Dr. Eric Chan is really very warm and took care of me very well from prenatal visits until after i gave birth. He is very caring to his patients. He is very kind, humble and soft spoken and will answer all your questions without hesitation even if he still has a full line of patients waiting outside. He is the best OB and I really recommend him. Will definitely go back to him for my future pregnancies. His secretaries were all very kind and accommodating. The address on here is wrong. It is suite #312, not #311. I had a 10AM appointment with Dr.Chan that I had made a week ago. I showed up at 9:30AM to do paperwork because it was my first time visiting him. I was not seen until 12:10PM and did not leave the office until 1PM. The staff is the most dysfunctional and irritating staff I have EVER had to put up with. They were clueless, disorganized and walked around like it was their first day on the job. Thinking about the staff completely and utterly infuriates me. Dr.Chan himself was a VERY excellent doctor. He listened to my symptoms, he gave me his opinions and upon learning that I am a cash patient with no insurance, he tried to give me multiple low cost options. After the visit, I left the office and was instantly chased down by one of the nurses. She told me I had to come back for another appointment in 3 weeks, and when I asked what the reason for that appointment was, the staff ran around like headless chickens, clucking at each other to figure out why I had to come back. 20 mins later, they finally tell me it's a follow up appointment. HORRENDOUS staff, Excellent Doctor. He'd get a 5 stars if he'd fire every one of those useless people and actually hire a competent nursing staff. read more

Whenever I think of Dr. Chan, I involuntarily gulp out of gratitude that it was he who delivered our Bryson into this world. Our regular obstetrician had to leave out of the country and left us in Dr. Eric Chan's hands, who we did not know. Within days, my wife's water broke in the middle of a rainy night and I drove her in a downpour of rain to Methodist Hospital. Fourteen hours later, she was in labor and the nurse started to do what seemed like a normal procedure. Dr. Chan was notified and we were told he was on his way to deliver, but he was coming from Monterey Park. The nurse tried to remain calm, but somehow the baby couldn't come out. We were getting worried, and my wife later told me she was getting scared looking at the nurse's expression each time she tried to push our baby through. After several tries, Dr. Chan finally arrived and took over. It still wasn't easy, but he had a strong calming effect on me and our family as well as on the other nurses. He used a couple of tools that I cannot recall, but one was to extract our baby out, though he simply talked calmly through everything, making all of us feel as if it was very normal. He couldn't fool my wife though, who observed him carefully throughout the procedure and afterwards noted that his eyes and slightly clenched teeth gave away the difficulty of the delivery. Finally, a high cry came out and our Bryson came into this world with a shock of black hair, glimpsing back at me as the nurses carried him over to weigh. Dr. Chan told us Bryson's head was stuck and he had to use that whachamicallit contraption to pull him out. In lesser hands, I imagine the soft head would have been damaged. I thanked him profusely and he humbly smiled, talked with us a few moments, then left for his full schedule the rest of the night. Seeing a review of this doctor brought back those memories. I think I'll finally send him a picture of our Bryson at two and a half, and a long neglected letter of thanks for bringing out so much joy for us. I cannot speak for the reviews of the office staff, but Dr. Chan was a blessing for us! read more

This place sucks! They don't actually let you make appointments. All they tell you is you can come on a particular date then you can only put your name on the waiting list when you get there on the day. Basically patients have wait up to 3 hours just to see the doctor. What a waste of time! read more

I am not a patient of Dr Chan but my mother in Southern California is and the following is my personal experience with Dr Chan and his office. My mom is a 70 year old woman and merely weighs 74 lbs. She was hospitalized 7 months ago because of anorexia nervosa and major depression. After she came home from the hospital, she practiced some exercises following the instructions of her physical therapist and has experienced some lower abdominal pain. A neighbor recommended my mom to see an OBGYN and that was how she became Dr Chan's patient. Dr Chan recommended my mom to have MRI at the affected area and she did. In order to further understand the situation, Dr Chan suggested my mom to go through an OBGYN procedure for biopsy that requires anaesthesia at a hospital. The whole appointment will stretch from 5:30 am to 11:30 am. Dr Chan recommended my mom to verify her heart condition prior to the procedure. Today is Saturday 5/15 and my mother is scheduled for a cardiograph this Monday and the request was made last Wednesday 5/12. The advice is to complete the cardiograph and the OBGYN procedure between 5/17 to 5/26. I cannot help to ask, "What exacty is the rush?!" Above all, my mom does not have any internal bleeding and I still do not understand the reasons for this procedure. What about the fact that my mom is still suffering from major depression, anorexia nervosa, not to mention with trouble breathing? I called Dr Chan on Saturday morning 5/15 at 10:30 am at 626 927-0874 to inquire the risks of this procedure for my mom and also the fact if this is a "elective surgery" and whether he knows she was discharged from intensive care 7months ago. A lady answered the phone and was able to pull up my mother's record on the computer but she explained Dr Chan may not want to call me back because I am not the patient. I informed the lady nicely that my mother is not fluent in English and she does not understand the implications as well as the risks involved with the procedure (since everybody's reaction to anaesthesia varies and in the world of surgery, there are cases that patients never wake up after being injected with anaesthesia). The lady then took my message and informed me that Dr Chan will try to all me back. Dr Chan did not call me until 4:57pm the same day. I missed his call and tried to call him right back at 4:58 pm but the same line is automatically connected to an answering service for Dr Yu and one other doctor. The operator at the answering service informed me that I cannot leave a message for Dr Chan because that is the dedicated line for the other two doctors and she does not have Dr Chan's phone number. I questioned how come when I called the very same number this morning Dr Chan's nurse answered my call, pulled up my mom's medical record but you are now telling me that this is not Dr Chan's line?! --THIS IS BEYOND ABSURD! I am sure Dr Chan is a happy well likeable doctor but I am extremely upset about my experience with him and his office for the following reasons: 1. Does my mother really deserve to be put on a chopping board for some unknown reasons at her age and condition, in such a rushed manner? 2. Poor communication- Like Aubrey T's comments on 09/24/09, Dr Chan is very busy, but that is not an excuse to call me back at 4:57pm, left me a message to call him back without addressing my questions, and when I tried to call back at 4:58 pm at the number he gave me, the line conveniently became an answering service which does not serve the doctor whom I was able to reach in the morning. This is very confusing, you mean you share a line with someone only during office hours. What is the point of having a office phone number on your listing when patients cannot even leave a message? ---Is this a trick?? 3. Rushed judging and a lack of understanding of patient's existing conditions. I am going to take my mom to another doc for a second opinion. 4. Does not have a dedicated answering service. We need health care reforms. Doctors need to be doctors, be compassionate for patients of all ages, and have some integrity. Last but not least, don't be too frugal. I haven't been looking around for a gyno just because I want to know which one to choose in the San Gabriel Valley since there are so many nearby. I was referred by my own primary care to give Dr Eric Chan a try. So I gave his office a call and asked a few questions. I have to say, it was a bad experience. This goes out to the office/ front desk/secretary. 1: The girls in the office are rude. Come on seriously, how do you know if the person on the other side of the phone doesn't or does speak your language. If you need to talk smack about your "future customer," (the person on the phone) please do it nicely/professionally by muting or put me on hold. I don't want to hear you gossip about me. What a turn off. 2. I have insurance and yes of course I want to make sure if you take it. Who wants to be seen and then end up receiving a big bill stating that the doctor is not part of your network, and you have to end up eating up the whole bill yourself. You have the decency to tell me to find out the benefits myself when I don't even work in the office or not even a medically trained person. GOSH! :( Sadly, by all the reviews about how great Dr Chan is, I'm sad to say I wasn't able to give Dr Chan himself a try because I don't want to bother with rudeness the front desk gives out. We all have those days where we don't feel like dealing with people, but come on, you are working a professional place. A person is seeking help is because they are not feeling well, why do you have to make it worst for them. Be more respectful. I am happy to have Dr Eric as my OBGYN and delivered my baby at San Gabriel Hospital. I supposed to deliver at Huntington Memorial by different doctor in Pasadena but at the last minute my insurance company told me that I belonged to different group of coverage and the hospital wouldn't see me without the authorization. Two days prior to my delivery date i was assigned to see Dr Eric Chan for the first time. I thought I was dropped to less professional doctor since i didn't have any say at this last minute. Miraculously Dr Eric was the best thing that happen to me. He was very professional, knowledgeable, skillful and competent doctor. He scheduled me to deliver four days pass what my previous OBGYN told me. He insisted that i have to pass 39 weeks for delivery even though my baby had lateral position. On the delivery day he showed up half an hour earlier to check on me at the hospital. He was very relax while performing C-Section and fifteen minutes later i successfully delivered a healthy baby girl. Dr Eric visited me everyday to check on recovery during my stay at the hospital. I was really blessed to have him. God willing, i will see him again for my next pregnancies. read more

Oh my have the tables turned. Whenever i visit see Dr. Chan, there are no problems whatsoever. Staff is quite friendly. Sometimes they can be "rude" at times due to certain patients or its just one of those days- we're all in the same boat. This review is on behalf for my grandma- Not only is(was) Dr. Chan my gyno, he WAS also my grandma's as that's how I was referred to him. My grandmas old but she's finally having old people symptoms so trips to various doctors occur weekly. She was concerned about a "dropping" feeling she had in her private region (cystocele/dropped bladder.) He examined her and said she should have surgery to get it fixed. When you're about 80 years old with a pacemaker and a lot of health problems, having surgery is one of your worst nightmares come true. As she got her diagnosis, we went back to our family doctor and had a discussion. He told us if she wants to do the surgery, she can but she doesn't need to... the "problem" is not life threatening so its ultimately up to her to decide. We then had a talk with our family and my dads girlfriend was concerned about the use of general anesthesia which is required for this specific surgery. Her father only needed a small surgery but because of the general anesthesia, his body became numb for 3 months turning him into a vegetable before he passed. Upon hearing this, my grandma went back to Dr. Chan to see if there were any other options. His response? To get upset at her then proceed to ask, why is she coming back to see him if she's choosing not to go forth with the surgery. No surgery = no big bucks for Dr. Chan. Money talks here. You want to be properly cared for and watched after? Find another gyno. Luckily for my grandma, our pharmacist who is also our family doctors sister recommended a new gyno to us. She had an evaluation and instead of having surgery, they inserted a ring-live device up there and told her to come back every few months to get it checked and cleaned. My grandmas case is mild so that's why she was able to get the pessary (device.) Had it been more severe, then a surgery would be required but Dr. Chan wanted to jump the gun and go straight for an unnecessary procedure. read more

To be fair, all the bad things everybody says about Dr Chan's staff is 100% accurate. Whoever picks up the phone when you call is consistently developmentally challenged. They pissed me off too. What you need to do is to bypass them by asking for Jennifer on the phone, the older Chinese nurse with chin-length curly hair. She seems to be the only other person in his entire office who knows what she's doing. What a crazy office! read more

Eric Chan is the best OB doctor I have ever seen, very professional, excellent skill, and really patient，the only reason I gave 4 stars just because the front desk are sucks and rude, bad temper, and no patient at all. Dr Chan is very professional and very nice. He explains everything clearly. He cares about his patient.

Dr. Chan delivered both of my sons. I had very serious condition of hemolytic anemia during my pregnancy. Dr. chan contacted and had conferences with my Oncologist for me. he provided best care to both me and my babies. I understand the nurses might be little crazy, but Dr. chan is a caring, sincere, and empathetic attitude doctor. He's always willing to share his knowledge and respect your time.
