I've gotten my nails done for years everywhere from Chicago to SW Florida to this place last year when I was here for the summer. This was a very bad experience. The tech ordered me to look at the tv. He was very rough with my hands and seemed to be in one big hurry to be done with me. Nail station was dirty and I don't think the tools were sanitized. My stylist was "Kevin" (an older Asian man) and he was AWFUL. I have had him before (and he's always awful - and he has a jerk attitude) and now every time I call to make appt - I request not to have him. I actually thought his name was "Ken" but have since found out his name is Kevin. But they know exactly who I'm talking about when I call. Well.... Twice now I have still gotten him. I'm not one to make a scene - so I've gone along w it. But not anymore! I'm DONE going to Top Nails. He scrapes my nails so bad/hard to the point of them bleeding a little bit last Sunday when I was there. When he can't get the polish off by scraping it - he gets his Emory board out and files the shit out tops of my nails - and gets the skin too. He needs to be FIRED. I went to Fashion Nails for years. YEARS, people! There are pictures from 5 years ago of my nails on here. However, the service had gone downhill (dirty nails and poor painting abound) AND they started loudly arguing amongst each other every time I was there. I don't know if I overstayed my welcome, but it was definitely time to find a new salon. My mother has sworn by the Anderson Top Nails since before they renovated the place. It's a larger salon, with 24 nail seats and 14 pedicure chairs. They say they take walk ins, but it's difficult to actually do that so I recommend making an appointment. It's actually funny, given its Yelp rating, how busy it can get! I don't have a particular favorite mail tech - but my mother loves Maria and my sister loves Sandy. I used to get super pretty long nails and even had a calendar for what I'd be getting - but my current job only lets me have natural painted nails, and that's a stretch. I'm still grateful that I can get what I get, and I enjoy my biweekly gel mani/pedis with them. With pedis I highly recommend gel. My regular polish always chips as soon as I leave! I've not experienced this in other salons, so I don't know what the deal is. The gel stays on perfectly & $5 extra isn't going to break the bank. Again, I don't understand what's with all these negative reviews. I don't want to diminish anyone's experience, but this salon is far too busy to be 2.5 stars. Regular mani during Covid: I'm impressed. As soon as you walk up to the front door, you're presented with expectations from the salon. Very normal Covid procedures: no fever, sick feeling before entering... wait until it's your time to come in... mandatory masks. I made an appointment for two a few days in advance, we were quickly honored our appointment time after filling out a whole sheet for liability. At the station, I was able to sit next to my friend without keeping a huge distance between us. The technician had a mask, shield and a large sheet of plexiglass between us. Tools were sanitized in their own individual packages. We were in and out in about 40 minutes, very pleased with the timing since it was just a basic mani. The hand massage was lacking compared to other salons I've been to and they only used lotion instead of lotion plus oil. A longer hand massage would've sealed the deal on five stars. My nails look good for now! No bubbles or unevenness. Update: chipped on day two, lowered stars, ugh. read more

20 years Pulled up at 10:30 to wait for door to open -either get mani pedi then or come back -appt for 2 I arrive 2:15 -promptly told I can only have 1 service, which I get, I was late (I did call to tell them I was running late) I hear receptionist take two appointments over the phone;she offered them to choose their time: both at 3:30 directly after my pedicure. She comes to get me at 2:45pm and I ask about mani. She doesn't know...blows me off Picked a color I ask again; she looks at my hands and keeps saying "jelly" 1/2 nods to me with 1/2 commitment. (Tricking me into staying until I know if mani is happening). She leads me to foot drying place; I ask again. She says "no time" even though walk ins are checking in and taken right back. It was more trouble to lose this client than take in the walk-ins. She says "you can book for another hour out and come back? Or tomorrow." At this point, I pull out my atm stack (went to atm prior to accommodate this store)... she hesitates and I tell her I'm not coming back, here, ever. I have been frequenting this salon for more than 20 years; in several different stores each time you moved. I send people in Hyde Park to go there. I'm a big tipper and I go out of my way to give cash for whole transactions. Lying to a customer is never a good choice. Putting effort into making it work, is always a good choice. Disappointed with the services, I'm not getting the services that I'm paying for. I have felt rushed in and out like an assembly line.

I visited this nail salon a few years ago as it was close to my sister's house. At the time, they did a good job. Last weekend was not the same experience. They moved to a new location, same area though. It doesn't seem like they are fully moved into the new spot since they didn't have all of the nail polish racks full of color options (but they do have the painted on samples). My big disappointment was the fact that I had a mani/pedi in 40 minutes. Normally I like fast service, but when I go for a mani/pedi, its to relax and be pampered. The massage chairs were quite nice, but there was no massage of my legs/feet or hands during my services. Both my mom and sister got a pedicure as well, they started before me and were finished after me. I really hope they work on their process and training, or else they will end up with kitchen timers next to you like other nail salons in the city. read more

My thumbnail is crooked. My nails are practically see-through even though I got a dark green color. There's glue all over my fingers. I asked for coffin shape and they're all square. my nails don't match each other, even though they said that they were gonna be the exact same colors and I didn't even get a callus treatment done with my pedicure. The nail technician was also super rough with me and my nails. I told her that I had hurt my thumb previously and she kept twisting it. Very friendly and efficient. As a walk in, I didn't wait more than 10 minutes before being shown to my pedi chair. I got a pedi with gel and a full set of acrylic finger nails with gel. I am very pleased with the results. I only rated 4 stars because I didn't get exactly what I wanted, an ombre finger nail painting. Also because the cost for each service wasn't really explained. I was not impressed with my manicure and pedicure or my nieces. The paint on our toes already smudged, my toe nails are uneven. The shellac manicure was a joke. Felt very rushed. Once I was seated, a wood frame with plexiglass was rolled up between me and the technician so we were separated with a shield while she gave me a pedicure. She also wore a face shield. My mom and I have been going to Top Nails for about a year now, and unfortunately will not be returning due to multiple occasions of being treated poorly. Before I list anything, I have to say that for a good while everyone was very accommodating, and we were pretty easy customers. While others would ask for wine, use their phone, etc, we would come in, get our nails done with small talk, pay and leave. I don't want to mention names, as most times there wasn't a problem. 1. Every once in a while about 30 minutes before our appointment, Richard (manager/owner?) will call us and ask if we can come in early. We usually can't as we're busy right up until the time scheduled. However, we did go in early once. We got there 15 minutes before our appointment, and proceeded to wait in the waiting room until the scheduled time. When my mom asked why he had called if we would not be waited on, he responded with "you'll be helped in a few minutes," completely dismissing my mom's question. That's fine, but we would have waited to come if we'd just be helped at the normal time. 2. There have also been a few times where our gel manicures chip way sooner than they should, or they will have bubbles. We've gone in to have them redone for free (as they normally do, and should, if the manicure is not done properly), and Richard has never really believed us when we explain the problem. Given, they will still fix the nails. This is probably the most minor of our issues. 3. One time, my mom picked a dark grey-blue color. The code on the bottle corresponded with the code on the sample, although the color that ended up on her nails was a bright, almost neon blue. Richard claimed the sample had faded. (??????) 4. The last, and most significant problem is this: Every. Single. Time. We've gone, we're never in the same place. We each have our go-to tech who we have every time, and we're always at a different desk. I honestly didn't even know prior to this where each of their actual assigned desks were. Before my homecoming a few weeks ago, I wanted to get my nails done with a friend. My mom schedule herself an appointment as well, just since she was due to get hers redone. When we get seated, they place us all in a row, my mom between my friend and I. We asked if my mom and I could switch so I could be next to my friend and actually get our nails done together. To which my mom's tech responds: "no, this is my desk." ... what? the one time we need to be in a different spot, she suddenly *has* to be in her specific desk, when we're always at a different spot?? Don't ask me why. After all of this, Top Nails has lost our business. I'm sorry this was so long, whoops. :) read more

Unhappy with the outcome of my service. My nail tech did not follow what I asked to be done. When I showed her a picture of what I wanted to be done she said she could do it and then didn't do it. When asking for help with the color you could tell she was irritated and then after applying the coat (only wanting to do 1 coat not 2) she didn't finish and do the design. After I made a comment about the nails not being complete she was annoyed. I ended up saying Nevermind because I just wanted to leave. I couldn't find anyone to speak to afterwards. I was then brought back about 5 minutes later. And waited and waited for another 15 minutes. I got up and left saying nothing. I was texted by them notifying me of my appointment at 4:30. I was denied service and kicked out because I have a service dog. An employee came up to me as I was picking out my polish and said her manager informed her that only guide dogs are allowed in the establishment and she would have to ask me to leave. I told her that it was against the law to deny someone with a service dog and she just kept saying her manager won't allow it. I then asked for the managers name and number so that I could report them and they refused to give it to me, saying they can't give out that kind of information. After arguing with them, my SERVICES DOG then alerted me to an on coming panic attack and I had to sit in my car until it passed and I was able to safely drive. I really hope after reading this you DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!! And be assured I will take legal action against them to fight for our rights and make sure no one else has to go through this!!! read more

Mike was my technician. He did not take his time and didn't even clean up my cuticles. My cuticles look worse than when I went in. He did not moisturize my cuticles or even cut them back. HE'S A TERRIBLE TECHNICIAN. Also, he checked the tip before continuing with my manicure. He's lucky to have gotten anything. By far the worst manicure I've ever had. I'm looking for a clean, efficient place that has a good selection of SNS colors and does a good job on my nails at a reasonable price. Top Nails - and Nini, in particular does that. I get a basic pedicure and an SNS manicure for around $81.00 (discount for cash). The place is more than clean. Love the liners in the pedicure tubs and the "sealed" tool packs for each visit. Nini gets me in and out within an hour. Yes. For those who have SNS nails, that's pretty darn impressive. That's getting the polish off, pedicure and new SNS nails. And, the nails look FABULOUS. If you are looking for a leisurely, quiet and private experience, this isn't your place. But, if you want an efficient and effective nail job, this place is it! read more

I treated myself to an SNS manicure for a weekend get away. The day after I got it done one nail chipped. I came back on Monday and they fixed it no problem. It's now been a week and 3 days and 4 of my nails are now chipped. I've never had SNS before but from what all my friends say is that it hardly ever chips. All I know is I paid $60 and my nails LOOK AWFUL!!! They were just not worth the money and my nails do not look good at all. I felt rushed while I was there and just not comfortable at all. I had to remind the nail tech to even put the finishing polish on my left hand because somehow she just forgot to to that to one but not the other. read more

If i could give ZERO stars I would. I come here and I get sat down with Kim. From the very second I sat in that chair she had an attitude and was seeming to take it out on me. First and foremost she mad my pointer fingers crooked gluing on the nails. I told her about it and she seemed to shrug it off. I told her my length and she did that fine. Then i began to tell her i do not like a lot of powder, and that i do not like my nails to look thick, to be as natural as possible. She played dumb acting like she didn't know what i meant by that. She then started filing and i told her MORE than ATLEAST 5 times, that i want them SQUARE AND NARROW BUT NOT COFFIN... she then makes them squoval and thick looking. I tell her can you make them more narrow and sharper SQUARE? She THEN makes them thick chunky COFFIN NUBS. I told her this is not what i ask for and she then again played dumb and began to argue. My aunt who was next to me getting her nails done as well then said to Kim, that she understands if sometbing is going on in her life and if she feels she needs to have an attitude then that's ok but she did not ask for this shape. Kim then began to argue. I say i would no longer like her to work on them and that I would like to leave. She tells me no. I then speak to the manager who was ALSO extremely rude and began to tell me that i either sit and wait another HOUR to soak them off, or she continues to finish my nails and i PAY FULL PRICE FOR THEM. I then say i would not like to do EITHER OF THOSE AND I WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE. They proceed to tell me that i cannot leave. The manager also had the nerve to tell me that I was being rude, all i had to say is I AM THE CUSTOMER. So i say fine clip them off !!!! She then grabs my hands and starts CLIPPING OFF MY NAILS LEAVING NOTHING LEFT LETTING ME LEAVE LIKE THIS. She continued to go over certain nails clipping them as short as they can go, seeming very spiteful. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND COULD LET SOMEONE WALK OUT WITH NAILS LIKE THIS.
