I've been on a fitness journey this year and one place I continue to visit each week is Pilates Effects. The studio is clean, and the reformers are well maintained. There are quite a few teachers at this studio and your mileage may vary depending on which class you take. But if you take the time to try the different classes, you'll find an instructor you click with. I mainly book through ClassPass, no complaints there. Highly recommend this place for beginners too! Their intro classes were just the right level of challenge. read more

Unfortunately, this was the worst experience I've ever had at a fitness studio. The owner/instructor, Joyce, arrived 15 minutes late, yet the class still ran 25 minutes over the scheduled end time. Very inconsiderate. Throughout the class, Joyce was rude, dismissive, and visibly frustrated. She repeatedly rolled her eyes, singled me out, and made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This was a class of only five people, four of whom were regulars, yet she repeatedly forgot my name. At one point, it became very clear that Joyce did not understand the difference between a person's natural anatomy and an injury. I clearly explained that what I was modifying for was not an injury, but simply the way my body is built and that I needed to modify accordingly. She did not listen to what I was saying and instead rolled her eyes and became upset that I hadn't disclosed my "injury." She even said, "That's why I asked at the beginning if anyone had injuries," which felt condescending and dismissive. Not every physical difference or modification is the result of an injury. Her instructions were also unclear and contradictory. She would give one instruction and then immediately change it under her breath, becoming frustrated when we didn't follow what she wanted. I've taken many fitness and Pilates classes at different studios and understand that instructors need to correct form and challenge clients. However, there is a difference between being a demanding instructor and being disrespectful and unprofessional. When I mentioned that this type of treatment is how businesses end up receiving bad reviews, she began yelling at me. I left feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and completely unwelcome. I would not return and would not recommend this studio to anyone looking for a positive experience with their workouts and health. read more

The studio space is clean & bright. The atmosphere is supportive, Bobbi, Sharon & Antigone want you to do well and give clear clues if your form needs correcting, never in a negative way. Pilates Effects welcomes you in and encourages you to keep going. I have better flexibility and core strength. That is a win, win for me. read more

The owner has anger issues. After my first class I could say I had a fairly pleasant experience. The owner then calls me later at night accusing me of not paying my first session when I sent her screenshot proof that I have. Even after all of that and finally realizing she's in the wrong and multiple times going back and forth she didn't even apologize. She gave me such attitude and put me down for something that was her fault. Ruined the experience for me and no way could I support a business run by someone like that. Completely unprofessional and money hungry. Look elsewhere if you want to join a Pilates class. read more

I took an introductory class and was hooked. There are various packages that are affordable with many classes, times and instructors. I tried intro beginning classes with many instructors to get a feel for how each conducted their class. Equipment is clean and well maintained. Instructors are helpful, gently correcting form and non judgmental. Classes are small and allow the instructor to provide guidance to all. Participants are friendly and instructors are top notch. If you are thinking about taking Pilates, I would definitely come here and give it a try! read more

This place has changed my life. I am so thankful. It's my home away from home. I'm forever appreciative to Joyce, the owner who caught me looking in the window one day. Antigone, you are fabulous! Such a patient and kind soul, and one hell of a work out, "Two for Tuesdays with Tiggy". Bobbie, thank you for ensuring my lines are right, thank you for the push, especially at 0530 in the morning- lol! Again, Pilates has forever changed my life and Pilates Effects is to ultimately thank! read more

I went to this Pilates studio and first off I've been doing Pilates for over 3 years but since I wasn't one of they're "regular" the instructor was very rude to me and my friend she wouldn't let us do the same positions as her "regulars" and wouldn't help she would just say "you dont do that" also she was 10 min late to our class and ended class on time so we didn't even receive the entire class that I paid for I also have another friend that also has been doing Pilates for a while and she went on her own and told me the exact same thing overall I would not go again and they need to give they're instructors customer service classes rudest studio I've been to and I've been to many read more

Pilates Effects - Soft opening intro class! I'm in the far back. - Pilates Near Me - Torrance, California

Ok, so I really, really, really, wanted this Pilates studio to work out for me. Sadly, it didn't. The Positive: It's in a nice location, it's very clean, and the prices are fair for privates compared to other local studios. The Negative: What turned me away was the condescending attitude of the instructors. They are very forceful and aggressive in their techniques. You can tell some of the instructors don't have formal training. If you haven't done Pilates before, then you honestly won't know the difference. read more

I am brand new to Pilates, and my instructor Alec is just the best! Alec makes you feel very comfortable, and also confident when it's time to up the weight. Alec has made me fall in love with Pilates. The studio is also very clean and organized, and parking is easy! Can't recommend Pilates Effects enough!!! read more

I have been trying to reach Nesh to issue my refund of $220 and she had become unresponsive to my texts. I have also sent emails and left voicemails and no response to any. She mentioned she was going to charge me an additional $65 which I do not authorize so I decided to cancel and request a refund for my original purchase of $220 for 10 classes. No classes have been redeemed and I was cancelling the same day I purchased (few hours later). No one is ever available to answer their phone number listed on their site or their yelp. Please issue my refund of $220 for 10 classes! I will also need email confirmation. Thank you! read more

I went to this studio for almost a year but had to move back to the SF/ Bay Area and I'm still bummed that I can't go here anymore. I really enjoyed this studio and Joyce was very kind and welcoming.. I also loved taking Antigone's classes! read more

I was a lucky participant in Pilates Effect's soft opening and I will be returning. First, the studio is immaculate, so if you are worried about a post-COVID workout, don't be. Every bit of equipment has been cleaned before and after each session. Also, the studio isn't crammed full of people, so you'll have plenty of room to move around. Second, Joyce is an amazing instructor. I took Pilates for a few years and it had been ages since I had been sore after a workout. She has a deep understanding of proper technique and how to help you improve your flexibility. Most importantly, she'll get your body into bikini shape. ;-) read more

If you're used to the more club-like pilates studios, this place is far from it. They take the classical approach to pilates and really take the time to teach you proper technique and form. I went to the soft opening and everyone was so welcoming and helpful. They took the time to educate us about the reformer and how to make adjustments according to our individual needs. They were knowledgeable and encouraging for each person in class. Some folks were definitely ahead in experience, but they made sure that we were executing each movement to our best ability. The studio is small and clean, with a bathroom in the back. Students wipe down the reformer after every class. Ample parking (at least when I've gone during the week after 5:00 pm), easy to find, and a convenient location. I would definitely go back! read more

Instructors are great and class schedule is convenient. Classes are small and instructors are helpful.

Joyce is an amazing instructor! She pays attention to detail and makes sure you have correct form. I loved how I felt stronger and flexible after every session. I felt like my body grew a couple inches after each session! My posture and form has definitely improved. The studio is very inviting, clean, and organized. You are spaced out from others and the equipment is wiped down thoroughly in between sessions. read more

Joyce and Bobbi are great. My wife and I have only had classes with these two instructors. Joyce is the owner. Someone claimed the instructors are too strict. Pilates is a science and the techniques have to be done EXACTLY RIGHT. If not done in a strict style you are just going through the motions. We had gone to other schools and they were done in a casual way and we were not getting the proper results. The question is, are you going to class as a social experience or wanting results? We want results and we got results. If you want to do Pilates right, this is the place! read more

I took a couple of "soft opening" classes at Pilates Effects and I loved it. It was clean and clutter free in the studio. It also has a modern look to it, which makes it appear super sleek. Joyce (the owner) runs a tight show and she really knows her stuff. She is dedicated to her business and you can tell! She made my experience extremely enjoyable and I recommend this place to everyone! She also has a very inviting staff, which made my first exposure to Pilates less intimidating. I will definitely be back to take advantage of all the knowledge that Joyce has to offer! read more

This is a great spot to learn classical Pilates on a reformer! It's not like any Pilates class at a 24 hour gym. Joyce, instructor and owner, is wonderful and focuses on good technique and quality! Even if you had previous injuries or are sore in a specific spot, she'll work with you to either strengthen it or ensure you won't get more inured. read more

As a newcomer into the pilates world, I'm grateful to have stumbled across Pilates Effects. As a weightlifter and crossfitter, I really was hesitant to try at first. After one session however with Joyce, I was automatically hooked. Pilates effects is a studio that welcomes athletes of all levels. Joyce has done an outstanding job instructing myself and her other clients to the best of our capabilities. During the soft opening, Joyce was very welcoming and accommodating to myself and others. I like the ambience of the studio, and the convenience of the location just right off of PCH. Above anything else, I'm finally feeling comfortable and confident in my own body thanks to the core strengthening movements Pilates Effects instills. read more

I really enjoyed this Pilates Studio! I was doing Pilates with my physical therapist a couple times a week. I decided to try Joyce's class it was a good fit! I love Pilates and I always recommend it to my patients as one of the first exercises they should go back to after an injury. I was so lucky to try out Pilates Effects during their soft opening. The studio is clean and equipment is sleek and brand new. Joyce is such a knowledgeable teacher and one of her other instructors, Tiggy is so sweet and friendly. They both knew how to clearly instruct me and challenge my body just enough without over doing it. I felt like the sessions were personally tailored to my abilities and it wasn't just a cookie cutter routine. Pilates Effects is above and beyond other studios I've been too. read more

In any fitness studio, it's important for me to have a trainer who has a great connection and aware of what my body is capable of doing and safety. I got to know my body more and what I get to work on. On top of that the environment is clean and modern! Joyce is such a great instructor and I'm looking forward to more sessions with her! read more

I happened to be driving through the parking lot and I noticed this Pilates studio! The last time I saw a studio in this center had been years so I was really excited to have a new place to practice! The owner was real informative and nice. I was able to attend a few classes already! I love the flow of the class and the instructor was real good with me, being that it's been a while. I am so thankful! Can't wait for my next class! read more

I'm so excited to have met Joyce and come to Pilates effects. I was referred by family and I'm so glad she did. I did Pilates for years and had to stop in the last year due to some debilitating health issues. So when I was referred to Joyce I was both excited and skeptical. Skeptical because it had been so long and I didn't know how my body would react or how bad I'd look in front of others. Lol!! But that didn't last long. After discussing some of my limitations, Joyce made me feel confident and got me right on the machine. She didn't push, she motified, so l could still get the same results just around my injuries!! After 2 wks Im already feeling stronger!!! And to top it all of, she's your best motivator and biggest cheerleader! She cheers you on so much, that you work that much harder, just so you don't disappoint her, so U push through and Your glad u did. So with all that you get a great workout out, your held accountable ( I need it) you get someone that really cares how well you do. Watching your posture, helping you adjust certain positions, so your sure to do it right!!! And she does!! It helps a lot. If you can handle it!!! Check it out!! You have nothing to lose!! read more

I was very fortunate in participating in the 'soft opening'. I never did Pilates before and was always curious about it. Joyce (the owner) is very amicable, relaxed and extremely knowledgeable. The workouts and training I received was superb! She is detailed in a great sense that she can easily tell if a muscle isn't engaged and really cares about her clients and wants them to be healthy and benefit from the exercise. The environment is refreshing, warm and comfortable. I highly recommend Pilates Effects to my family and friends! read more

Curious to find out what reformer Pilates entails, I checked out Pilates Effects during their soft opening. Joyce, the owner, was very patient in helping me maintain the proper positions throughout each exercise. It was a fun and challenging experience on the reformer. I recommend trying it for yourself! I can see how doing this consistently would build strength and improve flexibility and balance. Tip: Wear form fitting clothes so the instructor can see your posture. After finishing, everything is sprayed and wiped down clean. read more

I injured my ankle running so my massage therapist told me to go here during the soft opening to strengthen my body and activate the muscles that caused the injury. Joyce showed me how to use the Core Align and the reformer to get my muscles and body to work more efficiently. Now I'll be ready to race hard once races start up again. read more

I can't say enough about Joyce and her genuine knowledge of Pilates. She teaches in a way that is caring and disciplined, but not at all intimidating. You feel right at home, and can ask any questions to better your posture and overall well being. I enjoyed the clean studio and it's inviting and friendly atmosphere. She takes the extra time to explain in detail what certain positions are doing, and shows you the right way to get 100% results from each moves. I highly recommend her classes to anyone who wants to improve their CHI balance in life. read more
