This place is fantastic. Real Pilates Method classes with a very experienced trainer in a casual and comfortable environment. If you've done Pilates at the gym and not liked it it's because you're at the gym with 35 other people on a mat with no personal instruction!! Get in here and get on the machines - then you'll know what real Pilates is. I've worked out in a lot of different studios and this place has the best machines. They are not the cheap ones that fold up into the wall, they are the real deal. Also, the studio is tucked away from the street in the 'Hermosa Coutryard' so people aren't walking down the street staring at you while you're laying on a crazy machine with your legs in the air! Caroline (the owner) teaches a great reformer class - and if you want more cardio try the jump board class - it will kick (and tone) your butt. read more

I took my first Pilates Reformer class here at WHP led by Mariel. Going into the class, I didn't know what to expect. The class ended up being really easy to follow, not to mention, an effective, full-body workout targeting muscle groups individually. I didn't know you could do so much with a Reformer! In an instructor, I look for patience, dedication and education and Mariel demonstrated all 3. She is inspiring, bright and trustworthy and I'd hope to continue classes with her (if only I Iived closer to the studio!). The facility is well-kept, small yet adequate. I really enjoy the workout I receive from Pilates and was stoked when I received an email from Groupon informing me of a package deal from White House Pilates. I sent White House Pilates and email and WHP made the signing up for classes easy and flawless. I booked a Pilates class at the Hermosa Beach location. I arrived for the 8:30am. Plenty of street parking was available. If you do not already know Hermosa Beach is 'free' to park until 10:00am so that played into my decision time for picking a class. I arrived just as several other students and the instructor 'Serene' was arriving. Again I was the only guy which I find strange because Pilates is a tough workout. As a surfer I already notice a difference in my surfing that I can trace back directly to the workout, stretching and coordination techniques from Pilates. I really enjoyed the small class size of WHP and the extra attention you receive from instructors because of the smaller class sizes. Serene played a very mellow beach vibe type of music and got all the students in the right vibe and began her instruction / guidance. As a new Pilates student I never once felt like I was falling behind, sure some of my technique with some of the moves / exercises could have been have been better but that comes in time. I felt really worked out after class and being so close to the beach I decided to go relax on the beach for a while. I really dig pushing my body to its limits and I thank 'Serene' for taking me there. This class was an incredible workout. If you have yet to try Pilates I would highly recommend WHP. read more

2 years ago I was gifted a Groupon from my Sister in Law to Whitehouse Pilates. The first class I took was with Eva and I have been taking her classes at least once a week ever since. Eva is by far the most knowlogable teacher I have come across in my years of doing Pilates. She knows both traditional and contemporary styles of practice. She is a wealth of knowledge regarding Joseph Pilates and regards him with great admiration which shows in her teaching. I always feel challenged in her class but never pushed beyond my limits. She is also great at modifying for you if you are injured. In the past I had a reoccurring back issue that had sent me in to physical therapy, ever since I have been working out with Eva I am stronger and my back issues are gone. Ava is an amazing person and a beautiful spirit. Whenever I leave her class I feel stronger & more rejuvenated. I wish I cold take her classes every day! read more

Finally back and so happy I returned! I've been a member of White House Pilates since 2010. They've been with me through my wedding, my pregnancy and post baby workouts. I took about a 6mo hiatus once my daughter was on the move and finally returned this week. I love the boutique feel of the studio. Street parking, better in the morning, otherwise given, that it is across from the beach and all the hubbub, you will burn more calories being angry that you can't park on a weekend than you will in class! Once you wind your way down the hallway to find it, you will be in a clean immaculate studio with the basics that you need to shape your body! I have been doing PILATES now for 9 years, and been to MANY STUDIOS and had MANY INSTRUCTORS, and it all boils down to the INSTRUCTOR, so if you do not like their personality, simply stop going and find a teacher that has a personality, is hands on to correct you, and doesn't just babble incessantly! read more

I've become a huge fan of pilates reformer. I found a pretty good studio where in I used to live in Huntington Beach; unfortunately I've moved to Hermosa earlier this year and has been on a quest for another studio nearby. Pros: White House is incredible! It's a quick walk from my new apartment and quite discrete, that's saying a lot considering I live on Pier Avenue. Upon entering the studio for the first time, I was greeted by a very friendly staff to fill out paperwork. Then the workout.... man, was it a freaking workout! The instructor really knew her stuff! Even though a couple people in that class were clearly more advanced than I was, the instructor still made a point to help me with my posture, all the while still directing the rest of the class. I left feeling more sweaty and sore in those 50 minutes than I did for 2 hours at the gym. Cons: A bit more expensive than most studios I've come across.... read more

I was new to Pilates last June and was somewhat wary due to some chronic back and hip pain. White House Pilates was just what the Dr. ordered. Love White House Pilates! My 3 co-workers and I went to do the free session. The facility was clean, quaint, close to where we live, and the instructor Caroline was sweet and helpful. There was no pressure to sign up and Caroline was very accommodating to our work schedules. All of us fell in love with the reformer and were all hooked! Whether you are young, old, in shape or 'work in progress', you absolutely MUST give White House Pilates a try! I was a complete skeptic of Pilates, but now I am a believer! Before trying White House Pilates, I had always associated Pilates with Yoga, which I found to be relaxing - but not a true 'heart-pumping, calorie burning, body-transforming workout. Boy, was I wrong! The Group Classes will TONE and lengthen your body. You will quickly begin seeing LEAN muscle..not bulky muscle...in all the right places - under arms, shoulders, inner thighs, butt, etc. With most of my previous workouts, I would tend to become bored easily...watching the clock until the class was over. I love that in 3 months I've been attending White House Pilates - I've never done the same workout twice. The trainers are constantly finding new ways to challenge muscles I never knew existed. I never get bored; in fact the hour is up before I know it. The ONE THING that truly distinguishes White House Pilates from any other gym, studio, class or session I have ever attended - - is the way attending ONE CLASS can completely change your mindset, mood...and your entire day. There is an undeniable positive, euphoric energy that radiates throughout this studio. Caroline "BRINGS IT" - she is beyond awesome, and so are her trainers. Their positive energy is contagious...it carries throughout the class and I believe it singlehandedly is what separates White House Pilates from any other gym or fitness studio. I enjoy both the reformer and mat classes at whitehouse pilates. They are challenging and the instructors make sure to correct your form (again and again if necessary) and ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions. There are 2 reasons I am giving this 4 stars and not 5. The first is that the 24 hour cancel policy is difficult to meet. I have seen it work just fine at 12 hours at other studios. Given that most people don't sign up more than 24 hours in advance, I think it should be a longer window to cancel. The second is that the mat room in Manhattan isn't big enough for the number of attendees if the class is full. You end up hitting people with your arms or legs. I think they should cut 1 or 2 off the max number. It messes with the experience to have to be constantly cautious of your body hitting someone elses. Other than that, I highly recommend this pilates group. read more

Well, I think White House Pilates is the best! I am a beginner and can't wait to go to another class! Caroline is a great teacher, I was feeling the pain but it was all good! My stomach was feeling flatter than it has in years! I don't know if it is flatter - but I feel better and healthier just after a few classes! I've tried some of those cardio pilates classes at a "Pilates Rocket Studios" ... and thought this is crazy I almost broke my neck - steer clear of those classes that say they're pilates - White House Pilates is great, they are personal and work with you on your level! Small, personal. The instructors are excellent and attentive and workouts vary, but are traditional. The website is easy to use for signing up. As of right now people don't seem to sign up much earlier than 24 hours in advance, so I haven't had any problems registering for classes, but since there are only 5 spots per class I could imagine that being challenging at times. read more

When I first arrived to the studio, I was impressed with how clean and accessible it was. I love WHP!! I started in January and I am totally addicted. I am a die hard runner but I'm finding myself looking forward to Pilates more than my runs. The classes are small so you get the attention you need to perform the moves correctly. All the instructors are great - making sure you are doing things correctly yet pushing you.
