Tonight, I was stopped at the door, told there was an issue with the dress code and my tattoos, and made to stand to the side while white customers were allowed in ahead of me. The staff was rude about it, and I was left wondering why I was being treated differently. Eventually, a Black manager came over and gave me the OK to enter. I'm glad I was eventually allowed in, but that doesn't erase how I was treated at the door. If Red River has a dress code or tattoo policy, it should be clearly explained and applied consistently to everybody. I'm sharing my experience because customers deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of race.

First, I think it's very predatory to charge as much as they do for things at the bar. $13 for a can of Dos Equis? $8 for a La Croix? $7 for a bottle of water? Cocktails are $18 and served in a small plastic cup and are mostly ice. Just unbelievably bad value there. The Aoki show had an absolutely miserable parking and traffic management situation. Abysmal. But the worst was the complete lack of line management. The line wrapped all the way around the building. It was raining. There was no covering of any sort so anyone who was standing in line was just getting soaked. What if it had started completely pouring? Again just a terrible lack of planning or concern for the customer experience. And it WAS pouring a little before we got there. Why wouldn't they have something figured out for this? You don't care if your patrons are standing out in the rain? They did not have anyone monitoring the line. It would have moved much faster if someone had been walking the line reminding people to have their IDs and tickets at the ready. Furthermore, there were actually 2 lines, and one of them was wrapped around the building while the other was right next to it and at one point was being fed by the same wraparound but then started to have people bypassing the long line and walking straight up. Staff had no signage and no way to make this clear. If anyone who works here ever bothered to attend a concert like a regular patron does, they would probably see these things pretty easily. Once inside we did not have any problems but I avoided getting ripped off at the bar and went upstairs where it was less crowded. It would be nice to have some venues that care a little bit more.

Surprised they didn't charge me for the broken glass. So I paid for that too. Sucks for the waitress because the extra money would have gone to her tip as a thank you for cleaning up the spill. The valet is free but there's a code to use if you would like to tip. Sure, here's $10. Only it's not $10. There's a service charge of almost 30%. So now it's $13. Lord knows if the valet crew even see any of this money but who carries cash anymore? In the end, it's not the worse place to go but way too expensive and way too tacky to ever go back.

You'll want to double check if seating is reserved or open on the second level if you prefer to sit vs. stand. We stopped by to see Valley and they were so good live. When you arrive parking is pretty difficult and you'll either need to park in a nearby garage or on the street. The venue itself is vibrant, high energy, mixed with being in the heart of Dallas. We ended up sitting upstairs and I'm so glad we did as I didn't want to stand the entire concert. The beers are more on the expensive side so I'd recommend pregaming before the concert. This is a great venue to watch a concert from if you are in Dallas.
