My wife and I stopped for a light meal. There were just a couple kids working here. They didn't seem to care at all. We ordered a sandwich that was supposed to have avocado on the sandwich but there wasn't any, the topping were minimal. When we asked the girl about the avocado she just balked and said "it is on there" I opened the sandwich to show her the inside and I said "where?" she then repeated that it is on there. So I'm not a huge fan of sandwich shops so they won't get more than 4 stars from me. The reason why is because the sandwich is probably one of the easiest and cheapest things to make at home yet these shops charge you ridiculous prices for their "gourmet" turkey and cheese on bread. Come on, the sandwich was invented because a guy was too lazy to stop playing cards and get a meal to eat so he put some meat and cheese in between some bread and viola, the sandwich! I should open up a cheese and cracker restaurant with how lazy people have gotten when it comes to eating. You literally could buy all the ingredients and make a sandwich for yourself in the time that it takes to wait for a sandwich delivery or pay for a sandwich. Anyways...enough of me ranting about sandwich shops. I had a certificate to use at Erbert and Gerbert's so I had nothing to lose. Sandwich shops are usually pretty practical and nothing too showy, once again it is literally sliced meat and cheese you can buy from the supermarket on bread. Here is the competition: * Subway - Motto is that we can "eat fresh" but we all know that garbage is practically rotting in those tiny bins. They are conveniently located in Walmarts because that is where they buy the ingredients and then charge you a nice mark up. Subway is also where fat people go to become skinny child molesters. * Jimmy Johns - Shop created by a slacker who's Dad gave him the choice to either go into the military or open up a business. He chose sandwiches (easiest thing to make practically, he should have chosen cheese and crackers) and marketed it by calling them "gourmet". Sandwiches were delivered to lazy, drunk college students and now it is a reputable chain. * Quiznos - Hot sandwiches, cold marketing. Enough said. * Firehouse Subs - Crap served in a firehouse now available to you. Erbert and Gerbert's seeks to stand out by naming all of their sandwiches after fictional characters that appear in the store's story about Erbert and Gerbert's many adventures in the galaxy while being hunted by a demon-possessed comet. Yep, you read that right. So at least it is more creative than just "sandwich shop." I will give them credit with the characters and the story books scattered around the restaurant, it is a creative tie-in. So anyways, I tried the Egyptian Character sandwich Narmer (Turkey and Guac - no relation to Egypt whatsoever). I'm not going to lie, I thought the names were cool for a second and then realized I had to pronounce them to the guy at the counter and look like an idiot, no so cool anymore. I made it though and got my sandwich AND it was a sandwich. Not much meat or guac, lots of lettuce. Oh, I'm so glad I didn't pay for this. Bag of chips and soda where the same you can get anywhere else. I will say though that the bread was really good and that the customer service was spot on. People also seemed to be getting a lot of the soup, so that must be good. It didn't look that bad. I might come back to try the Neptune (lobster and pickled slaw) but to get a whole meal will set me back about $10. I could buy a whole week's worth of sandwiches for that... read more

Went there yesterday to get my daughter a sandwich. She was starving between hockey games at the high school. So time was VERY VERY tight!!! I was met with a smile and my order was taken right away. I told them what the situation was and they had me out of there in about 2 minutes!!!! My daughter LOVED her sandwich and they went on to win 6-2 in their game. You have a happy dad and a very satisfied hockey player. We will go there again!!! read more

College memories from the 90's brought me to St Cloud and my first Erberts and Gerbert's. When returning to St Cloud I would stop as they were not in Twin Cities for awhile. Now there is one in Apple Valley. Service is friendly and quick. The prices have gone up, sprouts no longer in sandwiches and sliced turkey portion is thin. I do like them better than Jimmy John's at least the owner doesn't go on wild safari hunts killing animals and posing. I like the Boney Billy and Jacob Bluefinger subs. They get huge points in my book for serving beer cheese soup. Ah... I wish more places did. The sandwich names are stupid and you feel sort of dumb ordering them. It's a minor setback but a notable one, nonetheless. The sandwiches are very reminiscent of Jimmy John's. Same general bread and topping taste, though this place does it better somehow. Maybe it's the addition of soups that I always end up so desperately missing when I find myself at JJs; yes, I'm almost positive that's it. I somewhat regularly find myself in Apple Valley and I tend to flock to this place when I'm in the sandwich spirit. It's clean, quick and it does the trick. One of the best parts about this place is that they give you the bread 'guts' (from where they remove a portion to make your sandwich) to dip into your soup. This was definitely one of my favorite sandwich joints in college, and I was thrilled that one moved in to my slice of suburbia. As long as you don't mind ordering via stupid sandwich names, this place is for you. The bread and the soups are delicious and go well together, especially since they give you the bread "guts" which are great for dipping. The only downside here being there are no hot sandwich options, and that is a show stopper for some. If you have never been, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

No better than Subway. Our sandwiches were of mediocre quality, and I thought they were a bit skimpy on the meat and cheese, but loaded up the sandwich with shredded lettuce. The cost was comparable to Subway, or perhaps a bit higher, but I didn't think the quality was any better than Subway. Not a fan of this place. They took the worst things from Jimmy Johns and subway (except for Jared), and built their chain around it. The names of the sandwiches are pretty dumb, but its really the best thing they have going for them. In no particular order I will list everything I didn't like about them. 8 inch subs that cost more than 12 inches at subway. Did you see the prices yet? Holy crap I felt violated. No option to toast the sandwich. All their sandwiches come with various vegi's and condiments, not sure if I can change them or if it costs more. Very little meat inside for what I payed. Went in today so excited to get a sandwich on gf bread. Ordered a sandwich with extra meat and paid the $12 price tag. When j got home and opened my sandwich there was no extra meat. WHAT? I was the only one in the restaurant. Then when called to complain all I got was "well there is nothing we can do with out your receipt and the whole sandwich" ( and I didn't even get a receipt). I love subway, I love jimmy johns, I love Milio's , I LOVE Erbert and Gerbert's. Never had a bad sandwich, wouldn't complain if they were bigger because I want more! lol. I have ordered online for delivery multiple times and every single time, they screw up my order. I've gotten the wrong sandwich entirely twice, they've forgotten to add my children's sandwiches to the bag, or forgotten the extras we order (Chips, Drink, or Cookie)! They're sandwiches are okay, but are expensive for what you get. If you can be at the store to order, go for it, but if you're trying to order online or over the phone, expect it to be wrong. read more
