There was a problem with our order. He showed us his computer screen and that it said there that our order had been cancelled, yet we had a confirmation number and had not cancelled. I understand that mistakes can happen. So, we called Expedia and they asked to speak to him. He was actually outrightly obnoxious when speaking to the Expedia representative, who was trying to find out what had happened and to help with a solution. He did not want to help in any way. Why not? Isn't that his job? Doesn't hertz want us to use its services? We really felt that he was genuinely enjoying giving us a hard time and not trying to assist. I can't understand it. Why? We were very upset and chose to use another company. We got a car from Avis right away. I have no interest in using your services, but I demand an explanation for this kind of behavior!!!

If you can't smile at customers or resolve their issues, find another job. I reserved an SUV a few weeks before my arrival. When I arrived, they told me that only one car was left, which was not suitable for a family trip. There was a minivan and other cars in the parking lot at the same time. But he said he could only give me that one. I agreed. The registration process was very slow. They didn't move at all. As soon as I got behind the wheel, I immediately smelled marijuana and ash everywhere. The cup holders were spilled with liquid. These lazy employees did not clean the interior and gave me the car without cleaning it. They have a vacuum cleaner in the parking lot, though. The customer service is terrible. You're better off finding another location. This one should be closed. The second incident happened exactly a week later. I came in the morning and asked if there were any cars. The same employee who had served me a week earlier asked me if I had a reservation. I said that I didn't have a reservation. He replied that they didn't have any cars. I went out, made a reservation, and came back. I said that now I had a reservation. He said it didn't matter whether you had a reservation because we didn't have any cars. Then why did you ask about a reservation earlier? I asked when the cars might arrive. He said 4 p.m.(so stupid), the office closes at 6, and I need a car for the day to get to work. He's an absolutely incompetent and lazy employee.

The manager then stated " I did explain to her that she could do the coverage for a week and extend it out if she needed." I only asked for the remaining days of that weekday. He then proceeded to tell me that the amount per day was 25 dollars and to sign. I asked for the total and he said it would come out to around 200 dollars without tax. He then proceeded to tell me to sign below. I've made multiple calls to the company and each time I was reassured I was not going to be charged for anything. The manager was deceitful and used these words. He stated he could do certain days the company claims they could not. This is Failure of representing the company policy's and fail to take accountability. I have email proof of the agreement the representative made and even phone records that hertz claim to record (11/29/23 8:31am stating no charges . 12/12/23 3:07 pm failure to explain cancellation procedure. 12/14/23 10:12am failure to take manager accountable for his misrepresentation of the company policy and failure to explain cancellation.)

I rent frequently from this place. The hours of operation are better than the Hertz locations…read morearound Bergen (open on Sundays). The services are generally okay but it depends on the individual behind the counter. Two of them actually asked me for a job during our transactions - a bit strange. I do get my upgrades occasionally as an AVIS First member but it is rare. Most of the time, I got cars that are beat-up and not clean. I found strange things in the cars some of the time - such as dried sausages, empty beer / coke bottles, half finished Seven-Eleven big gulp cups, etc. among the things I found in the car. Once, I got a car with both windshield wiper blade so worn that they detached from the arm when I need it. I had to stop by a gas station near I78 to get it changed so I don't end up in an accident in pouring rain. Now my company is moving its business contract to Hertz and I am very glad that I don't need to come here any more.

The cars I've gotten from there have been absolutely filthy. The Ford Eco exterior was dirty and the interior had soda bottles and candy wrappers in it. The most recent car I got -- the Nissan Armada -- also had a dirty exteriod and the interior stunk of cigarettes . Now, truth be told I'm not one to complain so never escalated this, BUT what's driven me to this review is the dubious behavior that took place over the course of my last rental. In October, I went to pick up a car I reserved only to be told they didn't have it available. They gave me an alternate -- a dirty Nissan Armada. I took out the insurance since it was a corp rental, and started to insect the car. As I did, I pointed out a few scratches.As I was asking her to mark them, she quickly interrupted to say: "..anyway don't worry about it because you're fully covered". I thought that was a really odd thing to say but didn't dwell on it much more. Fast forward about 10-20 minutes into my trip to client and I realize there's no gas. Again not thinking much of it (and assuming I'd just return the car with same amount of gas), I pull over to fill up. End up returning the car to a different location in NY; since I'm a wizard member I have them email me the receipt. When I reviewed the transaction I noticed they charged me $230 for gas surcharge. I called the location and they refuse to share any responsibility. In fact the same women who I rented the car from actually HUNG UP ON ME as I was talking to her and refuses to waive the erroneous charges. Anyway, I've spent enough energy on this place. Won't go here anymore; and will take my business elsewhere . My next & final step will be to report them to the Better Business Bureau and then just write them off. But I will say one last thing if you ever care to rent from here... Typically I don't judge books by their cover, but in this case you should know that the look of the location / grounds is exactly n-line with the type of service / cleanliness you'll get with the product -- dirty.

Then a woman came over and said that it was reserved although I was obviously the last customer there since it was close to the closing time. I felt that I was discriminated because of my ethnicity or for some other unknown reason. My understanding is that if a vehicle is available at the time that I was there it should be rented since there was no other customer there remaining for that day. I would never use this place again in the future. Also they set unrealistic expectation on the type of car you reserve. They should be more honest about the type of cars available, since what was there was not what was expected.
