The absolutely awesome part of this nail/tanning salon: it's operated by a family of mom/dad/two daughters. Good for them! I called ahead and the prices seemed fair, $37 for white tip full set. They said come on in and I did- plenty of seats available. When I walked in, it was... Different. No "official" front desk, no sign in sheet. I wasn't quite sure what to do. After a few minutes, they sat me down and got started right away. One of the daughters, maybe 17/18 years old, did my nails. She was very very sweet but the finish product turned out okay. She kept open dialogue with me and seemed genuinely interested in what we were talking about. The mom was working on a gentleman getting a pedicure. I should note, this shop is tiny. 4 manicure tables, 4 pedicure stations and 2 tanning booth. So, you're literally right on top of each other. The mom was the outspoken one, not afraid to voice her opinion on anything; politics, tonight's festival, local food; she was somewhat obnoxious. The sweetest thing was when the youngest daughter, maybe 14, came out and cleaned up the pedicure station. They're raising two nice young ladies! The father was quiet, yet nice. Working on a manicure behind me. Although the shop was small and somewhat dirty, my manicure ended up okay. However, it was a long road to get there. The girl got glue all over my fingers and even got her finger glued to mine! One of my nails looks bubbly underneath the top coat. Since the prices are not any cheaper than anywhere else, next time I'll probably drive a little further to a nicer place. read more

I've been wanting to write this for a while but just now finding the courage after seeing my credit card statement. They tipped themselves $5 extra (on top of a 21% tip). Not to mention, I think they overcharged me to begin with. I should have trusted my gut when I walked in and saw how dirty the shop was- I literally almost walked out as fast as I walked in but my time limit, desperation for fresh nails, and people pleaser tendencies got me as soon as she came out from the back (this is obviously my lesson). Very nice and "well meaning" but she also didn't listen to what I wanted and insisted I "trust her". I've been getting my nails done the same way for yearssss based on the shape of my hands. Trust me, I'm a fan of dramatic nails on other people, but just like I can appreciate certain clothes on people based on their body type, I know what I can pull off. Even the people in my life said my nails were pretty but "not my style". Also, they looked good on the surface to an untrained eye, however I had to pick off chunks of acrylic on the underside. My nails kept snagging on everything! Anyway, I really want to give this place a good review based on her personality but if I want to pay for a service based on personality, I'll go to dinner and a show. I also definitely won't be back due to fear of getting a nail fungus. I don't think they sterilize anything. read more

Star Nails and Tanning is one of the only nail salons in the Mt. Washington area. I have never tanned at this location but I know that they have 2 tanning beds. When I was there getting my nails done the beds were getting used one right after the other and the employees were saying that the beds were 'hot'. They also discussed how they were going to be getting new beds soon! I've had my nails done here several times. A few years ago I had a full acrylic set done for a prom and was very happy with the results. I decided that I didn't like acrylics anyways because of how much they damage your actual nails. They stayed on forever! Today I had them paint my nails with the French tips style. I opted not to get the full manicure as I had little time. The manicurist gave me the option to either have them airbrushed or hand painted and I had him hand paint them for me. He did a pretty good job with it. I've tried myself and failed. There are a few nails that have a slightly uneven line at the tip, but it's barely noticeable. read more

This was a terrible experience. Neither of the workers inside listened to what I wanted. They insisted I get other things then charged me more than my friend who got the same thing. They didn't fill my nails correctly and left tons of extra acrylic and did not clean up my nail beds when finished. I literally had to scrape the excess off with my debit card. The lady trimmed my nails down way to far without even asking until after she done it and it was too late. read more

My sister and I tried this place out to support local business (Mt Washington) and the price was right. They are having a mani/pedi deal for $40 right now. We called ahead but you can pretty much get service right away. It's a small nice place with not much for decor but I'm not really paying for the ambiance, right. The place has three chairs (not massaging but comfy) for the pedi's and the usual spa stuff for your feet and typical mani treatment. The overall experience for the mani/pedi was great for the price. The owners run a clean friendly business. Cindy is one of the owners and was my manicurist and she was fantastic. One little thing that bugged me was if you wanted bottle water you had to pay $1, not a big deal, but for gosh sakes it's just a buck, give it to your customer for free. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a well done job and you are on a budget :) read more

I'm not really all that metrosexual but I do a ton of walking and so occasionally do have a pedicure done. This is the best place I've been in Cincinnati. The work they do seems to last the longest of all the places I've been. Recommended. read more

This was great. Crystal for real worked on my feet for 2 hours, it was a work of art when she was done. I got the super fancy pedicure and the massage was wonderful. The mud mask and hot towels made my skin super soft. Also they have a baller selection of music. read more

Went there today for a simple shellac. The color choices were poor and the brushes inside them had seen better days. I finally found a color and sat down for a simple shellac change. The color I choose was dark and should have went on seamlessly but it was spotty. The manicurist was awesome and kept trying to get the color to go on correctly but after 4 coats it wouldn't dry. She ended up having to remove the shellac and I had to leave because a 20 minute spa service had turned into 45. The decor is simple. The staff is awesome. The color selection is awful and I really wish they would upgrade to a variety of brands. I would go back if i needed an emergency fix or color change but I will stick to larger salons! read more

DO NOT go here. We decided to try this place on a whim. I'm pretty sure the girl who did my nails has had no real training. Took 15 minutes just to take off nail polish and then did not even do the manicure correctly. I had to go back to my regular nail lady to have it fixed a week later. The main lady pressured my sister into doing a bunch of crap to her nails that she didn't even want, just so she could take pictures for her portfolio. And then took more then 3 hours to complete everything. We were then late to our plans that evening. Do not recommend. read more

This place actually destroyed my nails. I went here once to get a set of acrylics, and my cut iCal got buffed off. Also she did not prepare my nails. They came off within a week. Lastly my friend went here and payed half of the price I payed, we both got the same thing done. read more

I stopped in on an impulse because of a $10.00 manicure they advertised on a sign outside their window. The manicure was good, but the salon was dirty, the manicurist talked on and on about herself and even took and made personal phone calls as she was serving me. Her smock was dirty, the cloths on the table were stained, the waste baskets were filthy. All around, the sanitation was awful. I am tempted to call the health department. read more
