His initial assessment was that no panel upgrade would be necessary, but he would need to inspect the panel to be sure. We scheduled a day for him to come by to check the panel and the placement of the charger. With some slight changes to the panel, he could make room for the required breaker. Originally, I thought the charger would need to be installed on the outside of the house, but Eric assessed inside the garage and identified the perfect location for the charger. His estimate was lower than I expected based on my research. We agreed on the price. He came by at the end of his day, so he was willing to do the electrical work while he was there. Eric has chargers with him to sell, but I was looking for a charger with an app, which he did not have. I asked Eric if there was a charger he recommended, and fortunately, it was the same one I had decided on. I ordered the charger, and it arrived a couple of days later. We initially had another electrician attempting to understand what was needed for the EV charger installation. My wife called and told me that this electrician was asking a lot of questions. She put me on the phone with him; he was completely clueless and his estimate was $150 over Eric's. He tried to justify his fee because he'd have to go shopping for parts and because he'd have to educate himself. He lied about the cost of a new breaker that could cost atleast $200. I checked with Lowe's; it's not $200! just asked him to not touch anything and leave. Fortunately we got a lead on Eric; he was prompt and offered to get the job done on the same day.
