This little place is a complete gem. I have been twice in the last two weeks. The chips and salsa are great. The salsa is clearly freshly made daily with real roasted peppers and packs a perfect punch. I had the menudo both times I was there. It is done very well. The broth is rich and spicy and the tripe is perfectly cleaned and cooked. First visit I had the bean and cheese burrito smothered in red enchilada sauce and cheese. I loved every bite. The second visit, I added some picadillo (ground beef with tomatoes and peppers cooked in). It was even better than the burrito with just beans and cheese. I look forward to my next visit. Friendly service! :) .... Sad that they don't have jamaica to drink. They do have have horchata, lemonade, sweet tea, & your other regular drinks. Order a gordita - yummmy! They are small so if your hungry order something else or order like 3 or 4 gorditas. Do NOT get the fajitas plate they do not put bell pepper and the meat tasted like it was from yesterday (my teeth hurt from chewing the meat). The rice is not that good. Food is good, service is slow. One employee mentioned that they cannot find people willing to work... I've tried this spot a couple times while in the area, each time, good food, but very slow. If you don't have an hour plus for your meal, you may want to consider a different spot. read more

Great food and service! Anything with green sauce is my favorite especially enchiladas or chile con queso flautas.

Very fast service. Food was delicious and very hot. Waitress was very friendly and efficient.

NICE LITTLE PLACE WITH "GOOD" BUT NOT "GREAT" FOOD Ernesto's is a busy and clean little place on the main drag through Anthony, NM. It is a local favorite. (And, it "is" in Anthony, New Mexico, not Anthony Texas. Check their Facebook page!) There is no parking lot and parking can be a little difficult. There are a few places along the side of the bistro. Additional parking can be found on the street behind the restaurant. The dining area is comprised of two rooms. There are approximately twelve tables and a few hard booths available. The chairs are the uncomfortable banquet style chairs. The counter at the end of the central dining area is where the bill is paid. You get the picture; this is a most casual place for dining. When I dined there two middle-aged women were running the place. They were very pleasant and did a nice job. There is a lot of customer loyalty found here which helps explain the overly enthusiastic five star reviews. The chips and salsa were on my table quickly and the main meal in about eight minutes of ordering. The salsa was flavorful and had a real kick to it. The sopapilla compuesta was a little on the thin side but it had a nice texture and flavor. The green chile meat on the sopapilla was tender and flavorful. There were also potato chunks in the chile. All-in-all, this was a quality green chile sopapilla compuesta. I also sampled their red chile meat burrito and found the taste of the chile a little strange. I don't know if they mixed up my order but there was no red chile flavor as far as I could tell. The waitress assured me that that was their red chile??? There was potato in the burrito and a little refried beans...not enough to overwhelm the flavor like in some joints. Overall, a decent burrito if a rather strange one.....not sure what to make of it. What to expect if you go: You could have difficult parking, but the place will be well managed and clean (except for the restroom). The service is most friendly and the overall food quality is good. The food is well prepared from what I observed. Not a bad place to get your fill of New Mex food. Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS.....meaning, well above average to good. Overheard two locals talking up Ernesto's while on a flt into El Paso, and boy, are my taste buds thankful for my competent ear function. Upon arrival at restaurant, a diner highly recommended the burrito bathed in green chiles, and I concur. Great flavor with some heat, but not so much as to overwhelm the rest of the meal. One of the best Mexican food restaurants in anthony n.m and maybe even el paso. I always have the chile con queso steak which is a hamburger pattie topped with green chile and cheese and some french fries. I like to add 2 eggs over easy on top of that to let the egg run down the fries and mix it all together and mm mm lol. My wife loves her plato bañado which is a burrito covered in red chile sauce.
