Just fantastic from start to finish. We were interested in solar and met with Josh for an initial consultation. He was incredibly informative and applied zero pressure. He explained the process, what our expectations could be, and the various programs and incentives we would be eligible for. We took about two months to mull it over and met with two other companies and there was no doubt who we felt most comfortable and confident with. After we signed, Josh handled all the hoops of the Burbank permitting process flawlessly and with great communication. The installation was perfect and his crew were punctual, clean, and polite. After installation, Josh again handled all the hoops of the inspection and Permission To Operate paperwork beautifully. We are now up and running and really happy with the results. We cannot recommend Josh and the Next Door team highly enough.

Next Door Home Upgrades is the dream team of solar. They made the solar process a breeze with constant communication and clear expectations. Johnny at NDHU is friendly, knowledgeable and trustworthy with your solar needs. He sized our system perfectly with 20 panels and two Tesla PW3 batteries and plenty of room to grow if our demands increase. After researching solar and seeing the horror stories about Tesla installation taking forever and customer service nonexistence, Johnny was able to provide the local installation and top tier customer service while still installing the Tesla equipment we wanted. The whole process took less than 2 months (closer to one month) from start to finish and the install team at NDHU was fantastic. Started process on 8/19/25, installed on 9/11/25, city approval 9/15/25, pending SCE PTO. We had 3 quotes (Tesla, NDHU, other) which all were similar in cost, but NDHU is the way to go with their top-notch customer service and knowledgeable electrician/installers. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have changed a thing. If you want solar done the right way the first time, Next-Door Home Upgrades is where to go.

Josh, Johnny, and Sam have done an amazing job with our solar project. I have now referred multiple family members to them. If you're short on time, to summarize the long paragraphs ahead: Yes, you should do business with Next Door Solar. I got several quotes for solar. I got one from Next Door as well as one from Sunrun, a few from Electrum, and one from Better Earth. Sunrun was the most expensive however after looking at the reviews and equipment I ruled them out. Better Earth was reasonably priced but I felt pressured by the sales rep. Electrum, an online service, provided multiple quotes that were all a couple grand cheaper than any of the other quotes but when dealing with an expensive project on my home, I would have preferred to talk to the companies directly or even have them see the house instead of just me uploading my electric bill, reading a brief description on them, and getting a price. I just didn't really understand how those companies were set up and lacked confidence in the quality provided and long term sustainability when offering a cheap price and not being very hands on. There were 2 initial reasons why Next Door was a no-brainer to me. The first being that I felt confident that they were going to provide great customer service due to meeting the owners, the company being local, and talking to multiple of their clients who are very happy with them. Secondly, after investigation, the way Johnny has structured the business is friendly to long term success. That was a big concern for me due to a high turnover rate for solar companies the past couple of years. They don't just specialize in solar which means they can focus on different revenue streams in events where demand for solar is low. Furthermore, it is my understanding that they are very lean and don't have giant overhead costs like most other companies. So not only was I confident in their customer service, I was confident in them actually being around long term to be able to provide that service which is important with batteries, Net Energy Metering Changes, and regulations in the future. Now after having the team install the panels and get everything up and running. There are a few things I must mention. They did not subcontract the install which you could tell due to the seamless communication and expectation setting from Josh and the team. The workers were on time and although it was messy during the install, they did a good job cleaning up afterwards. They also walked me through the project beforehand so I understood where everything was being installed. They even went through the reasoning on where to place the combiner box so it doesn't face the backyard and take away from the aesthetics and placed it on the side of the house where it was more out of sight. The quality of the installation was great, no holes poking through the roof or crooked panels which you hear horror stories of. The inspector found no problems and signed off on the job during the first visit. Josh recapped the project with me and also explained a way to avoid the power access charge from LADWP by being on the correct service plan which I then helped my coworker who had gone solar previously switch as well. He also walked me through the app and how to verify that everything is working correctly. I am impressed with how above and beyond this company has been from sales to install to post installation. I look forward to working with Next Door for years to come and I hope this review serves as encouragement for other homeowners to work with them as well. Also I almost forgot to mention their nonprofit work. I won't do it justice trying to explain their impact but it is refreshing working with a company that is rooted in gratitude and giving back to others...

Based on consistent good reviews, I contacted Shelter in August of 2025…read more We had experienced numerous electrical power outages for several years, so I began to investigate possible solutions. What I wanted ideally was a system that would automatically power our home in the event of a power failure. I initially looked at generator systems, but discovered several downsides to that technology. Generators need fuel, which could be be gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. Of these, natural gas was the most attractive, but that would require significant trenching for a new line around the house. In addition, placement of a generator was a problem, due to zoning requirements. Also, gasoline/diesel/natural gas generators have an internal combustion engine, which needs maintenance, like oil changes. The best solution for me was to have a battery backup system installed. This type of system is also known as a "power wall." Shelter recommended a 2-battery system made by FranklinWH (WH stands for Whole House). The batteries are 15 KWH each, for a total of 30 KWH. In our case, this is sufficient to power our home for 24 hours, even during the summer when we are using the central A/C. Other times of the year, 30 KWH would power everything for 48 hours or more. Since installation we have had several power failures, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. In all cases, the backup system kicked in so quickly that didn't even notice. We didn't even have to reset any clocks. When then grid power comes back online, the batteries recharge automatically. Shelter did a great job of understanding what we wanted, and provided an excellent solution. We had a very minor issue that we noticed several months later, and Shelter responded immediately to remedy the issue. I recommend Shelter Roofing and Solar without hesitation.

I am looking at about 10 different excellent solar companies for a solar panel and battery system…read more I was interested in getting the new prepaid ppa and actually receiving the 30% of the system by using a 5 year lease and buyout by paying the full amount either cash or with my own Heloc. Jason was the one that came out and he did a smaller system quote for me and my wife. Jason couldn't for the life of him tell me how the system was even more expensive than not using a prepaid ppa. I was also ignored by phone calls and "I'll get back to you" was what he told me. I would stay away and use some other company that is very clear about how the new incentives work.

Their proposal was very competitive, and what really stood out was that Moshe took the time to explain that his bid included services that other roofing companies had excluded from their proposals. There were no surprises, just honest, transparent pricing and excellent value. The team started the project on the exact day they committed to and finished exactly when they promised. Throughout the job, they were professional, organized, and kept the work moving efficiently. What impressed me the most was their willingness to go above and beyond to coordinate with my HVAC contractor. They accommodated the removal and reinstallation of the rooftop AC units without hesitation, helping keep the entire project on schedule. I couldn't be happier with the quality of their work, their professionalism, and their commitment to customer service. I highly recommend Moshe and the entire Top Roofing team and will absolutely use them again on future projects.

I bought my house in Sherman Oaks in 1997 and while I was out of town on work for a couple months…read moreshortly after moving in, El Nino hit. Fortunately, my garage (which was storing much of what I had that wasn't in the house) was the only thing that suffered damage, Unfortunately, most of my mementos were destroyed. I reroofed, and now almost 30 years later, with rumors are that El Nino is making a return visit, I thought (since we had suffered minor leaks during some of the recent rains) it was time to reroof, so I put Yelp to work to find me some people to interview. I picked five for the information I could glean, asking few questions, since I knew opening my mouth connected to a brain that knows little about roofing, would be a bad idea and also seeing if people were helpful with their explanations. Everyone (maybe except one) was personable enough for me to think I could work with them, but much of the information was kinda the same thing (although I noted some improvements in roofing since 97 that were useful to ask each about). The prices were more or less the same, and close enough that I knew I could find a point that would be roughly around the general price for them all, so it wasn't money. It was rapport and ultimately who gave me the greatest sense of trust. And. I learned, information that no one else told me. Roy, with Top Roofing was the ONLY one of the five that I saw who discussed the solar pool heating on my roof with me; each of the people I met with went on the roof. Not one other person mentioned it, and if you have solar panels on the roof - it's a consideration in doing the job. When I called the others who'd come to the house to say I'd made my choice and asked why I picked someone else I told them this - it was determinative that one person told me this was a job that needed to be done in addition to the roofing. He hooked me up with a solar heating company, he'd worked with before and I got on the phone with them and felt reasonably satisfied that between them and Roy it would get done on time, on budget. (It's not a small add-on to have them remove and reinstall the works, so if this affects you, be warned). Roy stayed in touch with me throughout - He came by and we spoke on phone daily. We had agreed that in the cost we he would completely replace and repaint a tongue-and-groove porch which was pretty rotted out) and aside from some permit forms I had to fill out, gave me a date of less than a week every date was kept. His crew was punctual, and so neat - the pool was covered, they cleaned up each of the five days they worked. Roy walked the yard with me before they started so I could make sure my gardener trimmed where he needed to, then walked it again, to tell me where we might need to keep trimming. He touched base with me every day, and when it was over gave me a video of the roof (both the main house and the garage were reroofed), and the porch which looked haggard now looks beautiful. I can't say enough about what a positive experience this was. And it looks really good. And since the last time I put on a roof, the tile now cools down the exterior which is good to have in an LA summer. The roof is up, the solar heating is back in operation. Let's go. A roof is an expensive proposition, and I think it's ok to know little if you hire someone you believe in (and, I'll admit, test out a little bit at the onset), who speaks to you in a way that is helpful and doesn't overwhelm you, but I think this was an incredibly positive experience in terms of labor, cleanliness, schedule and most importantly communication. I think that if you meet with a number of roofers, you will agree with me. I highly recommend...

I left him a voicemail with all my details. He called me right back and said he could be out within a half hour. Mind you, it was still raining. Caesar made it out within the half hour that he said he would. We went over all the leaks. He jumped up on the roof and ran around like he was on the ground floor. Obviously, greatly experienced at walking on slippery Spanish tiles. Turns out my sky light was improperly designed for torrential downpours. Plus, I had several blockages in the alleyways of the roof connections due to years of debris that needed to be resolved. Finally several of my vents needed to be resealed. Anyway, Cesar gave me a very fair quotation for all the work and said he would be able to slip me in as soon as possible, but that because of the rain there's so many problems he has to deal with. The next morning I asked him for an update, and he said I was in luck because one of his clients had just canceled and he could come out and get the job done, today. Caesar and his crew came out and did the job in a few hours and everything seems to be in great working order. I am very satisfied for the work he did, and the value that he and his team offered - in this trying situation. I am sure that some other shady roofers would have gouged me by charging a fortune and overworked my rooting needs, but not Caesar. He seems like an honest person, good commentator, and a good businessman.
