I got them a recommendation from a friend who had used them on his solar project. Everything was very easy and not a hard sale, like some of the other quotes I got. Everything had to move quickly to get everything done in time to receive the expiring solar v credits for tax purposes. Started with them October 20, 2025 with initial consult. System installed finished on December 20, 2025. I had to wait a month for LADWP to finish inspection on Jan 16, 2026 to turn system on. Any questions I had they answered. They gave me any info I wanted on what panels they had available. I did my own research and determined which one I wanted for my project. I, like a lot of people, scrambled at the end of 2025 to install solar before the tax credit expired. I tried contacting a lot of different companies and installers and truth be told, just finding someone you can trust is the hardest part of the entire process. I would like to give a recognition for professionalism and excellent experience dealing with Next Door Home Upgrades. I located Next Door through a Yelp ad and requested quotation via a message. The following day, Johnny and I were in contact and arranged to meet in-person for me to take a tour of their facility and discussed more about the solar system. The following weekday, I met with Johnny at his facility, and he was able to answer all of my questions and provided additional facts about the solar system. Josh, Johnny, and Sam have done an amazing job with our solar project. I have now referred multiple family members to them. If you're short on time, to summarize the long paragraphs ahead: Yes, you should do business with Next Door Solar. I got several quotes for solar. I got one from Next Door as well as one from Sunrun, a few from Electrum, and one from Better Earth. Sunrun was the most expensive however after looking at the reviews and equipment I ruled them out. Better Earth was reasonably priced but I felt pressured by the sales rep. Electrum, an online service, provided multiple quotes that were all a couple grand cheaper than any of the other quotes but when dealing with an expensive project on my home, I would have preferred to talk to the companies directly or even have them see the house instead of just me uploading my electric bill, reading a brief description on them, and getting a price. I just didn't really understand how those companies were set up and lacked confidence in the quality provided and long term sustainability when offering a cheap price and not being very hands on. There were 2 initial reasons why Next Door was a no-brainer to me. The first being that I felt confident that they were going to provide great customer service due to meeting the owners, the company being local, and talking to multiple of their clients who are very happy with them. Secondly, after investigation, the way Johnny has structured the business is friendly to long term success. That was a big concern for me due to a high turnover rate for solar companies the past couple of years. They don't just specialize in solar which means they can focus on different revenue streams in events where demand for solar is low. Furthermore, it is my understanding that they are very lean and don't have giant overhead costs like most other companies. So not only was I confident in their customer service, I was confident in them actually being around long term to be able to provide that service which is important with batteries, Net Energy Metering Changes, and regulations in the future. Now after having the team install the panels and get everything up and running. There are a few things I must mention. They did not subcontract the install which you could tell due to the seamless communication and expectation setting from Josh and the team. The workers were on time and although it was messy during the install, they did a good job cleaning up afterwards. They also walked me through the project beforehand so I understood where everything was being installed. They even went through the reasoning on where to place the combiner box so it doesn't face the backyard and take away from the aesthetics and placed it on the side of the house where it was more out of sight. The quality of the installation was great, no holes poking through the roof or crooked panels which you hear horror stories of. The inspector found no problems and signed off on the job during the first visit. Josh recapped the project with me and also explained a way to avoid the power access charge from LADWP by being on the correct service plan which I then helped my coworker who had gone solar previously switch as well. He also walked me through the app and how to verify that everything is working correctly. I am impressed with how above and beyond this company has been from sales to install to post installation. I look forward to working with Next Door for years to come and I hope this review serves as encouragement for other homeowners to work with them as well. Next Door has been a terrific choice for our home solar project. I have been looking at solar choices for several years. The problem was the numbers were really not adding up for my situation, with most 'reputable' and widely known companies coming in very high on their estimates. I considered Sunrun, First Solar, Sun Power and others but no luck. I was nearly going with Tesla Solar but we hit a few snags in what they wanted to do or were willing to do vs what I had in mind. Long story short, Joshua from Next Door rang my door bell one faithful day. We go to talking and I immediately liked him. I never met Johnny directly but he was very responsive to emails and texts so I had no issue communicating with him to clear things up. At the time it was end of the year, I had just a few large expenses so wasn't ready. After the new year, I reached out to Joshua and we started the process. After agreeing to basics of the project, I signed the contract on Feb 6, paid my deposit on Feb 7 and installation was completed on Feb 27, which included a full electrical panel upgrade! That's with bunch of rain storms passing thru my part of the world and playing havoc with install schedule. To be fair, there were a few things left to complete after the installation, like LADWP inspection, initial meter install, final solar meter install and permitting and finally stucco wall repairs. Still, from start to producing electricity, it was just a hair short of 3 weeks, and it took another 2-3 weeks for the other stuff to complete. Also, most of the install took over two days, one full day for panel and electrical upgrade and another full day for solar install and turn on. There were few hours here and there for other stuff but really two full days of install work. As of today, my system produced its first month worth of power - a little over 1100 kWh and it's on track to produce more than what I use each year by 10%-20% margin. I can't recommend these guys enough. They are friendly, very competitively priced, very responsive, use top notch panels and micro inverters etc. And the work was nearly flawless. read more
