I came in expecting to get a car that was enough to get me from Point A to B over the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised with a 2016 Mazda 3 with only 1,730 miles. The ride was impeccable, they were cheaper than their counterparts, and the service was most pleasant. Looking around the parking lot there were newer cars all around, too. Had to return the car early because my plans changed, and at that point I learned that I should take careful note of starting mileage as well as ending. The last user wasn't checked out quite right and for a second Hertz thought I drove 1500 miles in two days instead of 110. I look forward to going back to Hertz.

Inadequate staffing: I waited in line for more than 30 minutes to grab my rental at a REGIONAL airport. The line was just as long behind me. Rude staff: I was given a car, but kindly asked if a different car was available at a comparable price point. The staff member laughed and sarcastically told me I shouldn't be "so picky." Pardon me? She gave the man in front of me ZERO grief when he asked for a different car. Within seconds she handed me keys to a better car (same price!). I was polite even though I had a ridiculous wait, but Hertz acted impatient over a simple, standard request. Note: the parking lot was full of Hertz cars, so they had no shortage of vehicles. Budget and National are also housed in the Bloomington, IL airport. I observed zero wait time at their stations. Avoid Hertz - that's my suggestion.
