Called day ahead of my reservation. Wanted to pick up at a location closer to work instead of the one closer to home. No problem they said. When we arrived I was told it was at the location near my home. No worries he said I have 2 cars. We took one it smelled like the inside of a dive bar back when they allowed indoor smoking, also tank was on empty. No worries you will not be charged. When we arrived home my wife called the location near us. They had 1 car, it was a wind up toy. That lasted 1 day. Called Manasquan location if I wanted to pay extra than the $50 a day no problem.... So I went to Hertz. They do customer service. Enterprise I started in Eatontown, then Lakewood. I also called customer service 3 days ago still heard nothin. GO HERTZ! read more

The service was horrible. Waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for a vehicle just to find out they didn't have what I reserved online. Very nonchalant staff didn't help or anything to accommodate me or my guest. Spent a $99 uber to get to the facility just to leave with no car Nd another expense added to my trip. When i inquired about a vehicle that was available outside they said the system was down. After they put myself and my guest out of the building, they then hopped in the very car that I was inquiring about. Very distasteful and bad service. Will never use them AGAIN! read more

Absolutely not will I ever use enterprise every again. There will be some sort of up-charge on your receipt I can guarantee it. They find any excuse to charge you insanely. I had to pay an extra $200 more than my original contracted agreement, with no communication about why. There are too many other car services out there to waste your time on this one. This customer service was as good as it gets. We called ahead when we realized we'd get there a few minutes after closing and they stayed open for us -- didn't make us feel rushed or like we were inconveniencing them either. The same was true when we called during the rental to ask questions. The price was the cheapest in the New York City area for us too and the location was VERY easy to access using subway and PATH trains. One note about the location: The address 1 Raymond Plaza doesn't give much hints as to where you'd find it from Newark Penn Station. You have to exit west out of Penn and cross the street, then walk toward the Hilton. Its entrance is to the left of the hotel. read more

Bad business, dishonest employee. I will never ever come back for this place. I rented the vehicle from this place because my car was repairing Thur GEICO. At the very beginning, The employee there told me I can get that car under the amount that GEICO can reimburse. After two weeks of rental, the employee called me stating that I have balance on my account, I said how come I would have balance? Then he said he have never said that to me. And plus, this is not the end of story. After I have a month with this car, I returned the car to them and they even want to charge the fee for detail work. The ladies who helped us in April 2017 deserve 100 stars. Amazing from start to finish. We picked up our car Saturday morning after taking NJ transit in from NY Penn Station. We needed a car for a drive down to Princeton. The ladies here not only greeted us as we walked up but opened the door for us. They verified our reservation, double checked our additional insurance add-on request, and did a thorough walk thru and review of the car with us. They were transparent, honest and genuinely friendly. Many years ago I was a frequent car rental customer due to my career in consulting. I have rented HUNDREDS of cars from National, Hertz, Avis and in more US states than I care to count. This was BY FAR the best experience I have ever had. We had to do an after-hours return on Sunday evening and the instructions for this were clearly written and posted on the door. Easy peasy. We will rent from this location 100 times over. LOVE this place! Seriously a godsend - we live in the city and go out of our way to rent here because of their great rates and customer service. They're always smiling and will cut you a deal whenever possible! Pro tip: Get their pre-pay gas option (they'll fill it so you can drop it off empty - and the rate they give you on gas is literally unbeatable). Also suggest springing for the EZ Pass. $3.95/day is so worth it to breeze through all those annoying Jersey tolls. Great service recovery by the staff! I had reserved a full size 4X4 SUV to go camping for a week in Canada. When I get there, they tell me it's getting washed, and will be ready shortly. Shortly turns into 2 hours, when they tell me they're still looking for the keys. They offer me an other 4x4 but it's too small. They offer me a van, but it's not 4X4. I appreciate the offers, but need both. Time goes by as they keep looking for the keys, they're about to close and give me the two options again, and say they'll call me in the morning if they find the keys, or if a full size 4X4 SUV is returned. I'm very skeptical, take the smaller SUV and leave, expecting to never hear from them again. Surprise! Next morning, I get a call that a full size SUV case in, and I can pick it up. Since 2007 I have been an Enterprise fan when they were one of the newer kids on the block. I have rented about a dozen times in the last several years. Friday was my first time at this location. As other Yelpers have noted-it is worth your time to get here to save some $. It is right across the street from Newark Penn Station in the Hilton complex. One of the main reasons I chose this location is that they have after hours drop off. I reserved online and used some of the Enterprise Reward points I have accumulated, so most of the rental was covered. I do not presently own another vehicle so I usually get the Loss/Damage Waiver. I will say that all rental car companies have different tactics regarding the insurance and every state has different laws. Not at this particular location during my check in but at other places I feel they have used scare tactics. Your credit card (or insurance you may have for your own vehicle) may provide coverage but it is up to you to research what's what and be confident when you tell them you do not want liability. Friday 4/22 this location was hopping a number of people checking in and out. The employees were professional and prompt and I was on my way in less than 10 minutes. I reserved an economy car but was given a jeep (which I believe is considered a midsize SUV) and when I mentioned that I was told it is the same rate. The car was super clean and in good order. I have my own GPS unit, all I needed was the EZ-Pass. (for which you pay a flat fee per day) Returning after hours was super simple you drive right into the garage that is part of the hotel complex-get a ticket, go to the lowest level, leave your ticket in the vehicle and drop your keys in the drop box. I returned my car 10 pm Saturday night and received an email at around 5 pm with my summary of charges. The convenience can't be beat. Reserve now for your summer getaway needs! The location office could be a little nicer but you are not going to stay there that long. They have recently changed their policy regarding debit cards so you want to get up to speed on that. Close to GSP/NJT and you are on your way! read more

I had a horrible experience at this Enterprise location. First, the woman asked me if I wanted to add an EZ Pass to my vehicle for $3.95. I said yes because it seemed like a very small fee for the convenience of having one. However, I noticed when she rung up my bill that the EZ Pass was several times higher than I thought and was in fact a daily fee and not a one-time fee. I understand if you want to charge daily for an EZ Pass, but tell me that when you give me the offer, don't try and hide these costs. It seemed really dishonest what she did. Second, I did the after hours drop off on Sunday morning. I had to park my vehicle in the basement of the Gateway Center garage at a specifically labeled Enterprise parking spot. The garage was incredibly narrow and there was already a line of cars parked in these spots with an empty row behind them and then a cement wall. In order to fit my car behind this line, I had to do what was possibly the tightest parallel parking job of my life. When I say that the space in this garage was tiny, I am not exaggerating. I drove 9 hours in this rental car to Maine and back and this parking job was the most difficult part of the trip. Find another rental service or at the very least, if you live in Newark, go to a different Enterprise location. read more

I have to say the service here is all around amazing. I rent cars often from many other companies but hands down this enterprise is the best. The team is very thoughtful especially Danny who helped me from beginning to end. When I arrived at the lot I was running late for a meeting after a long flight and wasn't sure where I was going. Danny not only helped with directions, but also recommend a few nice restaurants in Northern New Jersey that I may want to bring clients to. DON'T GO TO THIS LOCATION!!!! BEWARE!!! This was the worst enterprise rental experience ever! They gave us a dirty car that took almost an hour to get because they only had one person working. They lack customer service skills and organization completely. The location was dirty and no one had on a mask. After getting the car a day later the filter replacement lights, oil change, and transmission lights came on! The car wouldn't drive over 50mph! We had to take the car to a local place to see what was going on, because enterprise never answers the phone! And they said the car had been in an accident and needed severe maintenance. Not only did we have to fight with enterprise to get a new rental they showed no empathy to us or the situation! And we had small children on vacation with us. This place literally gave us a unsafe car for me and my family to drive around in! Please do not support this location they are terrible! read more

This location should be terminated. This Enterprise Rent-A- Car location is across the street from Penn Station. On a memorable June afternoon, AMTRAK Acela somehow stopped running between Newark NJ and Washington DC Union Station. So we left Penn Station and saw the rental car counter across the street. We get there and they have no cars. The location is just a counter, not a full - fledged lot with cars. Basically, just a hole-in-wall operation. It looks totally sketchy and shanky and it is. Counter lady was no help at all and looked at us as if we died right there, she'd be fine with us. Definitely not the image of a "new" Newark NJ. The airplanes weren't running, but to get a rental car at Penn Station, given our disastrous time at Enterprise. Our highlight of the trip was a cab ride from Newark NJ Penn Station to the Newark Airport. Went to Hertz. Got a rental car and 6 hours later we were home. This is not a good location. Certainly, you cannot "walk up" and rent a car with any certainty here. read more

Organically We had planned on having the car for a few days but after driving one night in New Jersey (and almost getting t-boned twice) we returned it. This Enterprise is the only place I rent from and I live in N.Y from my first rental with you guys 14' For Fourth of July weekend the team has treated my wife and I with nothing more but respect and the best customer service. Even when we call last minute and just want to hold the car for an extra day they never catch an attitude but rather say no problem and act accordingly. My wife and I always work with the staff but always end up speaking to Shelby or the Mgr Irving who always take care of us. I would like to say thank you for your kind manner and determination in providing the best customer service. These guys are the only trick in town (sadly) else I would probably try to rent elsewhere. For the business traveler, these guys are too hands on and talk too much. We want to get the car and go - not make the small talk, take the tour, etc. They should study Avis and Hertz for the business traveler - more self service, more able to get in and out...these guys are trained to make too much small talk. I also believe that recent changes in management (and just changes in general) wreck whatever processes they have . Their location and small office makes it hard to get in and out quickly. There is often a line, often they need to get more cars, often they are just hectically running around and don't seem to have good processes worked out. They also frequently give you cars with 1/4 or less gas, so be forewarned.... Other than that, go for it. read more

The car, the rental, etc was all 5 star at the Newark Penn station site, BUT we were scheduled to return it by noon Sunday. No one bothered to tell us they were not open until 3PM or how to drop the car off. It caused us much concern and stress. The Drop Box is back behind a staircase and us hard to see. I made my Reservation online. I put all the information necessary to get a Confirmation for my rent-a-car. I arrive at Newark Penn Enterprise Counter for Service. I gave the guy behind the counter my FL License, my Debit Card, and my AARP Membership Card. He said that I could not use my Debit Card. I informed the guy that the Reservation was Confirmed with the information from my Debit Card. He said, We do not accept Debit Cards. I said, The system should not accepted my information from my Debit Card. Then, the lady said it was in the "Fine Print." The "Fine Print" did not have anything stating NOT to use Debit Cards. The Debit Card is in my name as Enterprise required for acceptable payment. I'm in town from Florida without transportation to get around. Enterprise should not have Confirmed my Reservation with my Debit Card. The Rental Checklist does not indicate which card is an acceptable payment. HORRIBLE!!! JRJ read more

Not two gentlemen who helped me when I came in around 1PM on a Friday were so nice. They made me laugh and had me in a beautiful, clean car very quickly. The greatest thing about this place is that it is so much cheaper than other sites in the area. It's totally worth hopping on NJ Transit for 20 minutes to get a car here rather than to rent a car from the city or even to take the train all the way to Philly or wherever we are going. Another nice thing about this one is that you can drop your car off after hours because they have a parking garage and a key drop. A week ago was the first time I ever rented a car in my life, from anywhere. I ended up choosing this location because of the prices for the nyc area and because of it's yelp reviews. I am soooo happy that I made that decision. One, they upgraded me without additional costs. Secondly, from the minute I called to confirm my booking and ask questions, to the minute I returned it, it was all such a good experience. This is my go-to rental spot now for sure. They were always super helpful and never found my questions odd. The girl at the front desk was great and told me honestly what she would recommend in terms of insurance since it's my first time renting, but she didn't at all force me (which is a huge positive impression for me). The guy that picked up my other phone call was also super nice, and then I had to call during my rental bc I couldn't figure something out, and whoever picked up was also great (could have been the same guy). The only thing I would improve on would be the after-hours drop off portion. It was a little unclear where to park since all of the spots were taken for enterprise so we had a bit of an anxiety-evoking moment. The security guard at the location was helpful though and enterprise was fine with where I parked, since they seemed to understand that there was not much space. Maybe just let renters know that. All-in-all, they were incredible. I've already recommended them to a bunch of people that I know who would rent cars lol. read more

I really struggle with this Enterprise location - and yet, given convenience and work agreements, I have to use it. I consistently need to rent cars to be in the south end of the state. While they say they open at 7:30am, it sometimes is around 8am before I am actually leaving their office. I am paying for that 30 minutes, and I am sure if I returned the car 30 minutes late, I would have a fee. read more

TRAINING NEEDED. The counter reps are usually awesome at any Enterprise. They were very VERY professional at the Newark Penn store. The TELEPHONE REPS NEED TRAINING however. Because I was given wrong information regarding necessary available credit card and matching documentation (everything on a debit has to match all supporting paper identically), I had to jump through hoops with my bank and it took me an hour to get everything in order to process the rental. DEAR ENTERPRISE: PLEASE TRAIN YOUR PHONE REPS TO GIVE CORRECT INFORMATION - If you're not putting the deposit and payment hold on a credit card, your debit has to have a matching state ID and supporting paperwork to prove address. The easiest way to rent is with a credit card and if your debit is a credit card it doesn't count. Also, the car was not the cleanest that we rented, most notably the windshield had some film on the inside and obstructed visibility. The trunk was scattered with leaf debris and such. read more

Despite the last minute's effort by a kind receptionist to vacuum inside, the car was dirty. Food residues stuck to the driving seat, past agreement papers remained everywhere. The Garmin GPS I rented was not optimized properly as other rent a car companies ones. E.g., you need to find out the address of the return point and put in manually. Needs improvement. read more

Hate it! Never coming back! I picked up a 7 seater car for a road trip and they never checked if my car had a FOB key or not so I am left with just ONE key for the car. So every time I open the car people around me think I am stealing someone's car and running away because of the alarm that goes off! It's so freaking annoying! I swear to not come back. The worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life across any industry. We booked a car for a 4 hour drive to a marathon I'm running this weekend and we took a ferry and a train out to Newark to pick it up. We booked it for 6pm pickup which was the earliest we could hope to get it after leaving work. We arrive to the office at 6:15pm to locked doors with 5 employees inside who declare that the office was closed, refuse to help us, don't bother looking up our reservation, won't even look us in the eye. We call Enterprise's customer service and our rep tried to call the office and they picked up the phone and hung up on her. All 5 of them then proceeded to walk out the office past us and left us stranded. We escalated to management at customer service, and the only thing they would offer was to rebook us at a different location for the exact same price, no adjustment, credit, or compensation whatsoever. It goes without saying, but we're now on our way to Hertz and will never be booking with Enterprise again. read more
