We Love the new facility. Picked up the car at JFK, and dropped off here. Drop off was quick and easy. We had to catch an Uber to the cruise port, and they told us that we had to walk to terminal A. Unlike the old location, they couldn't drive in to pick us up anymore. My partner is mobility impaired, and she would've in no way been able to walk that far. We explained that to the people at Hertz, and without any hesitation, they said, no problem. We will give you a ride. We repacked the car we just dropped off, climbed in, and we were driven to the terminal by German. he was a very nice person, helpful, cheerful, and a nice conversationalist. He dropped us off right at the Uber pick up station. Thank you to the people at the rental car drop off, and to German in particular. We appreciate it. read more

I'd leave no stars if I could. Booker beware. Booked online - they charge you for an extra day if you want to do say 10am-10am or an hour or two extra outside of noon to noon. Arrived at 10:15 - got to hertz around 11ish. Tons of people waiting around - not enough chairs - sitting on floor for all 3 of the rentals in that area not having cars. After waiting in line, was told they couldn't help us until our reservation at noon... wouldn't offer more info. We asked if they could at least add a driver and we were told no. We proceeded to go check in online through app/link. (11:20 at this time) Which confirmed and said we would hear back around 11:30. Waited - nothing. 11:45 we go get back in the long line and get up to counter now after 12 & the guy still can't tell us anything or when cars would arrive. We asked him to cancel the reservation and he said he couldn't do that. What is the point of even having people there?? No number to call on website. How do you overbook when you don't have cars?? They forced us to wait there instead of calling us when a car was ready. They claimed there was a waiting list, but kept calling other people while our place somehow never moved. A total nightmare. When I got my rental car- I noticed several areas of damage to the paint. I took pictures and videos before ever getting in the car. When I returned the car, I shortly received an "incident report" stating that said damage occurred during my rental, which was completely false and I had the pictures to prove it. I responded with my statement and photo evidence. It has been over a week now, and no one can tell me in my case has been closed or if it's still under review. Every time I call I'm given different information. I have put them on blast on social media. I have filed formal complaints. No one will connect me with a direct supervisor or tell me what's going on. They saw a young female, with an out of state license, and decided to target her to pay for their pre- beat up car. Be Extremely Cautious When Dealing with This Hertz Location!!!!!! I'm warning future customers to be very careful when renting from Hertz, particularly at this location. If you accidentally leave any personal items in the vehicle, consider them gone. Despite their claims that items are "tagged and bagged," that is absolutely false. They will steal your belongings and then deny that anything was ever left behind. Even worse, after filing multiple complaints and following every step they recommend, you'll quickly realize that there is no real customer service. You're routed to a generic call center where representatives can barely communicate effectively and only submit the same useless form they tell you to fill out online......over and over again. No one calls you back. No manager is ever available. It becomes clear that employees have free reign to take anything left in a returned vehicle with no oversight or accountability. First things first. Be very careful and check all the charges before heading out to your rental car They had surreptitiously tagged on a whole bunch of car insurance products that I said I didn't need -- it was more than $500; this is over and above the car rental fees and taxes. I found out later when I saw the emailed receipt. It was not obvious at the time as there's no screen facing the customer so one can't really see the items being billed for. Most people will assume the charge was for the rentals as well as a security deposit hold on the credit card. The customer support 800 number didn't mention any option to resolve my billing issues. Currently I'm still trying to find out whom to contact. UPDATE: After wasting a few hours trying to talk to a human, I managed to get to one by choosing the "ongoing rental" option and asking the person to transfer me to the billing department. They'll tell you to call only after your rental is over, but for an issue like mine I asked to speak to billing immediately. A note was made by the billing person to remove those options I didn't ask for. However, I will have to check my credit card after the rental, and was advised to call back if I was still billed for it. read more

Everything went fine with my rental and a week later I was contacted by Hertz saying that somehow my car was damaged even though I did not damage it and there was no damage when they inspected the car they basically accused me of damaging the front bumper until I spent two days on the phone with Hertz, Customer Care this is because they are using the car scanners that utilize AI and I would not rent a car from there because your chances of being accused of damaging the car are very high. read more

Would give 0 stars if possible. The worst possible customer service mindset combined with either incompetent employees, incredibly flawed systems or both. I had a reservation to rent a car for 1 day for over $300. Because I had the audacity to use a debit card instead of a credit card, that's another $500 "hold" (instead of $200 for a credit card). After they charged my card for over $800 which was immediately pending/held on my bank account, something apparently failed (or their employee Xavier screwed up) and they had to charge me AGAIN to complete my reservation. This made no sense so I asked for their manager. After waiting for the manager Cord for close to an hour, I explained the situation and he told me to hold before disappearing into the back for another 20-30 minutes. When he reappeared, he said that the contract didn't complete and they'd have to charge me again, which I already knew. I told him i did not have the available funds to "hold" another $800 (for a total of $1600). Without any apology, acknowledgement of THEIR issue, or any sort of empathy for the situation (mind you I was traveling to be with my mom the day after my father passed away, which I toms him) he said I could wait until the first hold fell off to try again but that would be up to the bank which could take hours at best. Cord, the "manager" made no attempt to try to make anything right and made it seem like it was my fault for not being able to let them charge/hold another $800. Our name wasn't on the board. Had to be processed via the kiosk desk for the first time. App for gold will work for no desk check-in next time then. Had one desk with two staff members. $200 is for incidentals, will be returned after we return the vehicle. We can get whatever vehicle in the zone of the structure. Mostly Chevy Malibu, my least favorite brand or model vehicle, ever. One Ford Fusion left on their lot. That's our ride for the week then. Not many options here at all. Sixt is closed today. Too bad. We could have gotten a BMW X3 for the same price as this Fusion from their competitor. They actually activate the MyKey setting and limit you from speeding over 80 MPH. That feature was mostly developed for parents to limit speed for their kids. The toll collection box is far too low on the windshield, it should be higher. Blocks the view some. The more I drive this hertz speed limited vehicle, the more I find it bothersome and irritating. If my husband and I want to do a mile over 80, that should be our prerogative and not something the car rental company should dictate. If we get pulled over for speeding over the limit, that's on us, not the car rental company and thus the burden of the driver to pay the fee. read more

I booked my car directly through Hertz. I am a Gold Member. It's easy to become a Gold Member; it's not like I do a lot of traveling, but I was able to become a Gold Member. The facility where I picked up my Hertz rental car was excellent; it's in its own parking structure. Spacious and easy to maneuver. Sounds easy right? WRONG! We booked a 7 passenger vehicle as we had a large group traveling. We get to the counter to find out they've over sold the vehicles and basically couldn't give us an ETA on when we would get a car. Which is something you definitely don't want to hear after you booked this months and months in advance. We rented a car a little over a week ago while in town. We are presidents club members, which means we dont talk to anyone, but just walk to the lot, grab the car and go. We found the car we wanted and took pictures of the small amounts of damage we found (one of the pictures we took was of a wheel with curb rash.) and we left. My wife returned the car after the rental and the lady looked it all over and said everything looked good and we were good to go. A couple hours later we get a email saying we owe $100 for damage to the wheel. We have tried calling every customer service number, we have wrote emails, texts, everything to try and talk to someone to show them we have pictures of the pre-damaged car. There is literally no way to talk to anyone. We got ahold of a claims department today and they say nothing shows up in their system, but to call back in a week, because sometimes they don't get the claims timely. Everyday the amount we owe goes up. What a shady ass way to do business. If you rent here, take tons of pictures, and don't take the persons word for it when you leave that everything is "good" Definately won't be doing business with Hertz again. Googling our issue brings up tons of reddit threads of people who have dealt with the same type of shady stuff. read more

WARNING this is a dishonest location. I got scammed. I booked through Expedia the price was supposed to be $133. When I get there they're charging me about $183 and when I ask why the price is different they say it's because of taxes and that third party websites don't calculate the taxes. I get to the hotel and find out that they upgraded my car without telling me. They highlighted the receipt but didn't mention it when they were showing it to me. After a long flight, I didn't pay enough attention to it and just took their word because I didn't think I would get scammed by Hertz. Anyway, I probably share some of the blame for not being careful but I didn't think that a Hertz location with blatantly lie like that. It was not only the young kid who helped me that lied but the "manager" as well. This location is corrupt so watch out! I put the word "manager" in quotes because who knows who he is, maybe he was just another coworker in on the scam. Recommend avoiding this location. They have an AI program that takes pictures of the vehicle before and after rental. The photos are analyzed by an AI scanner which allegedly documents minute damages and scratches and then sends you a bill. In my case within 5 minutes of returning the car. Hertz sent me a bill for $461.50 for a scratch on a wheel. As my rental did not have any wheel impacts. The damage did not occur during my use. Post rental, a Hertz return agent looked the car over and said I was good to go. Have rented from Hertz for over 40 years, I am now done with the company. The car rented in Cherry Hill NJ was not the one promised and was extremely dirty including the remains of a baby throwing up. This is a very serious health hazard. It also reeked of marijuana .We had to spend a couple of hours cleaning it up. Hertz expects you to return a car in good condition but thinks nothing of renting one out that isn't. After a few years away, we spent a week in New York, seeing friends and hanging around Manhattan. Back in the day, visiting New York meant hopping from couch to guest bed across two or three boroughs. Now that everyone has kids, we have to cross multiple state lines to see our East Coast friends. For the first time ever, we flew into Newark and booked a rental car. We were able to reserve a car from Hertz using Chase points just a few days ahead of our trip. We opted for a full-size car, a Chevy Malibu or similar, with pick-up at this Newark location and drop-off in midtown Manhattan. It cost over 15,000 points, more than $230 of value, for a two-day rental--certainly not cheap. We were, at least, pleasantly surprised to get a Subaru Legacy, a nicer car than we'd expected, and spotlessly clean to boot. Other positives included an easy tram from the airport--a great little bonus adventure for our toddler--and a smooth front desk experience, with zero wait time. The woman helping us was polite and efficient, and I appreciated her choice of jewelry--a charm necklace featuring a tiny replica of a romance novel. Unfortunately, things got annoying when we tried to take our car and leave. I'd booked the reservation in my name, but my husband gave his ID and credit card at the desk because he was planning to do most of the driving. The gate attendant said we couldn't exit unless I was driving, and that we'd have to pay extra to have a different driver from the one on our reservation. I ended up driving off the lot, but we switched off over the next two days because fuck that confusing nonsense. It wasn't even clear which of us was authorized, since Hertz had my husband's license on file. Anyway, the car worked, and no one bothered us after we drove away. Drop-off in Manhattan was fast and painless, and our kid enjoyed the novelty of having a rental car (he still asks about it over a week later). Not real happy with this location - and maybe Hertz in general. There was only one person at checkout handling way too many customers. Not to mention, there was a heavy sales push for insurance and other features. (The guy at the counter was doing the best he could, but he was swamped by a management who didn't believe in staffing well.) What was worse was that after 20 minutes of waiting to get through the checkout line, no cars were ready and it took another 20 minutes to get one. I wasn't alone, there were most of the people that had gone through the checkout, were waiting as well. I had no choice in cars and the one they brought me had some tire noise issues. Is still took it but the noise on the various highways was pretty loud. A warning - if you don't buy the EZ Pass option (which is really expensive per day), be sure to get receipts when you pay cash. The special box (in the car) that was supposed to block the signal didn't work, and the transponder paid all my tolls even though I was paying cash. (I wasn't going to pay the $13-15/day they wanted for one day of going through tolls.) Fortunately the toll takers could cancel the charge to EZ-Pass. But I still expect to be contacted by Hertz to pay my tolls a second time (and a fee). This is the second time this has happened to me with Hertz. read more

I prebooked a hire car as I purchased a spirit airline ticket to Newark airport and I was delighted with the professional, warmth and clarity of the whole operation. The rental car universe had always seemed looky -liky to me, meaning get a car from them or someone else makes no difference. Well clearly I was wrong as I was very pleased to be so nicely greeted after a red eye flight across the country. My options were clearly presented to me and all made sense. On my return (a 2 am drive for the first flight out ) I used the drop key system. Quick air train to my terminal. Worst experience ever for a car rental agency. I am a gold member and was told that I can pick up a car in the gold or five star section, which is what I did. I waited 30 minutes to get to the front of the line to exit in my vehicle, then waited for the attendant talking on the phone with his manager for another 10 minutes just to tell me I couldn't rent the car. He said I picked up the the car in the correct section but couldn't rent the specific car. It's just a small suv. WTF!!!! I then cancelled my rental and took an Uber instead. I have mixed feelings about this Hertz location. Upon arriving, after selecting a vehicle, I was stuck in line for 25 minutes waiting to exit the rental car facility. There are only 2 exit lanes - each lane has two stations. Way too long to get out! On the return trip - getting in and dropping off the car was a far better experience. I'm a President's circle member with Hertz and my last 2 rentals have been way below my expectations as this location has given me defective cars: 1. Car one had a broken tire, and the so called 'roadside assistance' didn't want to come bring another car. They basically asked me to go all the way back to where my trip started, which is impossible if you're traveling for a weekend. This resulted in us driving from gas station to gas station to keep our tire inflated. 2. Car two did not have a valid registration, hence we got pulled over by the cops, which is a pretty terrifying experience in this country for people on a visa. To top things off, no-one wanted to do anything about it and customer service blew me off twice, saying that it was my fault that they didn't want to refund me. I'm pretty annoyed. I've rented from this location 3 times in less than a year. This last time, the woman inspected my car when I returned it and said that the car looked good, before wanting the keys. Ten minutes later I receive a text and email saying that they found new damages and that I need to click a link to pay for them. Nowhere in this email or text could I dispute the charges and explain that the damage they found was there when I took the car out of the lot, and that I have pictures to prove it. I responded to the email 4 times since (in one week's time) and haven't received a response. I HAVE, however, received a text every day letting me know I owe them money for damages. I was able to get a human on the phone with their claims management department (a third party). They said there's no claim filed, however the location "may not have gotten around to it yet" (but they can text me every day telling me to pay for something I didn't do). I've tried every number I can find for customer service and I can not get one person on the phone. Hertz is feeling extremely scammy. I'm a loyal President's Circle member, but truly think that due to this poor customer service, I won't be using this company in the future. read more
