I had an appt and waited 20 minutes after my appt time before they told me my stylist had an emergency and they can't find anyone else so they had to cancel. The receptionist didn't make any calls to indicate they actually tried hard to find someone else. They advertise walk-ins so this was very disappointing seeing as I had an appointment, and have a health issue that prohibits me from driving so I had to take a day off of work, work out a ride, and have an event tomorrow which is why I made my appt for that day/time. On top of that, I was not offered parking validation (which they normally do), so I ended up paying for no services provided. read more

Luckily, Envy Studio was able to fit me in and scheduled me for a morning appt with Nikki. The salon was well decorated, clean, inviting, and smelled amazing. Usually I get my hair cut at generic chain places, but recently my wife and I moved to Lancaster. I walked to Envy studios in the late afternoon to finally kill the beast that has smothered my head. The receptionist was attentive and charming. I found the environment quite comfortable, and soon I was in the hands of a stylist. She did a beautiful a job on my hair, and she was so thorough in the cut, continually measuring the length, making sure it was even. It was the best haircut I've ever had. Edward was very thoughtful - offered me coffee and gum, and was sure to make sure I had beverages at hand. I used the groupon, but regardless, felt it was very reasonably priced even without (I used to spend $300+ just on color in SF). I will say it wasn't a perfect experience, although Edward warmed me in advance. His attention to detail meant I was there too long, which threw off my day a bit. I ended up leaving without a blow dry. I also will add (and he warned me) that he's very strong-handed when he washes your hair! Ultimately, I feel I'm pretty discerning when it comes to expensive services, and I was mostly pleased with the end cut and color today. I felt I really got my money's worth with Edward's attention to detail, which was great. But I can't realistically spend that long in the salon again in the future! I am really happy to finally get to write a 5 star review for a salon in Pennsylvania. These are selfish reasons - I don't have to drive 7 hours to get back to my stylist, or overpay for a haircut in a not-so-great salon, or have my bangs cut at an angle. I loved the location and look of the salon which is what enticed me to try it out. For being in center downtown Lancaster, the prices are reasonable, and you get what you pay for. Head massage with shampoo? Yes please! The atmosphere is beautiful - very relaxing and modern. The place is clean and well kept and the stylists have enough room to move around and cut your hair properly. I had my hair cut by Katie, who not only was incredibly nice, but really took the time to make the cut lay right. It's my favorite of the pixies I've gotten over the past year and a half. I'll be happy to call this 'my salon' now and will be coming back again and again. read more

Place is flaky. Twice they didn't know the stylist I booked was off sick or quit. First time I had someone fill in and jacked up my head. A different time they said their credit card machine was down. "I swore we called you in advance to bring cash", they said. No they didnt. Wouldn't let me give credit card over the phone when it was back up, or pay at my next visit even though I was coming there regularly. Made me walk to Orange Street to Allpoint atm in 14° weather. I had come upon this salon with a groupon. I am always a little wary of this since it seems like I have had more bad haircuts than good in the past year. Before purchasing the groupon, I had called to consult with the staff as to who might be cutting my hair. Turns out this regularly busy salon could fit me in with a stylist. I wanted to make sure that she could cut funky hair with a lot of waves. The last time on a groupon at another salon, she gave me a bob and I looked like a 40 year old housewife. Katie consulted with me in the chair to make sure that I got what I wanted. She, herself, had a bit of a different style that I liked. She took a lot of the weight out of my hair bringing it back to like and giving me my curl back. I am so happy, I will absolutely go back!! My old stylist left the salon she worked at, so I decide to try Envy Salon. I went here to get a partial foil and cut. The experience overall was pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of the color (it came out looking very brassy), but my hair pulls red very easily since I have very dark hair naturally. Also, the cut was shorter than I hoped for and explained that I like long layers but felt like the layers were a bit too short and choppy. It was partially my fault because I didn't come with a picture of what I wanted. I just wanted the same thing that I had before at my old place. I tried to verbalize it, but I guess I didn't do a great job. Overall, my experience was okay, but nothing spectacular. read more

Given it was a Thursday and the farmer's market wasn't happening, best I can get out of Lancaster is a good haircut. I was assigned to Michelle and she did a good job, agreeing to use only scissors and cut delicately since my hair is curly and coarse. It came out perfect just like stylists accustomed to doing my hair even though it was her first time. I would be a regular if only I lived close-by. We moved to Philadelphia a year ago and I've struggled to find a salon that can give me trendy hair that isn't too urban for my midwest tastes. I also have colored my hair red for a long time and have become accustomed to a natural looking coppery red that I get lots of compliments on. After some Philly salons I ended up looking like the love child of Ronald McDonald and an Eggplant. My best friend lives in Lancaster and I decided to give a salon there a try. I figured with the artsy vibe of downtown Lancaster hairdressers there could probably do everything from super conservative to super urban and possibly meld the two. I'm so glad I did! My hair turned our beautiful! I can't quite get back to the color I want yet because it was so far off but Megan made my color look natural and like I wanted it to be this color instead of just a stop on the color wheel where I want to go. My haircut was beautiful, I gave her guidelines (trendy but not too crazy) and I couldn't stop staring at myself in the mirror. The salon itself is comfortable, clean, bright, and everybody working was cheerful and there was an easy camaraderie between stylists without feeling like you're a third wheel in the conversation Megan was friendly, easy to talk to and fun. Despite the hour and a half drive for me from Philly I will without a doubt be back. People have complimented my hair like crazy and I finally feel like I'm back in love with my swishy, fun, sassy hair. read more

I hate to give bad reviews but this experience is still semi-annoying me even after 2 weeks that I got my hair done here. I've been going to this salon regularly for about a year, and have always used a local flavor. Nowhere in the fine script does it say that this is for new customers, however this did not prevent the owner from coming to me and telling me this, and that she claimed she said this to me at my previous appointment. How awkward - I felt like I was a scolded child back in middle school. Last appointment she never once mentioned that it's for new clients- just that only certain stylists take them. I'm not sensitive, but after this and some of the looks I got I didn't feel welcome. I understand that yes I'm getting a discounted offer, but it's not like I'm ever a drama queen that demands perfection, and I always tip 18-25% from the full price so it's not like I'm being stingy, and I always end up spending more than the value. Overall aside from this, normally I really like my hair after going here. I have bumped around and had worked with almost everyone and they can highlight and color and cut well enough. I was not pleased with my cut this time because I asked for no framing around the face and got it anyways, but oh well hair grows out. I like that they can change me blonde to black to purple and red and back to blonde at my whim, which a lot of places don't like since it's so much correction. I don't really know if I want to go back - and probably will be even less welcome now that I gave this review haha- I hope that attitudes are a little less stringent for the sake of your other customers read more

The color and cut was ok was a little concerned in the beginning when the stylist didn't seem to know how to go about coloring my hair. I was there for almost 3 hours and I have really short hair. Do not book this place for your wedding hair or makeup. They were absolutely terrible with the worst attitudes and service. First, they made us pay before completing the services and charged gratuity, which clearly left them with no motivation to do a good job, and I certainly wouldn't have tipped as much as they charged after how they treated us. We had the salon from 9 am - 1 pm, and the reason you usually need that much time for wedding prep is for your pin curls to set, but they just used a curling iron, which means that all of the bridesmaids' curls fell flat while the bride's hair was being done. But when the photographer showed up to take some pictures with us while we were getting ready, the stylists packed up their things, turned the music off, and went into their break room - when we wanted to get our curls touched up, we couldn't find them! Unbelievable. But I was most upset by the way the bride was treated. She said her makeup trial made her eyes too dark and she wanted them to look more natural, but the makeup artist still made her eyes too dark, so when she asked for them to be blended more, the artist had a serious attitude about it. The bride did not need to be treated poorly or experience any extra stress on her special day, so I cannot warn against this salon enough if you are considering them for your wedding. Like I said before, we had booked them until 1 pm, but at 12 pm they had packed up and disappeared, even though we all would've liked to have our curls touched up. And even if we didn't, with the music turned off and everyone gone, it felt like we were unwelcome to stay, even though the venue wasn't ready for us to go there yet. So we went next door to a coffee shop. It was a really terrible experience, and I felt so bad for the bride. If this is how they treat their customers, no wonder they charge gratuity upfront. read more

This studio seems to never stop impressing me! It's a great place and they really know what they are doing and put out some high quality work! I've been a customer now for about 6 months and it all started by me deciding to get Hot Head extensions from another stylist from another local salon and it ended up being a nightmare because the stylist wasn't trained and I didn't know this because I was told they were licensed to do Hot Headz. Anyone that has had this service done knows it is very costly so It is very upsetting when you don't get them done correctly and spend all of that money. I called around to other salons since i was new to the area trying to find help because I was in a crisis due to leaving for Mexico to get married in two days! Stacy the owner of Envy helped me out and fit me in her schedule between clients. I'm not sure if they thought they ever see me again but I most certainly went back and now i'm a loyal customer and will not go anywhere else. I feel like family there however still in a very chic and modern motif with professional employees and great structure with coordinating anything you need to get done. I even went along to celebrate their nomination of top ten spa and salon in Pennsylvania which is an awesome and amazing achievement! Oh and they also do makeup ... Lionel is their makeup artist and he is amazing! They had him do a trial a couple months ago because i was going out for the evening so he did up my eyes for me. Well I recently had a photo shoot and of course I went to Lionel and had my airbrush makeup and eyelash extensions done by him. Let's just say my pictures are amazing!!!!!! Stacey and her team at Envy did my wedding hair and makeup, as well as hair and makeup for my mom and most of my bridesmaids, and everyone looked amazing. They created several gorgeous and unique updos for my girls and my mom, and everyone loved their hair. I got an updo and airbrush makeup and received tons of compliments - Stacey helped me look exactly how I wanted to look on my wedding day and my photos turned out gorgeous. While their work is amazing, what really set Envy apart in my mind was the service. Stacey knew my bridal party was taking photos near the studio after our ceremony, and she actually hung around the salon after closing just so she could touch up my hair and makeup before photos - and it was cold and windy that day so it made a huge difference! On top of that, scheduling appointments with Danielle was a breeze, they set up a mimosa bar for us at the salon the morning of the wedding, kept my large bridal party on schedule, and made the entire day relaxing and fun for us. Katie is amazing! She was my stylist today and I could not be happier with my cut. I have very thick wavy hair and have never found a hairdresser who gave me a cut I could wear straight or natural and still have my hair look amazing. She took her time and was so nice to chat with. I really felt like she cared about how my cut looked, she wasn't just going through the motions. I took a chance and booked an appointment with Rachel for an ombre and a cut. I have never looked back. I think Rachel is so good because she offers alternative recommendations if she thinks what you're asking for won't work for you. That's made all the difference for me. She takes the look you want and makes it work for your face shape, skin tone, etc. I can't recommend her enough. I came here in March and had a nice balayage ombré from this place. Here is why I only give it one star: (if this is too long for you, scroll to the last paragraph) I made an appointment for an ombré and haircut. I was enticed even more by the yelp deal of $115 for the value of $150. So I came in in the day of my appointment and asked the young pretty receptionist if they honored that deal. She said yes, but that I would unfortunately not be able to use the voucher because my service would cost $148 and not $150. Bummer, but oh well. I forget the girl who did my hair but she did a good job on the balayage. The highlights blended well and looked nice. I didn't like my haircut, however. I told her that I like a lot of layers and angles, because I have thick Asian hair and it gets weighed down. She then informed me that with my hair type and texture, she doesn't want to give me a lot of layers and angles, and instead proceeded to give me a dull, blunt, one-lengthed haircut that was not flattering at all. Also, I asked for a 2 inch cut, and ended up with about 4 inches cut. I hate when that happens. She asked me how I liked my hair styled. I told her wavy, and she curled my hair and I ended up looking like a poodle with a tight perm. I could tell that even she was embarrassed with the outcome with the way she acted. It's not a big deal to me, however, because I can walk home and and wash my hair and restyle it. Here's what really made me mad. The receptionist tells me that my total is $220. Kind of shocking. Turns out that my stylist decided to do a few extra things without telling me. I ask her if I can use the yelp deal now that my cost is definitely over $150. All of a sudden she picks up a HUGE attitude. She asks me if I can show her the yelp deal on my phone, because she doesn't know what I'm talking about. Well, she seemed to know it when I mentioned it when coming in but, okay, I can pull it up on my phone. After taking my phone with an annoyed and exasperated sigh and the grouchiest face, she takes 5 minutes to scrutinize the deal. I WISH I had a picture of her reading the deal on my phone because she looked PISSED. I felt like I should have been the angry one...anyway, She tells me with the biggest attitude that I can't use the deal because I needed to mention this yelp deal when I made my appointment. I said there is nowhere in the fine print that mentions this. She says it's implied. Oh REALLY. Awesome, I guess I should have been psychic. Just earlier she said I couldn't use it because the cost of my service wouldn't add up to $150, then she pretends like she doesn't know this deal, then she tells me that I needed to mention this while booking my appointment. I was a little frustrated at this point, and before I ask to talk to the manager she tells me that the manager isn't there and that she won't be in that day. At this point, I don't even want to talk to her anymore so I pay what I owe, which totals to $260 after tip. I had the worst experience here and will never return again. read more
