They pushed you like you were training for the olympics and chastised you for not doing the movement correctly! I vowed never to step into another pilates studio again! ... Well, that is ... until I accidentally stumbled across Azalea's Pilates Studio! While at the lights at Artesia & Inglewood, I saw the big sign for Azalea's Pilates. Some force of energy was telling me to go and check it out. And boy, I am so happy I did! There are only x3 reformers, this is to ensure each client gets the individual attention a person needs in a class. Azalea teaches with absolute precision and care. Her voice is soothing and nurturing. If you make a mistake, she gently corrects you so that you do not feel intimated or overwhelmed. Azalea is very aware of your bodies idiosyncrasies. I was totally blown away when she mentioned my anterior pelvic tilt to the right! No yoga teacher, no gym trainer, no kickboxing instructor cared or ever noticed I have this challenge in my body! I have had x3 classes with Azalea and I feel energetic and grounded! If you're looking for a pilates studio, where you will get individual attention, care and outstanding prices, then look no further Azalea is your way to feeling and looking better!

Instead, you'll find this studio offers grounding, restorative, meditative, mind-body connection Pilates classes that leave you feeling happy and empowered after class. I did Pilates five times a week throughout both of my pregnancies (up until week 39!) , and I truly believe it kept me in the best shape possible leading up to labor and delivery. It also helped my body get back into shape quickly afterward. What I love most is how I feel after every class. Even though I'm not breaking a huge sweat or doing an incredibly difficult workout, I leave feeling energized spiritually, mentally, and physically. My body feels amazing--completely stretched, lengthened, balanced, and harmonized from head to toe. It feels restorative and healing rather than exhausting, which I've come to love (especially as a marathoner). If you're looking for a hard, high-intensity, cardio-style Pilates class, this probably isn't that. But if you're looking for Pilates that grounds you, restores your body, helps you heal, and leaves you feeling genuinely GOOD, this is it.

Years of competitive sports, combined with the sedentary grind of a demanding tech career, left me with chronic back and joint pain that I had almost accepted as just part of life. Working with Sofya has been a genuine game-changer. She is classically trained in Romana's lineage, and that foundation shows in every detail. From our very first session, it was clear she operates at a level well beyond typical Pilates instruction. Her approach is more systematic, more precise, and far more individualized. My chronic back pain was gone, my core strength was the best it has been since my competitive years, and my overall mobility and athleticism noticeably improved. If you are looking for a great studio and great teacher, I highly recommend Sofya at The Pilates Room!

Unfortunately, this was the worst experience I've ever had at a fitness studio…read more The owner/instructor, Joyce, arrived 15 minutes late, yet the class still ran 25 minutes over the scheduled end time. Very inconsiderate. Throughout the class, Joyce was rude, dismissive, and visibly frustrated. She repeatedly rolled her eyes, singled me out, and made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This was a class of only five people, four of whom were regulars, yet she repeatedly forgot my name. At one point, it became very clear that Joyce did not understand the difference between a person's natural anatomy and an injury. I clearly explained that what I was modifying for was not an injury, but simply the way my body is built and that I needed to modify accordingly. She did not listen to what I was saying and instead rolled her eyes and became upset that I hadn't disclosed my "injury." She even said, "That's why I asked at the beginning if anyone had injuries," which felt condescending and dismissive. Not every physical difference or modification is the result of an injury. Her instructions were also unclear and contradictory. She would give one instruction and then immediately change it under her breath, becoming frustrated when we didn't follow what she wanted. I've taken many fitness and Pilates classes at different studios and understand that instructors need to correct form and challenge clients. However, there is a difference between being a demanding instructor and being disrespectful and unprofessional. When I mentioned that this type of treatment is how businesses end up receiving bad reviews, she began yelling at me. I left feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and completely unwelcome. I would not return and would not recommend this studio to anyone looking for a positive experience with their workouts and health.

A little background: I'm new to the area, and I did lagree for about 1.5 years when I lived near Arcadia. The machines there were the newer Megaformers, with black, white, and grey springs. At MDR, since they've been established longer in the South Bay, the machines are older generation, with red, orange, and yellow springs. They also have various footholds and handlebars set at different heights. Since I trained on the newer models, I'm still getting used to these older ones at MDR, and it can be a bit confusing. Sometimes I catch myself looking for footholds, or reaching for the wrong handlebar since I'm used to just one bar. That said, lagree is a fantastic full-body workout that targets your abs, legs, arms, and glutes. I still get a challenging, sweaty session every time, it is brutal in the best way. The instructors are helpful, and I don't mind the hands-on adjustments since that's how you actually learn and improve. I'm just not ready to commit to a long-term membership yet, given the South Bay pricing. Parking is plentiful, in the large shared lot with CVS and Bristol Farms.
