when it's your turn to put the gear on. Since the VR goggles are worn on your face, you are given a disposable mask to put on that sits between your VR goggles and your face. The goggles never touch your face. There are several choices of games to pick from. Ranging from Easy to Hard. My wife and I had never played VR type games before. Some are more cognitive and puzzle-based, while others test strength, balance, dexterity, coordination, communication, or just how well you can function under pressure lol. You get the directions on a screen outside each room, then scan your wristband to get in and start the challenge. Your wristband gives you an hour, but the time actually counts while you're inside the rooms, so you can move around and pick what you want to try. I definitely recommend looking around first because there are SO many different things. My favorites were the Floor Is Lava game with the ropes in the middle and the pipe-balancing challenge. There was also this giant bouncy ball room where you have to hit all the buttons, which was WAY more fun than it sounds. Obviously I loved the game where you have to hit the blue dots on the ground while making sure the red doesn't touch you. It's basically the Floor Is Lava concept that they advertise everywhere, and yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype. Give me a giant interactive floor and tell me not to touch something and apparently I'm five years old again. There were also some genuinely funny puzzle games, a mini escape-room-style challenge, and a bunch of other rooms that I didn't even get enough time to try. That's honestly my only complaint: I ran out of time before I could do everything I wanted. And the STAFF. 10/10. Seriously. We were there toward the end of the day and ended up running out of time. The staff member working with us found out it was our first time there and actually unlocked the advertised run-and-jump game so we could try it before leaving. He absolutely did not have to do that, and I really appreciated it. I don't know if he was the manager or owner, but whoever he was, he was AWESOME. He was incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed to want us to have a good experience rather than just watching the clock and sending us out the door. That kind of customer service makes such a difference, especially at an activity where you're already trying to figure out how everything works for the first time. The manager on duty, Ian did not stop trying to help find this birthday card. We finally gave up after searching everywhere and as we were walking out out of the door a mother and son was having a birthday party also. My son's friends played a joke on him and gave him a girl's birthday card., so the other birthday boy was like this is not mine. The manager ran out after us and told us he found the card! We all do escape rooms regularly, including the kids. We've only not made it out of maybe one or two escape rooms so this is right up our alley. We booked in advance and didn't have to wait long like others have stated, so that was great. It was pretty empty for a weekend afternoon. There was one birthday party going on. A lot of employees hanging out but not surprised because it wasn't busy. Our game hostess was fine. Just told us that the screens would tell us what to do and don't move to the next room until the room you're in tells you to (because there was a party in front of us). Also the doors aren't locked so feel free to leave anytime, but the clock won't stop. She also told us to take absolutely everything on us and put it in a locker. Told us she "highly recommended" that we took nothing with us in the game rooms. Again, really common for escape rooms because they don't want you to give it away or take photos. Made sense. It took us at least two tries on each game in each room to understand what we were supposed to do, which wasted time. The instructions weren't amazing, but we figured it was supposed to be hard so didn't think that was complaint-worthy initially. Got to level 8 or so on most rooms, not much higher. Nothing to compare it to since there's nothing like this near us. Screen kept saying we were doing "alright". The room we thought we did the best in said we did "abysmal". Eh, okay, all part of the gag we thought. Maybe no one gets "great" or "nice work". Then we got to the laser room where things went downhill. The screens were supposed to let you switch the laser pattern, but only one screen on one side worked. We did our best and still tried to make the best of it. All in the name of having fun for my son's bday. At the end of the laser room a 10 minute countdown started and a voice said "feel free to take photos while you wait for the next room", which would have been amazing if we weren't encouraged to put them in a locker at the start of the games!!! Waiting for the bomb (foam) in the hallway and are the only team on the screen that chose foam when our team's name disappears from the list. The team in front of us goes ahead and I notice our team name is on their video screen and they are playing as us with our remaining bomb time. And they are going to get foam, not what they actually chose. I flag down a worker and he starts running around to his coworkers who are all chuckling at the mistake, not sincerely worried at all about giving the team already in the bomb room the wrong experience or the wrong amount of time. They got foam - and I don't think they got to do it again. I would not have been happy, but that's up to them to talk to the staff about. The worker then tells us he THINKS he can get us the foam we asked for but that he doesn't know how much time we had on the bomb, so we needed to give him a number. He also says we might have to email for our photos/video since the team before us will be attached to our team name. He tells us that his coworker was supposed to check the team's bands before us to confirm who they were and their bomb type, but forgot. Meantime, the workers behind him continue to be completely unconcerned and are chatting and laughing about it, hanging out, no big deal. No apologies, no concern over the screw up. That was disappointing. We get into our bomb room and everything is covered in slime including the controllers we need to use. We get our controllers and the whole thing shuts down. Computer .exe error. They get it back up and running pretty quickly and we realize as we start to play that at least two of the controllers aren't doing anything. Foam starts to come out before the bomb even goes off and at least one mask fails and we can't even see to finish the game (we were at five completed when this started). I ended up having to just take off my mask and turn around because foam is covering my mouth and I can't breathe. Photos and videos are terrible and we got someone else's video because they went under our team name. I hope they got their stuff eventually! The manager fixed it to our satisfaction, which is why I'm giving it three stars. He asked if we were staying to do other games, but didn't even know that was included or an option, so better communication too would have been great. I wish we could go back and try again to give it another chance, but there isn't one within four states of us. Hoping everyone else has a good experience because this could be amazing! We found another fun experience to finish the birthday and honestly believe you should give this a chance. Leaving this review more for the manager and staff so they know where it all went wrong.

So after a day of seeing his grave and at the museum of the American Revolution we did this Ben Franklin themed room. And it was AWESOME. To be fair, I like a room that lets you wander around instead of forcing you down a path...and I like a room you get rewarded for looking at random things instead of having everything spelled out for you. I also like a room that has a lot of spaces that don't do anything. And this room had all of that. We ended up not needing any clues but got REALLY close to being stuck a few times. It just felt like a really good payoff for the puzzles in this room and a very cool story.

Once inside, look for them in the name of the tenants and ring it like a doorbell. That felt like step 1 of the test. Once inside we were all in their lobby and encouraged to use the restroom before we get started. Our game master was awesome. I blame the Sangria. I wish I remembered his name! He was super fun and engaging throughout the experience. This is an escape room so I don't want to give anything away so I'll try to stay high level. Since we were in Philadelphia we decided to do something historic themed. We did their "A Quest for Freedom" escape room where you explore Benjamin Franklin's study and operate his print shop on a mission to help the American Revolution. Each clue or item is used only once, so be sure to track what you have used or what you have not used, cause it would mean you still need to use it. My team and I had a blast and I definitely feel closer to them after successfully escaping together. We might have been sharper and solved the clue faster if we came here before dinner and drinks... Lessons Learned for next time.
