When it finally came time for us they were in such a rush they didn't even ask what pedicure service we wanted. Our nail techs were clearly trying to get us out of the chair as quick as possible and in the process filed my big toe so fast and hard she broke skin!! The nail tech didn't acknowledge or apologize for nicking me. I'm thankful it didn't hurt or get infected. She slowed down a bit after sanding off my skin, but didn't give much attention to the rest of my nails before polishing. Midway through my partners pedicure, the tech walked away and my girl was left to finish his pedi. This wasn't a relaxing or enjoyable experience. The lack of music made it feel strange too. My friends/coworkers go here. It's close to our work, affordable, and they offer massages with manis. The problem is, the services they offer change on how busy or understaffed they are, but the price for service doesn't. My friends got relaxing shoulder/back massages. I was borderline tortured. My cuticles were cut so much that I bled. They weren't bad to begin with. She just kept cutting and rinsing the blood off in the water bowl, then wiping it on the towel. When the alcohol hit my cuticles it burned like hell. That's when I realized it was no bueno. Then the "massage" came. She pressed/rubbed so hard that I have bruises on my forearms right before vacation. "Is she a heroin addict, or did she just get a mani at Envy?" The latter portion of the massage involved punching me up and down my arm to my shoulders. That didn't relax me until I was walking to my car. The polish itself seems decent. I could not be more pleased with a manicure and pedicure then I am at Envy Nails. I have been going to this salon since it opened a few years ago. I am most interested in the job they do on my nails ... and I have never had less than a great manicure. Not just acceptable mind you, but great. I am a perfectionist, so nail polish on the skin around my nails or the color not coming right down to my cuticle would not make me happy. The salon owner Is always trying to please everyone and does a good job. The manicurists are Vietnamese, the people who have a problem with them speaking another language baffle me. We are there to get a manicure and pedicure and be served in the best way possible. Not to chat away with the manicurists. The owner has invested a lot of money in the shop and continually strives to make it better by fresh paint and other upgrades. They just invested in amazing massage chairs. I would pay to just sit in the chair for a half hour, that's how good they are. Along with the massage chairs the pedi basins are all new and are kept very clean. As cleanliness is important to me at a nail salon, I am also aware that they sterilize their instruments after each use. Envy Nails has a large selection of OPI and other top quality polishes. They will sell you at a very reasonable cost the same color so you can in fact do touchups at home. For the past few years I have been doing shellac and my manicures last three weeks. I believe that this is not just because they use good polish but they do use a basecoat, polishes, a good topcoat, and take the time to allow your hands to stay under the lamp long enough for the polish to cure. They do not rush you through a manicure or pedicure. The massages are thorough and very relaxing. If I have one complaint is that they take a long time to massage your legs for a pedi and your hands and arms during a manicure :-) are usually have to tell them "OK, that's enough!" Five stars are well-deserved. read more

I've lived in Portland proper for a decade. If you include suburbia, I've lived in the Portland area for almost 15 years. That's a long time. For a majority of that time, I had a disposable income. And while I no longer have the cash to spring for pretty colors on my digits as frequently these days, I definitely find my way to nail salon several times a year (especially in the summmmmmertime). Every nail salon I've been has been okay. No place made me want to swear my loyalty. Until I went to Envy Nails last week. What has given my bees their knees? I'll tell you: * They take credit cards. Again, as a person who doesn't make cold hard cash anymore, a nail salon that takes debit or credit cards is automatically on my good list. * They are suuuuuper nice. Sometimes you'll get people who keep trying to upsell you, but these ladies just did their thing and were sweet the whole time. * They have yellow nail polish. Not unique, perhaps, but totally feeds my current yellow fetish. * They give you a massage! The lady doing my nails came out from behind her desk while painting my nails and actually massaged my neck and shoulders for a few minutes. Blissful. * Prices are competitive: for a mani/pedi, I spent $35, plus tip. * Envy Nails is just down the street from my house, and convenience plays a big role in where I end up. I have natural nails and their application of shellac normally last at least 3 weeks before I start to get peeling ( as long as I am not doing any household projects that mess up my nails). I've only been to two nail salons in my life before walking into Envy Nails for my third experience. Overall, this was a fine experience. It was a great treat for the end of a day full of errands, and I feel much more relaxed thanks to those calf, foot, hand, and arm massages! I would be perfectly content to walk-in for another spur-of-the-moment appointment in the future. I requested the basic Mani/Pedi, which only costs $35. My appointment was a walk-in, and they spent about an hour and a half on me! Lovely. The chairs work great, but take a minute to figure out, which can be awkward if you're stopping in alone, surrounded by cool strangers who clearly have a better grasp of the massage chair world than I. The person who worked on me never introduced herself, and was quite shy. For me, that worked just fine, because I didn't feel up to sweating a conversation while trying to unwind. She was quite good at the massages! She massaged my calves/feet with an exfoliant, as well as a lotion, which was unexpected, but welcome. They were somewhat busy while I was there. Every employee was working on someone. That led to a couple of odd things happening during my service. 1. The person doing my nails had to excuse herself once in awhile to help a customer checking out, answer the phone, etc. Again, I didn't mind, they were obviously busy, and I was a walk-in, just happy to have gotten a spot! 2. The ambient music, which was quite soothing and fitting for a place aiming for relaxation/pampering, stopped playing about halfway through my appointment, and we all sat together in silence for about 40 minutes until I left. I like to think everyone was so intently focused on providing their services, that when the music stopped playing, it didn't even register. Since I was a walk-in, I didn't come prepared. I needed to get a pair of the foam flip-flops to make it home with a preserved pedi. They were perfectly happy to provide them to me, and helped me put them on without bumping my toes against the strap. Unfortunately, one of the flip-flop's threads started to loosen up as I walked to my car! Yikes! The strap completely fell apart when I was about 50 feet from my front door. I took it off and rushed to my front stoop, broken neon yellow flip-flop in hand. It must've been a great scene for my neighbors. Not a big deal, obviously, since they aren't made to last, but it would be great if they had some that would withstand about 100 steps so they can serve their purpose and I won't have to walk barefoot on the ground. In seeing the job done after getting home, I can say that the nail polish is on a few spots on my skin around the nails, so the execution isn't exactly perfect. It's all hardly noticeable, so I don't mind. Although, this is a contributing factor into my overall score for my experience. Will update once I know how long the nail polish lasts me. read more

I've found one other place in the metro area I love. And I think this place just beat it out. I took my daughter there for a special birthday treat. We each got a mani/pedi. While the girl doing my daughter's services didn't take quite as long as my girl did, she still did everything I had done. And she painted little flowers on her nails. They take their time. We were there for just over 2 hours including drying time. The massage is the best part. Everyone did a very long massage, even massaging all the way up my arms. It was heavenly. They didn't use the UV lights for my nails (some people like them, some don't, just so you know what to expect.) They do the new shellac polish as well for an additional fee ($10 I think) which I didn't feel up for. So pedis, cause this is why most of us go... They did a good job, no scrub, which I would have preferred. She didn't take a long time on my feet, getting them smooth. But the massage more than made up for it. She used a combo of oil and lotion so my legs were like butter afterward! The massage chairs are very nice, even have the leg (butt) massage part. She clipped back my cuticles, which not all places do and I appreciated. The girls are not very talkative, the English wasn't strong and I'm assuming that's why they were quiet. It was very relaxing. The center of the shop has the cash wrap and is kind of awkward. But all in all, there is more than enough space. It's pretty standard nail shop decor, cheesy pictures on the wall, elevator music playing, i think there was a TV on the wall but I cant be sure. I don't go to watch TV! As a point of notice, they do take credit/debit cards but only for purchases over $10 and if you get an inexpensive service (for example, when I got my brows waxed) they had to go to 2 different girls to make change. Not a big deal, just be aware. I have already made an appointment to go back again. There are usually several girls working and when I had scheduled an appointment, they were prompt. Looking forward to my next service. Update: Took my guy for a pedi. He has hobbit feet. The girl didnt even wince. Just dove right in and tackled his toe nails and dry skin. I agree with some of the commenters that it is possible to wind up with a technician who isn't as skilled/gentle as the others, yet I have had this exact same experience at every salon I have been to in my life. I give specific directions to whomever does my nails, regardless of the salon, and since I have started doing that, I have never been cut again (i.e. "please don't over trim my cuticles, only focus on the ones that really need it and leave the others alone"). They are very friendly here and take their time, unlike the huge place across street closer to 28th and Broadway that rushes and shoves people in and out as quickly as possible to make as much money as they can (yeah, you know what place I'm talking about). I never feel rushed or hurried along in here, ever. It is also very clean in here, which I really appreciate. This is the only salon I go to now. read more

I'm a War Vet and an American Gentleman from Los Angeles who gets the pedi/mani twice per month, for years. This is the best spot I've ever experienced. There is not another place outside SE Asia that will massage you like that for this kind of money. Screw these comments about the decor. I go to Vegas for all my glam and glitz. And I go to Envy nails for the superior service to my nails, cuticles, AND toes, soles, feet, fingers, palms, hands, forearms, and SPIRIT. I'm sure all the ladies are awesome. My first, and only experience here was with Tracie. She used all kinds of expert gadgets, scrubbers, and moisturizers that other salons would never use. She really took her time with me, and gave special attention to every detail of every digit. The cuticle work is flawless, in every respect. Perfect and consistent nail shaping. Gentlemen don't get polish, of course, but she buffed the nail ridges out with the masculine finish on the surface (nicely buffed, but not shiny). Then she gave me a super long massage. I don't know how long it was, because I was in Heaven at the time. I highly recommend Envy Nails for ladies or gentlemen. I won't go anywhere else in Portland from now on. read more

Do NOT go to this salon- there is only one person (the male owner) who does acrylic nails and he often loses his temper with customers. I had been here before, but this last time will be my very LAST time- l had acrylics done again by the same man, he nicked my cuticles once again, they bled, and he would not put shellac on during my pedicure. Guess he didn't want to carry his UV shellac dryer over to the pedicure station. I had to wait till he was done with another client until he would paint my nails. This made me late to another engagement, he did a rushed and crappy job (one hand's shellac was way lighter than the other hand) and he said, "Oh, sorry, come in tomorrow and l will repaint your nails in any color shellac for free." The next day the polish was already chipping off. I came in, he said it would be an hour. I said l am sorry, l cannot wait that long and l could return the next day. He lost his temper and barked orders at the several female employees sitting around (one employee was cross-stitching some craft thing). The craft stitcher eventually came over and meekly repainted over the top of my chipping shellac polish- forget about changing the color! He then barked orders at the female employee and she said to me $7. Are you freaking kidding me!?!?! I reminded him about being there the day before and what he had told me!! Free change of shellac, any color!! He said, "No!! And wagged his finger at me, blowing his top again." I said no way dude, you seem to have forgotten what you said to me before. He said l remember!! And exploded once again. It was humiliating to be yelled at in front of other customers- NEVER again will l step foot in this pompous, rude man's salon again. I've been to Envy 3 times. They are incredibly attentive and I will definitely continue going to them. It is a peaceful, clean, and nice-smelling place and I always feel relaxed in there. Be aware that pedicures can take a LONG time. I've spent 1 hour 15 minutes in there just for a pedicure before. It's blissful if you have the time :) I dropped a star off because they did my manicure while I was getting the pedicure. I was looking for a pedicure since it's warming up and therefore flip flop weather. I'm no expert by all means however it was the worst pedi I've ever received. Not enough time spent on my heals, a sad attempt to massage my legs/feet and the overall attention/interaction was very awkward. I've never had someone attending to me while on a phone call/ear-piece. My heels feel tougher than when I arrived which is why I went in the first place. The price is right!! $25 for a shellac manicure & $45 for a shellac mani with regular pedi. The staff is nice. The massage chairs are ok. I always seem to get the loud one, but whatever. My shellac mani usually lasts two weeks without chipping which seems reasonable. (I serve tables, so my hands are constantly being washed or grabbing towels out of sanitary buckets.) It's pretty easy to just be a walk-in if you go during a week day, but I recommend an appt if you go on the weekend, and they tend to overlap appts a little bit, so prepare to probably wait 15 min or so even with an appt. read more

Best nail salon in Portland! I was hesitant to review on yelp because I didn't want to let the secret out of the bag. I've already noticed them getting busier and busier. But the women who run this place are the sweetest and very hard working so I want them to get lots of business becuase they defintley deserve it! I've been to my share of nail salons in Portland trying to find "the one". My first time here I knew I'd found it. The place is small and they care about every single customer. Its clean and organized. All the woman who work here are extrmeely nice and always smiling. They all are very detail oriented and take great care in each step. I've gotten regular manicures, shellac manicures, pedicures and leg/eyebrow waxing. The shellac manicures I've gotten here have lasted longer than anywhere else I've ever gotten them. They also take the shellac off correctly so it doesn't hurt your nails. The pedicures are the best because half of the time is spent giving you a foot massage. It's a real treat!!! And did I mention the price is right? This place is definitely a winner! read more
