I've been coming here for a few months now and I love it so much. This studio has dramatically changed my body composition, what I see in the mirror, and how I see my body in my minds eye. When I first started my form was heinous, and I could only do about half the class - if that. Now I go 4 times a week and I look forward to it every single time. I can do almost all of the class, and my balance and body awareness has improved so significantly. I thought I would never be able to balance on the machines due to a vision disorder, but Kaci helped me identify where I could improve my posture/build muscle to correct my balance... and it worked like magic. I took a class here last week. It was intense, and I didn't think I would survive, but I did! It was really hard but I just need to build up to it. I thought I would have had an easier time because I had been doing Pilates before COVID but the way they do Pilates here is more modern with lots of strengthening and isometric exercises. Which means a lot of small pulses and holding poses. I can see how it will make your muscles toned the more you do it. I wish we didn't have to wear masks because it makes the class even harder when you can barely breathe.. but overall, clean facility, great philosophy, and superb instructor! read more

The instructors - Jennifer and Brooke are absolutely AMAZING! They keep class fun, engaging and difference each time I went. The service from management is HORRENDOUS. No one has ever answered the phone (no ability to leave voicemail either) or messages on Instagram after clearly viewing the message. I purchased a pack of 5 classes earlier this summer and was able to attend 3 classes. Unfortunately I injured my arm thus preventing me from finishing up the remaining 2 classes before the expiration on 8/12. I reached via Instagram on 8/10 to ask if it was possible to extend the expiration on my remaining 2 classes by a few months. Someone who manages their IG account read the message, along with the message I asked many months ago about when they were opening back up, and never responded to any messages. Great workout! It's a little confusing at first, with all the different bars and straps and positions thereto. But you can just follow along and everything will be alright. I recommend signing up before hand because a lot of classes sell out. There is only metered parking, but it is plentiful during the week. The workout itself is intense and burns the whole time. The concept is SPX Pilates, which works one body part at a time until it burns. So you burn out the right oblique, then the left, then the right leg, then the left, then your arms. The whole time you are working your core. I can see how this would be a great way to tone up. The only downfall is the price, but it is comparable to other pilates studios so I don't think you will find anything cheaper! read more

I am a newbie to Pilates. I have been meaning to try Pilates for some time now and when I observed a Groupon package for $29 for 3 Rockit Body Pilates classes in Redondo Beach I knew I had to try it. I called the studio after purchasing my Groupon and asked what I needed to do to start taking classes. I was advised to go onto their website and set up a profile. After I set up a profile I needed to email the studio & they would send me a welcome package informing me my profile was now active & what I needed to bring to class which I did. The signup was extremely easy & the staff member that assisted me truly made it a pleasant experience. After reading the welcome package I was able to view & sign up for classes online, which was extremely easy. I realized the only thing I was missing were the 'Toe Sox' which you will need. The 'Toe Sox' prevent you from slipping while on the reformer Pilate machines. I looked on Amazon at prices but ended up purchasing the sox on my first visit to the studio, the prices were within $1 dollar with the discounted prices I found online. I am a fitness freak. I really enjoy pushing my body to the extremes and trying to outdo my last workout with my current workout. I firmly believe that other people's workout usually is my warm up. I surf, I skate, I beach cruise, I run, take yoga, swim, go to the gym, play beach volleyball and several other things so I figured I was physically ready for the Pilates challenge. I showed up to Rockit Pilates at 8:50am for a 9:15am class. I noticed the area immediately surrounding Rockit Pilates is metered parking only which starts enforcement at 6:00am so I ventured out a block or two & was able to find 'free' 2-hour street parking. I walked into the studio and the receptionist working asked if this was my first visit to Rockit Bodies, I said it was. The receptionist took me on a tour of the studio, explained the rules of the studio, took my picture to ensure when I check in for class it is actually me who is using my classes and not someone else. I found the studio to be nice; it was exactly the right size. The studio itself has lockers, a bathroom and changing area. I got my 'Toe Sox' on and was ready for class to begin. Fellow students began showing up and at the start of class there were only 5 of us there, I was the only guy. Our instructor 'Davana' showed up. Davana asked if this was my first class and quickly explained positions on the reformer machine. Davana put on some inspirational music and we were off and running. I found out real quick that Pilates was tough. It was not just a physical workout but a mental one as well. You will work every muscle in your body from head to toe. You will be required to balance and put your body in poses they have not been exposed to for who knows how long. The class moves from one position to another in a very fluid motion. The instruction was right on the money and this is coming from someone who had zero Pilates experience coming into a 'non-beginner' Pilates class, I was able to follow along without any problems. The class itself was 50 minutes long and it was truly an entire body workout. I felt so good after the class was over. I could tell real quick that I was working areas of my body that had not been worked out before. The days following my first Pilates class I had a tad bit of trouble walking up stairs but that is what I was looking for. I came back and finished my 3 class package and was lucky enough to have instructors 'Kaci' & "Lisa.' All 3 instructors that I had the privilege of being instructed by really provide an incredible mind, body & spirit workout. On all 3 of my visits I was the only guy attending classes. I guess guys are looking in the doors of the studio and thinking Pilates are for women but if that same person walks in the door as I did they will simply see that is not the case. I am without question going to add Pilates into the mix of workout routine. I can after only 3 classes feel a difference. I can only see benefits from Pilates that will directly result to better surfing. read more

I adore pilates, I adore the reformer... but in this case the class is Pilates chaos on crack or Bi-Polar Pilates. For people who don't understand whats what and if you do, hold onto your seats you're in for a ride, could get bumpy, very bumpy. They don't use the Pilates terminology, I wish they would, for instance they dont say "leg circles", basic terms like that. Its a good workout and you're very sore the next day, but it pushes it too far and I believe Pilates is about form and precision to get the best results. The word "Pilates" in their title is misleading in my opinion. Plus like other people have said on here if the class is busy its hard to understand or see what the teacher is wanting from you. At least I have some background in Pilates so it wasnt too bad. I did give it try, went to 4 classes. But I feel that I'm better off sticking the the real thing. read more

(I am not new to Pilates, I have had more than a handful of classes, so I feel I can judge the instruction and involvement fairly well.) I have to agree with what some of the other students say--while I appreciate the concept of adding an element of cardio to the already intense Pilates exercises, I feel that in terms of form, the students are not guided at all whatsoever. It is hard to see what you are supposed to be doing when there are 10-12 other students in the class, much less when you generally have an instructor who doesn't go around correcting and posturing. They also generally do not give good guidance in terms of telling students where they should be feeling things in the muscle group. I understand that this is, again, due to the fact that the instructors need to be watching over 10-12 students per class. It's really not their fault. Technique-wise, in traditional pilates classes students are asked to watch form and make sure to not "speed through" the workouts, instead making sure to get in there and work those muscle groups--which is what gets you those toned results. However, in these classes, less emphasis is placed on form and making certain that the pilates pose is targeting the right class. Katrina, Ellina & Lisa were the most helpful in trying to get me into the right form and giving me good guidance on how to "modify" the exercise so I get something out of it while not being too hard on the body. Also, Katrina is the NICEST instructor. I give them props for that. Concur that it's extremely difficult to get into these classes..Very challenging as the classes fill up almost immediately as they open, within hours! And as the other mother who posted, with kids, it's not easy to just quickly switch around your schedule to meet theirs when it's available. For some Yelpers Rockit Body may be the way to go. However, I feel that traditional pilates is better for me because after a Rockit Body session, yes, I am sweaty and cardio'ed, but why should I be? I can take a walk later or do the stairmaster to get my cardio in. Pilates studios should make you feel stretched out and walk out standing tall in addition to the toning. I don't get that feeling at Rockit Body. The Rockit Body instructors mostly do not seem to like to use the reformers..? When Pilates is generally reformer-based? I don't get it. And here's the kicker: Now that I'm done with a trial month at Rockit Body, I'm going back to my previous Pilates studio where for the exact same amount of money, I get more 1-on-1 time, because that studio only has 5 reformers. I agree with someone who mentioned about overall experience: when you get 10 people in class the whole idea of reformer class gets diluted due to lack of guidance. I did like the teacher though (don't remember the name). Not least among other things that turned me away from the place was their change/cancellation policy. I bought 3 classes with Groupon and booked all of them in advance. Then I also put myself down for wait list and didn't get notified neither did I see this class on my schedule in my online account. Plus with me already having all 3 sessions assigned in advance (therefore all groupon sessions utilized) I did not expect the class to go through. It did though so did $15 late cancellation fee. I had pleasure to speak to Judy multiple times about it trying to fight the charge. I just gave up my hopes and gave in to disappointment. read more

It's super clean, the staff/instructors are amazing - Jasmine might be my favorite, but I kind of love them all. Do not be intimidated - this is a workout for all levels, beginners to advanced, and the instructors always give modifications if you have injuries or if you're just starting out. I had two herniated discs in my back when I started and I was in a lot of pain. Now, I have NO pain because I have strengthened my core. For trying this studio for the first time, and new to Pilates, the All Level class was a good workout, with modifications and once the instructor realized we were new, she helped us with setting up for exercises. This studio needs to have a more welcoming greeter at the desk. Victoria at the front checkin was not friendly, not welcoming, awkward and made me feel uncomfortable. Service was poor and minimal communication when checking in - being new and having no idea what this workout would be like, unsure and a bit nervous, the only thing we were told at check in was sign his waiver and grippy socks were required (@$20!) Lisa was a good instructor, but poor service on the entrance and exit...if they got a more friendly and bubbly front desk person it would have been a better experience! Nothing will kick your butt harder. The Product: its a machine you get on and it moves to help do the pilates moves, it can make your life easier, or harder. most of the time harder. its very hard to describe, but this is what makes this class special The Place: its actually a very small gym, with fairly limited amount of machines, but due to its expensive fees, this place does not get too crowded too often. i don't like how the window is open for people to look and and see you sweating your butt off, but it works. the bathroom is very fancy, and clean. this facility is most probably mainly used by women so i don't think that it can get too messy, and get away with it. the Service: its a class that you follow along, and you do it for the allotted time asked for. my butt and abs burned 3 days after the class was done and over. the instructor was very professional and very helpful in correcting form to ensure safety. the BEST part to me is that they force you to wipe down your machine after the class. to me this was the best part because i know that every class does this and when i get on my machine its clean honestly the best part really is the limited amount of people and the personal help you get with each instructor. i wanted to point out hte sanitation because a clean gym is wonderful gym, because most gyms are filthy with sweat and other bodily fluids. read more

I purchased a Groupon for here, and I will soon be purchasing their first-month introductory offer of unlimited classes for $160. While this place is really expensive, I have to say, it really works. Their mission is to work a muscle group until it breaks down, and the next day, I can definitely feel the results. I have never done any form of pilates before, and I have to quote fellow Yelper Olga D. on her account of being new, as I couldn't have said it any better myself: "... I felt very little guidance during all three classes, even though they knew I was new. I often had to watch my neighbors to see what I am supposed to be doing. I don't need hand-holding, but having more direction would have helped. Perhaps, part of it is the studio layout... they have 12-14 reformers and all of them stacked side by side, so the instructor has to move a lot and cannot see the entire class." This is the only reason why I didn't give 5 stars. My advice to newbies is to attend classes that aren't as full (maybe call and ask them which class times tend to be less busy). Whenever an open reformer was available, the teacher would always show us the positions, but in a full class, the teacher had no room and I had to rely on my neighbors, who were usually new as well. I've never been good about going to a gym or motivating myself to work out, but these classes keep me interested and are fast-paced so I don't get bored. The teachers really seem to know their stuff, and the schedule of classes available each week is better than anything else I've found. If you inform the teacher of an injury, they are great about showing you alternative positions to avoid pressure on the injured area while still getting a great workout. I adore this pilates studio, not only because of their amazing location (adjacent Trader Joe's and the Pacific Ocean) and cleanliness but they have one of the BEST instructors, Joanna Tung! I love how she is a perfect balance of professionalism, attentiveness, and accountability with your form (which is ultimately why you go to these amazing classes, to make sure you are challenged yet maintaining great form)! From the very first time I walked in, she introduced herself and asked my name and what I would like to focus on. I played sports in college, but after that could never motivate myself to "work out." Working out always seemed boring to me. That was before RockIt Body Pilates. This class totally kicks your butt. It is fun, upbeat, and never gets boring or repetitive. The instructors all have their own style, whether its tough love or a more supportive role. You'll find your favorite instructor (mine is either Kelly or Ellina), but I honestly can say that every instructor I have had here does an AMAZING job. In addition to the great one-on-one attention you get from all of the instructors, another plus is that there are 2 locations and you can take classes at either one. There are also a TON of classes every day of the week, so you will always find one to suit your schedule and personal preference. To my own surprise, I found myself LOVING the 6am classes, especially the Friday morning RockIt Recess class. I was introduced to RockIt Body Pilates by a groupon, and got hooked so fast I had to buy the new client 1 month unlimited (which is actually a great deal). I'm on my second month at RBP and have been having a really good time. Tove and Jennifer are both great, difficult instructors that make class fun and make adjustments if you have prior injuries. I'm someone who has spent a lot of time lifting and running in the past, but also has some hamstring issues I need to work through, they have been nothing but patient and fun. I LOVE the spin and Pilates combo classes, they are a great mix of cardio and resistance training. This is easily a studio I can see myself at 3-5 times a week, the only thing is classes fill up quickly and some times can be tough to get in if you work a 9-5 or 9-6. I hope that they add more classes in the future, especially during lunch break or weekends! read more

I wish I could express what the classes were like... but I can never get into one! I have been eager to find a home for regular Pilates sessions and have been testing studios in the area. RockIt Body offered a Groupon, but then can't fulfill the classes because they are all full! It's absolutely ridiculous. Don't offer a Groupon and be so strict with the cutoff date if you are unable to accommodate. Ever heard of the adage...."you can't have your cake and eat it too." You could learn from it. This is an update to a previous review written several months ago. Since I first took classes at RockIt during the fall of 2012, I've taken classes at several other studios and can now provide a more accurate comparison of their classes/studio. It's a good studio. Bottom line - yes, you will get a good workout but to address what many other reviewers have said regarding the lack of guidance, I have to agree. Depending on the instructor and class, you may get some guidance but its on a basic level. Now that I've taken classes at other studios (The Studio MDR, Coreology, Pilates Platinum) I can say that the instructors I've taken at RockIt did not properly correct my form. This is not to say they don't know proper form but maybe they just choose not to spend time on small things like how high your butt should be while in a plank position. When choosing a Pilates studio, always look for instructors who will challenge you while also teaching the best ways to achieve your goals. To each their own. I've been taking Pilate classes for over a year now so my expectations have modified with time. Beginners would do well at RockIt with the range of instructors but I require a bit more from a studio and will not be returning. read more

Bought a groupon for this Pilates studio. It was a terrible experience. I enjoyed the first class however The second class the strap on the reformer machine snapped and I flew off the machine. My body has been in pain ever since with a stiff neck and sore lower back. I was advised to check out the machine prior to use to make sure none of the straps were worn out. For the cost of Pilates the client shouldn't have to inspect the machines. Didn't even get to finish all of my groups sessions and the owner never contacted me regarding this incident. Skeptical at first due to mixed reviews, I tried RockIt Body anyhow, and I'm 100% happy that I did! I've been coming here for about 4 months and like everyone says...it only continues to get harder, and I love that! I needed a challenge, and needed to kick my workout up a notch. RockIt Body Pilates has given me that push that I needed to get started again and I can't thank them enough. Due to a lot of stuff, I was getting major muffin top and after just the 1st month, could actually see definition in my abs again! I could practically hear my fat crying, so I became addicted. I'm noticing more tone and strength, but I also bumped up my cardio and other things outside of the studio. The studio is always clean. They require you to wear socks with the grip on the bottom - love that. Most all of the students are very nice too. The instructors are fab, but I do have a few fav's including Lisa, Kaci and Ellina. They each have their own style, but never let you give up on yourself. Lisa, I wish you would teach more at RB! I have found that these 3 instructors have been the best at teaching form and really motivating you to get in there and get it done! Kaci and Lisa have been so motivating and kind, and they have great go-to attitudes, they keep you coming back for more! The staff is really great, including Chelsea and Faith - being so sweet and helpful. I only wish there were more weekday, AM classes offered in RB.
