Such a great little Northeast hidden gem!…read more I found Hilda's Tamales after an AI workshop nearby because I randomly wanted tamales, and I'm so glad I did. The ladies working there were incredibly sweet and patient with me while I attempted to order my entire meal in Spanish. I'm pretty sure my grammar was questionable, but they understood me! We ordered carne asada burritos, a chile relleno burrito, a carne asada torta, half a dozen red tamales, and a watermelon agua fresca. Everything was around $40, which was an amazing deal for the amount of food we got. The tamales were SO good. Moist, flavorful, and a really good meat-to-masa ratio. My father-in-law ended up eating most of them! My husband loved the torta, and the salsas were really good too. The ladies were also just genuinely kind. While I was waiting, we started talking about the Buy El Paso Rewards program, and I ended up helping connect them with the City so they could learn more about participating. I love finding small, family-run places like this. Great food, great prices, and really sweet people. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Northeast El Paso!

I knew familiar dishes would be a little different,.. and they were tasty and hit the spot. First, it was the salsa. It was good, had a little bite to it - not too much, and a very good, different flavor than anything I'd ever had before. The chips were "fresh", like homemade, probably from a local tortilleria, if not homemade. Exactly what I was looking for. I had the chimichanga, and it came with a choice of sauce. I chose the green. It wasn't green chile green (I DO love green chile!), it was more of a tomatillo, chile, and more mix. And it was quite good! The chimi didn't have much to it, but was very tasty as well. The meat, though shredded, was fine shredded, and therefore not stringy. It was very busy and noisy on a Sunday afternoon, mainly due to the Mariachi band. The band was very good, but also very LOUD. A few things in our meal were messed up, as well as the bill. So only 4 stars for me. Hopefully a better experience next time. Also, next time, Chile Rellenos... since a few people have raved about them here. My favorite... so we'll see... ;) Oh, and btw, this is almost right across the street from Chope's. If you've never been, but are thinking of trying Chope's, don't bother. This place is 100 x better!! Chope's is awful!

Ensenada is rustic, charming and absolutely delicious. The service is chefs fucking kiss. If you're a gringo reading this, stop asking Mexicans what their favorite "Mexican food restaurant" is. In a place like El Paso, this means NOTHING. Are you asking about a flauta place, a burrito place, a Mexican steakhouse, a Mexican seafood, a Mexican diner, a MEXICAN BREAKFAST?!? Dear gringo, Mexican food is a spectrum of cuisines, flavors and traditions. Ensenada occupies a very specific region of the spectrum, Tejano/Norteño breakfast food. Stop tasting the rainbow, and taste the torta! Taste the steak omelette, with a side of hash browns, freshly refried pinto beans, homemade salsa and homemade tortillas. If you're a Mexican reading this, carry on. Eat here - you'll be taken care of. Promise.

I was texting with a friend whom is a native and he was naming some recommendations in both Alamogordo and Cruces; however, it seemed like more were Mexican rather than NM (cuisine). We ended up choosing Si Senor after looking at their menu. We arrived for linner (around 3:30ish) & it was not busy at all (lots of vehicles in the parking lot though, but the restaurant is big). Our host and server were very friendly. We got a complimentary basket of chips with four different kinds of salsa and they were delish! We both ordered the two (mini) sopaipilla plate with red chile and 1 stuffed with ground beef and the other with chicken breast. Both entrees served with refritos and arroz. Both were tasty with a little kick from the red chile, but I was a tad disappointed that it was not smothered more with the red chile. Since it was BFF's birthday, we ordered a couple of margaritas (mine had fresh cucumber) & we were disappointed at the size as they were just a regular pour and both were 14.56/ea. We ended the meal with flan, and that was delicious as it was more of a custardy cheesecake rather than traditional flan. Overall, a bit pricey for what we got. Food was good but not outstanding. Service was excellent and I would definitely go back if I was in town again. Side note: they used to run a tortilla factory in back of the restaurant and now it is used for storage. I thought it was the original restaurant and the current one was new; however, our server explained the history to us.
