For an area that doesn't have many options, this is an okay one. Nothing too bad about the place itself, it's your standard Mexican spot. The fajitas for 2 were pretty decent. The loaded nachos didn't give as many nachos as you usually get. And beware that both the frozen and on the rocks Margaritas (all flavors) come from a machine. This meant that my on the rocks margarita was very watery. I swapped it out for a frozen which was a little less watered down. I would get another drink next time that's not from the machine. read more

The ambience in this place isn't what I was used to but the food was delicious. I had the Shrimp Brouchette. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was definitely pleased. Their charro beans were also very good and full of flavor. This was the first Mexican restaurant I went to where there was no music playing. This is an amazing restaurant. The service is unbelievable, you will never have to wait or go without. The food is flavorful and they have a unique menu. Our favorite was the Michelada ( it's like a Bloody Mary beer ). It was served ice cold, so cold it had a mild slush consistency and the mix was the best we ever had. read more

Although I didnt get a chance to check in here, we did stop for lunch coming up from Bellville..and this truly fell flat for us..just seamed to lack a depth of flavor/spice for us...that was for the whole meal..another flop was everything was just luke warm at best...First round of chips were cold..second was warm...I will say the green sauce was tasty..Queso Bland except for the Huge chucks of tomatoes..Red Staff friendly and attentive...Wife went with Beef Chiladas, double rice...Myself was chicken, which oddly came with a red sauce, same as the wifes...could have been my bad reading the menu..but for me chicken means green sauce...I dumped the rest of the green salsa and the pico off the wifes plate looking for a boost in flavor...but sadly never found it...I would never say Yelp let me down, but I need research the reviews of the people that have eaten here and given it 4-5 stars.. we have had our fill of Mexican food..and this didnt give us our "Fix" for Mex/Tex Mex Food...Next Please! read more

We recently moved to Bellville and have exhausted all of our food options many times over, so we made the drive out to Hempstead for Vietnamese Food at the boat place. They ended up being closed on Tuesday nights, so we took a spin around town to see what else was around. Erick's had a handful of cars in the lot, so we figured it was a safe bet. It went well beyond merely being a safe bet. The restaurant was clean, the service friendly, and the food delicious. The meal started off with chips and two salsas: a green and a red. The red one was ignored because the green salsa was so good. My son ordered a steak quesadilla as his meal, and I had one of the plates with one of everything. His quesadilla was huge, and the scoops of guac, pico, and sour cream were ample. My plate had the fattest tamale I'd ever seen, a cheese quesadilla that oozed perfectly, and a giant chicken flauta. As with the quesadilla, the scoops on my plate were also generous. The rice was all right, and the refried beans were flavorful. Both meals exceeded expectations, and I would very highly recommend stopping in while driving through Hempstead or making a trip out here to mix it up. read more

I wanted a light lunch so I ordered crispy chicken tacos. I prefer made-in-the-kitchen fried corn tortillas to the pre-packaged ones, but seldom do I find these in any restaurant except for Las Vegas Cafe in Harlingen, TX. So, the tacos showed up dressed in pre-packaged tortillas. The chicken was ranchero-style, moist and tasty. The rice was way above average. The refried beans were terrible. They prepare them with comino, and this is a refried bean sin. I just want to taste beans. Add the comino only to chili gravy, etc. The chips were good and the 2 salsas were average at best because neither had any heat. The pico de gallo that came with the tacos was not good. Lacked salt, lime juice and peppers. There were no chopped jalapeno or serrano peppers, a pico major fail. Too many shortcomings for anything more than an average rating. Great service. read more

This was as good or better than any place I have been in the Houston area! I would seriously drive back here from the coast just for dinner again! I had the Tampiquena dinner. It included a piece of carne asada, a sour cream chicken enchilada, a cheese enchilada, and rice and borracho beans, served on top of carmelized onions. The carne asada was very tender and flavorful. The cheese enchilada was really cheesy-gooey and had a nice tangy chili gravy. The red and green sauce that came with the chips were both very good. I could have made a meal of them! My only complaint was that the hot sizzling plate was way too hot, so I was unable to eat the rice.... it was too hot and it dried out. In fact, I set the soup spoon down on it for a couple minutes, and couldn't even pick it up again it was so hot! Service was excellent too. Very nice, friendly staff! We were staying in the area and wanted to try a local place; was a toss-up between Erick's and Las Fuentes. Erick's won the toss. We sat outside. Very relaxed and casual. Service was prompt, friendly and welcoming. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and a plate consisting of enchiladas and a skirt steak. Margarita was bad. Worst. Ever. Skirt steak was heavily seasoned, not sure what it actually tasted like beyond seasoning. Enchiladas were pretty bland. Rice and bean soup were good. I try and temper my expectations when I am in small towns, but I will have to try Las Fuentes next time and hope they can deliver 3 stars. Or maybe I should drive to Brenham. read more

As a recent graduate of Prairie View A&M University I've visited this restaurant a couple of times and their food is really tasty. My favorite thing to get is fajitas with ramana sauce. The free chips and salsa you get is delicious and I've tried some of their flavored margaritas. The service is prompt and you get your food in a reasonable time. It's a pretty casual and average restaurant nothing too special but as I said their food is really good. I'd likely stop by again if I ever visit my college campus in the future. read more

The wife & I were looking for a watering hole and stumbled upon this place. This was our first time at Erick's. I had Tacos al Carbon (beef), my wife had Tacos Garibaldi (beef). We loved it! Really good Pico de Gallo, really good fresh Guacamole, even the refried beans were above average. The beef had a lot of flavor, perhaps some fruit juice in the marinade was partly responsible. Add an ice cold Carta Blanca, and you have a fantastic lunch. The decor in the main dining room could use some help. Oh yeah, they have an outdoor dining area too. Chips & Salsa were also good. I especially liked the red salsa. One more thing...my Entree was $8.99!!! Erick's gets 5 stars for value. We would have had a 2nd beer, but as luck would have it...we were seated next to 2 DPS officers, so we had water instead. I would DEFINITELY go there again, if I'm in the area. It's rare to find a place that has good chips & salsa, good guacamole, good pico de Gallo, good refried beans, AND good entree's. Kudos to Erick's...now go hire an interior designer. read more

A quite good Tex-Mex placewith a very small town, laid back feel .. Very friendly staff, who I believe are mostly from Mexico. Was here for a job interview lunch and was told to get something with beef.. Considering there are cattle ranches in the immediate vicinity, I followed that advice and got fajitas and was very pleased.. Unfortunately I did not get the job, but at least I got a very pleasant lunch out of the deal! read more
