Environmental solar re-installed my pool solar panels after we had our house re-roofed. Everything went well up until a storm blew the panels off our house! The panels damaged some of the ducting on the roof and we had parts scattered all over the yard. Luckily the panels didn't damage our cars or hurt anyone. Eddie sent his team out straight away (which is great) to inspect and they promised to get back to me. I've been ghosted for 2 months now. No response via email, or phone call. We had a new roof installed by Immaculate Roofing, and they highly recommended Environmental Solar Design (ESD) and Eddie to replace our old pool solar system. ESD removed the old rubber solar and when the roof was completed, they replaced it with a new Heliocol pool solar system on three separate roof areas (see photo). They installed a solar water-heating system for our pool 11 years ago. Worked well for years but then it started to leak. That's to be expected. Made an appointment with their service department. They didn't show up. I called them at the end of the day (they didn't call me) and they said they'd be there the next day. Then they didn't show up again! This happened 3 times. They finally showed up, claimed they couldn't find the leak and charged me $180 for the service call. The next morning it was leaking again. Seems the pump had to be on for awhile before it started leaking. It took them a FULL WEEK before they could come out again. They finally found the time and fixed it after I showed them a video on my iPhone of the leak. I get the bill a few days later -- full price for the service call. No discount for missing the appointment FOUR TIMES. Okay, times are tough. Businesses need all the money they can get. BUT no apology for having repair techs who aren't smart enough to run the pool pump longer than 5 minutes find a leak? A leak was DEFINITELY THERE. Puddles of water don't appear every day by themselves. Yet these guys assumed the the system just FIXED ITSELF rather than keep looking for the leak was definitely there. read more

So grateful for Bob and his team. I had what I thought was a very odd old solar water system. I'd searched the area on and off for literally 8 years looking for someone who knew what the system was and could, if nothing else (and I knew this was the only option), remove it. Now, because we want to paint our house, we needed to repair some roof damage that was apparently caused in part by these leaking old panels. Jeff came out and knew the system well, and ID'd the issue quickly and appeared confident that they could handle things without issue. A few days later, a team arrived and, although it was not easy, they knocked it out of the park. The panels are gone, my holding tanks are gone, and the system is put back together like the solar system was never there. The system leaked for years and had to keep being repaired. We eventually had it removed totally. Turns out it was incorrectly installed so it never drained properly and what they said were animal bites causing leaks was actually cracks from water freezing inside the system over the winter. They also told us they installed a variable speed pump that we paid for and apparently didn't (we have now learned). The idea of the system is great. Find another company to do it for you. read more

I just completed the installation for Solar, to heat my pool. I also have gas heating but gosh if it is expensive! Now it is warm at all time. I made the right decision to go with Environmental Solar Design! They were very flexible to accommodate my schedule (I was re-doing the roof at the same time). They stay on budget and on time and follow me through the inspection process even when it wasn't previously discussed. Had our solar pool heating installed about two years ago. Still working very well and one of the best investments if you have a pool; it not only extends your pool season, but makes the swimming experience that much more enjoyable. We even heat our spa with solar savings tons on gas. Bob and crew were responsive and efficient, and Bob came himself to inspect the job which I appreciate when the owner shows up himself, and actually gets on the roof to check in. The only wrinkle was that they couldn't program their system to be managed through my Aqua Link WiFi pool control, so Bob sent out and paid for a separate tech guy shortly after the install to finish the programming. read more

Environmental Solar installed solar panels on our roof to help heat our pool. These are filled with water and dump warm water in the pool when they get to our preset temperature. Having these panels has saved us a ton of money and our pool feels like the Caribbean Sea. Also, their customer service is the best. Gaye is amazing and will quickly schedule you in or solve whatever problem you might have. The service dept is technologically savvy and could easily work on our smart home.When everything was completed the owner Bob checked in to make sure we were happy with the job. We had our pool solar installed by Environmental Solar design about seven years ago. At that time we were impressed by the efficiency and promptness with which they installed the system. More recently I had to call them because there was a serious issue (due to the excessive heat!) with some pipes. They had a crew out the very next day and all of the damaged pipes were replaced for a reasonable price. The crew were friendly and efficient. In discussions, we decided to replace and expand our 16-year-old system and they gave us an estimate. We were very pleased with how they worked with our roofer to get the panels removed and new panels reinstalled. When I get a small leak they are great about advising and giving me small parts that are unique to the system and cannot be purchased elsewhere. I did two big houses with Environmental Solar My solar panels are still under warranty by Environmental Solar anyways I ask them to come to check on a leak, they told me I need to change the pipes which are leaking and they are not covered, OK, I accepted and they send me an estimate for changing pipes after 4 weeks calls and back and forward even I talked to BOB the manager few times they told me that they are busy and can't take care of it, my advice to you is if you want to install solar STAY AWAY from mickey mouse companies like "Environmental Solar" by doing so you will save time and money read more

Used them to install pool solar panels and the service was very good. After 2 years noticed a leak on the roof so called them as this would still be covered under warranty. They tried their hardest to get out of the warranty saying it only covered the panels (which was the part that was leaking) so I refused to pay the $180 call out charge. We had a beautiful pool that had become the world's largest dog bowl. It was just too cold--too much initial chill, my wife would say--to get in unless it was was mid-August and 100 degrees in the Valley. So, it sat. Most of the time--a huge drinking bowl for my Australian Cattle Dog, which seems immune to the chlorine. About two months ago, I bit the bullet and started my quest to heat the pool with solar--calling around to companies I had searched out on the internet. Four companies responded, two showed up to give bids, and Bob Ellis' Environmental Solar got the job. (Note: First time I came across Bob or his company was in a google search.) Of course, I was nervous about heating my pool with a solar system: we're talking thousands of dollars here--and the prospect of putting holes in my roof, replacing my pool pump, and, did I mention, spending thousands of dollars? I also hate getting screwed by contractors--not that its happened all that often. But, usually, in a complex job--at least for me as a homeowner--there are occasional obstacles to manage. And contractors have a huge negative stereotype that is somewhat imbued with reality. And problems in construction projects often come with dollar amounts associated with them. Fact-- we don't have the money to make a lot of mistakes. No one I knew had done this sort of home improvement project, and so I had no personal recommendation to go on. My ass was hanging out there on a big job that I wanted to work out perfectly. it came pretty close. And when we're talking reality, that's pretty damn good. Bob and one of his "guys" measured the pool and our south-facing roof, duly noted our pre-existing solar plumbing, which I had installed when we built our pool, and within a day I had a proposal. I mulled it over, did my internet due diligence by trying to research the FAFCO solar panels vs. the Israeli-made Heliocol panels Environmental Solar installs, and decided the Heliocol were going to be fine--both brands had been in existence for a awhile, each had some pros and cons, and since I wasn't going to be able to talk to someone who had compared them in working models for 10 years, I jumped on Ellis' proposal. Sure, it was a little goofy with a "Mother's Day" discount structure, but in the end it seemed the smartest move. I negotiated a bit because I'm a man and why not negotiate, and Bob agreed. I felt like I won a reasonable concession, which is always a good thing. I also replaced my pool pump--still in working order--with a variable speed pump, which turned out to be a plus (it's super quiet, keeps the heated water flowing when it needs flowing, and works superbly with the temperature control system). We scheduled the job--earlier than I expected, due to a cancellation--and the crew were professional from the get go. They respected our new landscaped pool-side backyard, installed the necessary plumbing and electrical in a tidy, professional way that looks well-done. I've got a three-year warranty on the install, but the install suggests to me I won't be needing it. The panels on the roof, which I believe have a decade warranty, certainly are an obvious addition to the roof of our house in the rear, but the pipes are all painted to blend in to my roof and house, and the crew left nothing out of place. You have to look to notice it. Was everything about the install perfect? Not exactly. We had a slight bump in the road when the crew had trouble pulling an electrical wire through a conduit that had been installed a few years before--I ended up bringing in an electrician to make that happen. It's the kind of thing you think will sour a job, but it didn't--Bob had offered to re-route the conduit for an additional charge, but, as it turned out, it wasn't necessary. Phew. That's what I meant about a problem that can otherwise spoil a project; but, reality, remember, is never the smooth sailing ship we fantasize it will be. Once the conduit wiring was done, Bob's top installer finished off connecting the roof sensor to the electrical controls near my pool equipment, painted the pipes to match the side of my house, and gave me a tutorial on the system. ...which, simply enough, has been keeping our large, 1950s-era, remodeled "Valley" pool at perfect temperatures. It just runs, automatically--and, I particularly enjoy checking out the digital readout to see the water temperature. It's gone over 90 in June, which means even my wife gets in the pool now. Overnight, the pool cools down 10 or so degrees, but it's still beautiful to swim in at 10pm. And, the next day, the pool pump goes on to filter and the water flows through the roof panels and its pretty much magic the way the pool water warms up in just a few hours. Cesar and his crew just left my house. I can't say enough good things about them. From the first site visit to this installation, there has been excellent communication with the company and I had the personal attention of Bob Ellis, the owner. My condo association wanted a second bid, so I got one from another company. The product that Environmental Solar offered was far superior and the installation method much more professional. We had a system that was 30 years old and leaking. ESDI removed the old system, hauled it away, interfaced to the new one and completed it all in one day. I was also able to gain 100 more square feet of panel surface which will help with the overall efficiency. Very happy and feel comfortable that service after the sale will be there if I need it, but there is so little to go wrong, shouldn't need any for another 30 years. read more

Went here today after ordering some parts last week, ended up leaving empty handed and an hour late. I arrived after they opened, but was told the 1 person who does fills orders was not in. There was the woman in the office (who I was speaking with) and about 4 men in the back who were loading a small truck up; one of the men came in and offered no help. The woman said the right person should be in soon, and was usually already there. I spent an hour waiting outside in my car (after telling the woman I would do so) and calling every pool/solar place I could find. After an hour I went back in to see if they were ready, but she said no, not at all concerned and not at all helpful. This is by far the worst customer service I've experienced recently. I had initially given them some leeway, thinking they were setup for installs and not for selling to the public, but based on the previous reveiw it looks like they don't do that well either. read more

ESD installed solar panels 8 years ago. When we were told we had a leak by the roofer we were told by ESD if there was a leak there would be no charge since it was under warranty. Repairman comes to the house, turns on the solar, and says there is no leak. He then charges us for a house call. Never does he say to make sure to check the panels as they may start to leak. Luckily, I felt uncomfortable with his evaluation and one hour later I go around to side of house where panels are and sure enough, the panels are leaking. Different repairman comes back and in 5 minutes repairs the leak under warranty. I feel like I was scammed on the original house call charge. When I complained they said they understood my view but ultimately did not reimburse me. I can not recommend a company that treats clients this way. read more

I had my pool heating system installed by this guys. The first couple years was awesome my gas bills was reduced by say about 30%. My headache begins when I started getting leaks from the collectors/solar panels. It is covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The problem is not from the warranty of the system but the service requests to repair the collectors. The last request that I made took them 5 days before they got into my place & when the service crew arrived, they just shut down the system because they don't have the necessary materials to fix the leak. So I have 5 days of leaks on my roof. Another reason why it takes them forever to do the service is because I am about 40 miles away from their shop. So to not waste the costs of gas, they will have to wait for service calls close or on the way to where I am located. I've talked to one of the service techs explained to me the cause of the delay..to cut the story short it's the "boss's order"...yeah right. I have no regret buying the system but my biggest mistake is I chose the wrong company to install it. So people watch out make sure you make a couple of phone calls before you go ahead with them. BTW the name of the owner is Bob Ellis..he'll sweet talk you all the way until he gets you to sign the contract..Good Luck to all of you who have a system installed by this group. read more

I recently had solar installed per city requirements for a pool. This company was hired by my contractor. They decided that they would put the solar panels where they felt it was easiest for them and not where they had been approved by the city. Now they are in full street view and I'm getting complaints from my neighbors. ESD has REFUSED to correct their mistake and the sales rep yelled at me telling me it's my fault. I do not recommend this company and will be making formal complaints about their violation of my plans! read more

Prior to getting solar pool we were not able to completely enjoy our pool as it was not always a comfortable temperature to use and there were cold pockets. I like to be spontaneous when I swim and heating a pool with a pool heater takes time. There were days I would spend hours heating the pool with the gas heater only to see my $$ go down the drain as the cool nights decreased the water temperature. After contemplating solar pool for many years, I decided I was going to just get it done. I had several companies bring their plans and estimates. I decided to use Environmental Solar Design (ESD) because the price was competitive and they use the efficient Heliocol heating technology. Because my roof is covered with electrical solar panels, I used a hillside slope in our backyard as placement for panels installed on raised metal racks. I had the plumbing buried in the ground. Eddie (salesman) was extremely helpful and professional during the entire process. The crew worked clean, friendly and professional! The job was finished with a few days. Our swim season started about 6 weeks earlier than usual and our pool is always ready to use anytime day or night. I look forward to seeing how many months of pool use is extended on the back-end of the season. A few weeks ago we decided to use ESD for another project...solar water heater. Again, Eddie and his team were great. David was the head installer for this project and he was incredibly knowledgable and personable. I received a full rebate on the project within a few weeks of completion. My first month I saved $60 on my gas bill as compared to last year. I look forward to seeing the savings add up!
