My first complaint, when I ordered through GrubHub was that a chicken sandwich and a small fry was $21. Second complaint came when I had picked up my food; by the way I did leave a two dollar tip even though it was a pick up order. So my total was $22 for a hot honey chicken sandwich and a small fry. If the quality met the price, I wouldn't really have a problem with this place. I have included a photo of how the cheese looked on my $15 sandwich, seriously you couldn't even put it all the way on? The sauce was mostly on 1/2 of the bun and it was completely sloppy and dripping everywhere, way too wet. And after a few bites, the chicken straight up just fell out of the breading. That's when I stopped eating it. The fries tasted OK, for the 15 or so fries I got for four dollars, again not worth the price. I paid $1.99 to add bacon to my sandwich; when I took a look, it was one slice of bacon cut in half. Cheap asses. Won't be returning unless they take down to their unbelievably insane prices by at least 30% and obviously they won't be doing that. The overall experience was ok. I went with a group of friends who wanted to check out this new place. The service was good - the staff made sure to explain about the menu and treated us great. Regarding the food we had mixed opinions - some of us liked the burgers but for some of us they were too oily. They put butter on the bun, which I hate because if the meat is good you don't really need any additions, but they don't tell you this. Luckily we had that information from a friend who knows this chain, and so we just asked them not to add any butter. Even without it, the burger was oily, but tasted pretty good. I wouldn't really recommend the fries, they're nothing special. Also, they don't have sweet potato fries. The strawberry shake was okay, but didn't really feel like it was very good value. Awesome burger joint. Glad it came to Evanston. I had the classic burger with an egg (recommend the egg!). Burger: Very Good. Ingredients were very fresh. I really like the grill onions. The cuts are quite big but I sorta liked it. Best part - is the toasted bottom bun. Most places "toast" their buns, but Epic Burger's is very well done. It gives you this extra crisp for each bite. The patty is a good size that also has a solid sear on it. Milk Shake: Strawberry is very good. Very thick and tasty. Straw could be a bit larger so I don't tire myself after the shake. I tried the peanut button and chocolate - good too! Service: The fried egg comes either runny or firm. I ordered runny but it came out firm (both me and my friend). The staff was did offer to take it back but her attitude was alright. The owner/manager came out and apologized and gave us a coupon as well. Eggs are $0.99 extra, which I think, though not preferred, is acceptable. What's strange is that cheese are also $0.99 extra. I've never been to a place where I had to pay extra for cheese. I popped in here for a quick burger, particularly to get a "Beyond Burger." (You may have heard of these, meatless, made from pea protein, etc) I was disappointed because the burger was overcooked and very dry. With the Beyond Burger you have to cook it for no more than 2-3 minutes per side or it will get tough and dry. I have a feeling that the cooks might be used to having to cook a traditional burger longer for food safety reasons and cooked this non-meat burger just as long. Now that I am trying to eat less meat, I probably won't be having this particular burger other than at home. Also, I thought it was odd that they wouldn't apply my preferred condiments (ketchup and yellow mustard.) I had to do it myself at the table and fiddle with those annoying mustard packets that are impossible to get open and make a mess of your hands. While I feel like it's probably not as good as the usual premium burger chains (Shake Shack, Five Guys, In-n-Out, etc.), I would probably say its at least the same league, but probably at the bottom Shiw: We ordered the Epic Burger with fries and an egg added in. I got the milkshake. The burger was pretty decent - the egg was a perfect addition, yolk was runny and very delicious. My only nit was that the bun seemed a bit too big - we both had a lot of leftover bun with no burger patty remaining at some point. Fries were ok - nothing really special about them. Same with the shake. Dou: Yeah I'd say that while Epic Burger quality-of-food-wise is probably below some of the other burger guys, its definitely higher in terms of value. So for the $9.99 combo the burger is probably bigger than what you'd get elsewhere. Stopped by after me and my girlfriend went to the LA Fitness next door, it was conveniently located and there is street parking (to pay for). The service was 5/5 I will say that. Very friendly staff and kind. The food however did not blow me away. I have had wings from a lot of place before and these were further down the list to me. Could've been my choice in sauces but after a workout anything really tastes good. These didn't taste bad but they just didn't wow me. The wings weren't dry and they weren't tiny but the flavor and texture was off to me. I would go back to try something else on their menu like the epic burger but not there wings. My girlfriend said that the beyond burger was the smallest one she's ever gotten at an epic burger location before and there was little to no mayo and the burger was a bit on the drier side. Five Guys used to be my go to burger place in Evanston but when they closed I needed to find a new burger and fry joint. I turned to Epic and have been really happy with that decision. I've since become a regular at this location and will continue to visit. First of all, I really appreciate that Epic is humane and locally sourced. It's important to show respect to that which sustains us. Food I tend to stick to traditional burgers and have never been disappointed. My dining companion changes it up every time with turkey burgers, chicken sandwiches, and portabellas and has not been disappointed either. The burgers and sandwiches are flavorful and tasty and feel quality. Also, I love the fries. Again, I'm a traditionalist and only get the regular fries (not sweet potato waffle fries) and am always happy with them. They're especially good dipped in some of the epic sauce! The milkshakes are a real treat, too. Service The staff is a pretty friendly bunch and it's nice to walk into an environment where you aren't treated like a burden. Only one issue: they often get the order wrong by leaving off selected toppings. This happens about half of the time and it's not always clear why as everything I wanted is listed on the receipt. If you let them know, however, they'll give you a small bowl with what you need. It's a minor inconvenience but one that they will work to correct. Cost While everyone wants to save a buck, I really have no complaints about the prices at Epic. It is Evanston so things are often pricier but also consider that you're paying for a humane and quality product. All in all, this Epic Burger is pretty great way to spend a couple bucks on a quickish but quality burger-centric meal. I made an online order of a chicken sandwich (no drink or sides) on ChowHound for this location. My order was supposed to be ready at 6:23 pm. I arrived to pick it up just after 6:30 pm. The crew greeted me, but do not have my order ready for whatever reason. They apologized and started my order right away. Because I work on the same block, they offered to bring my order over. I refused a free drink and said it was no problem, I wasn't at all upset. I've worked in food service, these things happen. The staff came by my work maybe 10 minutes after with fries, a drink and my sandwich! Then I was told that they is also refunded my order in full.
