Dr. Haas and his team are the BEST! I'm a ten year Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer survivor and Dr. Haas was key in my treatment, recovery and my ultimate success. He performed my very lengthy resection surgery via the Davinci robotic assist and then my ileostomy reversal a few months later. I had to start my 2nd round of chemo as soon as possible post resection surgery per my oncologist's treatment preference at the time so I had to wait after my chemo completion to have my ileostomy reversal but both surgeries were a success! I can't thank Dr. Haas, his team and his office staff enough! They took their time to address my concerns and answer any questions I had. At times when I would think of questions after the appointment, they were very good about getting back to me when I called. His staff was always courteous, friendly and attentive on the phone and in person! Words just can't express how grateful I am for their care during a very difficult journey in my life! This man almost killed me. Untrustworthy and a liar. Thank God for Dr Cali at UT health. Haas led me to belive he was doing the surgery but it was his residents so that he could book multiple surgeries on the same day. His group is extremely unethical. I spent months in the hospital right next to his office and he wouldn't visit me. Litteraly walked past my room where is was fighting for my life on his way to his car every day but couldn't be bothered to visit. Haas is a bad person and shouldn't be practicing medicine. The TLDR version:: Dr. Haas is great. Funny professional. Problem solver. No nonsense. He has an incredible staff. The only complaint is the wait, and frankly I don't mind. It's usually 1.5 hours in and out. He cares. His staff cares. Bottom end problems are embarrassing and I don't feel embarrassed in his office. Good luck and I genuinely hope you make an appointment with Dr. Haas. May God be with you. The I have lots of time review: I was having trouble with my bottom end. I had totally lost faith in my gastroenterologist to help me, so I began looking for a colorectal specialist. There was a story I read about Dr. Haas doing the rounds and seeing serval of his patients in pain and coming up with a new pain management methodology and course that doesn't rely on opioids, which makes bottom end problem worse most of the time. I knew he was the doc. You don't find many doctors giving a hoot about patient comfort. It also showed he's a problem solver and innovator. There seem to be two kinds of doctors these days. The problem solvers and the counselors. I don't need to be counseled as to why I am the problem or admonished for my life choices. I need a course of treatment with a resolution. Dr. Haas does that. He has a sense of humor. Vast expertise and experience. He isn't sitting across the table telling you to spend more time meditating and drinking wheatgrass. He came in, took a look, and immediately banded a hemorrhoid. Boom. Before I could even get anxious about it. He didn't make me wait three weeks of discomfort and anxiety. Boom. After a few visits I felt much much better. His staff is professional. Funny. And most of all, no drama. The only issue, is that sometimes you have to wait, but that's because he is in demand. A lot of cancer patients and others need his services. If you want someone with experience, that isn't going to lecture you about meditation and make you wait months while they bilk your insurance, take an afternoon off and get a consultation. If you enjoy being lectured and judged and billed, then go see my ex-gastroenterologist. He's in cypress. BTW: I've been seen by Dr Haas every time. He does have PA's and residents and students and nurse practitioners in his office and sometimes they are with him and work under his supervision, which I am totally fine with. Everyone has to learn. I was always asked if it was OK they be present or assist. Again. Fine. Having these issues is embarrassing and let me tell you. I've had 10 years of GI problems. Thanks to my new gastroenterologist and Dr. Haas I have quality of life again. And I am going to put this here, as well, but pray about your condition and have others pray for you. Dr haas was my dr. In 2006, I needed surgery and my pcp referred him to me, I checked in the hospital he was a completely rude dr. With zero bedside manner skills!... in pre-op. He asked my parents if they had any questions about my surgery, when my mom asked her question, he got mad and yelled at her, I came extremely close to walking out of the hospital and cancelling the surgery , in my opinion he is completely incompetent to work with patients, he has a very bad temper and has yelled at me several times throughout my stay in the hospital. Dr Haas and his team's office is chaotic and unorganized, it's difficult getting in touch with anyone and you must diligently follow up yourself or you will not get answers/results or be provided with proper aftercare. His surgical skills may be exceptional, but he is extremely arrogant, he was dismissive of my pain, did not address all of my concerns on multiple visits and he gaslit me. He did not see me after my surgery, did not follow up with the hospital to ensure proper diet was followed, and I learned the extent of my surgery by requesting the operative report. When I spoke to him about extreme post-surgical pain, he denied providing inappropriate aftercare (his pre-op appointment contradicted this), claimed my pain existed pre-surgery (not accurate), and stated multiple times that I should appreciate what he did for me. In another encounter, he made me wait for 4 hours on the portal for the follow up appointment, and every time I would disconnect because of long wait times, his office would call me within minutes to ask me to get back on the portal and wait for him as he was ready for me. He never showed up claiming he had surgery, but they failed to reschedule me and continued to insist I remain on the portal waiting for him. If you choose to work with Dr Haas and his team, demand post-surgery follow up and proper aftercare procedures. Prepare yourself for a successful procedure and recovery by being your own most diligent advocate. read more

After my initial surgery in January, I was left with some new issues that needed to be addressed. Another procedure was required to address those issues, and it has made a remarkable difference. I agree with those who said that the chronic delays and the inability to speak with the doctor about questions and concerns are valid issues. What an amazing Doctor this man is! I have had hemorrhoids since the age of 32 my name is Reyes Maldonado and from the very first procedure i knew this man was blessed. I actually arrived an hour earlier than my scheduled appointment because seeing him is always a negative free experience. Theres never been any discomfort from his procedures on me and i am super blessed to have him. I am not ashamed to speak on this delicate issue because we all need to discuss these things that people often are embarrassed about. Dr Haas is on an appointment by appointment basis' freeing me of a Hemorrhoidal issue I've had for more than 23 year. I even relocated from Indiana where nobody there could help. Dr. Haas has zero respect for his patient's time. He may be a great surgeon, but office visits are ALWAYS running one to two hours late. And sadly, he and his staff really don't care. He was late before and after my procedure....again reminding everyone at the hospital the world revolves around him; unfortunately his reputation is known for this there, I just said what they were all thinking. I ended up completing more work than his office staff. I was called the day of my appointment and told to come in 3 hours later than my scheduled appointment. Upon arriving I had to wait an additional hour. I saw a colleague of Dr. Hass first who was rude and unprofessional. Next I saw Dr. Haas who suggested I needed surgery within the month. He also told me his scheduler was on vacation and would contact me within two days. Since I didn't hear from anyone I had to call and schedule my surgery. The lady informed me that my surgery would be two months away. I explained that Dr. Haas tokd me I needed surgery within the month. She said Dr. Haas knows about the wait and it is fine. A few days before surgery I get a call asking for payment for the procedure. I made the payment but had to also request pre-op instructions and the location of the surgery. They NEVER provided me with this important information. Two days before the surgery I get an email saying I needed to pre-register with the surgery facility no less than a few weeks before the procedure. I registered which was painless, then they required a large unexpected payment. On the day of the procedure, the rude colleague comes into my room and gives me post op instructions. He then tells my partner about the medications and gives wrong details on the formulary of the drug. He was offended when my partner (Nurse Practitioner) calls him out. After the surgery Dr. Haas tells us to call his office and schedule a post off appointment two weeks from that day. Upon calling the office an appointment was already in place at a different location than where I was originally seen. The second week of recovery was painful and I had unexpected complications. I have called the office 4 times this week and have only spoke to medical staff. I have yet to receive a call back. I was asked if my appointment was moved up would I be available to come in, they still haven't called back with that appointment. Today is my post-op appointment (two weeks later) which I am not looking forward to at all. I am still in pain which only began one week after the procedure. One of the issues that were supposed to be resolved from surgery is still visibly an issue as was not addressed in the operation. read more

I'm going to try to salvage this for Dr. Haas, because he and his staff are very patient-focused, skilled and very kind. Dr. Eric is extremely understanding of the frustrations that are presented to his patients. I HAVE had difficulties with the wait, and that is okay if the staff is conscious of the time frame they've told me and then has checked back in with me with updates when it is exceeded. This was my difficulty and I voiced it to Dr. Haas. His concern was great, and he assured me that he valued the feedback and would follow with coaching. I can't ask for more than that level of understanding. There is a sense of urgency, as priorities present themselves and that changes throughout the day, with emergency surgeries a norm. Call ahead; ask about the schedule. Understand you are dealing with one of the best and he is in high demand. read more

No sense of urgency, terrible customer service, and completely unprofessional. I am on my third doctor here after a few months of visiting. The doctors keep leaving the practice. I got through a consult with one and then booked my surgery a month and a half out as the earliest time I could get. I get a call two days prior to my appointment to learn my doctor left the practice and I am back to square one. I had to rebook my surgery another month out so that the new doctor could have his own consult with me ( it's the same practice, so they have access to the same data). So I have to go back in, pay another co pay, and leave work to talk to this guy. On top of this, I had a friend take off work to pick me up since I was going to be put under. read more

I saw Dr Haas for the first time in February. He told me I needed surgery. I requested it be scheduled for Spring Break week. And it was scheduled then. The first time I saw Dr Haas he got called to the hospital. I waited 5 hours. Well you can get mad about that but what if that was you at the hospital? He performed my surgery on March 13. He corrected a serious colon issue. I'm so much better now. He did an amazing job. He is a very caring doctor. I had no issues with office staff. He improved my life. To me he's the best !!! read more

I want so badly to give these guys five stars. I really do. But so much here that is making me give less than that. Let me give a rundown of why I'm giving a "meh" rating. The Good: When you can be seen by him (keywords - by him), Dr. Haas is (allegedly) an AMAZING surgeon. People come from all over the world to see this dude. He is definitely an expert in his field, and does everything from simple hemorrhoid surgery to colon removal and other complicated procedures. If you need surgery, you're going to want this guy. I've had surgery from him - and my issue seems to be gone. Let's see how that changes in the next few months. The staff is friendly and will work with you on insurance / billing issues that may come up. So far, I've had no issues with anyone who works in the practice. The Bad: I am pretty sure that somewhere behind the scenes, a six year old leads the efforts to coordinate the practice's schedule and appointments. In the three years I've been going, I have NEVER been seen on time. Average wait time in the waiting room for morning appointments is 30 minutes after your scheduled appointment (which for them is really good) all the way to 90 minutes (which is guaranteed if you're being seen after lunch). This is just waiting room time. I've also waited upwards of 45 minutes while in the actual examination room as well. I really don't think the office staff cares that its patients have jobs or lives outside of being seen. Look - I get it...doctors get swamped with things that come up. But time management is something that an efficient office should be practicing. And these guys don't appear to have that. Next, and probably what bothers me the most, is that I haven't ever been seen by Dr. Haas in the office. He did do a surgery of mine, but I am basically guaranteed to never see this dude again in the office, instead being seen by another younger doctor in the practice. Not to say the other doctors aren't competent...but when you sign up to see a certain physician, I feel like you should ACTUALLY be seen by him. Maybe I am naive in this regard. TL;DR Version: All in all, despite the lack of organization and time management skills, I do think that there are skilled physicians here who can assist with whatever issues you may be having. Just be forewarned that if you're looking for a timely visit, you will not get it. read more

Dr. Haas is awesome. I'm not really concerned with wait time, it's quality care that I was looking for and I got it. I had a colon resection due to diverticulitis, left the hospital 2 days later and never took a pain pill. The man knows his business, highly recommend. read more

My experience at this office was outstanding. Respectful of my time, clear instructions and the surgury center on the 6th floor of Scurlock was outstanding, too. My colonoscopy was 100% covered by my medical insurance and I was not bothered by any billing issues. Apparently they have been quick to respond to previous negative reviews. read more

My family member came to Dr. Haas after being diagnosed with diverticulitis. This experience was better than expected. Not only did his team assisted us during every step of the process, but also helped us and answered every single question we had. The surgery went smoothly! Dr Haas is a good doctor but I will no longer recommend him. He has relocated to Scurlock Towers. The reasons I will not go back is cionsistently I have had to wait 2 hours or longer past my appointment time to see him. I understand emergencies occur which can alter the schedule but today was inexcusable. My appointment was at 330. I was called back at 420. I was having a problem with coughing and asked the nurse for water. Thirty minutes I opened the door and asked again for water. This time it was brought in about 10 minutes. After sitting for 45 minutes I was then told that the doctor had left 1 1/2 hours ago for an emergency. The exact time of my appointment. I was given the option of seeing the PA whom I had seen on my last visit because he was unavailable. I agreed. Then I was told it would be another 20 minutes because she was doing a procedure on another patient. That patient had an appointment scheduled after mine. Unbelievable!!! This office has very little respect for it's patients. This seems to be the usual routine and I refuse to be treated like this any further. I left and upon explaining why at the checkout I was asked if I wanted to reschedule. I laughed!!!!! Dr Eric Haas seems to be very skilled. Not so for some of the others in the group. And you don't know who you'll actually see, regardless of who your appointment is with. Add to that the incredibly long wait. The last two appointments I've waited hours (2+) beyond the appointment time. Bad management? This is a poorly managed practice. read more

I made two visits to Dr. Haas. I waited over an hour to be shown to the exam room. Information was not given freely. You have to make efforts to understand what is going on, or what the procedure will entail. This lack a communication is a problem for me. I had a certain procedure Completed and was not informed about what to expect going forward once it was complete. I was simply given a piece of paper and pamphlet when i left. It seems as if they look to get you in and out and not spend any time explaining how this may have occurred and what to expect after treatment. I would NOT RECOMMEND this doctor. read more
