Well after the water damage was resolved, I started getting quotes for drywall repair. I found out it was very expensive. In fact, well past the quote from the other places that included drywall repair. If I were to do it again, I would get quotes for the complete work so I can compare apples to apples.

The owner, Ami, presented himself as highly experienced with wildfire remediation and repeatedly warned me that other companies--and even my insurance--would not protect my family. I have two very young children, and I relied on what he told me. Only later did I realize that most online reviews were from people who had phone consultations, not verified wildfire remediation customers. During the project, Ami also told me he was receiving many referrals from my then-State Farm adjuster after I introduced them. Without my knowledge, he brought a public adjuster to my home and was seen on my doorbell camera discussing all the work he received since that introduction. I never consented to my home being used in this way. Haztek initially sent my insurance an estimate over $160,000. After they learned my policy limit was $100,000, the estimate dropped to $84,000, and I was asked for a 50% deposit. I later learned this deposit structure is not allowed for this type of work in California. After work began, contamination increased dramatically. - Initial asbestos levels around 1,000 structures/cm² rose to over 100,000 structures/cm² in the same areas. - Lead levels that were originally within safe EPA limits (one area at 3 µg/ft²) increased to as high as 69 µg/ft² after a chimney sweep. Visible ash remained around the fireplace, in a room labeled as a clean area for furniture. When I asked about the visible ash and the results, I did not receive clear explanations. We failed two clearance tests over two months, each showing higher contamination. While this was happening, extensive demolition occurred, without permits or testing for lead/asbestos despite our home being built in 1974. This included drywall, hardwood floors, cabinetry, tile, and bathroom fixtures. I only discovered it when my doorbell camera showed my toilet sitting on my doorstep causing me to drive home and find total destruction. When I asked why I hadn't been notified, the explanation I received didn't match the dates shown on camera. I was told demolition was due to mold. Two licensed mold companies later performed moisture testing and confirmed there was no moisture problem. The demolition caused major damage to my home. I also have footage of appliances being moved in ways that damaged surrounding floors * Dust/Ash remained on multiple surfaces after work was marked complete. * When I asked what justified their costs being so much higher than companies like Servpro, no specific differences were provided. * PPE usage was inconsistent. When I was present, it was used; camera footage on other days I wasn't showed workers didn't. * Several items labeled "keep" went missing, including irreplaceable baby keepsakes. Smart devices they claimed were non-cleanable later appeared active and used at a different location, with streaming accounts still logged into and used. * Reported work hours didn't match what was captured on camera. Haztek demolished our HVAC closet, which contained popcorn material. No containment was used. I have photos of this material falling into the HVAC system and return ducts. Afterward, asbestos levels in nearby areas tested extremely high. This demolition was not part of the original wildfire or asbestos dust scope. By the time I understood what was happening, our insurance benefits were nearly exhausted, and our home was left with higher contamination and heavy damage. We ultimately discarded nearly all belongings. The impact on our family has been significant. Haztek advertises expertise in asbestos, lead, fire, and mold remediation. When I checked the CSLB website, the listed license showed a general contractor license. I was not able to locate: * A C-22 asbestos abatement license * CDPH lead abatement certification * IICRC fire or mold remediation certification If you are dealing with wildfire or hazardous cleanup, I strongly recommend verifying all licenses with the appropriate agencies, using independent third-party testing, avoiding large upfront deposits, and confirming all scope details in writing. Update to the Update as I am almost done working with Puro Clean…read more 4/20/25 we move back home. Just now, on my first visit into my office room, the window sills are filthy and seem covered in what is soot and windstorm remnants. I am attaching pictures. We did have repairs done to our ceiling since the remediation but not in this room and there's no way after paying Puroclean $45,000 for that remediation there should be anything looking like that in my house. My side room is also dirty in this manner. The manager Christian has not responded to my texts about this. They also took two panels of curtains but left all other curtains in the house? I'm assuming they needed to be cleaned. They also did not offer any haul away of total losses. I can barely make contact with them. The manager Christian is responsive when he wants something (like calling me asking me to take down this review) and responds when he feels like it otherwise. His voicemail box is full. The other office staff are in developing nations and not actually on the ground. Furthermore, in laundering my clothes/linens, they told me it would take two weeks. It's been at least 6. Management also specifically instructed that they not release my items to me even though they are ready because they were still haggling with my insurance. Even my adjustor was shocked at this behavior from a remediation company. Especially since I promptly wrote and they cashed without issues two previous checks for $25,000. We've had to move back in without our clothes, sheets, towels, etc which is challenging. They're ready and available but Puro Clean is holding them hostage; a business practice they were not upfront about utilizing when I sent my clothes in for treatment. Please please go to any one else for remediation and restoration but Puro Clean. Update: Puro Clean has requested I remove this. I did eventually hear from someone on the ground here in LA, Christian, and they refunded us the money we had paid to have our insulation removed (we're still waiting on the check to arrive via mail). I appreciate that Christian reached out and has been very responsive. I am happy with how he resolved the issue. However, I still think the whole discrepancy between our payment and what services were provided and the behavior of their call center representatives (Tobi) and on site person (Roman) was disingenuous. I am amending my review to 3 stars since Christian was responsive and we did get our money back. Original Review: We contracted Puro clean to do smoke/ash remediation on our house after the Eaton fire. When I did my final walk through, with Roman from the Pasadena office, he told me my crawl space was too tight (it is 12 inches) and so the insulation wasn't removed and I should have my contractor fixing structural damage remove and replace the insulation and that would be "easier." I was happy to do so. However, Tobi, from their office (which is a call center in Nigeria/Other countries making them very hard to work with) pressured me to immediately pay the full amount due on the service (which included removing all insulation and replacing it, which was not done). I foolishly paid. When I contacted Puro Clean to correct the error and get the part I paid for that they did not do, refunded they have been incredibly shady and dishonest. It's disgusting that they take advantage of displaced persons from a natural disaster. According to their call center (which is the only point of contact for customers) Roman, at their Pasadena office is now claiming all the insulation was removed and Puro Clean is refusing to return money their were paid for a service they did not do.
