This store deserves more than five stars for their superior customer service and amazing group of employees who work there!! Liz could not have been more helpful in coming up with the precise bathroom wall color that worked with the colors in our newly tiled mid-century bathroom. She worked tirelessly on several occasions that I met with her to end up figuring out the formula (by taking one of our tiles and pulling the perfect color). Liz had the patience of an angel, we love how the color turned out and owe it all to her!!! I wish I could give Benjamin Moore and this paint store a glowing review. However, the customer service they provided sadly deserves the one star rating. A few months back I bought the Benjamin Moore paint in Smoke. I had used this color in the past and loved it. But something is off on the Benjamin Moore calibration machines because the color I received is not the true smoke color. Picture provided shows the one on the right to be a powdery light blue rather than the color on the left which is the true smoke color. When I brought the can back to the store Ray told me that some of the Benjamin Moore colors were coming out wrong. He was willing to take the paint back - until I shared I had waited two months to paint. Problem #1, it did not matter if I waited 30 days or 60 days to paint. The Benjamin Moore calibration of color was off. They should stand behind their product. Ray even told me I could not re-buy the paint because the machine would still produce the wrong color. Problem #2, Ray took my name and number and said they would call me to resolve the problem. They have never called. It has been 10 days. Benjamin Moore and Catalina paint did not stand behind their word to call nor their product quality. That is a lack of integrity and very poor customer service. Thankfully I was able to go to another company altogether and have them color match it beautifully. read more

I love this paint store! They carry Farrow & Ball, some Portola Paints, Benjamin Moore, and hopefully Donald Kaufman Paint is coming soon. It's looking promising. They are well stocked with supplies. There is a table to spread stuff out on that really comes in handy when comparing color swatches and taking photos of possible combinations. Best of all, the staff are so friendly, helpful, and down to earth. If you need to quietly browse over and over (paint is so tricky to get right), they give you the space to do that. If you need a lot of hands-on help, they will absolutely do that too. One time I came in with such a long list of specific color chips to find. Two people went to work pulling the chips for me. I thought I would be in there for a couple hours searching for all those chips. They got it done in 15 minutes! Thanks Catalina Paints!!! read more

Spent an hour with color consultant Selma today as I chose paint colors for a kitchen redo. that included painting some cabinets. Selma is smart and knowledgeable .It was easy to share with her my likes and dislikes and she was able to direct me to colors that would work and appealed to me.. I have bought paint here for many years nd am so pleased they now have Selma on staff. Choosing paint colors is such a challenge and Selma enabled me to leave happily with a few options. I've been here a few times. The last time, it was a great experience and great paint. This morning however, I learned the Farrow & Ball paint they sell is not sold at the same standard as the paint from the Farrow & Ball store (also in Pasadena). The guy at the store absolutely blew up at me when I asked about it. Like he got so mad he literally refused to sell me paint LOL The issue is that the Farrow & Ball paint from the F&B store is mixed in large batches, which ensures uniformity. We are having a single wall repaired in our home, so uniformity is key. I was also there to buy a Benjamin Moore color for a different room. I noticed that they mix the regular brands (like Benjamin Moore) in the front were the customer can see, but the gallon of Farrow & Ball paint was shrouded in mystery in the back. When I discovered they were mixing F&B on site, I asked about problems with uniformity. The man behind the counter became super angry with me. He insisted that if there was a problem I could simply come back and get more paint and paint the wall again. I did not want to gamble with uniformity, so I politely said I do not want the F&B gallon, but that I would still take the the primer and the other gallon of Benjamin Moore. This enraged him. He refused to sell me any paint at all. Something about his odd level of anger at a very practical concern was unsettling. I am a woman and I do not feel safe at this store. read more

I came in to Catalina paints while renovating my small bathroom. The customer service is on point and the associates are very knowledgeable and will tell you what they think you need, without trying to oversell other items. After I selected a paint color (bright blue), I decided I made a bad decision. I brought the paint back in and they happily recycled it(no charge) and helped me pick out a more neutral grey tone. I've been super pleased with the quality of their paint and will be going back as I update more of my home! read more

I recently found out the store has a color consultant who is there on Tuesdays. I brought in a few drapery swatches, some photos and my tale of woe. Jaime helped me narrow down color possibilities for the walls in three rooms. She has an art background and knows her stuff. The consultations are free, but you do need to make an appointment. I just had my kitchen cabinets painted white. My painter came highly recommended and he did a fine job. The problem was and is, when he took the paint color swatch and formula number into Catalina Paints, Pasadena, whoever helped him ROYALY F - - Ked UP!! The person behind the counter didn't bother to look long enough at the name and number on the paint swatch, and as a result my painter came away with the WRONG COLOR OF WHITE PAINT. Neither he nor I realized the mistake. Should my contrator have double checked?...probably, but there is an inherent trust factor that the paint name and number (I wanted Benjamin Moore "White Down") will be the paint that you will be given (I got "White Dove") Fast forward, and it was only after the cabinets were painted that I realized a HUGE MISTAKE had occurred, and as I result I now have a bright white kitchen - something I DIDN"T WANT! If you think I should have the cabinets re-painted, I'll say you're out of your mind if you think I'll go through that process again. I blame Catalina Paints, not my painter. English is a second language for him, and I wasn't about to micro-manage him. So our trust lay in Catalina's employee to get it right. Thanks for nothing! To say I'm angry is an understatement. If you choose to use Catalina Paints, MAKE SURE THE COLOR YOU REQUESTED IS THE COLOR YOU GET. Especially if it's a shade of white. I came here because it was on my way home from picking up some flooring pieces and needed to try to match the flooring I had as close as possible. These guys were incredible and very helpful. We found a handful of stains that might be a good fit and they took a small piece from the wood I had just bought. They opened up each stain and sanded the wood and tried it on the wood I was using to make sure I found the best match. One of the guys helping me was new and he got a great lesson in customer service. Great experience and recommend if you need anything paint or stain. read more

I just bought enough paint to cover over 1600 sq feet of our new house. The prices for Benjamin Moore paint were unbeatable--contractor prices for everyone, not just contractors! From the 2 phone conversations about pricing and types of paint to the knowledgeable customer service while at the store, my experience with Catalina Paint was top notch. Even down to my last indecisive moment about which white to pick for the trim, they were there to help make the decision. When I went to ring up the system was down after making me my custom color and waiting 20 minutes. Guess you get to keep that one as I'm not leaving my cc info with these people.
