05/19/22 Update: After leaving this yelp review yesterday. I was emailed by Jonathan, I can tell that he really cares about the people who eat at Epic Burger Evanston. He didn't have to do that but, he did. And I appreciate the follow up regarding my concerns. Let me first say that I went to this same restaurant, and had a pleasant experience, I think I met the owners two days ago. Today, was a sh*t show. Ordered my food wait about 20 minutes only for my food to be given to the wrong table. The person it was given to had touched on it, and the cashier tried to bring it to my table. I had to say loudly that, I didn't want the food someone else had touched. I only get a 30 minute lunch break, and I prefer to eat where I order my food if possible. Workers with no gloves on passing out food, and not paying attention. It's sad that I had such a good experience and then came back and had a bad one. I can't say that I would spend my money here again. read more

The overall experience was ok. I went with a group of friends who wanted to check out this new place. The service was good - the staff made sure to explain about the menu and treated us great. Regarding the food we had mixed opinions - some of us liked the burgers but for some of us they were too oily. They put butter on the bun, which I hate because if the meat is good you don't really need any additions, but they don't tell you this. Luckily we had that information from a friend who knows this chain, and so we just asked them not to add any butter. Even without it, the burger was oily, but tasted pretty good. We also ordered milkshakes which were very challenging, as the straws were too thin and so it was really hard to drink. Epic - Please replace the straws! We will not suck it up! read more

Epic Burger just opened where lululemon used to be, right next to L.A. Fitness. It's a nice, large location, with plenty of seating. This is the place to go if you want to eat a burger and still feel kind of healthy- "A More Mindful Burger". It's a "build your own" burger kind of place. 1. You pick your meat- Epic Burger (beef) or Turkey burger (junior $5.29, classic $6.29, double $7.79), chicken sandwich ($6.29) or portobello sandwich ($6.29). These all have no antibiotics and are humanely raised. 2. Pick your bread- white or wheat (locally baked) or bunless (lettuce) 3. Add cheese for $.99- aged cheddar, premium blue, or horseradish havarti 4. Add extras: avocado ($1.29), bacon ($1.49), fried egg ($.99) 5. Add free toppings: grilled onions, raw onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, epic sauce 6. Add fries ($2.49) or a simple side salad with balsamic vinaigrette ($2.49) 7. Add drinks- premium and skinny shakes ($3.99)- vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, peanut butter, malts, bottled ($2.69), fountain ($2.19) OR make it a combo with any classic burger or sandwich with fries or a side salad- fountain drink combo ($9.99), Bottled drink combo ($10.69), shake or malt combo ($11.99) The burgers were pretty good. I got the epic burger with horseradish havarti. It's a pretty decent price unless you want to add on extras, then it can really get expensive rather quickly. Quality is definitely better than other budget burger places, and you won't feel gross afterwards. It's not greasy, and tastes very fresh. Make sure you try the epic sauce! I wouldn't really recommend the fries, they're nothing special. Also, they don't have sweet potato fries. The strawberry shake was okay, but didn't really feel like it was very good value. Personally, I would just go for a burger and get the extra toppings instead of getting fries and a drink! Service was outstanding. They were friendly, helpful, and very courteous. Our waitress/cashier checked on us multiple times throughout our meal and we felt taken care of! If you are a Northwestern student, make sure you show your wildcard for 10% off. Definitely give this new burger joint a try! read more

This was the first time I had ever been to an Epic Burger and I was very pleasantly surprised with how good my selection was. For fast food, it was well prepared, tasty and affordable. I would recommend anyone looking for a good burger or sandwich to give them a try. I will be going back. read more

Awesome burger joint. Glad it came to Evanston. I had the classic burger with an egg (recommend the egg!). Burger: Very Good. Ingredients were very fresh. I really like the grill onions. The cuts are quite big but I sorta liked it. Best part - is the toasted bottom bun. Most places "toast" their buns, but Epic Burger's is very well done. It gives you this extra crisp for each bite. The patty is a good size that also has a solid sear on it. Milk Shake: Strawberry is very good. Very thick and tasty. Straw could be a bit larger so I don't tire myself after the shake. I tried the peanut button and chocolate - good too! Service: The fried egg comes either runny or firm. I ordered runny but it came out firm (both me and my friend). The staff was did offer to take it back but her attitude was alright. The owner/manager came out and apologized and gave us a coupon as well. I generally don't complain but felt a bit brave that day - i thought it was handled pretty well. I feel the owner/manager is very serious about doing well in Evanston and made the effort to do so. Will definitely come back! read more

Service is friendly and fast. Burgers are pretty good. Burger size is decent, a little bigger than Shake Shack burgers for around the same price. But definitely not as big or fancy or yummy as Au Cheval's. The way pricing works is kind of weird. There's a base price for each burger of around $6. Eggs are $0.99 extra, which I think, though not preferred, is acceptable. What's strange is that cheese are also $0.99 extra. I've never been to a place where I had to pay extra for cheese. The other toppings, such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles are all free. Since I came here for a special Dillo deal ($4 for base burgers), I thought was pretty good. But I probably won't come back for the normal prices. read more

Epic's a convenient place to grab a quick meal or takeout. It's located in a very good location in downtown Evanston (steps from Target). The space is large and well-kept. But the portions are on the smaller side. read more

Pretty good taste, but ridiculously overpriced. The base price for a burger is $6.29, and each topping you add will increase the amount you pay by a good deal. You will end up paying around $10 for a burger that is honestly not that filling. I only came here because they had a good deal for Dillo Day, and would probably not want to come back here to pay the full price. Service is good, and the tables are clean. I'll give it that! read more

My first complaint, when I ordered through GrubHub was that a chicken sandwich and a small fry was $21. Second complaint came when I had picked up my food; by the way I did leave a two dollar tip even though it was a pick up order. So my total was $22 for a hot honey chicken sandwich and a small fry. If the quality met the price, I wouldn't really have a problem with this place. I have included a photo of how the cheese looked on my $15 sandwich, seriously you couldn't even put it all the way on? The sauce was mostly on 1/2 of the bun and it was completely sloppy and dripping everywhere, way too wet. And after a few bites, the chicken straight up just fell out of the breading. That's when I stopped eating it. The fries tasted OK, for the 15 or so fries I got for four dollars, again not worth the price. I paid $1.99 to add bacon to my sandwich; when I took a look, it was one slice of bacon cut in half. Cheap asses. Won't be returning unless they take down to their unbelievably insane prices by at least 30% and obviously they won't be doing that. My 2 stars are for the friendliness of the man that handed me my order. read more

I ordered from them via Grubhub and even added a few dollars tip, but what I got was a pure mess: burger was paper-thin and it crumbled over veggies in my box as I got burger without bun . There was no sauce ( even though I checked it on the menu selections) to keep it together. Fries was burned - dark and crispy and barely warm - maybe because they put cold Pellegrino bottle next to my fries! Put 2 and 2 together to maybe think that hot and cold mixed together typically make a lukewarm mess.. Anyways, $17 down the drain and one less hAngry customer to return to this joint. read more

-1 star for not accepting cash. -1 star for dessicated burger patties -- I mean, it's like they'd been hung from the wall for the past century. -1 star for chocolate shakes that don't taste like chocolate. And a fourth -1 for being way overpriced, especially in an area that's lousy with burger joints. Friendly staff, though. read more

Stopped here as staff and myself were compare shopping for prodcts. Ty his looked interesting and cute name. This Review is a little late in appearance. I hope the restaurant is still in business. We were thereust have been after lunch crowd cleared out . Choice of any but 3 seats . We all ordered burgers and I had a shake . Would stop back for shake but neither of us were over we over welmed by the burger. Wonder if after defrosting they shaped the burger. ? But Wendy's has a better burger. The Stars are for the shake . read more

Shiw: Shiw and Dou here, reviewing the newly opened Epic Burger here in Evanston! Dou: So I'm crazy about burgers, and I think this burger is definitely solid enough. While I feel like it's probably not as good as the usual premium burger chains (Shake Shack, Five Guys, In-n-Out, etc.), I would probably say its at least the same league, but probably at the bottom Shiw: We ordered the Epic Burger with fries and an egg added in. I got the milkshake. The burger was pretty decent - the egg was a perfect addition, yolk was runny and very delicious. My only nit was that the bun seemed a bit too big - we both had a lot of leftover bun with no burger patty remaining at some point. Fries were ok - nothing really special about them. Same with the shake. Dou: Yeah I'd say that while Epic Burger quality-of-food-wise is probably below some of the other burger guys, its definitely higher in terms of value. So for the $9.99 combo the burger is probably bigger than what you'd get elsewhere. So while something like Five Guys does taste better (in my opinion, anyways) a meal at Five Guys can get to around $15 bucks if you get the fries and drink. Vile sorcery! Shiw: Lol I think that's just called "math"...but yeah, probably three stars for the food, but four stars for the value. Dou: Thanks for reading! read more

I popped in here for a quick burger, particularly to get a "Beyond Burger." (You may have heard of these, meatless, made from pea protein, etc) I was disappointed because the burger was overcooked and very dry. With the Beyond Burger you have to cook it for no more than 2-3 minutes per side or it will get tough and dry. I have a feeling that the cooks might be used to having to cook a traditional burger longer for food safety reasons and cooked this non-meat burger just as long. Now that I am trying to eat less meat, I probably won't be having this particular burger other than at home. Also, I thought it was odd that they wouldn't apply my preferred condiments (ketchup and yellow mustard.) I had to do it myself at the table and fiddle with those annoying mustard packets that are impossible to get open and make a mess of your hands. I mean, c'mon guys, even McDonald's and Burger King will put the condiments you want on the burger. Epic Burger shouldn't act so bougie that they will only put on the special "Epic Sauce." read more

A staple in my workweek lunches. Staff is nice and quick. I wish they'd bring back this random energy drink they had for a while- high ball I think? ANYway, good sandwiches, plus they offer the beyond burger now which is cool. Eclectic shakes as well! I'll continue to visit and you should too! read more

Staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. If you sign up for their Bite Club you'll get all sorts of freebies. As it turned out, the shake, burger and fries were all gratis for me and I paid $1.09 for the extras on my burger. No cash here which I found annoying. Fries were VERY salty. Clean. Fast. read more

great burgers as well as veggie burgers (I'm an omnivore), excellent fries, and I really appreciate the compostable sustainable packaging.

Stopped by after me and my girlfriend went to the LA Fitness next door, it was conveniently located and there is street parking (to pay for). The service was 5/5 I will say that. Very friendly staff and kind. The food however did not blow me away. I have had wings from a lot of place before and these were further down the list to me. Could've been my choice in sauces but after a workout anything really tastes good. These didn't taste bad but they just didn't wow me. The wings weren't dry and they weren't tiny but the flavor and texture was off to me. I would go back to try something else on their menu like the epic burger but not there wings. My girlfriend said that the beyond burger was the smallest one she's ever gotten at an epic burger location before and there was little to no mayo and the burger was a bit on the drier side. However the fries were AMAZING. I hate to give it a 3/5 but it was just average to me but I would give it a second chance. read more

The burger was so dry that I knew the only thing epic was that I won't be ordering another burger any time soon. I definitely support what this company does. Organic and natural "farm to table" like food. I appreciate this type of business. Their burgers are good. You can customize it any way you want. Decent chicken burgers too. Employees are friendly Drinks are also natural and craft root beers. Love it. But no matter what you do, order the sweet potato cross cross fries. They are SO good. Five Guys used to be my go to burger place in Evanston but when they closed I needed to find a new burger and fry joint. I turned to Epic and have been really happy with that decision. I've since become a regular at this location and will continue to visit. First of all, I really appreciate that Epic is humane and locally sourced. It's important to show respect to that which sustains us. Food I tend to stick to traditional burgers and have never been disappointed. My dining companion changes it up every time with turkey burgers, chicken sandwiches, and portabellas and has not been disappointed either. The burgers and sandwiches are flavorful and tasty and feel quality. Also, I love the fries. Again, I'm a traditionalist and only get the regular fries (not sweet potato waffle fries) and am always happy with them. They're especially good dipped in some of the epic sauce! The milkshakes are a real treat, too. Service The staff is a pretty friendly bunch and it's nice to walk into an environment where you aren't treated like a burden. Only one issue: they often get the order wrong by leaving off selected toppings. This happens about half of the time and it's not always clear why as everything I wanted is listed on the receipt. If you let them know, however, they'll give you a small bowl with what you need. It's a minor inconvenience but one that they will work to correct. Cost While everyone wants to save a buck, I really have no complaints about the prices at Epic. It is Evanston so things are often pricier but also consider that you're paying for a humane and quality product. All in all, this Epic Burger is pretty great way to spend a couple bucks on a quickish but quality burger-centric meal. I'm giving four stars mainly due to the sometimes iffy accuracy but this won't stop me from continuing to patronize Epic Burger. read more

But anywho, the burger was delicioussss. It came with avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, pickle and Epic sauce. The Epic sauce was a beautiful, sweet, mayo type of sauce. I really enjoyed it with my burger but also with my sweet potato fries. Oh man those fries were fresh, soft and realllllyyyy good. It was like they cut the sweet potato in house and cooked it just for me. I'll def be back if I'm ever in the neighborhood. I made an online order of a chicken sandwich (no drink or sides) on ChowHound for this location. My order was supposed to be ready at 6:23 pm. I arrived to pick it up just after 6:30 pm. The crew greeted me, but do not have my order ready for whatever reason. They apologized and started my order right away. Because I work on the same block, they offered to bring my order over. I refused a free drink and said it was no problem, I wasn't at all upset. I've worked in food service, these things happen. The staff came by my work maybe 10 minutes after with fries, a drink and my sandwich! Then I was told that they is also refunded my order in full. They went above and beyond for what was a very minor inconvenience. That's great customer service. read more

Pretty good but pricey. Haven't seen a fast burger joint offer grounded turkey patties but they do! Ordered one and thought it was good.
