I came in with my friend Kami and my mom for a mani pedi before my wedding! My mom and I got amazing pedicures before my friend and I went to get our fingernails done. The massage chairs are amazing! And I got the best smelling lavender scrub on my legs! I did just a regular pedicure (white) and it's holding up super well! And I did gel for my fingernails for only the second time ever. I opted for a classic french tips and it looked so good on my wedding day and is perfectly intact now which wasn't my experience with my other gel manicure from another place in Portland. A pleasant enough experience getting manicures for 3. Like most places, they seem to be understaffed and we had one nail artist for our party of 4 which resulted in one deciding, after 45 minutes, she didn't need a manicure worth that wait. I was happy with my results and recommendations from the gal who did my nails. If I lived in the area, I'd probably find another place with a bit more atmosphere and more technicians on staff. read more

I strolled over on a Sunday not even realizing they are normally closed. They happen to be inside that day and they buzzed me in and let me know they aren't typically open Sunday but would call me in a few hours when they could squeeze me in. She was so kind she called me a few hours later letting me know I could come back to get my eyebrows done. Tonight Mai went above and beyond. I didn't do my research or know what time they closed but decided I needed a pedicure and I saw the shop on my way to the movies yesterday. Anyhoo, I showed up well past when they closed and Mai was already on her way to her car and saw me looking longingly at the shop with the lights off and clearly closed for the night. She asked if I wanted to get my nails done and said it was no problem because someone had called and never showed even after waiting 15+ minutes for them. I would've been happy to come back tomorrow but she insisted. She was really nice, friendly, and did an excellent job on my pedi & shellac mani. Definitely a fan!! After reading the great reviews for Zen Nails, I finally had the chance to stop in and try them out. I completely agree with the previous reviews! The staff were very friendly and nice, plus my nails turned out amazing. I've been getting Shellac and had bad experiences with sensitivity to other salon's products but didn't have any sensitivity issues at Zen Nails. I've had my nails done for almost 2 weeks and barely any peeling of the polish and still getting compliments on how great my nails look. I used to go to the salons around 23rd, 21st, and the Pearl because I couldn't find a good nail salon near St. Johns. I will definitely go back to Zen Nails for their great service and very reasonable pricing. Hannah worked on my nails last time and did a fabulous job. I would ask for her again! They are opened 10 - 7, but I found out they can come early or stay late as long as you call ahead. I am so glad I gave Zen Nails a try. read more

I visited the salon for the first time on Thursday morning. The lady that did my pedicure was so rough on my toes. I've had many pedicures in my life and this is by far the worst! They handle deluxe service like it's second nature; massaging my calves masterfully and fixing nail issues no one else could handle no matter how long they had to treat. Discretion- understood. I'd give negative stars if I could. Pushy ladies kept trying to make me do acrylic. Then I got charged $75 for a basic shellac mani pedi. The only difference is the polish type and process. It looks good, but nothing about the experience was outstanding at all. I totally just got taken advantage of, and I'll never be back. Oh, and per Oregon salon standards, each person is supposed to have their own tools and there is supposed to be a germicidal in between pedicures. Saw none of that. Overall, what a waste. Btw, the 6% tip was just you let you know I didn't forget to tip. That's just the kind of tip you get for BS service and overcharging. Waxing is lack-luster. I just moved into the area and have visited a few of the other local nail salons in ST John's which were all terrible so this was sort of my last resort before moving into a different district to try. I needed and was quoted $35 for 1/2 leg, 10 for brows and $20 for underarms. The girl who did my legs took forever. I'm a licensed esthetician. I wanted to grab the stick and show her how it's done!!! A strip at a time about the size of your palm! Whole thing took 40 minutes.. ugh. Looking at her station, I know State Board would shut down that sloppy pigsty in a minute. Everything needs to have a lid and stored and organized properly which wasn't happening here. And she's a double dipper. Gross. Then as I left, I found a huge glob of wax in my hair that she didn't tell me about. The owner had to oil it out. AND charged me $5 more for my legs because she was I was "hairy" (dude, you can't even see my leg hairs normally. I just go to keep it smooth). Yeah, no thanks. I can drop $70 bucks in a cleaner, more quality place. read more

Not sure what happened? New owners, maybe? Went in today around 3 and was immediately asked if I had an appointment. I said no, and the two people working said something to each other in Vietnamese before the man said, "Okay, pick a color." I picked a color and sat down and a few minutes later their appointment walked in. He must have realized he was going to end up causing his appointment to be delayed 45 minutes because he whizzed through my pedicure in about 10 minutes total. No cuticle or clean up, no second coat of polish, no top coat. I was surprised when he actually started putting on the nail polish. I've been getting pedicures for years and this was definitely the fastest and most incomplete I have ever experienced. All of this for $30. I wish he would have just told me that they couldn't fit me in rather than do a super rush job on a small luxury. The positive is that it looked really clean, but I'm not sure since it all went by in a blur. read more

This is my favorite nail salon! They always do a great job and are so sweet! Anytime I've gone anywhere else, I'm left disappointed. Either they don't cut my nails right for my pedicure and I get an ingrown toenail, try to fix it and just jack it up more or they leave weird bumps with the gel manicure and I have to go home and file it down. But at Zen, they are perfectionists! I go there and the pedicures are amazing, they fix any jacked up nail and my toes are once again happy, and they are very careful with the gel manicure and any stray polish is taken care of right away. After my last botch job I decided that I refuse to go anywhere else! It's just a waste of money, and I'd rather get it down correctly here. read more

I got a gel mani and a pedi from zen nails 4 days ago. $30 for a basic pedicure (absolutely no extras like hot stone, etc) and $30 for a gel manicure is pricey, but earning a fair wage is important, so if they had done a good job, I would feel fine about it. However, my gel does not look like it was done professionally - the sides of each nail are unpainted, and the tips of two nails are already chipping 4 days later. For some that may be normal, but I do not pick at my nail polish, and my gel manicures usually stay perfect until they are just too grown out and I have to replace them. Now, after paying a premium price for bad quality, I'm going to have to go spend more money way too soon to have someone else take it off and redo it. Frustrating! read more

I love this place. I come in every two weeks and get a shellac manicure. Sometimes I'll go a little bit longer, depending on my schedule and they always remember my name. They remember that I like to keep my nails short and they always know that I'm going to get shellac. It's a small shop, which I love, as it tends to make it a little more intimate. No television to distract you like in many other shops; not a whole bunch of people surrounding you, very quiet, very relaxing, very well worth the price. The pedicures are absolutely wonderful. I have the worst and most unattractive feet and these ladies always make me feel comfortable when I'm getting a pedicure. The pedicures Run $35 to start and my feet always end up looking absolutely delightful. Many a time, I have popped in to see if they had any openings and they always are able to accommodate me. The longest I've ever waited was 15 minutes, just enough time to get myself a coffee. The salon is spotless and their sanitation standards are among some of the best I've seen in the city. Even if I didn't live in the neighborhood, I would make the drive to come here. read more

I called ahead and they were able to get me in within the hour. I especially appreciate this because most places will tell you to come right in but then make you wait an hour for the next available. Prices are average. They did an acrylic fill on my nails. She did a beautiful job and I am very pleased. Even fixed a broken nail with a tip, they look great. I brought my own polish because I am going through a charcoal gray phase and wasn't sure if they would stock my color. But they did have a substantial collection of polishes and it wouldn't be too hard to find a cute one. The real reason I love them so much: I forgot my wallet and my 21 yr old son brought it by and I convinced him to get a pedicure for the first time. For the last couple years he has had ingrown toenails on his small toes and they have caused him great pain and discomfort. The nail technician did such a great job trimming the nails and he still can't believe there has been no pain for a week now. I think Zen Nails has made believers out of both of us! I've been a couple of times for pedicures, and I really like the place. They are great about handling walk-ins, communicate well, and do a fantastic job on callouses. The polish lasts very well, too. Pedis are $25. The one area where I feel they could improve is in the selection of polishes. The options are somewhat limited. Regardless, I will be back, many times! read more

Moved to a town near by and needed a new set really bad after moving and having them break and what not. Found a couple of places and everyone was booked except for Zen Nails, so I thought I would give it a try. Started off with really bad service. Wasn't even asked if I wanted a beverage even though they showed they offered that, wasn't even given colors to look at while I waited.. To get the fastest set I've ever received. I wasn't even there for a total of an hr, and the nail tech did them so fast, and when I asked to have certain things fixed or redone it was a fight. I was very very unhappy and couldn't even believe I had to pay money for these. Super thick, bumpy, uneven, not completely painted, completely not almond shape and BEYOND sloppy. I was baffled and have never experienced this ever at any salon. Will not be returning and I would really second guess this salon and find somewhere else to go. read more

Mai is amazing!! I went here for the first time today, looking for a salon closer to home. She nailed exactly the way I like it! My nails look beautifully clean cut and pretty. She cut them to the length I prefer and got the shape perfect. The staff was friendly over all and the prices and quality would be incredibly hard to beat. Oh, they are also open on Sundays! Let me just start off by saying my eyebrows have been a disaster for as long as I can remember. oh yeah, from going to numerous salons I went from extremely thin eyebrows, patchy, and uneven eyebrows. I decided to go to Zen Nails after over hearing a girl with awesome eyebrows rant about how awesome the place is. Even though the place is called Zen Nails don't be fooled! They are unexpected amazing at reshaping and shaping eyebrows. Unfortunately my eyebrows are thin but one of the employees shaped them so nicely! I'm glad I came in when I did. There were only 2 girls working and even though it says walk ins are welcome, they turned away at least 4-5 people who came in. I've never been to a nail salon where they turn people away, they at least could have gave them a time to come back. As far as my service, I got a mani and pedi and it was not good. She cut my nails and toenails way too short and uneven. All of the nail polish was old and the color didn't go on well. I got gel for my manicure and in less than a week it was chipping off.
