She said I made her nervous, I was nervous, but my nails turned out really nice. I admit, I'm a little hard to please perfectionist, but I actually love them. Something about coffin shape on my nails. Looks so good. I showed her a picture of the ombre and glitter. It came out just like I wanted. She's very experienced, soft-spoken, gentle, and professional. She continuously asked if everything was okay the whole time. Helen services include acrylic, gel, and SNS dip. I love this salon. It's a standard nail salon setup with friendly staff who do excellent work. They use quality brands and products that provide long lasting manicures and pedicures. I'm not excessively gentle in acrylics and I have been so pleased with the service and quality of nails I'm getting here. I haven't gotten anything fancy or highly difficult art so I cannot speak to that. But I definitely recommend this as a staple or stop in nail salon. read more

Lots of dip color options. Didn't expect to pay $65 just for basic dip though. My tech caused lots of knicks along my nail bed, definitely a more painful than relaxing experience. My first and last time here - I asked for a regular pedicure and a gel manicure with the same color. My pedicure color was fine but then when he did my hands, the color was significantly brighter but he insisted it was the same & would get darker, finally at the end I showed him how different the colors were & he just tried to paint over it vs starting over. At the end, clearly still different colors but lost cause in arguing with him at this point. He then tried to charge me for the Royal pedicure when I asked for the basic & he said I picked a scrub but I didn't know the scrub wasn't included in the basic! I got SNS and it was pretty great! I walked in and waited like 3 minutes before I was taken to get my nails done which is super groovy. My friend came with me and she was doing acrylic (which they have a separate room for-- kinda weird). But they let us sit together! I have gone here for 7 years. They raised their prices and I was fine with that. I understand Covid hit everyone hard. What I am not fine with is Brian. He is awful. $44 for a basic pedicure and he didn't even cut the cuticles around my toes. Worst pedicure I have ever had in my 24 years of getting pedicures. I am not very picky but had a terrible experience at escape. My SNS manicure was $70, pretty steep for this area, so I was expecting a decent manicure. The technician was very nice, but seemed like he had never done a manicure before. He overcut my cuticles multiple times and did not apply the dip evenly. Great experience with Matt. Bad experience with Brian. First, the positives: I love that this salon takes walk-ins and it's one of the few places that is open on Sundays. It's clean and there are lots of technicians. I haven't had to wait either time I've come . They also take debit/credits cards and have an ATM, which I appreciate. I came in for the first time three weeks ago and got a gel manicure and regular polish pedicure. Matt did a GREAT job. My shellac/gel mani lasted for three weeks. It was just starting to chip/peel and, as I am a fairly active person, three weeks is great for me. Five stars, Matt! He even stayed after 6pm (closing time) to do my hands for me, which I appreciated. I believe the bill was $75, not including tip, so a little pricey...but it is what it is. I was NOT HAPPY with this second trip and am writing this review because I don't think the manager took my complaint very seriously. I needed to get my gel polish removed. Everything was going fine. Brian removed my nail polish (wrapped my nails in a soaked cotton ball and foil, and then peeled off the gel as needed.) He was going quickly and it seemed like Brian was just going to start painting my nails right after removing the gel. He didn't file them or try to clean up the nails...so I let him know I wanted my nails shortened. He grabs large finger nail clippers and CHOPS MY NAILS OFF. Completely. There is maybe a millimeter of nail left before the nail bed. I didn't think that "shorten" meant clip off. He had already clipped my pinkie so I didn't really have a choice but to have kindergarten length nails. He should have asked me what length I wanted them and then clarified before he cut them. When I commented that they were short he told me that he likes his nails short.... Excuse me, I am the customer! I should have been asked. It doesn't matter that I was only paying $20/$25 for a service. I am still the customer and he should have made sure I was happy with the length and look. Definitely frustrating as it takes my nails a while to grow. Not sure if I will be returning to this salon. If I do, Brian will NOT be touching my hands. Hopefully the manager takes this review more seriously. I read several poor reviews about Brian. He is hurting the salon's reputation. read more

Escape nails and spa is always underwhelming. On Tuesday at 5pm I walked in and asked if they had space to service me. I was told yes, but was then seated with a bowl of acetone by myself for 40 minutes. While I appreciate them taking me as a walk in, I would have been more satisfied if they had just been honest and told me it would be a 40 minute wait. I then asked for a shiny clear coat, and below are the results. This cost me $28 dollars. I had to pay in the middle of the service, before my nails were painted, so I gave a large tip because the tech was doing well. However, immediately after I gave him the tip, he began to rush me. For what I had done, I am very unsatisfied. I will not be returning. One star because my arm massage was satisfactory, but definitely not worth the cost or the wait. read more

I have been going to Escape for several years now after I admired a manicure that my neighbor got done there when they first opened. (In my opinion, these folks are several steps above in quality and experience of the nearby competitor that has umpteen different locations and counting.) Escape also accommodates private parties later in the evening, and all of my club members loved their services for the events that we've had there. Do not spend any time worrying about a couple people that have left reviews below 5 stars. I've never had anything but a great experience here. If you want something done a bit differently (ex. nail length, shape, etc) just ask! They are happy to accommodate. (Ex. I'm not into the cheese grater exfoliate for the pedicure that most people like, so I just ask for the pumice stone.) In the probably 100+ services that I've had here over the years, almost all have been perfect. In the rare event that you have an issue with a nail or manicure, just talk to them about it and they are happy to make it right. Vince, who I believe is the Manager, is very professional and pleasant. Things are clean, hygienic, and relaxing. They have wonderful massaging pedicure chairs that you can sit in to let your manicure or pedicure dry if you ask. Not the best experience. For $100 for a gel mani/pedi I expected a lot more. I got these done on Friday night, and this is how they look on Tuesday. I was one of the last ones there, so she did my nails while he was finishing up my feet. As she went to put the polish on, I checked my cuticles and they were a mess, so I asked her to take another look. She made a few more snips here and there but they still weren't great. I was really satisfied with Escape Nail & Spa. I popped in the other Saturday to get a quick shellac manicure without knowing much about the place. I was blown away by the size! They were able to take my appointment immediately, and everyone that walked in after me was also seated and taken care of on the spot as well. They had a huge staff, and two rooms chalk full of chairs. I was so impressed by the amount of people that were getting their nails done at one time! This is not your normal strip-mall nail spa. My manicurist was amazing. She was really friendly, helped me pick out colors, took me through the process, and did a really good job on my nails. The price is cheaper than other places in Hyde Park and you get a 10% discount by paying in cash. I asked my technician for tip and extensions and was met with her comment of, "your natural nail is long enough" and proceeds to put on the dip without the tips. While I've had a few shaky pedicures, they've always done well with my nails so I rode it out. However, after COVID they have gone down hill. They increased their prices and decreased customer service. After waiting for nearly 10 minutes for a service the manager, a man, walked up and said he couldn't take me. When I expressed that I had been waiting and that I'm a loyal customer he said he didn't care, he had no room. Out of frustration I shared that I wouldn't be coming back. He then yelled at me, having everyone turn their heads and look, he didn't care and that he was "not going to beg me for my service." Easy to say after I've spent 2 years worth of loyalty.
